I personally have been on a quest to find the best Bolognese (meat) sauce and after trying many different pizzerias in the area, they are very much in the lead! Lots of ground beef and spices with little grape tomatoes cut in half! It's delicious! It was bland and lacked the seasoning and overall punch you expect from a good slice. I rarely leave pizza behind, but we didn't even finish it, which pretty much sums up the experience. Nothing was necessarily terrible--it was just forgettable, and with so many good pizza options out there, I expected more. The BEAST gives Mario & Franks II 3/5. Not sure if I've ordered wings from here before but I'll definitely get them again soon as they were excellent. Large wings and the buffalo sauce is delicious! They were slammed when we arrived to pick it up but the staff is super friendly and works very hard to ensure they take care of everyone and double check the orders before you leave to ensure everything is perfect. Not surprised they were slammed as the food is amazing every time we order from here. Pizzas were great and salad was plentiful and loaded with roasted peppers, olives, fresh mozzarella, and artichokes. Pizzas with toppings are always loaded up. We have loved Mario & Franks since we recently moved here a short time ago. Our fav is chicken parm. Ordered it this week and it was thin and dry. Our dinner discussion was whether it was veal or chicken. The thin dry grey pieces made it difficult. We get a side of broccoli for one order and penne for the other. The broccoli is normally crisp dark green with garlic and a little oil. This order was some broccoli in a soupy liquid. Another dish was the eggplant rollatini..it had roasted peppers and spinach. Spinach wasn't too much of a stretch but when your husband asks why he's smelling roasted peppers.....it's an issue and the taste more so. We shared one chicken parm and had to throw out the other and the eggplant. expensive dinner to throw out 2 other dinners. read more

But now I'm thinking their standars are sliding down very fast and prices going up, and I'm not getting my money's worth anymore. For example: today we ordered shrimp scampi with penne, and what was delivered was boiled penne with 5 little shrimp and lots of water. They've been posting updates with daily dinner specials. Today's was a huge tray of either cheese ravioli or chicken parm, served with 12 delicious garlic knots, for $24.99. For what it's worth, surgical masks were worn by those behind the counter. We went with the ravioli, which was tasty as expected. The knots are always very garlicky, a must order. Can't go wrong with some much-needed comfort food right now, perhaps it's time to end this review and eat a little more! Good food is something that brings us all together. I had one piece with onion rings as a topping, and the other was cheese burger. Both were great. Wish I could have tried some more. Great service and the staff is very helpful and polite. Would give higher marks here but the pizza needed to be piping hot, which you just can't get with delivery. Not their fault. Next time, I'll eat in. But still quite good overall. Poppers were tasty. Salad is where things went south. Tossed salad was provided with sandwich-sized provolone cheese cut in half. House salad should be kept simple, ie no sandwich sized cheese. Well, we used to really enjoy this place. But over the last 3-4 years things have really gone down hill. Service has been horrible the last few times we have been there, including for food pick up and delivery. But what finally did us in was the last time we ordered food. The pizza is not what it used to be, and was very flavorless and really was a disappointment. Our salad, which we added extra grilled chicken to, was even worse then the salad. The chicken was dry and not fresh. And the vegetables on the salad were not fresh and the lunch meat was cheap and flavorless. Unfortunately that was our last attempt at going to this place. With so many other quality places in the area (Mangia, La Galleria, Marcello's,. etc. , i would rather spend my money elsewhere. read more

This is a tough review to write because in certain aspects Mario and Franks shines and others they fall short. For example, you won't find friendlier people behind the counter when you come in for takeout. You'll always be greeted with a smile and your order will always be right. If you order delivery they will come within 30 minutes or less and never mess up an order (I think they are at least 30 for 30 with our orders). The pizza can be inconsistent but never bad. We've had OMG pies and decent pies but nonetheless you can't go wrong. Also, they always have great coupons like buy 2 entrees and get one free. That includes soup or salad and a big order of pasta. Basically, we feed a family of 4 with plenty of leftovers for around $30. That's rare to find anywhere. The other night we bought a $30 voucher for $15 on local flavor.com for dine in only so we decided to eat local. The interior of the dining room looks like it hasn't been updated in 20 years but in an old school divey way we were cool with that. We ordered the special lobster ravioli which came with soup or salad and chose the salad with the house dressing. Also, we ordered the seafood special (mussels, clams, and shrimp over linguini) and opted for the soup of the day (Manhattan clam chowder). Their soups are always homemade which is a plus as was the clam chowder but it was served warm/cool and not hot. We also were given a bowl of fresh baked rolls (pizza dough) and a bowl of red sauce to dip. These were delicious. The lobster ravioli was not great and swimming in Alfredo sauce with a few shrimp. The seafood had a lot of fresh littleneck clams but frozen shrimp that weren't great and frozen mussels that came on the half shell. We learned going forward to stick with the basic standard Italian fare which they do very well as I strongly recommend you do too. The best part was that after the discount from our voucher the entire meat was $3! We will continue to patronize Mario and Franks on a regular basis and recommend them to friends with the disclaimer to stick with pizza and classic dishes read more

This Mario & Franks in Fieldsboro, NJ, is much smaller than number 4 in Trenton, but is nicely finished with a small, but comfy dining room. Service is fine and prices on lunch specials are downright inexpensive. So, when I saw a Chicken Parm Sandwich with Fries and Drink for $6.99, I was tempted. Unfortunately, the excitement turned to disappointment once I dug in to the huge plate that was served. Biggest hot sandwich I had seen in a long while. At least a foot long, cut in half, and a pile of taters that took up the other half of the large square platter. To my tongue, the chicken fillets had been frozen and deep fried, rather than pan sautéed, which is the right and tasty way to cook it. Maybe cheaper to use frozen chicken and fry alongside the potatoes in a vat of common oil, but it sure kills the expectation that comes with ordering any parm dish. Really did not taste good. Ive never had a problem here before, but today my pizza came folded as if it were shoved in the box to make it fit while also being extremely chewy and hard to eat. I also ordered garlic knots but they were a sad excuse for "garlic knots". This is actually located in the small nearby town of Fieldsboro. We order pizza from Mario & Franks II every Friday and stop by for lunch throughout the week. The food is GREAT. All of it, not just the pizza. But the pizza is great too :) Large menu to choose from and different specials on different days. Inside is nothing fabulous, just your typical NJ pizzeria. When the weather gets warm they do open up a small deck so you can eat outside. They also started offering different cuts of meat that they will grill in front of you outside. Most important, the owner and his staff are AMAZING. They are always so friendly and chat with you while your there. The initial first time I've been here the wings were so great; juicy, soft, lots of flavor, fresh but it's now become stale, hard, no sauce, just your typical "I cheap out on ingredients" type of food. The service isn't that great for takeout either, ordered about 30mins ahead, got to the place only to wait another 10mins for 10wings and fries. SMH. This review is for their garlic knots only. From 2008-2010, I left my adopted hometown of Philly for Bordentown, NJ, as to make my NYC work commute shorter. While Bordentown is a quaint little small town with a decent "strip" of shops, restaurants and bars, it was by no means Philadelphia. I made my triumphant return to Philly but there has been one food item that Bordentown had on my fair city, and that was the perfect garlic knot. Mario & Frank's II in Jersey has the lockdown on the lovely dough of garlicky goodness. I have witnessed a close girlfriend of mine devour a large order of their knots by herself because of their epic greatness. And believe me, it's great to know that such a lovely knot exists out there, except for the fact that from the number of garlic knots I have tried in Philly (either before I moved to Jersey or after I returned), I have not been able to find a comparable alternative. They really are that good. Perfect size, taste and texture. Garlic and basil on the outside, soft and doughy on the inside and just chock-full of garlick-y goodness. My review of M&F's 2 is long overdue. I've been going here frequently for a number of months now and there's a number of updates I need to make. First, "most" of the staff is exceptionally friendly, welcoming, and helpful. The waitresses are especially pleasant and are very attentive to their customers. The owner, Vinny, is also very much on top of his customers and always making sure they are happy. This is a +1 star since my last review. Second, the volume and quantity of food this place produces to go out the door for deliveries to nearby Bordentown, Fieldsboro, Columbus, etc. on a friday night (more so a Friday night during Lent) is something to see. The delivery STAFF (not person - STAFF) is constantly coming and going. On a typical week night though its about as busy as most other pizza places you would expect to see in a small town. For prices and coupons, this place offers lots of "specials". They give you coupons when you leave, they advertise in the local area with the kids sports teams, they put signs out, etc. Whats nice is thier prices are pretty darn good (not great) to begin with. Some things like sandwiches are especially cheap and for less than $7 you can get yourself a nice big hearty chicken sandwich. Lastly, their food. The pizza is overall excellent in many categories. Their kitchen (entrees and sandwiches remain OK, but definitely not great-excellent) Anyway, in sum I REALLY REALLY WANT TO GIVE THIS PLACE 5 STARS, but I just can't find it in me YET.
