Highly recommend! I was in the La Plata area a few weeks ago and was very satisfied with Marie's Diner. Between the five of us, we ordered chocolate chip pancakes, eggs, bacon, cheesesteaks, hash browns, an omelette and a side of Mac & Cheese. Here are some of my thoughts: 1) There is a wait time, because that's only because Marie's seems to be immensely popular. We were told that our wait time would be around 40 minutes but we were actually seated in less than 20, which was a pleasant surprise. 2) Pancakes are HUGE and truly the star of the menu. They were delicious and by far the best thing we ordered. I definitely think that one pancake is enough for any customer, even if you are really hungry. 3) The food was very affordable and generally very good. Mac & Cheese wasn't the best, but I don't believe it's a popular menu item. Also, there was marinara sauce in the cheesesteak. It wasn't necessarily bad, just unusual. I feel as though it should be made optional by the waiter. 3) The waitresses are VERY courteous and the service is amazing. We were the last ones eating as they were beginning to close and they very kindly told us to take our time and not feel rushed. They were incredibly respectful and patient, which made our dining experience all the better. In a nutshell, Marie's has great food, incredible prices and amazing service. The food is excellent, crab cakes ( I'm kissing my fingers). They put real crabmeat and no fillers!! Lots of regular customers.

As any popular restaurant, there was a short wait time before we were seated. Fortunately, my table was one of the last few tables to be seated before the diner closed. The waitress was kind, knew the menu well and could recommend favorites for us as it had been our first time at the diner. Due to the diner closing, our party wanted to rush in order to avoid inconveniencing staff into staying later. However in our attempt to do so, the kind waitress assured us we could take our time, and that we had no need to rush. The food itself was fresh, tasty and cheap. I recommend the cover-the-plate pancakes! I can definitely tell why this diner is a staple for locals and passerby, and will definitely be becoming a regular customer. read more

I am giving four stars for the food. The breakfast food items were all delicious. However.....The restrooms were horrific so I would give a negative ten stars for the restrooms. The restaurant is very busy all the time and someone at this restaurant needs to be in charge of monitoring the restroom situation. The restrooms need a major overhaul. read more

I decided to try this place during Memorial Day weekend. You can order online but you have to pay when you get there, which I did not like!! You have to stand in line and they were NOT trying to encourage any type of social distancing! Everyone was crowded at the counter and the 2 checkout registers are only about 4 feet apart. I did not feel safe in there!! I should have turned and left, but I was hungry and wanted to see what the hype was about. When I entered, there were 4 employees behind the counter talking to each other and it took them a little bit to acknowledge me. It was just me and another person waiting when I entered. By the time I received my order, which was sitting on the table next to the employees, 3 more people entered and crowded the counter area. Again, I did not feel like the staff was trying to promote social distancing. I got home and opened my container consisting of a sandwich and fries. My sandwich had a sheet of grease under it. Whoever prepared it could have placed a napkin underneath. I paid extra for fries but the amount I received was compared to a small at a fast food restaurant. After I degreased my sandwich, it was good but I still had to take an Alka-Seltzer. read more

This restaurant has a small-town welcoming feeling. It's a great place to gather around for a home-cooked meal. The Belgian waffles are so tasty and huge, you definitely won't be hungry afterward. The breakfast potatoes; they are hearty, flavorful and filling. Oddly enough, they also make a pretty good crab cake and is my husband's go to when eating here. read more

Yay they're opening today!! We were there about 15 minutes before the accident that closed it down and it was scary seeing all the emergency vehicles headed there after it happened. We ordered takeout and as usual, it was phenomenal. The only reason I'm giving this 4 stars instead of 5 is that the Country Fried Chicken dinner is one of our favorites and it is always ordered for takeout. It's frustrating when the homemade biscuit isnt served with it like it states on the menu and when they forget the extra sides you order. Just a tip, double check your takeout orders. Today was our first time at Marie's and let's say we will return. I have experienced great breakfast before but today was amazing! This diner has excellent service, the food is delicious and the prices are amazing for the portion of food you receive My mother and I enjoyed the freshness and quickness of our order, along with the pleasant attitude of our waitress. Marie's also uses a great system for patrons who have to wait for their table. Once your name is added to the waitlist they collect your cellphone number to send you a notification once your table is ready. There's always a tracking app which shows you your current place in line without having to ask the host or hostess. How amazing! I had high hopes for this place; looked like a local institution. The place was fairly empty when I arrived and I seated myself. The wooden table seemed clean, but felt sticky...which I didn't like. Service was pretty good; my server was efficient but a little on the curt side. I visited for breakfast, which I think is the easiest meal of the day to prepare. I think I might have been disappointed by dinner, but for breakfast this place was fine. However, the baked goods in the glass case looked solid. Breakfasts here are pretty inexpensive, around $6. I opted for a more expensive ($9.50) meal which came with "award-winning country ham." I would recommend that as a choice. This wasn't the "something special" I was hoping for, but there was nothing wrong with the food or service, and the price was quite reasonable. read more

So the sad part about this review is I once gave this place a 5 star review. However this year has not been good for this restaurant. For instance, several months back we were one of the first people, like 3rd party in the door, and were told to pick a place. So we go in and the others have chose a place to sit. So we pick a table and were told this table is reserved. This place only seats parties that are fully there and doesn't take reservations. Ok we are already here so let's just choose another table. Today, however, was another strike for me. I had placed my order and told the waitress several times from the beginning that my order was to go because I had an appointment to go to but the rest of my party was going to eat there. So my order came out on a plate. I told the server that my order was to go and i had ordered a waffle to go. So the server takes my waffle back. The waitress brings my plate back with a box and tells me to bag it myself. I gave them one more try because everyone is allowed to have a rough day. But today was the final straw. I walk in and ask how long the wait was. I was told we could seat you now. So i go get my party out of the car. We follow the hostess to the table and were told we couldn't sit at that table. Ok. I didn't know why maybe it had to be cleaned or whatever. But then they go and sit someone who came after us, before we get seated, at a different table. Not the table that we were told we couldn't sit at but a different table while they make us wait. So i asked hey what about us. Luckily the couple they sat after us was nice enough to understand where i was coming from. So we get sitted and before i know it the waitresses were talking smack at the register (which is where all the customers can hear) about their customers. So basically the cashiers are unprofessional, rude, uncourteous, and you don't get treated fairly. So i rate them now a 1 star. You have been warned. read more

I absolutely love this place! Although it's only my second time lol I have to admit this is some of the best breakfast I've had in a while. The french toast hands down are amazing, hash browns are literally chunks of potatoes fried in a pan, what's not to love?! I will say my first experience I ordered the steak and eggs, didn't fully enjoy the steak but the loaded potatoes and French toast made up for what the steak lacked. This place gets EXTREMELY crowded VERY EARLY so unless you arrive when they first open, be prepared for a wait. My ONE complaint would be booth seating. Normally I request a booth in restaurants but at Marie's, a booth seat makes for a very unpleasant experience. First allow me to say I've been going here for years and haven't had an issue . But this morning is a different story placed an online order drove 25 mins to pick it up drove the 25 mins to get home only to realize they put pork in my food . I don't eat pork and haven had pork in over 30years .First I try calling at least 4x's finally I just drive back up there told them my issue and that pork was added to my food they offered to remake my food . In which I was good with , I sat and waited an additional 40 mins while others came in and placed orders and left . Finally my food is ready and it's wrong my potatoes were barely cooked and 2 pieces of cheese that look like it came straight out of the pack on my potatoes. Speaking to the manager was just pointless because he jumps in to straight defense mode not conflict resolution mode . During this time I watched the waitress be just as rude as can be to certain customers. I got my refund before I lost my cool and left mind you my original order was placed at 8:30 and 2 trips later I left empty handed at 11:35am . My money might not impact the restaurant but it won't ever get it again . Management is way to combative and certain waitress need to just quit because if you are unhappy why come to work . read more

Always a wait no matter what time you get there but the food is always good and you get more than you can eat. Practically everyone leaves with a doggie bag of leftovers. Prices are great. My first experience was mediocre but every time since has been amazing. Great food, friendly staff, quick service, and reasonable prices. I come back at least once a month! I recommend the southwest chicken omelet if you want something a bit different and 'healthier'. I went to this family restaurant a lot growing up. It's only a few miles from my childhood home. When I was back east visiting, I decided to relive a part of my childhood and hit up Marie's for dinner. I walked in and not much had changed (I mean that in the best way possible). The booths were a little beat up, the Orioles and Nats were on the TVs and the place was packed for a Tuesday night. I had my heart set on some blue crabs while I was in town and since it was off season, I was going to get some crab cakes. I ordered the crab cake dinner. They came out and were big, lumpy and had very few breadcrumbs in them. They were amazing. Couple 'em with some fries and I had my perfect southern Maryland crab fix. I was thrilled with what I ordered. And the price was very reasonable. The same thing in LA would have been at least twice as much and half as good. On my way to the restroom, I noticed that every single person in the restaurant (except me) had ordered the Tuesday night special: fresh made baked lasagna. And then I remembered that's one of the things I miss about small towns; people coming to a mom and pop restaurant to get the weekly special that was lovingly hand made from scratch. I wished I could've stayed another week, because I would've been back and eating that lasagna with a huge smile on my face.
