I have enjoyed the handful of times I have come to Mariners Inn for the food and Bingo on every other Thursday. The food is delicious. I have tried both the catfish and the cheese fries. Definitely 2 thumbs up. But my issue is the service. The place itself could use a little facelift, but it doesn't take away from the experience so much as the service has. Typically getting refills is like watching grass grow. It's a long wait. Now today was a whole different ball game. I sat with the bingo MC. I was never greeted and saw 3 different waitresses come out. No one ever brought a menu or a drink. I went inside and ordered and paid with Ashley. I ordered cheese fries. Not only was I not aware that my order was put in as a Togo, but She never even asked if I wanted a drink. After approximately 25 minutes I went in to check on CHEESE FRIES and they were waiting in a Togo box. They were hot but the cheese was already hardening. I didn't want it Togo. I wanted to enjoy hot food and good service with a good friend. I have waited tables for 12 years and I had already had a really rough day to end it with not even bad service, but no service. Disappointed is an understatement. And I was sitting with the MC. Who was as equally surprised at my lack of service. Old gas station turned restaurant/bar in downtown Hammond. The restaurant has minimal seating inside and outside. The location is more geared towards a bar however. The bar area is decent in size and there are two pool tables on the rear of the restaurant. I have only come here for drinks, since it is one of the few places in Hammond that is open until 2am almost every night. I recently tried dinner here and I was impressed. I had the filet mignon which was a nice cut of meat. It came with a nice size salad and choice of side. The bar has a good selection of beer, but not too many options for specialty cocktails. I tried to order about three different cocktails on the specialty menu and they were out of ingredients to make them. I finally settled on the Blackbeard margarita which was actually blue and quite yummy. Good location, good service, we will definitely be back. read more

Years ago, I went to Mariners for lunch and was less than impressed by the slow service. I completely missed the point of this restaurant, it is not a place to have a quick meal on the go. You come here, usually with a group, eat something then drink for a while. Don't mistake me, this place is great for drinks but the food is much better than your typical bar food. They offer a variety of appetizers, burgers, salads, and seafood. The food is consistently good. The service can be on the slower side, but the atmosphere is relaxed and never rushed. My absolute favorite is the petite filet. It is a 5oz filet with a side and salad for around $13. This is champagne on a beer budget! After sampling this many times, it has always been a great cut and prepared perfectly. The drink menu offers a few specialty cocktails and a few beers on tap. Try the skipper.. it's a run drink with a sweet taste. Buy a $12 pitcher instead of an $8 glass and share it. (Or drink it all by yourself with a big straw) Bring a group, eat some really good food, and have a few drinks. read more

Been going to mariners for years and typically always order the same thing. My family and I went the other night, including our two hungry kids. Ordered drinks, took a while...no biggie. Ordered food, literally took OVER AN HOUR for our food to get to the table. We ordered our baby mashed potatoes -- those were actually forgotten about. I requested the kids food be brought out prior to our food since there was a wait and they were starving -- didn't happen. Any time I asked the waitress about the food, I was met with the look of inconvenience and frustration, as if our presence was bothering her. Mind you, I only asked about our food two - maybe three times out of the entire wait time of over an hour. She hardly checked on us, I don't even remember getting more than two drink refills...no bread, no apps, it was awful. Worst service hands down I've ever experienced there -- and I've been a customer for 15+ years. One waitress whom I recognize to have been working there for several years came to us at the end and apologized -- we appreciated her kind words but it should have been our waitress assigned to our table. Oh, I'll add once we got our food, mine was cold, hard, and terrible, my father in laws food was bad and no potatoes for the baby. It'll be a long time before our family goes again. They were absolutely perfect.I also ordered a shrimp Po boy and fries. The fries were good as was the sandwich. But tonight we were so disappointed with the service that I feel compelled to make a complaint. Our waitress Megan was not only unprofessional, she was rude and surly. While we did not complain about my husband's soup not coming out before his meal as well as our constant attempts to wave Megan down for service, it was her outraged indignation that caught us by surprise when we inquired - in our politest tone and manner ever - about the pricing of the chicken salad. Worth the money!!!! Food was so fresh and delicious we will for sure be back in the future. The portions are sooo big, ordered the Famous fries and there was so much in the container it could have fed at least 3 people. The jim and Dave's kickin chicken sandwhich was hot and fresh! The tenders are super big and juicy you'll for sure get full and maybe even have some left over like I did! Mariners has the best onions rings I have probably ever had in my life, they were nice big onion rings that were fried to perfection! This place is defiantly my new fav. The atmosphere was lovely! There is so much decor to look at while eating here, along with maps on the tables. Service was pretty fair, we went on a slow night during the week but our waiter was friendly. The food is why I'm giving this a 3 star review. It was okay, not the best. I ordered the shrimp alfredo pasta. One of the friends I was eating with said that their food was different from the times before when they have ordered the same thing.
