All I wanted tonight was a pizza, a 6-pack and a Reds win over the Dodgers. I found Mario's on here and decided they'd get my money. When I got there, the lady at the counter said the pasta was the ticket and there went my dreams. I was NOT disappointed! I got the baked ziti with a salad for my appetizer and the cheese steak with onion rings to fill the gap. I had my food and was out in less than 10 minutes, that's what I call service! After finishing the ziti, the sandwich is clearly going to be lunch tomorrow. I could have fed all 3 of my kids off this one order! The sauce could have used more garlic and a little sugar, but the massive amount of cheese made up for it. They definitely satisfied my need for gooey cheese. The worst thing I can say about Mario's Pizza & Restaurant is, their food doesn't come with adequate gut-buster warnings. I've eaten here a few times. The veggie sub (essentially a veggie cheesesteak) was delicious and the pizza was even better. I also tried the onion rings (really good) and my husband had the calamari (ok). Their tiramisu leaves a lot to be desired though. I own a high end vacation rental business and travel quite frequently. I searched for the best pizza in Rocky Mount and Mario's Pizza came up on the list! I was very pleased to be greeted by the Manager who was very friendly....the server was also a gem! I ordered artichoke, mushroom and onion pizza and a beer! It was great! I was happy to enjoy Al Fresco dining in the shaded front of the store with a nice breeze! It was a welcome experience after driving for 5 hours straight! Can't comment on the dine in experience as we did take out here. We were spending a night in Rocky Mount and decided to stay in our room and dine. We ordered two 10" pizzas - one a vegetable, another a mushroom & sausage and then a house salad. Everything was super fresh and tasty. The crust/sauce/topping ratios were spot on and each component complimented the other. It was obvious that the food was handled with care. We got the Deluxe pizza sans black olives, and with onion. Very good pizza. The 10" was perfect for 2. Also shared a house salad with ranch (also sans olives). This beautiful and tasty salad came with bread, which we really didn't need. My only complaint was that our salad and pizza came out together, but it was all so good that we'll overlook that. Had a great meal here on July 1, 2012. Enjoyed bruschetta, salad, pizza, beer and wine. The bruschetta and pizza were among the very best I've had, made from fresh ingredients and nicely presented. A garden salad was big enough for 2, also very fresh. Nice wine list with several available by the glass, all reasonably priced. More than a dozen beers available, all in bottles. No beer on tap. Mario's Pizza & Restaurant is my favorite place to eat in Rocky Mount-- I literally dine in or get takeout at least once a week. Personally, my personal favorite dish is the Baked Ziti (though the sliced pizza is a close second). I'm a vegetarian, but I've also heard great things about their Shrimp Salad and Philly Cheese Stake! If neither of those sound good, like I mentioned earlier, the pizza is a MUST (and a slice is VERY big. Be prepared for large portions)! The service and waiters are amazing at the Restaurant... Let me begin by saying that we have had quite a few good experiences here, unfortunately the steady decline of quality was so severe that it culminated with Mario himself throwing a childish fit and refusing to recognize the fact that my meal was under cooked and poorly prepared. I ordered the chicken parmigiana, which was disgustingly undercooked and crunchy in the center instead of crunchy on the outside. When told about the issue, Mario refused to accommodate us in any way and didn't seem capable of doing simple math to calculate a discount. I offered to pay for the percentage of the meal I ate, he refused and could not offer a suggestion to save his life. It was an awful experience and we will not be returning our patronage. read more

Mario's We ate this evening at Mario's. This was predicated upon our web search for an Italian restaurant. When I read Mario's menu, I was so impressed that I had to tell my wife that we should try this to see if the actual place was a good as the menu promised. After being served, we tried our ordered entrée and we were total impressed and thankful that we choses Mario's. The dinner from antipasto to entrée was superb. We stopped here on our way down 95 to grab slices to go. They let you customize your own slices, which takes a little longer but is totally worth it. Also, the slices are enormous! My husband got 2 (sausage and black olive/onion) but I'm glad I only ordered one (margarita). It was definitely the size of two usual slices, and they were all very good. We ended up in Rocky Mount as we were evacuated from Rodanthe. We read some reviews and decided to give it a try. There were 13 in our party. Everything that was ordered - from salads to pasta dishes to the pizza was excellent. Everyone in our party was more than happy with their choices. Don't forget to order the garlic knots .... Delicious! Our waitress was fantastic!! We do have 1 in our group that is allergic to Parmesan cheese. The description of her pasta dish did not mention cheese but arrived with it.
