Wow. This place is AMAZING! We were pleasantly greeted and seated immediately. Our drinks were ordered and the waitress, Marisela checked on us quickly. She was very sweet and patient. We ordered the chicken wings with Costa Alegre sauce, it was the best sauce ever!! A TON of garlic. So good. The sushi pasta was delicious and a huge portion. And the quesabierra tacos were without fail some of the best we had. They were too big and we had to take them home. We highly recommend this place for lunch or dinner. Had lunch here with one of my besties. We were seated right away which was cool. It was 11am, still before the lunch rush if there is one. We were 2 of maybe 10 people in there. We asked for water, it was warm and a little muggy in the restaurant. Our waitress didn't speak a word of English but we spoke enough Spanish to get us by. 15 min later, she came and asked if we were ready to order. Still no water. We ordered an appetizer to share and our lunch plates plus water. About 10 min later, we got our appetizer. Still no water. We asked for water again. Our lunch came 10 min after that, still no water. We asked again and finally got an 8 oz glass of water. No utensils or napkins. We asked for them and more water. We got our utensils and 1 napkins each. No water refill. We didn't see the waitress again after that. The food was okay. Definitely overly hyped on social media. I didn't finish it because it was way too spicy. Didn't have the water to cool off my mouth. Asked for the bill so we could leave. We paid the bill and left. When I got to my car, downed the bottle of water I had in there because after an hour of being there, split appetizer, a spicy shrimp dish, and just an 8 oz glass of water (no ice, btw)..I was dying! I don't think I'll be going back. I'm sure others had good experiences but that was not a good 1st impression for me. Unattentive waitress, warm temperature, unprepared table, stingy on the water. I had a very concerning experience here. While drinking my beverage, I discovered a glass shard in the drink. I had already taken a sip and felt it on my tongue before immediately spitting it out. I notified staff right away. They removed the glass and replaced the drink, but there was no incident report, explanation, or real follow-up. Finding glass in a drink is a serious safety issue, and it was handled very casually. Thankfully I wasn't injured, but this should never happen. I'm sharing this so others are aware and so the restaurant takes drink safety more seriously. read more

Went to Costa Alegre after our gals trip to SLO. We were hungry and tired we were seated right away by a pleasant young man. Our orders were taken promptly. While being served a Zombie ( type off shrimp soup/broth) with tostadas while we waited. We ordered an appetizer, and 3 different types of seafood, which did not disappoint one bit. Jonathan and Ulysis were very attentive and a young lady whose name I didn't catch. The music was playing, good vibes might I add, but not to overpower a conversation. For someone who literally drove all the way to San Jose just to eat at that location, I was thrilled when I heard they were opening one locally! I am obsessed with the food! My husband and I go at least once a week -- we LOVE it and highly recommend it. I've recommended it to my friends in Gilroy and every single one of them has come back saying they loved it and will definitely return! Five Stars! First time here -- and I was impressed right from the start. There's plenty of parking, and as soon as we stepped out of the car, the place smelled amazing -- great first impression! Arrived at around 3:30 on Mother's Day. The place was packed which wasn't surprising since their food is very good. I requested to be put on the list for a table for two. I was told it was at least one hour and 45 minute to two hours wait. Another group came in asking for a table for 4. They were told it would be about an hour. We left. I'm not sure why a group of 4 was being given only an hour wait, but I left with the suspicion that it was due to my primary language of English. Everything was great from the start. The hostess was very friendly, and our server (Jonathan) was super nice and very knowledgeable about all the dishes and drinks. It's been a while since I was last excited about going out to eat. But I was thoroughly impressed by this restaurant tonight! (Shout out to Jonathan, our super knowledgeable waiter, for his informative recommendations!) I have no problem with mariscos in general, having used to getting street tacos version from LA taqueria and used to midwest Texmex in general. In short, I have had quite a bit iteration of mariscos around the US. However, this restaurant blew my mind. We had their filete rellenos, tacos, and their sushi, pura vida. Filete rellenos came with Jonathan's recommendation of green rice, salad, and mac and cheese. And oh my heaven was a meal that was. The green rice had a nice garlic and cilantro flavor to it, enough to taste but not overwhelming. The mac and cheese was nice and had bits of ham and pineapple mixed with it. The salad was not the usual pile of lettuce salad, they used mixed greens, topped with raisins, strawberries, croutons, cherry tomatoes with creamy balsamic dressing. Each component of the side dishes feels meticulously created with surprise touched. They could easily be their own dishes. The star of the show, of course, is the steamed bass (huge filet!), octopus and shrimp itself. They are all very tender and delicious (including the octopus!). It was so delicious that even my picky eater partook in demolishing the fish! I didn't get my order of fish tacos, they brought me shrimp tacos instead. However, I had no complaints. The taco shell is thick but not doughy, the shrimp was crispy yet not greasy, and it's loaded with toppings (pico de gallo, cabbage, mozzarella, and chipotle mayo). I didn't even bother asking where my fish tacos were! Lastly the sushi. Jonathan recommended pura vida. He was right. This was the first time I ever tried sushi outside of common sushi places (aka. Japanese restaurants/grocery stores). It didn't disappoint. The ratio between the filling and the rice was just right. The amount of cream cheese and veggies were also just right. It was great as is that we didn't bother to add more sauce to it. Everything about this restaurant felt like elevated street food. I really appreciated the finishing touches for every component of the food. It is very rare that restaurants put a lot of thought into side dishes, but this restaurant did (down to the use of pineapple chunks to complement a seafood platter!). Perfection! We also tried their cucumber agua fresca and it didn't disappoint. Jonathan also gave us a complementary sampling of a soup called Zombie. It was divine (and we will order the soup when we come back here later!). From decor to intermittent birthday shout out, the ambiance of this restaurant is just right. My family and I visited this restaurant two weeks ago it's beautiful inside it was a Sunday and even though it looked quite busy we got sat fairly quickly, I ordered the Camarones Ala Diablo sauce wasn't that good, the Chavela don't have much flavor either, our server took a bit to come check on us although the passing servers helped out and the food was brought by a food runner, my mom got the sushi aguachile combo the sushi was delicious, my step dad ordered some Oysters but was disappointed since they were I guess baby oysters. Our server took a while to get things we asked for but we were patient and understanding since it's quite a new restaurant. She took 20 minutes to come back with our change but over all we liked the food and ambiance so we decided to go again this past weekend for a bday, we got The same server this time our experience was bad and service went downhill completely and it wasn't that busy. Server took 15 minutes to Come Acknowledge us, three tables got Sat after us they're order was taken promptly and they received the food at a decent time, after she came to our table got our drink order dropped the drinks off she didn't come By until another 15 minutes we finally ordered and our food took 45 minutes in those 45 minutes the server didn't Bother coming to check on us to see if we needed another drink appetizers or anything which frustrating when the food started arriving I asked the food runner for our server she said she went on break; as a common courtesy letting us know would've been nice, she didn't come at all I got up and asked for boxes she didn't come to drop off the check we were very disappointed as we saw other servers were wonderful with they're tables attentive and present, maybe next time we can ask For a different server read more
