Sidecar is located in a busy shopping center, right across from the entrance to Trader Joes, so you can imagine what parking is like. They have two main types of donuts -- super dense and cakey, or lighter and airy. Most are the cakey variety, so if you are into lighter Krispy Kreme type donuts, there won't be many options for you. They have some interesting flavors to choose from. I have tried both the thick, crumbly ones and the lighter variety. Both are high quality, but their cake donuts are just way too dense and chewy for my liking. I did enjoy their light vanilla glazed traditional style donut, but at more than $1/bite, it's not worth it in my opinion. They do have good, made-to-order coffee; iced oat milk latte with a touch of vanilla is my go-to. Props to the staff for keeping the line moving, offering suggestions, and making good drinks. I'm giving 5 stars because there's nothing bad to report, I'm just more of a Krispy Kreme or rundown mom & pop donut shop kinda guy. read more

What a terrible environment to have workers in. As hot as it is (88°) outside, it's even hotter indoors. The workers there are making fresh donuts in sweltering heat. For an establishment that charges $5-$8 per donut, you'd think they'd have the funds to fix the AC if not for the customer experience but at LEAST the workers. This location might be my favorite location by far. The service is always top-notch and quality is always consistent. We stopped by today around 3:30PM and received quick service :) they were just bringing out some fresh doughnuts so we were able to get them super fresh! We got to try some new seasonal flavors as well as some classics. Chocolate Celebration Ring - this is a new daily flavor I believe, and I quite enjoy it! The doughnut itself is very pillowy and not dense at all like their other ones. Very different, but a good different. It reminds me of the type of doughnut you'd get at a mom n pop, which is a huge plus for me. The chocolate frosting surprisingly wasn't super sweet. Def would get again. Potato Chip Streusel - this was...interesting haha. The potato chips add a nice salty flavor to the chocolate donut itself. I wouldn't get it again, but worth a try if you're an adventurous person. Celebration Cake - one of my absolute favs. I love that they use almond flour so it has a nice nutty taste. It is very much cake like and dense, but it hits the spot every time. Highly recommend! Old-fashioned - also a great classic! It has a great mix of cinnamon and nutmeg and isn't too overly sweet. Banana Bread Latte - we got to try this and I LOVED it. I stopped by today to get my free birthday donut. The crispy French toast donut looked interesting and ended up being a new favorite. I split it with my husband and he liked it too. It's a shared parking lot with Trader Joe's so we decided to park closer to the bank side for more parking options. As you walk into Sidecar Doughnuts, we were greeted with the delicious smell of freshly made coffee and donuts. The place is clean and cozy. There were samples to try out. Decided to get the Vegan Strawberry Matcha and it's just like a cake. The delicious glaze with matcha dough compliments well with the strawberry. A plus, it's gluten free and vegan. And the staff made sure to use a separate tong to grab this donut and boxed it in a separate container from non gluten free donuts. Ordered the cold brew with coconut milk and it paired well with the donut. The staff made sure I was ok with the cold brew and donut. And checked in if there are any questions. Fresh craft donuts in a mega high-traffic area. This Side Car is right in front of Trader Joe's so there are a lot of parking spaces. However, if you venture in the area on a weekend - it could be harder to find secure a spot. Over the years I've had their Huckleberry, Butter & Salt, Strawberry Buttermilk donuts from the regular menu. I've got a personal soft spot for the Huckebwrey & Saigon Cinnamon Crumb donuts (when available). Are the donuts pricy? Yes, but only because the flavor profiles are unique compared to standard shops open 24/7. Beverage wise, I've only had tried their chai and matcha lattes. Nothing negatively notable nor special, but they don't taste terrible. I personally wouldn't go out of my way to try the drinks since the cups are small for the amount of $ you pay. I stopped here on a weekday late morning for coffee and donuts. I've loved Sidecar's Costa Mesa location for years so was surprised to be disappointed at this location. The options were already slim at 11am, but several choices were available. I chose an old-fashioned and a bourbon pecan pie. I also purchased a hot vanilla latte. There is a counter inside if you care to stand and consume your purchase but I decided to chow down in my car. The old-fashioned was dense and had a very light coating of that slightly crunchy glaze that you find thickly covering the old-fashioned donuts you get at mom & pop donut shops. It was okay but, as I ate it, I thought that, given the choice, I'd rather be having a better one from one of those old-time donut shops. The soft-cake bourbon pecan pie donut had a light icing and a center of sweet pieces of pecan that truly did taste like pecan pie. I did like that one. It is a special doughnut despite being on their daily menu. I usually get that one and try their special seasonal doughnuts. I got their Honey Butter Jalapeno Corncake and Peach Cobbler Malasada. Malasadas are available only on Mondays. They had a Dubai Chocolate Malasada that was pretty good, just a bit on the rich side. I'm usually not a fan of Old Fashion Doughnuts, but Sidecar makes a very good one! There's a lot of love, attention to detail, and fresh ingredients that go into these doughnuts! I've been to 3 different locations and have received the same quality and consistent doughnuts! My husband does not generally consume doughnuts, but he will eat these! I think he looks forward to the seasonal doughnuts as much as I do! We don't usually choose Vegan anything, but Sidecar has made some good ones like the Vegan Smoked Chocolate Pretzel Doughnut that was really exceptional! My favorite thing to see when I come here is the replenishing of empty doughnut spots with freshly made doughnuts! The Peach Cobbler Malasada I got had just been placed on the tray! Genuinely enjoy having a treat here once in a while. Luckily they're pricey so it doesn't become a habit, but well worth a splurge once in a while. I love the freshness of the cake donuts here.
