Not only delicious food, but also great service and charming atmosphere complete with Frank Sinatra songs playing in the background . The place looks like a corner bar from the outside so I was surprised to find the food was beyond good. We had hot baked bread and had to try the garlic bread with melted cheese- magical! Walked in and had a dinner after a long day, was in the country for a WORK trip. had to use a company card for expenses and not being from USA of course we couldnt just give tips without knowing. Our waitress was Hailey, she was pretty nice & i had to round up my bill, when getting back to the car. 2 GROWN MAN came up and f-ing insulted us for not giving enough tips. so much for a nice service, if you had explained nicely to us we could have known. I ordered from Mario's for the first time since moving to Highland Mills from California. We placed our order on 4-10-2022 at approximately 5:00 pm. I am still adjusting to "New York pleasant" so you can imagine my surprise when I was created by one of the most pleasant human beings I have had the privilege of conversing with. I sincerely apologize that I did not catch her name, however she was polite, professional, and extremely patient. The human aspect of this review actually gets better. Our pizza arrives and is delivered by the most polite young man. At this point we were worried that the food must be awful if everyone is this nice...nope! Amazing food and service. We weren't searching for Italian but thankfully they're open on a Monday unlike their competition. Portions are huge great for a family dinner. Ordered the panzarella bread that could have been my entree, amazing. The inside is decorated so nicely with amazing chairs to sit in. Nothing like your normal Italian place. The staff all work together to ensure the customer is happy which is usually not something you see. I've always loved this place since I lived in Highland Mills during my adolescent years. I have been here recently with my fiancé and then recently with my best friend and his family and the food & service is always amazing. The atmosphere is comfortable and the furniture and decor has been updated to warm up the space. The drinks are good and the wait staff always makes sure that you have everything that you need. I had a gemelli pasta dish with sausage and spinach at it was amazing. The shrimp parmesan was also very good. I can't wait to go back. This place has a great hometown feel. Many things have changed in highland mills since I lived there, I'm soo happy that this place did not. Highly recommended. read more

It's a three star I'm tired kinda review. My wife can understand and appreciate the praise that this place gets. That would be because her food was prepared correctly. I ordered a cheese and pepperoni calzone. Human nature would say that it should be served hot especially since we waited so long. What occupies that site now is pizza that is tasteless, bland, sad and pathetic. It's hard to tell the difference between the pizza and the cardboard box it comes in. It's like they gave up. I ordered a pizza that was supposed to have basil. I'm assuming the burnt green flecks were basil at one time. Now they're just charred plant. Don't waste your time or money there. We just ate here yesterday. We were here for a repast luncheon. We are not from the area, but this was close to the cemetery. The food was delicious!! Everyone at the luncheon was raving about the stuffed flounder, chicken parm, salad, sausage and meatballs, and pasta. The chicken was so tender you didn't need a knife to cut it. It melted in your mouth. The salad was seasoned nicely and had chunks of fresh mozzarella that was very tasty. The flounder was stuffed with crab and shrimp and was topped with lemon. The fish was fresh and delicious. Being Italian myself, I am picky about my meatballs. These didn't disappoint. They were also flavorful. The wait staff was friendly, accommodating eager to please. What an amazing find! While in the area (Woodbury Commons) we decided to look for a casual spot to grab a bite and a drink. Came to Mario's and we couldn't have been happier. There is a nice big dining area in the front, but we went in the back towards the bar area. The bartender was so polite and they even had these delicious drink specials. You could tell this was definitely a nice local spot because she knew all the regulars by name which was really sweet. Drinks were made perfectly, and we got some bar food which consisted of chicken tenders with real french fries lol, bacon wrapped scallops, pizza, and the most INCREDIBLE mozzarella sticks! When we told the bartender how good they were that's when we found out they were actually made there!!! Everything had a nice crispy crunch to it, and the mozzarella inside was so delicious! Biting into it was like when you see someone bite into cheese in a commercial and it just pulls but it actually happened with these! lol! You can immediately taste that nothing there was frozen like so many other places. Everything was homemade and it made a huge difference. Although as amazing as Mario's was, there was one small problem. I only wish I lived closer! lol! But seriously, definitely an amazing small business to check out. We came here on a Saturday night, a group of 12 adults, with no reservation and they immediately accomodated us. The service just kept getting better... our waitress was so sweet to ask the kitchen any questions we had. For example, we wanted to see of there was a lobster ravioli and she came back with good news from the kitchen for us. That Mario's has been around for as long as I can best remember--and that's a long time--says a lot about about the dearth of alternative dining options in Highland Mills, a small village in the Town of Woodbury. It's a few miles north of Woodbury Premium Outlets. Mario's is really made up of four parts. One is the bar. It's not the most upscale bar and tank tops are still in fashion among the mainly male patrons. It's good for watching sports and drinking beer. Two, it's a pizza shop that delivers in the area. In my opinion, the pizza is good old fashioned pizza that drips oil and cheese. Make sure you lean over so it doesn't get anything on your clothes. It's the kind of pizza we grew up on--it's round, not thin crust and delicious. Three, it's a sit down restaurant that serves traditional Italian dishes like meatballs and spaghetti or veal parmigiana. Stuff like that. The dining room has been redecorated, but still looks a lot like a finished basement in terms of decor. But to be fair, it's appropriate in terms of the cuisine. Four, it's at an intersection where it serves as a marker when you give driving directions. Its neon sign is very conspicuous, so you tend to say, "make a left at Mario's," or, "if you see Mario's, you've gone too far." As a restaurant, it's two star. As a pizzeria and road-mark, it's four star. As a rural dive bar, it's three star. So, it sort of rounds out at three stars. But, if ratings are based purely on local tastes and competing options, you can add on a star or two. read more

Came here for dinner and it's a good local joint. The pizza was great by my New York standards! The garden salad was nothing particularly special - mostly just iceberg lettuce and some vegetables, but not bad. We also ordered the muscles entree as an appetizer which was delicious. We really enjoyed the sauce, especially with the bread. The wait staff was good for the most part. (There was one instance where she forgot to bring us plates for the salad). My only other complaint is that the dining area is close enough to the bar that we could hear yelling from people watching the game in the dining area on a Friday night. while the food is tasty enough, the service stinks. we ordered take out dinner on a Sunday at 430 pm. I asked for the total cost, the waitress said she would call me back--she didn't. My husband picked up dinner and when he got home, the shrimp (which i ordered over the phone and was charged for) was not on my penne vodka. I called Marios to tell them of their mistake and he drove back to Marios. When he got there, the waitress charged him and he paid it. (The waitress told him it was 7 bucks and he handed it to her. Then she said, well actually it's 7.58 with tax and made him pay it!) When he got home, we looked at the original reciept and saw we got double charged, My penne vodka with shrimp (it was also supposed to have prosciutto--it didn't) cost a total of 24.00!! Yeah, the food tasted okay (oh yeah, the $7.58 gave me 5 shrimp). But when there are SO many other Italian places, I won't miss this one.
