Moroccan empanada with side of fried rice and vegetables
    Alex M.

I discovered Marin Gourmet empanadas at the Davis Farmers Market and couldn't resist giving it a try since empanadas are one of my favorite foods. These empanadas come in different globally-inspired flavors: the Moroccan empanada is filled with chicken and pomegranate; the Scottish has lamb, potato, and mushroom; and the Guatemalan has lemon chicken (there are also Greek, Italian, and Persian varieties). I tried the Moroccan empanada, which came with a side of fried rice, blanched vegetables, and cilantro sauce. The empanada was delicious - the shredded chicken filling was tender, juicy, and tangy. The cilantro sauce was refreshing and enhanced the chicken's flavor. I was not a fan of the fried rice and vegetables, which were bland and didn't pair well with the empanada. Next time, I'd order a la carte to try a variety of empanada flavors.

I've walked by a number of times, possibly bought some bread before when a gentleman manned this stand. For the past couple weeks, I couldn't help but notice the propped sign (https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=tDZXi6zXTfsuszrzdi0AHw&userid=saJuyv784apZzH--psHZ3Q) and be tempted to try something. I succumbed on a recent Saturday in trying a couple for breakfast the next few days and getting one for a friend. I ordered two Persian empanadas (https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=f4DmcSlskJrb1Yf_aoAJlg&userid=saJuyv784apZzH--psHZ3Q), one for the friend and the other myself; I enjoyed the filling (https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=saJuyv784apZzH--psHZ3Q), beef kebab and rice, which had good flavors and a nice mouth feel as I reheated it for breakfast the next morning. The following day, I reheated an Italian (https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=_1Ck7WbV8LeYuyU9qKdjIQ&userid=saJuyv784apZzH--psHZ3Q); though flavorful, the filling (https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=dEerMRgzZo9-_ZgZmeVV7A&userid=saJuyv784apZzH--psHZ3Q) of garbanzo and lentils (vegan) was on the dry side. What really gave these a boost were the two provided sauces, the green being tangy with a bite and the black one that was tame and reminded me of olive paste. Kudos to them for their generosity in giving one of each sauce for each pastry. The young lady who helped me was learning how to use the payment device so another lady assisted. As I thanked them for helping me, the second lady generously gave me a lemon hummus which I gifted to a hummus fan friend. Will try some of the other flavors on my future shopping trips here.

Guatemalan pulled chicken empanada. So good!!!

Only had one thing: Guatemalan pulled chicken empanada. I tell you what: it. Was. Bomb. And so were the dipping sauces that came with it. So good, in fact, that I saved them and used them again with dinner. Can't wait to try more from this little gem.

    Yummmmmm!!!!!

In that sense, it's a good clutch market for those items. The store itself is small but laid out well. I really like the produce that they have outside, it gives small town vibes. Where Nugget lacks is in customer service. I have yet to meet a friendly or happy looking employee. I feel like this is something I've noticed more lately. On my trip today, the man stocking the produce had his cart in the middle of the produce section, so there was really no way to get anything. I asked him if I could slip in and quickly grab a few things, and he made a really off putting comment about if I could see he was working, etc. Yikes. I've also been rung up before where the cashier just is on auto pilot, no hello, no small chit chat. Nugget, you carry things we like, and you're close to our home. Can you please give your employees some customer service training, or some reasons to feel joyful? TIA!

It took almost 10 minutes after we arrived for someone to greet us- not sure why. However we were seated outdoors as we requested which was appreciated. The decor is bright with gorgeous colored tiles. The menu looked terrific, however we weren't provided the special vegan menu without asking for it. Wow, we were impressed with the dishes listed. We started with the chips & salsas- the chips were just as I like them; thin, crispy with salt. My sister had the vegan enchiladas and her husband the vegan pozole which he raved about. My son had the trio of carnitas tacos and was quite satisfied. I thoroughly enjoyed the veggie (not vegan as I love my queso) chile rellenos - they were divine. The sauce was perfectly flavored. We shared the churros for dessert- a bit disappointed as they were not crispy & a bit doughy on the inside. Our server was friendly and the prices were reasonable. All in all a great experience and would return.

Curated furniture are displayed on the first and second floors. The third floor is where the magic happens, with its iconic chandeliers, elegant fountain, and olive trees creating a stunning ambiance. No matter where you're seated, you'll enjoy panoramic views of the Corte Madera outdoor mall and surrounding hills. The warm welcome at check-in set the tone for a wonderful dining experience. We were seated inside, and the views didn't disappoint. Our waiter was friendly, attentive, and made us feel right at home. I ordered a glass of white wine while my partner enjoyed a mimosa. The restaurant doesn't offer a full cocktail bar, but that wasn't an issue for us. The menu offers a great selection, but I already knew what I wanted after browsing it before our reservation. I ordered the whole grilled branzino with grilled broccolini, and my partner chose the lobster roll. Both dishes were beautifully presented. My deboned branzino was cooked perfectly--moist and flaky with just the right amount of crispness on the outside. The seasoning was simple, just the way I like it, allowing the flavors of the extra virgin olive oil and fresh lemon to shine. The broccolini was perfectly cooked with a bright citrus finish. Even my partner, who isn't usually a seafood fan, really enjoyed both the fish and the broccolini. The fish was incredibly fresh with no fishy aroma, and the broccolini had the perfect al dente texture. My partner's lobster roll was equally impressive. The lobster was sweet, tender, and generously portioned, served on perfectly toasted brioche that complemented the filling without overpowering it. The portion sizes were just right. We didn't need a to-go box and we left feeling completely satisfied without feeling overly full. Although we skipped dessert, we were celebrating a milestone, and our thoughtful waiter surprised us with a warm chocolate chip cookie. It was absolutely delicious--fresh from the oven with melted, gooey chocolate in every bite. It was the perfect ending to an already wonderful meal. Service throughout our visit was prompt and friendly, and every staff member we encountered was welcoming. The restaurant was well maintained, including the restrooms, which were clean and well attended. Overall, RH Rooftop Restaurant in Corte Madera delivered an exceptional first experience. Between the beautiful setting, delicious food, attentive service, and breathtaking views, it's a place we'll definitely return to.

The flavors were authentic and flavorful without being overly Americanized. The pork curry was absolutely delicious and is definitely a must-order. I also got the tea leaf salad and immediately wished I had ordered the large because you can never have enough tea leaf salad. The palata was a great starter -- flaky, warm, and exactly what you'd want. The miso black cod was another standout. The broth it was simmered in was incredibly flavorful, and the fish was perfectly cooked. The garlic noodles were also done really well with the right noodles and great flavor -- honestly better than some places known specifically for garlic noodles. And of course, the coconut rice is always worth ordering. We skipped dessert since nothing really stood out, but I would love to see them add more traditional Burmese desserts like faluda in the future. Parking wasn't too difficult, especially if you circle around the back neighborhood area. I finally was able to come and visit on the way back from camping and this hit the spot. I got here with my friend in the evening on a Monday night. The restaurant was about an hour from close, but that restaurant was completely full. Their service was all right, but I think they just had a full house. It's definitely a spot that I would take a date or enjoy a girls night out. It's by the water and has a beautiful view. The parking lot had a ton of spots, so don't worry too much unless you're coming on a busy weekend. The only issue that I had was that the bathroom is not on site. It is a little further of a walk, but it is something to know. Their bread and butter was delicious and I also got the oyster sampler platter as well as the clam chowder. Bread and butter is always delicious. The oysters hit the spot after camping and I can't remember which ones I got, but I'm already thinking about the next time I come back. The clam chowder is a little different than most, but it was creamy and a little soupier. I enjoyed the taste and it had fresh clams in it. When I first got it, I thought that I wouldn't be as full as I was at the end. The clam chowder does have toasted bread for an additional cost, but I chose to opt out with the bread and butter that I ordered. Thankfully, I had the bread to also dip in the soup. My friend got the clam spaghetti and she thought it was good but she wishes it was a little more saucy. In addition, she got the martini that came with an oyster, but she found the martini to be a little light. Lastly, I believe we got the peach panna cotta and it was to die for. I would definitely come back for this. Can't wait to try out Hog Island again when I'm in the area!

The wait was 20-25 minutes to be seated outside. We provided our cell number to receive a text when our table was ready. Text received. Host was friendly and seated us promptly. There were two outdoor areas for Hog Island - a smaller, narrower seating area that held parties up to 4 and a larger tented, barn style area that accommodated parties exceeding 5. The table we were seated at was small, requiring us to rearrange our setting multiple times to accommodate dishes and drinks received. Even though the space was rather quaint, we avoided being bumped into. Conversations are far from private, we heard a lot. Our order of two drinks - a Manhattan ($17) and Spicy Pineapple margarita ($16) - along with a food order of a dozen half shell oysters ($48), four grilled oysters ($18), a fried fish sandwich ($24) and a rustic seafood stew ($36). Our drinks were perfectly made and perfect for a relaxing day. At $16 for a margarita in a martini glass was devastating to say the least. Highly cheap on the part of Hog Island. The same could be said for my brother's customized drink in a martini glass at $17. The oysters on a half shell were shared between two, enjoyed by both. The oysters were perfectly shucked - free of an unwanted crunch from shell pieces. They were fresh, large and delicious. The grilled oysters were prepared just right, not over grilled with a juicy finish. The chipotle sauce overpowered the oyster and the garlic oil was the ultimate compliment to enhance the natural flavor of the oyster. I am not a fan of cooked oysters, these were prepared to complement the oyster (minus our chipotle selection). There was also a miso butter option, my husband had visited previously and said it was too salty. My brother devoured his fish sandwich, said it was juicy, crunchy and well prepared. The bun was soft and slightly sweet complimenting his fish burger. Hod order came with a side of fries. My rustic seafood stew was slightly disappointing. The mussels, clams, shrimp and lingcod were prepared perfectly but there was not a lot to enjoy at $36. I did not expect a lot, just a little more than the portion received. I fished through the tomato base looking for missed seafood. With these bites there was a lot of crunching from shell bits. This part discouraged me from continuing to look for missed pieces of seafood. I am not a fan of crunchy soup that is not intended to be as such. Overall we had a beautiful experience. Our waiter was comical, the view was beautiful, the weather warm with kisses of breeze and the company shared with my brother couldn't have made it any more perfect. We would definitely return again. Apple Pay is accepted as the payment system is brought to the table. I'm sure other mobile forms of payment are accepted too. Gift cards can be purchased at the register where you check in with a hostess. Hoping my daughter's teacher enjoys our appreciation of her when she visits. The weather is almost always perfect this way. Enjoy good eats, good drinks with good company - solo or with others!
