    Corned beef hash omelette
    Kenny D.

I was excited to finally get to Marie's following all the rave reviews I heard from people and read on Yelp. Ultimately, for me it was a mixed bag. The service was very good. The waitress was attentive and friendly, and in true diner lore I observed them being even more engaging with the regulars. I ordered a corned beef hash omelette and grits. The grits were solid but I was less impressed with the omelette. While I appreciated the significant bang for your buck with a huge omelette worth twice the sticker price on the menu, the meat was perhaps too plentiful and overpowered the eggs - making the dish less balanced than I prefer. The eggs also lacked the "real eggs" consistency and taste I love. It was ok, but when I cannot finish a dish that says a lot - I have a huge appetite after all! I am, however, glad my table mate said they have delicious cakes. When you first walk in there is a display of many wonderful looking cakes, and they do taste as good as they look. I tried a slice of chocolate and a slice of blueberry lemon. They were both succulent delights, making it a darn near certainly that I'll be back to the diner even if only to buy more cake!

First time here and definitely won't be our last! We came during the snow storm and called ahead to make sure they were open. Their lot was cleared of the snow and ice, but they were packed with people! We walked into a warm restaurant with lots of smells hitting our noses. We glanced to our right and found a whole case of desserts which looked so appetizing. We got seated almost instantly and had a great waitress named Kim. She knew the 6 paged menu like the back of her hand. We took advantage of some of her favorites, and they didnt disappoint! I ordered the iconic sausage gravy and biscuits. The gravy was definitely homemade and poured generously over the top of the freshly made biscuits. I also got 2 eggs and some scrapple. Kevin had the chicken fried biscuit pictured on the menu and subbed loaded brunch potatoes for his side. The portions for everything were way larger than expected and caused us to have leftovers. We will definitely be back soon! Jake n kev

We were greeted by our server and immediately seated. The place was actually more crowded than we thought it would be on a weekday evening. Ordered two fried chicken dinners. Each came with two sides plus a side salad and a biscuit, for 10.99. The food was average, but considering price and the amount of food, a great value. Not super fancy, definitely a no frills place. But if you're on a budget and super hungry this is definitely the place for you. Weekends during brunch hours are typically packed, so maybe try a week day for a shorter wait time. Oh, and how can I forget...the cakes. For the price point, serving size, and taste, these cakes are definitely worth trying. Whether they're home made or not is up to you to decide, but for cheap eats....no complaints here!!

This charming, family-run spot may be small, but it delivers big on flavor and hospitality. The food is consistently excellent, and the customer service is top-notch. The biscuits are absolutely incredible, and the steak is cooked exactly to your preference--mine was medium, and it was perfect. Be sure to try a mimosa; they're delicious and come in a variety of flavors. Arriving early is a good idea, as there can be a wait, but trust me--it's well worth i

Greeted with a very friendly smile and atmosphere. Thank you Eddie! Employees looked like they should all be exhausted, working so very hard. Extremely valuable, and varied menu. Something for everyone! No matter what you're looking for they have a homemade meal for you that feels touched with the loving values of a soul to please the pallet. Erica our waitress was a constant blur of business. There is a wait to be seated for a reason!

This place never disappoints. The food is delicious, portions are beyond generous and the prices can't be beat! We purposely take a longer route when traveling through to make sure we grab a delicious meal no matter the time of day!

Visited for the first time and LOVED IT!!! The service was great, and the food was magically delicious! The Crab and Shrimp Omelet with home fries was the meal I didn't know I needed. The Omelet was meaty with large shrimp and real lump crab (some shells included)lol. Oh, and the Cover the Plate Buttermilk Pancake that did just that while buttery and fluffy. They even offer early morning mimosa's to wash it all down without any judgement. The portions are big, the prices are reasonable, the food and service from Summer the server was great. While I don't frequent La Plata, I most definitely will now. If you're ever looking for a guaranteed great meal, good prices and service - STOP BY!

We walked in and saw a variety of food and drink items both made fresh and pre-prepared. I ordered the avocado toast and it was the best I've had in a very long time! I also ordered an iced coffee with sugar-free vanilla and it was perfect! I was also very happy to see that they carry the B-Doughnuts cinnamon buns, so I had to get one of those to-go! While I waited for my food to be prepared I took a lot around the market and they have so many different items for sale (spices, honeys, cheeses, etc.) There's a little sitting area where you can enjoy your food inside if you'd like and a nice selection of wines, vodkas and whiskeys in the back. I will definitely return to try more from this place, and take more pictures to share!

When I got an estimate and description of the cake it all sounded great. I was told there would be "monsters" on the cake and they would be edible, some trees and what not. The cake was $88.00. When I got there, the cake looked nothing like I was picturing from the conversation and it was very underwhelming, it had the logo on top, and ONE monster on the side and trees and greenery. The trees and greenery was fine but literally ONE monster on the side. I just did not expect to pay $88 for one monster. I am not one to discredit anyone's art but this was really ridiculous. . I addressed the girl at the front and she told me that they could add some sprinkles, a couple of monsters and that I would need to be charged 23 dollars AND I would have to come by several hours later to get the cake, I declined because it was the day of my sons party and his party was in just a couple of hours. This was a very sad experience and probably would not purchase a cake here again. Attached is the cake. Once I got home I added sprinkles of my own and a couple of picks to living it up. Giving 1 star because over all the cakes taste was good, but decorations and communication really lacked.

Today I finally visited and was a bit disappointed to see the underwhelming interior where it is strictly carry out and cheap metal guest chairs to wait on while the food is prepared. But it's really about the food right?! Meh. It was very hit and miss. I ordered the (4) sliders with grilled onions. They were slightly charred which was nice, and they were juicy, but they could have been cooked a little more (they were like medium to medium well and I prefer well done - I should note they didn't ask how I preferred my burgers cooked). I also ordered their jumbo fried wings and picked sweet and sassy sauce. The sauce was tasty and the wings had a nice texture, but beyond the sauce the wings had a plain flavor suggesting they didn't season the wings before frying and then coating them with sauce. Overall the food was solid but not awe inspiring. I was less impressed with their cakes. I ordered a strawberry slice and a carrot cake. The carrot cake was moist and wasn't bad at all. I've had much better, but it was edible and satisfied my sweet tooth for the day. The strawberry cake however was dry and grainy. Perhaps it was old. It was definitely a waste of $7.99! I can definitely see this being a great spot in the summer when the area is more lively and scenic. That said, I'm reviewing this strictly based on the food. Unfortunately, the dishes we ordered were a bit underwhelming. I had the burger with fries -- the fries were actually very good, crispy and well-seasoned -- but the burger itself was fairly basic and lacked the flavor I was hoping for. It felt comparable to something you might get at a fast-food spot rather than a sit-down restaurant. My girlfriend ordered the crab cake sandwich. It was decent, but it didn't stand out compared to other crab cakes we've had in the area. I would consider visiting again, but next time I'd likely focus more on seafood-specific entrées rather than traditional American options. There's potential here, and I'd be interested in giving it another try with a different selection.

WHAT SHOULD HAVE BEEN A CELEBRATION TURNED INTO A NIGHTMARE…read more After my daughter's high school graduation, our family chose Port Tobacco Restaurant to celebrate a milestone we'll never get back. Instead of making memories, we spent the evening dealing with terrible service, disappointment, and what we suspect was food poisoning. From the moment we sat down, things went downhill. Orders arrived incomplete. Food came out so late that some people were finished eating before others even received their meals. Drinks took over 40 minutes to arrive, and the daiquiris were practically melted when they finally hit the table. The graduate's special celebratory drink didn't arrive until another 20 minutes later. Then came the insult. We were charged $13 for mustard, mayo, ketchup, and hot sauce to make our crab sauce. I asked to speak with a manager, hoping things would improve. Instead, I was met with rudeness and indifference. The service never got better. For the first time in my life, I asked for the gratuity to be removed because I simply could not justify paying extra for service this bad. But the worst part happened after we left. Before we even made it home, 4 of the 6 people in our party became violently ill with what we suspect was food poisoning. My daughter who graduated had another event that evening and had to leave 20 mins after arriving because she was projectile vomiting. Watching her spend what should have been one of the happiest days of her life sick and miserable was heartbreaking. I called the restaurant the next day to report what happened and speak with someone in management. No one ever returned my call. I wanted to love this place. It's close to home and right on the water. I've been there before and genuinely thought it would be the perfect place to celebrate such an important occasion. I was wrong. A graduation dinner turned into a disaster. Poor service is one thing. Sending a family home sick is another. Never again.

On a Saturday afternoon, the wait time for a table for two was about 20 minutes, which is fairly typical for the weekend rush. Once we were seated, the overall atmosphere was comfortable, but the service left a bit to be desired. Our waiter was polite but very slow to make rounds, and it took quite a while to get refills or check in on our order. When it came time to pay, the checkout process dragged on for nearly 15 minutes, which definitely tested our patience. That said, the food itself was delicious and came out hot and freshly prepared. I ordered the chicken and waffles, and it was worth the wait. The chicken was crispy on the outside, juicy on the inside, and perfectly seasoned, while the waffles were light and golden with just the right amount of sweetness. The restaurant was pretty empty, and while the country store area is always charming, the dining room itself felt very cold .....literally. I will say my waitress, Tamara, was amazing. She was incredibly sweet, attentive, and made sure my drinks stayed full. Truly top-tier service. As for the food, it just wasn't good. The fried chicken was crispy but had a strange, almost watery taste. The meatloaf was dry and not appetizing. The chicken & dumplings were the only decent item, but it's hard to mess that up. The greens and mashed potatoes tasted old, and even though the biscuits and cornbread were warm, they tasted like they'd been baked earlier and reheheated. The peach sweet tea was good, though. I usually come to Cracker Barrel for breakfast because their pancakes (with the crispy edges) are good. But lately, even breakfast hasn't tasted as fresh as I remember. It could just be this location, but overall the quality feels like it's declined. The value is there for the portion size, but the freshness and flavor just aren't. I hope it's not the brand overall, because years ago Cracker Barrel tasted hot, fresh, and truly country. This visit just felt old and reheated.
