My wife is from Tipp City & every time we visit the first stop is Marion s for their Deluxe pizza. Now, I'm from NYC & pizza is different but I do see the draw to this style pie with the ground sausage so finely ground along with pepperoni & plentiful amount of veggies & the square slices. The ambience is fun with the fresco style cafe vibe. The help is always friendly and the food is consistent. I have also been to the Miamisburg & Mason locations which provide the same feel. This is a Dayton area original and is a thin crust pizza. I am a sauce guy and they just use sauce straight from the can without adding any seasonings. Ok, we moved out of the Dayton area 20yrs ago and when we go back to visit family, Marion's is ALWAYS a must have when in town. Edge to edge pizza cut in small square is a long time tradition we always enjoy. The girls get the deluxe and I usually get a personal for me and mix it up. There are several places in town, we have always had a great experience and enjoy the casual atmosphere to enjoy catching up with the family. We are not locals and we found the sevice and food really good considering the place was packed and looked kid friendly inside. The pizza reminds me of the Pizza Kings in Indiana and way better than the chain pizzas. Not your typical pizza joint but really good pizza. I think we had to have been on an episode of Punked. I came from out of town to visit my daughter and son-n-law. He spoke highly of this place, so we went for lunch. My daughter and I ordered salads and garlic bread. It took over 45 minutes to receive our food, which was subpar at best. The cheese wasn't even melted on the bread, which was their excuse for taking 45 minutes. But this was only after complaining several times, then one of the employees called my daughter "stupid" and screamed "F you" at my son-law, when he reacted to her calling my daughter stupid. Also sat there and watched another worker chewing on a straw and flinging her saliva all around the food that was waiting to go out. So over all, it was an interesting experience. I had a coupon downloaded on my phone for 25% off. When I arrived I had a difficult time getting my coupon up and the young lady that was mopping the floor was irritated with me. Excellent pizza! There were four pizzas all together in our party and all were delicious! Their sauce stands out, even underneath extra cheese and three to four toppings. The crust is neither thick and doughy or chewy. It's a great thin and crispy crust. Some pizza crusts take away from the pizza because it is drug down by all this extra doughy crust- or is just "there" with a slightly chewy platform. This actually ADDS to the pizza and I'm not really a thin crust devotee. I can't stand a super doughy pizza with little sauce. This had the right amount and a good balance of flavor. I had extra cheese, pepperoni, and pine ale. It was perfect and *just* the right amount of browning on the cheese. Four stars because there were some limitations to toppings and no garlic sauce. Whether this is coronavirus related or not, I don't know. But one person in the party wanted hamburger on their pizza and they didn't have it. Nor do they appear to have green olives or artichokes- my favorite. The only negatives are the large pizza is only 13" in diameter. That is a medium at some places and the deluxe was nearly $20 each. That's way too expensive for that size. Knowing that won't happen across their locations, go in knowing it has its charm, but is not really clean or organized. People that order online are told to cut in front, not a big deal, but annoying when 6 do and you don't move in line at all. Iceberg lettuce with a few slivers of carrot. The spaghetti was forgettable. Plain noodles with a bland and watery tomato sauce. I drained at least an ounce of water from the bottom of the aluminum tin in which the pasta was served. The garlic bread was soggy and I could not eat it. The staff was friendly but no one refilled our drinks or really paid much attention to us. The decor is outdated and there are a lot of pictures of famous people who may have once eaten here, but none from the last 3 decades. For dinner that night I had only one thing in mind, Marion's Piazza. Since trying Cassano's earlier this year, it has been on my radar for any trip up north. Marion's does not deliver, but fortunately there was a location within a few minutes drive our hotel for the night. The inside of the restaurant was much larger than I expected, especially compared to the Cassano's location I visited. There is a large counter at the back of the room where orders are placed and where phone ahead orders can be picked up, as I did on this visit. Beware that the restaurant is cash only. My wife and I decided to just order one large Marion's Super Cheese - pepperoni, sausage, mushrooms, onions and green peppers topped with a mound of cheese ($17.50 for 13). The order was ready in ten of fifteen minutes, and it was still hot when I brought it back into our hotel room. Once I opened the pizza box I knew that we were in for a treat. The amount of toppings covering the pizza was more than anything I had ever seen before. The thin crust pizza was sliced just as I expected into many tiny pieces. Each piece was perfectly crispy and there was a fair amount of cornstarch on the bottom. Alright I'm bias, I'm from Dayton so Marion's was always a staple. As another review stated, this is "Dayton style thin-crust" pizza. It's a no frills establishment and has a very down to earth neighborhood atmosphere. Someone you can grab some pizza and a drink and relax at. The food to get here is the pizza! I recommend the deluxe large. The small sausages cover the entire pizza with mushrooms, onions and anything else you could ever want. It is a bit pricy but it is pretty filling and delicious, definitely worth it. I'd say two/three fully grown guys who are hungry could definitely demolish a large. The pizzas are cut into tiny squares so they are very easy to eat. This is not the best pizza you've ever had but it's warm inviting and a great place for a meet up to fill you up and leave you satisfied. They do serve sandwiches, pasta and sides as well but I always get the pizza as it's very nostalgic. Wonderful Pizza!!! We ordered a large pizza with sausage, onions and tomato slices. The crust was wonderful! Thin and crispy all the way through to the middle with no sogginess whatsoever!
