I went to the auto shop next door to get my car worked on and was told my service would take about 45 minutes! So I walked on over to Anthony's for a quick bite! As soon as you walk in Anthony will greet you and he is the sweetest old man ever! I truly appreciate when you walk into a business and have someone people oriented running it! We had a great convo and an even better hoagie! Such a simple meal but the ingredients tasted super fresh and they make their bread!! Super crispy outside and soft inside! Another pizzeria that has been on our list to try out. Stopped by on a Sunday afternoon and decided to eat in. We decided to go with a large plain pie (we will be back to try a tomato pie). We took a seat and watched Anthony behind the counter prepare the dough throwing it up in the air. It definitely feels like you are back in time at this pizzeria. There are tv's up and around a long with Elvis photos and cutouts. It has a large eat in area. You can also order wine or beer. Our pizza was up in about 10 minutes. It came out perfect. It had a good balance of crunch and chew to the crust. A good amount of cheese and the sauce had the perfect amount of sweetness. We really enjoyed our experience here. A coworker suggested this place, I tried it and I must admit the owner definitely has a sense of humor so that's why I decided to be generous in my rating. I ordered a large vegetable pizza which looked more a medium but ok and came out to be $29.00. This is truly the most expensive pizza I've ever eaten. For that kind of money, you could at least put the plastic round thing in the middle so it would not happen. The meatballs were all cut in half and spread thin. I wasn't a fan of that, but overlooked it and ordered a slice of pepperoni and a slice of sausage. The guy grabbed them with his bare hands and put them into the oven. No gloves. I searched for the lactase in my bag, peered at a map, saw Anthony's around the corner from our location, and in we went. Who expected an amazing TOMATO PIE along route 130 in Bordentown? I'd lived in northern Burlington County for decades and never stopped in here before (probably because I'm not a big pizza fan). I would have been a fan if I'd visited Anthony's! Husband and I ordered an entire pie and sat down on premises to enjoy it. Tomato pie is a bit different from typical pizza. The feature is the sauce and the crust - and cheese is non-existant or lightly applied. (In this case, lightly applied.) Anthony's sauce is robust and chunky, with plenty of fresh basil and garlic. The crust - dense, chewy, and crispy - stands up to the sauce without becoming soggy. We liked Anthony and his beautiful hand-tossed pie. What it is, however, is some of the best no-frills Friday night fare you're going to get in Burlington County. The sign was what got my attention - the vintage one out front with Anthony's mug on it, adorned with light bulbs. As soon as I walked in, I knew it was a winner. Anthony himself was at the counter, carefully kneading dough into the pans he prepped for his Sicilian pie. I snagged a slice that had just came out of the oven. Sweet sauce, salty cheese and a light, but crispy crust. Peroni and Coke in bottles to wash it down. It's my normal order. Tonight, however, I strayed. Sure, I got my slices, but I was inspired for some reason to order a cheesesteak. Now I've had my fair share of steaks - Donkey's in Camden, the South Philly stalwarts, the Delco steaks - but this sandwich...unreal. Seasoned beef, the right amount of cheese, perfectly caramelized onions on a damn near perfect roll. The sandwich is a gamer and worth the drive. Like I said, the ambiance is old school. Finally a good pizza place since moving to Burlington county. I do not like the love of the tomato pie out here. I just want to enjoy a nice slice of pizza and this place does just that. Both plain and sausage are great. The price is perfect with the only downside being that it's cash only under fifteen dollars. You can even get a beer there! Anthony's Pizza Town (& Cantina), has been at the same location on northbound Rt. 130 for a long time, and the passage of time has not been overly kind. The place looks like it did in 1990, with the same wall decorations and the same Anthony in his suave hat tossing dough and making conversation. If you love Elvis and think he and Marilyn are the apex of American culture, this is your place. The world may have changed, but the Anthony's pizza remains the same. It is still crisp, with mildly sweet sauce, and a hint of garlic. It is no longer at the top of the pizza food chain given the evolution of tomato pie over the decades, but it is still a solid and tasty option. It just isn't the first place you think of when considering where to get your pizza fix. In this part of the universe, Palermo's has that weighty distinction. Pizza Town is now a Cash Only operation, although my memory tells me that this was not always the case. It remains a place where you can have a beer with your pie, or even a brew without the slices. The sign out front claims this is also a "cantina." I didn't examine the menu closely, but offering a Mexi/Guat/Hondoran alternative along with the pizza, is a darn good idea! This place is the same exact way it was all the way back to when I was a kid in the 80's. Even down to the Mrs. Pac-Man game in the lobby. The pizza is very good and the ovens are very seasoned. The crush is thin and crunchy, with the mozzarella and toppings being good as well. It is pretty cool and nostalgic and you can get ice cold beer and/or soda with your pizza! The only concern I have is the cleanliness of the facility and the employees when Anthony is not present. I was a little grossed out the last time i went there a few months ago. A larger gentleman was working behind the counter making pizza, went into the bathroom and "blew it up" and came out without washing his hands and put them right into the pizza dough!!! Found this on Yelp just from having to take a ride into the area. Ordered 2 pepperoni & 1 plain (total $7). Crispy crust and real pepperoni slices on top. I personally like the usual thin slices but my point is you get quality & quantity. Hands down, worth all 5 stars that I gave. I have a hidden pleasure of trying new pizza places. I'd like to know where i can satisfy my craving at all times no matter the area. The most important factor is the taste tho. My husband and I have recently gone and purchase pizza after the store was closed and the owner made us 2 pies in his suit just so we didn't have to find another place to get food. I love this place - as someone who didn't grow up in this area and not even in the States until the 90's, it's a fascinating little snapshot of another era and place with posters of Marilyn Monroe and Elvis on every wall. But food is the most universal and timeless unifier...and the tomato pie here is awesome. Anthony will always open the pizza box and lets you admire the pie before sending you off (cash only!). This is the place you need to come to if you want New York Style Pizza cheap. Let me tell you something and that is that I know about Pizza, Real Pizza not the grease and lard bombs that you get a the chains but genuine NYC style Pizza, I know about it (pizza). And this is probably the #1 location outside of NYC to get it. Sure you can make the trek to NYC and get the real thing, but other than that this is one of the top two or three places in the NJ to Philly corridor. The owner is a tiny like mustachioed guy who looks like he was small enough to be smuggled out of Sicily on the back of a mule in a basket. He's always there and very friendly. The Pizza - well, its cheese, garlic olive oil etc blended perfectly - note the pepperoni is a small more traditional central Italian style. Locals in the area tend to go a a little wild about the tomato pie place down the road, but this place does an excellent tomato pie too. In fact I think its better than Delorenzo's! And have you tried getting into Delorenzo's on a Friday night? There's plenty of seating here and most of the time its relatively empty - not because of the food or service, I just think the owner doesn't push this place hard or advertise it (e.g. its cash only) he seems to do this for the love of Pizza! Beer is available too bottled and draft. So I've lived in the area for 12 years and never tried their pizza because the place looks like a dump on the outside. I should have known better as dives usually have good food. Inside, it was surprisingly nice... old with lots of Elvis pictures... but nice. Mostly clean too. We ordered a large plain and a large tomato. Both were surprisingly very good. Not phenomenal, but very good. Definitely worth another few trips to continue to try. Might compete for the best in the area.
