Damn you, Marinara Pizza! Just when I decided to get serious about my health, you open a few blocks away from me, and you are the Sirens to my Odysseus, with nary a ship's mast upon which to lash myself! And your pizza is epic! Truly well balanced with a skillfully cooked crisp crust that avoids the char (which is, if we can admit it, an overplayed gimmick at this point). Sauce was the perfect acidity and not at all too sweet (which is often the sign of a pizza place just mailing it in). Had a cheese and a mushroom slice... oh, so cruelly divine! Thankfully, there is Lipitor (and my daily jaunts in Riverside Park). Don't get me started on the eggplant Parmesan hero... OK, get me started. It is a bit unwieldy due to it being a very large portion (so be prepared to take some home). The flavor is a step or two below par with the pizza. In my un-humble opinion the bread needs to be crustier, less bready and the cheese needs to be "meltier." With different bread this would be superb, though as currently prepared the eggplant does shine. Sergio behind the counter delivered a service experience worthy of 5 stars alone. Ambiance is spare in a callback to the barebones joints of yore. I have been informed that the Italian chop salad is very good.

Food was delicious. Staff were super courteous. Perfect location for a sit down quick bite! Cheers!

Cheesy Garlic Knot Special (cheesy vodka pepperoni garlic knots)

OVERALL/WHAT TO KNOW: -The special garlic knots w/ vodka sauce were great and very decadent. ARRIVAL: -Came by this place because I saw them on an Instagram account called DevourPower where they showed off this absurd off-menu garlic knot dish that I wanted to try. -I stopped in afternoon on a weekday in September of 2023. They were somewhat busy, with a few people in line both before and after me. FOOD/DRINK: -I had the cheesy vodka sauce pepperoni garlic knots. That's what they called it online. It's not on the menu so I'm not sure if it has a different name. -This dish is so dang decadent, it's amazing. If the title was not obvious, it's garlic knots, with melted mozzarella, vodka sauce, pepperoni, parmesan, and pepperoni. The flavor really slams you in the best way, but it's def not for everyone if you don't like high-fat or rich foods like this. SERVICE: -Service was friendly and normal. -They had some trouble charging me correctly and understanding my order, but that's to be expected when ordering something that's not on the menu. The name of the dish is hard to say in the first place. They had to grab a different person from the kitchen who knew what I was talking about and made it for me. -You order with one staff member at the display counter and then when you're at the front of the line, you tell the staff member at the cashier what you ordered so they can charge you accordingly. Then, after you pay, they call out what you ordered when it's ready. -I think the person at the cashier misheard me because he charged me only a couple dollars. When they called out my order to pick it up, he was confused and said he needed to charge me more. I gave him my card and he charged me again. ATMOSPHERE/LAYOUT: -It's a pretty small place with a handful of tables outside and a few more inside. -The left side has the service counter with the pizza display, then the cash register, and then the drink refrigerators. The right side is all tables and chairs up against a booth. -I didn't stay long but it seemed very clean and well-stocked.

Amazing, especially the white pizza and MVP!! The vodka slice was also 10/10. No notes

Very expensive for a regular large cheese pizza. It was $24 plus all delivery fees. Won't order from there again.

You can either take the stairs or the elevator. If you opt for the elevator, there's complimentary wine set up that you serve yourself. This would be great if the elevator took longer, but you are already there before you can finish pouring. I like that they have couches for you to sit at while you wait for your table. It's an open kitchen and you can see all of the action. The energy felt great here. We ordered the cast iron focaccia and Tuna Tonnato. The Focaccia is probably the best I've ever had. It was light and airy and not what a traditional focaccia would taste like. The crust had a nice crisp to it. It was brushed with olive oil and finished with salt. Just perfect and highly recommend. It came with a tomato chili sauce, which tasted good, but was not needed for this. We ordered the tuna to pair with the bread and it was a great combo. I ended up ordering the hangar steak and it was good. Full of flavor and the chimichurri sauce was a nice touch. Though, I would have like the taste of the beef to come out more. The marinade overpowered the meat IMO. My wife got the Rigatoni alla Gricia. I like the pasta and it was bouncy, but the dish was too salty though. We ended the night with the basque cheesecake and I have to say that it wasn't my favorite. The texture seemed off. Normally basque cheesecake is smooth and creamy, but this was a little lumpy like when you over cook eggs in a dessert. Overall, the service was great and the vibes of the restaurant was on point. The food didn't blow me out of the water, but it was good. I would come back here for the focaccia though.

It's hard to find affordable-ish dining in Chelsea these days but Fumo definitely hits that mark…read morewith mixing Italian fine dining and affordability. There are numerous locations now in the city but this was my first time going and I was definitely eyeing it for awhile. They do weekday lunch specials of $14 pastas, boozey weekend brunches for around $24/25(not including food), and $12 Sunday dinner specials on entrees as well as happy hours on weekdays from 4-7pm that include: $7 snacks, $8 wine, $5 beer, $9 spritzes, and $9 wells. I happened to come in for Labor Day Brunch on Saturday. We both said we were going to do unlimited but honestly could only finish about a pitcher of mimosa and they only charged us for the one pitcher was the nice part. I went with Carbonara Pasta and my boyfriend had the egg, bacon, and cheese sandwich with fries. I'm not gonna lie, I've never gone to aycd brunch and have not finished my food but I could not finish my entree it was so massive and filling. I haven't had a pasta this rich in ages and it was so so good and I am all for not having those skimpy little portions. He couldn't finish his sandwich either. I tried one of the fries and it was nicely battered thick cut wedge fries. Maybe I haven't been eating out alot lately but I was legit impressed. The staff was wonderful and thoughtful. The cafe in itself is very cute and Italian with black and white marble in the bathrooms, white marble bar top, hanging plants, interesting light fixtures. I'm definitely going to make a point to come back soon.

This means those dishes aren't truly gluten free for people with celiac disease or anyone who has to avoid gluten. When I pointed that out to my server, he just gave me a blank stare. I tried to explain why labeling those items as gluten free is misleading, but he seemed completely disinterested, even annoyed, dismissed what I was saying, and simply responded that the pasta is gluten free. I acknowledged that the server doesn't write the menu, but absolutely zero customer service skills. The service overall was lacking. Aside from taking our order, no one checked on us or came back to see if we needed anything. Our server was just hanging out chatting up the hostess. We had to request the bill from the manager & paid at the hostess stand. Before paying, I spoke with the manager and explained what had occured. He was more professional than the server, but he was still dismissive of my concerns and of the service we received. Management seemed happy enough to promote the "option". The food was okay, definitely not enough to make up for the poor service and handling of a serious dietary issue. Needless to say I will not be returning.

The interior was completely packed, and the noise level was high enough for my smart watch to complain. To sample a bit of everything, we shared two orders of focaccia, four pastas, and one dessert. HOUSE-MADE FOCACCIA - 10 Super bouncy with a bit of chew, this was probably the best focaccia I've ever eaten. It came generously drizzled with olive oil and alongside chopped peppers drenched in even more olive oil, which added a nice little kick. We highly recommend starting with this. TAGLIATELLE - 27 Out of the four pastas, this was my absolute favorite. I love the thin yet chewy texture of the tagliatelle, and the bolognese sauce was rich and hearty. Finished with just the right amount of Parmigiano, both the pasta texture and sauce were sheer perfection. PICI 'CACIO E PEPE' - 23 This was such a simple pasta, yet so delicious. It was incredibly creamy and cheesy, with hints of fresh black pepper flavor that blew standard at-home black pepper grinders out of the water. Despite it being the simplest pasta of the night, I enjoyed it immensely. RIGATONI - 32 This pasta was simple yet slightly innovative, featuring sausage paired with a broccoli-based pesto. There was a slight bitterness that was polarizing among our group. While this wasn't my favorite pasta, I appreciated the creativity. PERCIATELLI NERO - 35 This dish packed in more components than just pasta and sauce: plenty of crab, tomatoes, and crispy breadcrumbs on top. However, the combination wasn't very memorable. None of the flavors really stood out, and it was my least favorite pasta of the night. OLIVE OIL CAKE - 14 Served with a pile of golden raisins and fancy whipped cream, this ended up being a bit of a miss. The raisins were a bit too sweet, and the cake's texture was uneven -- some bites were soft and moist, while others felt dry. A couple of others in my group also felt the same way. Overall, I'd give L'Artusi a 4.5/5; it was mostly hits with a couple of misses. The pasta portions are quite small. Since each dish is primarily carbs and sauce, I'd imagine you'll likely need an appetizer or a pasta and a half to leave full. Still, I'd definitely come back for the focaccia, tagliatelle, and the cacio e pepe.

It's obvious they use quality ingredients and the kitchen is technically very sound. The pasta in particular was cooked perfectly. Everything we had was good and well executed, but nothing really jumped out at me or felt especially memorable. There are several places around the city that I feel can deliver a similar meal and experience without quite as much hype. That's not to say I didn't enjoy L'Artusi, because I absolutely did. It just didn't separate itself from some of the other really good Italian restaurants I've visited. Service was great, the atmosphere was nice, and overall we had a very enjoyable dinner. Just one where my expectations may have been a little higher than the experience delivered.

The ricotta based cheese cake wasn't as smooth as the cream cheese form but the citrus flavor was great.
