I'm trying to understand why this restaurant has close to 5 stars. We went to brunch here with our family and our total time spent there was close to two hours. They didn't check us in when we got there. When we were trying to figure out where to sit, they were rude and said if you see a table that could fit your family you can sit there and we can clear it. They didn't clear it. Not family friendly, seemingly. It took about 35 min. for our order to be taken and that was only after two tables before us were served and we had to ask for them to take our order. When we got our drinks they slammed it on the table by the mouth of the cup. The food was also subpar. The servings were really small for the price. Not only did I have to ask for our waiter to come and actually serve us, the food we got, 50 minutes later, wasn't even cooked. The burger was raw and the "Air Fries" were still frozen, the hot dog was cold and had obviously been sitting there for a long time. Great addition to Bay Street. Breakfast has waffles from sweet to savory, omletes, biscuits and gravy, and of course chicken schnitzel (which is like a chicken fried steak). For lunch I HIGHLY recommend the Rueben. Literally the best Rueben I have ever had. (And I'm a bit of a Rueben connoisseur.) or the Gypsy burger. With soup (I love her chowder). Dinner is a very tough choice, everything is to die for, but chicken marsala is one of my favorite dishes and Mari has outdone herself. Sooo good!!! Severs are welcoming and attentive. So good! I came to the realization after eating here that every restaurant in this little stretch of town is so good! Specifically- it's a great place for seafood. I ordered the halibut fish and chips and it was perfect! The breading was light and the fish was perfectly cooked. I also thought the fries being air-fried was a really nice touch. We have stopped in twice now and both times the food and service have been exceptional. The first time was very busy and we had a long wait but the food was so worth it! I went to this restaurant because it was the only one serving breakfast in the area. I ordered a special lobster omelette. This is the worst I ever had.I grew up in New England and I know what lobster is. This was not lobster it was crawdad or crawfish or maybe Langostino but not real lobster meat. The omelette itself was not light and fluffy was just a flat piece of egg not sure if it was real whole eggs And the sauce that was served with it was heavy greasy sauce hard to explain.I told my server about it and he told the owner she came out with an attitude like I was lying or something.Not sure where all the great reviews came from.Not the special omelette. read more

The waiter was really nice and personable and it was a very welcoming atmosphere. We chose to sit outside and the weather was perfect. We had high hopes after looking at the menu, and the macaroni and cheese was wonderful. Unfortunately, the fries that came with the burger we ordered were cold and dry, and my breakfast scramble was lukewarm with toast that had no color on it and no butter or jam. Sweet restaurant in great location. The menu was very interesting with an eclectic mix of fare. I had the pan seared halibut. I looked nicely seared with a crusty outside. However, I needed to use a knife with force to try to cut through it. The inside was flaky but dry. The outside was hard to chew. My partner had the seared scallops in pasta. It was good. Funny thing is this was not seared much at all. It tasted good but was drowning in a sauce that could have had more flavor. The side of pasta with the halibut had a sweet marinara sauce. Meals for six of us totaling $150 ( no beverages) halibut fish and chips did not taste like halibut..don't know what it was..as one man said, I am not sure what I just ate! and fries were cold as was all the six entrees. Crab melt, if there was any crab we did not taste it nor see it..so absolutely undesirable meals and the price was high but had we had the seafood we were expecting we could tolerate the cost. It is not often that I get to do a review such as this but OMG the food is so amazing here. I do not even know how to describe it other than better than you can make it yourself. Homemade vibe is so big here. The cook is just amazing. The service goes above and beyond anything you can get elsewhere. Another customer forgot her reading glasses and the waiter took his time to go over the menu with her. My hot chocolate was also so unbelievably good I can not describe the flavor. I was visiting my Dad from Los Angeles and he recommended we go to Mari's kitchen for dinner. I love visiting Bay Street and love to try new places. Plus, he was raving about the food. I ate on a special Ronanian dinner night, so my comment is to that meal. It was good, reminiscent of family fare I have enjoyed in Croatia, Hungery and old Bohemia. What I liked look least was what I assumed would be my favorite, traditional Romanian sausages. One if the spices did not marry well with my taste buds. The service was very good. Stopped in on a Monday at about 1:00. There were a few guests outside, we were the only ones inside. Server was friendly and attentive. Food left much to be desired. My husband ordered the dolmas appetizer, I got a house salad and my father a cup of clam chowder. The dolmas were $13 and came with 4 of them, only. It also came with bread and marinara which we found odd. The clam chowder was more like a Smokey potato chowder with some clams in it; my salad was your average salad. The escargot was super, super, salty and tasted a little dirty as well. I've had much better. We found the halibut tasted good but it would have been better served with something else- the linguine and salad with it was odd. To sum this up, Mari's Kitchen reminded me a lot of the Gordon Ramsay show where he rescues restaurants. They need a little help. Go Nextdoor to Restobar, you'll be glad you did. EDIT (hours later): I'm taking back a star. We just had dinner and are still talking about how bad our lunch was. We all agree we'd rather have McDonalds than this place. read more

Possibly the worst food I've ever paid for. "Clam" chowder had no signs of clams- mostly bacon??? Fries were limp - thawed frozen things that weren't fried- tasted of the freezer.
