I went to college at Le Moyne which is very close so we frequented this place often. Now, everytime I make my way back to Syracuse we find a way to stop here. There are just 3 words you need to know: Hot Meatball Sub Well maybe 2 more: with Cheese That was the first thing I ever ordered from Mario and Salvo's and I haven't been able to bring myself to order anything else because I am always craving the meatball sub. I don't think i'd ever had a better meatball sub, fresh italian sub roll, toasted to perfection. Meatballs with just the right amount of sauce smothered in melted cheese. Great food, but questionable pricing scheme. Out of town to visit Syracuse University campus. Arrived to hotel late. Heavy snow. Ordered delivery. Large house pizza, dozen buffalo wings, antipasto salad, and rigatoni with sausage. Price came out to be $64, with no itemization. Wife did not question on order and ask the delivery guy for the receipt. He shrugged and said there was an up charge on the chicken wings because of shortage? We just drove through Buffalo where we ate at the Anchor Bar and there was no up charge on their buffalo wings. Lucky for the restaurant the pizza the antipasto and the rigatoni were great. Wings marked online as $11/dozen were probably like $22/dozen and should have been magnificent. Great restaurant, just stop scamming the customers. read more

Recently, I ordered a pizza, two orders of chicken tenders, antipasto salad, and mozz sticks. Delivery driver dropped off the pizza, mozz sticks, and one order of chicken tenders. I called to report the shortage - the driver returned with the salad. I threw him an extra five bucks for his gas to return, after all, it's not his fault. Still, the second order of tenders didn't show. Called again to complain, and was informed that both orders were placed in one container, which they were not - it wasn't worth arguing over. I'm an outside sales representative in a retail industrial setting - if a customer tells you something is wrong, you try your best to make it right before jumping to conclusions, which is the polar opposite of what happened here. I'd have been fine with a refund for $8.45. Instead, I was told that I was wrong. That's fine - I'll take my business elsewhere from here on out. Delivery driver? Five stars - he's a standup guy. For the second time I have had a disappointing experience. Ordered a pizza at 5:00, for delivery at 6:45. Never arrived. Checked on it at 7:05, and was told it would arrive in 5 minutes because they were very busy. Still, no delivery at 7:30. Finally gave up and canceled. I would like to tell you about my experience at Mario & Salvo's tonight. My last delivery in February, I ordered a sheet pepperoni pizza, along with a couple large pizzas and a calzone with marinara. The delivery came late (delivery guy was really nice), but they forgot the pepperoni on the sheet pizza and they forgot the marinara sauce. I called to let them know, and the girl (also nice) said she would put in a credit for my next order. We decided to order again tonight. Now, I wasn't expecting a whole sheet pizza as credit, but I was not expecting to be given only $2.50 that I had ALREADY paid for in the first order. So basically in order to get my $2.50 back, I once again had to order at least $15-$20 more food from them! We were inconvenienced the first time, as we had family over for my daughter's birthday and now we had only cheese pizzas instead of the pepperoni option on the sheet. I politely asked to speak to the manager/owner. He got on the phone annoyed and had such a bad attitude- he was extremely condescending. I refuse to be spoken to like that by any man, but especially from someone that is supposed to value their customers. I always give a restaurant a chance to make it right, and tonight it was quite the opposite. Been going here for years and it's always quality food. The service is fast and the pizza is delicious. The only downside is the limited parking in the plaza. This place is amazing. If you like a thin crust pizza with a fresh sauce that isn't too herby, but is just a little salty, it's here. We crave this pizza sometimes, it's that good. They rave about Palladinos, Giannis Bronx Pizza, and Pavones....but this unassuming spot in the same strip mall as the Dark Horse Tavern has some mighty good thin crust and garlic knots. The wings are the sleeper as well. I'll sometimes even just get a meatball sub when I'm out in the area...divinity of simplicity. Amazing pizza as long as they don't burn the bottom. If you like very thin crusted, cheesy pizza (New York style), this is the place to go. I have a few pizza places in Syracuse I rotate going to and this is one of my favorites. I have been ordering pizza from Mario and Salvo's for years now. The only downside I have encountered from them in the past are a burnt bottom, completely ruining the taste of the pizza. We stopped going to them for quite some time due them constantly burning our pizza. I have not had this problem in a while now, but my family and I are still wary about it. Our favorite is their plain cheese pizza. It just has so much flavor packed into such simple ingredients. Whenever I get toppings I feel like it overpowers the pizza's best qualities (cheese, sauce, and crust). It's definitely the kind of pizza that cannot support itself and it can be more on the soggy side due to such a thin crust in the center. They like to pack most of the crust toward the edges, which I appreciate so I can dip my crust in hot sauce and blue cheese. We also have ordered their wings in the past, either medium or hot. They're average in terms of flavor and quality. There is nothing outstanding about them, but they are still quite good and I will order them whenever I get pizza from here. A personal pet peeve of mine: I like my wings really saucy. I find the sauce is the best part when I eat wings, so unless I specifically ask for extra saucy, they come a little on the drier side. They were still nice and juicy but I like wings smothered in hot sauce. Overall, great pizza with decent chicken wings to compliment. I will continue to come back here as long as I am in the Syracuse area craving good New York style pizza. read more

I am one of those few people that aren't addicted to pizza. It takes me A LOT to like pizza or to actually crave it. Most pizza just tastes the same to me and I find it to be bland and boring. Not Mario and Salvo's! A pepperoni slice with two garlic knots and tip for under $5? Count me in. The crust is perfect, sauce is perfect amount of sweet and I usually find most pizza too salty but not here. Perfect lunch day for me :) I will be introducing this to my family soon! While waiting for my cheese and mushroom slice to warm up, enjoyed the old school pizza joint vibe (no frills, just eats and a tv). Cheese slice was a little greasy and on the blander side (which is definitely preferred to over-salted)- could have benefited from some pepper/chilis/parmesan/basil/something. Best meatball sub in town. The meatballs sit in a hot bed of sauce and they place it on a homemade roll that is to kill for. They set both in the pizza oven to melt the mozzarella cheese and toast the roll. Meatballs are delicious and you can make a meal out of the roll. The slices of pizza are thin and delicious. NOT happy with them today. Usually we are. Today, I had a piece of Brillo pad in my pizza that I pulled out of my mouth, my pizza was burnt on the bottom and they didn't put the extra cheese on that we paid for. The pizza and pasta dishes here are outstanding! The staff is in constant motion and they pull it all together. Go there on a Friday evening and watch the pros make it happen.
