I've gone to Mariners on two separate occasions now for my neck and low back. I have worked with Kimmy and found her to be a wealth of knowledge. Every single appointment at Mariner's has been helpful to me. I have been seeing Dr. Chris Morton and Dr. Christine King for over a year now, and both are amazing! Their clinical expertise has made all the difference in my quality of life. I truly owe my pain relief and increased mobility to their knowledge and skill set. I have had such success with their treatment of thoracic outlet syndrome, as well as a number of herniated discs. I am able to play volleyball 3-4 days a week now. As a former Division 1 College athlete, I have seen my fair share of Physical Therapists. Mark Kirsch and his team at Mariners are hands down the best. After surgery to repair my broken Femur, they have helped me transition from the months of non-weight bearing (on crutches) to walking in a matter of weeks. After explaining how the mechanics of the body work, they treated the areas that were causing the pain and the results were Amazing from one day to the next!!! I had to mention, they have the coolest anti-gravity treadmill that I have ever seen. It allows you to set a percentage of your body weight to help you work on mechanics without the pressure and in my case pain of walking. Its like you are walking on air. I recently completed my second stint with Mariner's Physical Therapy and both experiences were outstanding. At the start of a yearlong fitness goal I finished a training run and felt a painful pop in my knee. I limped to my car and I thought I was finished but Mark, a true knee whisperer, was able to assess the problem. Within a couple of months he had me well on my way to achieving my goal. A month after finishing that goal, I took a hard fall and injured my shoulder. The MRI showed no tears but I was unable to lift my arm over my head. I worked with Kate for nearly five months and now I am back on the golf course and swinging with ease. I was also very impressed with their handling of the Covid situation. The therapists keep the environment very safe, the aid staff keep it very clean, the front desk is very attentive, and the patient is clearly everyone's #1 priority. I went there for my back for over 6 weeks, 3 times a week, and now at another physical therapist because after all that time it didn't even feel any better. The owner never even checked on me to see if there were any questions or how I was feeling. My therapist was nice, but very new to it & not sure if she really knew what she was doing. So I feel that her being so new would have been more of a reason that the owner would have checked to see how she was doing. Apparently they are just in it for the $$. The last straw was when I had come down with the flu so I called 2 hours before my appt to cancel, note: never missed any previous appts, and they charged me for canceling. After spending nearly $1400 in charges for the 6 weeks out of pocket, not feeling any better & then charging me for being sick... That was the end for me!! Plus there gym is old & needs new equipment & updating! The one I go to now is much better, state of the art, and the therapist that is very knowledgeable!! read more

If I could give this place 0 starts I would. My mom was sent to this place for outpatient PT here about 3 weeks ago. She had just had spinal surgery and had been receiving home therapy. At her first visit here, the careless therapists removed a block from under her legs too quickly and let her legs drop, causing them to contract. This caused her so much pain she was in tears. She had to go into the ER the next day because she was in so much pain. She was doing so well in home therapy, but since visiting Mariners, her progress has regressed. The ER diagnosed her with a muscle strain. The careless therapists at Mariners caused my mom's pain. You'd think that physical therapy is supposed to help but this place is terrible. We called to cancel all of her February appointments and they insisted my mom go back. My mom's too terrified to go back for fear they might hurt her again. She initially chose this place because she's been here before and they helped her so much, but this time, they hurt her so much she can't move without severe muscle spasms. read more

I had knee replacement surgery in Feb of 2016. I had a great in home physical therapist for the first 3 to 4 weeks. The therapist was great so I asked him for a recommendation for a physical therapy facility and he recommended Mariners Physical Therapy and Mark Kirsch. I had a rough time with recovery because I had a major fibromyalgia flare up from the surgery in my surgical leg so I was there for several months. They were very patient with me and helped me progress. I am 8 months post op and I have to say I can't believe all that I can do! When I first arrived Mark asked me what kind of things did I hope to achieve thru the therapy and I told him I was a newborn photographer and I needed to be able to get up and down off the floor and to be able to get into a kneeling position to do my photography. So along with the normal recovery exercises we also worked on what I needed to be able to do. I worked primarily with Jaclyn Salle, she is awesome! She wasn't afraid to bust my chops if I didn't do my part on the home exercises! She really knows her stuff and is very personable. The whole place treats you like family. My husband was assigned by his orthopedist to this facility for rehab after having his knee replaced. My husband had to go thru several skin grafts due to an incision infection that an at home therapist caused by over extending his knee during home therapy that tore open his incision seven days after his surgery. This skin grafting delayed his physical therapy, which usually starts immediately, for several months. Despite his late start, therapist Mark has been able to get my husband back to his pre-injury movement and as a bonus helped him lose weight too. I am now Mark's patient as a 3-level cervical fusion client. His one on one attention has helped me learn to turn my head from side to side again so I can drive again. I have my freedom again which I wouldn't have without this remarkable PT group. My only complaint is the parking situation at the Santa Ana location. Mariners offers 2- hour validation, but they are so thorough that a treatment session can easily go over the 2 hour time limit. I prefer the Newport Beach location in back bay and can't wait for it to reopen after the covid 19 pandemic is over. Thank you Mariner's for helping this family get their lives back! read more

Going to Mariner's is like trusting your physical therapy to college students. Almost every session (including the diagnostics and therapy planning) was handled by an unpaid student intern. I trusted Mariner's to provide personalized physical therapy. After a month I realized that I wasted my time and money. Now that I am seeing an experienced, licensed physical therapist at a different facility I realize that Mariner's had me doing too much too soon and were not properly monitoring my actual condition (which became more agrevated with each visit). It's like an assembly line - they're making money, but are their patients receiving quality care? Not in my case. Don't find out the way I did - try a different PT. And make sure to ask up front if you are going to be working directly with a licensed PT on every visit - it is key to your well being. read more

I want to second the opinion offered by "JP C." I had the exact same experience. Please be aware that if you go here you may not be treated by a licensed physical therapist. The only time I was seen by a PT was during my evaluation on the first day of a 12-day treatment over six weeks. I was attended to by a graduate student in PT (intern) and an aide on every visit. I guess that would be OK if I had the option of being treated by a student, but I was only asked on the first visit and then it was only to be an observation not treatment. And then again it would have been OK if I received a significant discount on my treatment, which I did not. Definitely be wary. I have now had 5 sessions at this facility and I could hardly be more impressed. My therapist Dr MIchael Thorpe has meet all my expectations. Michael really spent the time to review my knee injury, establish a baseline of my knee's motion and design a course of therapy that so far is really helping me recover full motion and strength. Working with Mariners my knee's freedom of motion has increased 20% to 70% and i have confidence to reach 100% thanks in large part to the great people at Mariners. In addition to the great work i am very pleased with the punctuality exhibited at Mariners. I believe that the doctors time is valuable so I always arrive 5 minutes before my appointments and Mariners has always showed respect for my time. All appointments so far have been very punctual. As other reviewers have commented their are time that you are assisted by interns, these interns are working with me on the exercises and in my layman's view have been well versed in these activities. I have found all of the interns to be helpful, knowledgeable, bright and engaging as were all the young ladies in the front office. read more

Huge Turnover of Lymph Therapist. Been there 5 months, on my third therapist ! no consistency of treatment with Lymphedema. My father lost use of his left shoulder. He came out of the hospital and had this problem prior to that. I visited another office, but was unimpressed. Then I went to Mariners Physical Therapy. I came in without an appointment and asked if I could get a tour. The office manager (Diane), was really gracious and in no time she was walking me around the facility and asking questions about my father's situation. Diane left a positive impression on me and had a warm caring approach. She really made me feel comfortable there and the I walked away with a very positive feeling and impression of Diane, the team of therapists on staff, and the first rate facility and equipment that Mariners Physical Therapy has developed to help people with their physical therapy needs. They were also very helpful with their knowledge of medicare. Their have the knowledge, skills, and experience to get you back on track. I very much appreciate Ryan Guzman and Lalli Gonzalez and the other people that helped my father recover completely. I have 4 children and have truly been to dozens of pt offices through the years, but now I have found THE ONE! Mark Kirsch and his incredible team have never disappointed. The staff is warm, welcoming and knowledgeable. They have assisted one son with his lower back issues and another with severe shin splints. My boys are actively and enthusiastically continuing their pt regimen outside of their appointments at home and on the soccer field sidelines. We have experienced excellent results. I have been going to Mariners PT for over five years, for various surgeries (2-knee, 1-shoulder) and various sports injuries. I have had tremendous success there, working primarily with Chris Morton. Chris really cares about his clients, and consistently demonstrates his expertise and professionalism by spending the necessary time evaluating an injury to properly diagnose, therefore, he has been able to correctly diagnose problems where my other doctors did only a 2-5 min eval, and then guessed (wrong) or recommend surgery too quick. Chris constantly monitors his progress and refines his approach to adapt to what is working or not. Also, Chris has an amazing ability to determine what is wrong even when it has multiple causes; for example, my recent injury was a very painful left knee from a hiking incident which lasted for 2 years that wouldn't respond to normal home remedies/RICE, and that my knee surgeon had no idea what was wrong; but Chris, he took a long time to evaluate my knee and he figured it out it was multiple issues, put me on a PT protocol, and in 30 days I had 50% improvement; I am now 60 days out and about 90% healed; I'm back on the bikes and also hiking. Mariners Physical Therapy staff is friendly, knowledgeable and most of all caring to your needs. Due to my variable work schedule they would always make time to see me so I could get the proper and professional treatment I needed. I saw two amazing physical therapists, Mark and Kimmy, who thoroughly examined me and determined what therapy was best suited for my needs. My Orthopedic Surgeon recommeded another physical therapist group and I had little results. I spoke to a friend and they recommended Mariners and I fill truly blessed. I was in so much pain and Mariners got me back to feeling better.
