Met up with a good friend on a Friday to grab lunch. It's been a long time since I visited this location, and was happy to see they still offer a lunch special. Orders are placed at the counter, and numbers are called out when your order is ready. The interior is very open and bright due to all of the windows and natural light coming in. Their lunch special includes 1 massive slice of pizza, a side (fries, onion rings, jalapeño poppers and a few other options) and a soft drink for $10.50. The pizza slice can be either cheese or pepperoni. I got the cheese slice with jalapeño poppers and the order came out pretty quickly. Food was good, my friend from NY swears it's the closets thing to NY style pizza in the area. I'll admit it was good, and a reasonable portion. A good friend and I went for our Friday lunch and decided to get some pizza. We stopped at Mario's and taking advantage of their lunch special which is basically one pizza slice with either pepperoni or just cheese and a side item plus a fountain drink for only $9.50. I've had this lunch special before and it's been a while so I wanted to go back. It was just as good as last time coming in. They have a pretty large dining area and it's clean. This location is great for families or large groups with large booths that can accommodate around 4 people. Ordering is easy with a large menu board posted up on the wall beside the cashier and there's an open view of the kitchen. There's also a fountain drink station along with an area for condiment and napkins, as well as seasonings like garlic, crushed red pepper and Italian seasonings. Everyone is really nice that works there and took our orders quickly. We sat down and within less than 10 minutes we had our food. The pizza slice is pretty big and alone will fill you up. It is thin crispy with a little bit of flop, but it is very good. I grew up in New York City so I have had really good pizza and this is the closest to New York pizza that you're gonna find. The sauce on the pizza is not acidic it's flavorful, but with the herbal flavors and the cheese is a good balance, and a slight bit of grease that in my opinion is necessary for a great slice of pizza. I picked onion rings as my side. They were cooked perfectly and you can bite into it without the full onion pulling out of the breading plus they are just tasty and their dipping sauce is really good that goes with it. This is one of my favorite lunch spots and would highly recommend if you want good quality pizza. read more

Hadn't had Mario's in a while and since we were in the shopping center, figured we would show some love. The staff was friendly and took our orders quickly. We decided to dine in because when we arrived there was hardly anyone inside. The disappointment came after we sat down and waited on our number to be called, here came the crowd. While the door had signs that clearly stated a mask must be worn, several people entered without one and nothing was said. One guy clearly a regular and wearing a FedEx shirt, walked back and forth from the front talking to one of the workers and back to a booth. They never came out to wipe down tables after people had gotten up from eating. In fact none of the areas that had high volume traffic were wiped down. The one thing they did do was block off every other booth but that didn't really matter for those who sat near ordering because the line basically closed them in and exposed them and the food to whatever. I watched another worker come out of the bathroom and immediately start working and didn't bother to put gloves on like the others back there. Mario's pizza has been a go to of mine for years! Their pepperoni pizza is one of my favorites and can be ordered by the slice. I'd suggest ordering a slice or two if you go, as their slices are huge. The pizza sauce they use is what I think makes their pizza so good! It taste fresh and delish. I've tried a few things on the menu but in my opinion the pizza is the best. Their cheese bread is really good too! The food was delicious but the customer service was very disappointing! We ordered our food at 8:45 thinking we had 45 minutes to eat before store closed. When they called our order #, we were told very rudely we put it on a box because you're gonna have to leave. Supposedly there was a cooler problem and they had to close urgently. Yet we sat outside to eat and numerous people kept coming in to pick up to go orders and they were cleaning up in back so no reason we couldn't have set at the table to eat while they were preparing to close. The biggest thing that stands out to me about Mario's Pizza is their pizza. Literally, they have the biggest pizza slices! My husband ordered 2 slices for himself thinking it wouldn't be enough, but sure enough, he'd met his match. We got another for our daughter and they were nice enough to not only help us make a meal out of it to get her a drink but sliced it up into easy-to-eat bite-size pieces. I ordered baked ziti and was surprised by how large it was. It was generous considering the standard size I'm used to getting at other pizzerias. I've completely given up on the location on New Garden, mainly due to service glitches, but also they have a tendency to overcook the crust - some folks appear to like scorched pizza crust, I am not of that ilk! I placed a broad order for pickup which would cover several meals, something I'm doing more of lately because cooking for one has little appeal! I mix a number of items so that there are some that will "keep" - salads (dressing on the side), sandwiches without mayo or dressing that will get soggy, etc! On this order I chose a Worx Pizza (memories of Pizza Hut's Super Supreme - life was simpler then), a side Chef Salad, a Garden Salad, an Italian Sub (no dressing), and a couple of slices of pizza with Ham, Jalapenos, and Pineapple - my son swears this is the BOMB (I take it that is a good thing)! As with the other location, the result was a very mixed bag. Salads prove to be excellent - Garden Salad was very well sized and fresh, side Chef Salad did not skimp on meat and cheese; Italian Sub was very, very nice (banana peppers rock) & well filled! Pizza was a mess. Ham on the large slices was rather sparse - and the crust was charred, really charred on both- I seriously wonder how much of this crap the folks who "cooked" it would eat - I'll donate what I received! The Worx pizza was no different, charred on the crust and bottom! I might order some items from this pizza restaurant, but it would definitely not be pizza, which is what a pizza restaurant should be about. From specialty pizzas to wings, salads, subs & entrees, Mario's definitely has something for everyone! We gave them a try early this year and I'm happy to state that we've been pretty darn happy and satisfied just about every time. I grew up on NJ & NY pizza; my mother & I make really delicious homemade pizza as well so with that said, sure I can be a pizza snob but I'm very open minded! Mario's is the absolute closest to Jersey pizza that I've experienced down here in NC. Our orders usually vary between pizza, appetizers & salads; some of our favorites are the classic plain pie (cheese pizza as they call it in the south), a white pie with sausage or various toppings, the sweet & spicy wings and the Buffalo wings are both fantastic and we're big fans of the garlic cheese bread, garlic knots, toasted ravioli and the chef salad. We've had two mishaps with either our order being wrong or something was forgotten however they were happy to accommodate us and fixed both situations promptly (or we were given a credit for next time). Dining area is open currently and takeaway available. Classic NY style pizza and many other delicious foods. I've eaten at many Mario's pizzas in the triad area and they never disappoint. I enjoy getting the Daily special they have until 4:00pm of a slice of cheese or pepperoni pizza, drink and a side. I love the side salads they have with the banana peppers, olives, onion, tomatoes, cucumber, mozzarella cheese and lettuce. Other favorites of mine are the garlic knots, sweet chili wings, philly cheesesteak and the CANNOLIS. You can get a 24" pizza for large parties you'll have to put in your trunk of the car to get home, big and delicious. Walked in and Placed order. After 45 minutes decided we would "check on our order". After being flabbergasted by the staff member's attitude and gruff comment telling us "It's down there." We found out that ".. down there" means the prep area. Our order had not even been prepared to go in the oven!!!! After 45 minutes!!!! We have eaten here before and the food was pretty good. Staff never said anything about an extended wait. If they had, we would have moved on and stopped in some other time. Requested refund and was given minus the $9 worth of 3 drinks. (That would have been a great time to offer an apology and provide some service recovery.)
