This is a cute little place with plenty of parking. I love trying new Mexican restaurants and found Don Lencho's on Yelp. We were pleasantly surprised with the clean comfortable feel of the restaurant. And our server was friendly and attentive. When it comes to Mexican Food, what people enjoy is very subjective. I have had Tex-Mex to California style Mexican food. My preference is New Mexico style. Because of this, I have not been completely satisfied with any Mexican Food that I've had in Arizona. Again, that's my preference. That said, I ordered Tampiquena plate which included a Chile Relleno and enchilada. I love Chile Rellenos when Anaheim chilies are used. Fortunately Don Lencho's used Anaheim type chiles which is what is grown in Hatch, NM. Both the Enchilada and Chile Relleno were pretty good. I like the sauce that they were smothered in. What I did not care much for was the cheese that both were stuffed with. It was tough and very chewy and not melted. To me, a different cheese blend would have made the dish much more appealing. I did steal my wife's taco, which I thought was pretty good. The presentation the plate was beautiful. I do love these mom and pop restaurants and encourage folks to try Don Lencho's and be your own judge. This is a pleasant place to enjoy a nice cozy meal with a friend or loved one. read more

A traditional margarita while barely waiting for combo taco platter to go was Excellent. Because my order was to go and I slipped in between the surge, the order was ready in no time. We drove to this area to attend the 2nd Annual Tamale Festival....or so we were led to believe! We showed up to a corner lot with some food trucks and a few other vendors. There was ONE tamale vendor with about 25 people in line. What a joke! Anyways we were pissed off but looking forward to being tamales! This restaurant came up in Yelp as nearby and we begrudgingly went there. However we got good service and good food with good sized portions so....maybe it was good that the "festival" was a bomb because Don Lencho's ended up "being the bomb"! Went in on a Saturday morning to have breakfast. My Chile Relleno tasted like it was frozen. Water coming out of the Chile when I cut into it. Wasn't fresh at all. My friend had a combination plate and the rice and beans they served her was so little was exactly 2 bites each. And don't ask for a side of sour cream cuz that's $4.00. The 2 of us ate my plate cost $18 with a Bloody Mary my cost $40 and my friend had her plate that was $20 and 2 drinks side of sour cream $73.00. Man I wish we wouldn't have waited SO long to try Don Lechos!! First off they are taking covid seriously and masks are required and seating is limited. They were super friendly while I placed my order over the phone and the food was ready quickly. We got a bean and cheese burrito, cause picky kids, #11 Chile verde plate which comes with rice and beans, 2 hard chicken tacos and a fried ice cream for dessert. Everything was $36 and super great prices!! The food was hot and fresh when we got home. There was sides of iceberg lettuce which was all fresh and green, pico de Gallo, sour cream and also salsas. The bean and cheese burrito was what you would expect. Just plain good! It was huge and enough for 2 kids, beany and cheesey lol. The Chile verde is what hubs was craving and said it was delicious. I taste tested and it was fab with a little spice served with flour tortillas. The hard chicken tacos had plenty of delicious chicken with lettuce and tomato with cheese and sides of sour cream, lettuce and salsa. Lastly, the fried ice cream. You can never go wrong with a delicious ball of cold vanilla ice cream fried to perfection. It was served with strawberry and a side of whip cream. Hit the spot for sure!! Overall, this is a nice authentic Mexican food place and I felt right at home there. The service was so friendly and welcoming. The food is absolutely delicious and fresh and the prices are great! Family owned and operated restaurant. On a Sunday afternoon, restaurant was moderately busy. Seevice was friendly. There are various specials throughout the week. Plenty of parking is available. Extensive menu. There was everything I could crave and much more. Complementary chips and salsa provided. My husband ordered the carne asada burrito. Burrito was packed with meat and avocado. There is the option to get the burrito wet / enchilada style, for an extra fee. A flavorful burrito. It did have a lot of tortilla folded into it. I opted for the carne asada fries. Fries were cooked with a crispness to the edges. They maintained this crispness until the end. Meat was overcooked; almost jerky like in parts. First visit to this restaurant today and we will definitely be back! My husband and I took advantage of the senior day special and ordered from the main menu. I chose 2 items, shredded beef enchilada with mole sauce and a cheese enchilada with green tomatillo sauce. Rice and beans were included with my entree. My hubby ordered a chicken enchilada and a shredded beef tostada. Meals came out quickly and the service was exceptional. Our server (whom we later found out was the daughter of the owner) was friendly, helpful and checked on us several times after delivering our plates. My meal was delicious! Shredded beef enchilada was full of succulent beef and the mole sauce was perfect. The tomatillo sauce was a perfect pairing for the cheese enchilada. Although I'm not a fan of veggies in my rice, the rice had great flavor. The beans were a bit thick but better thick than too thin. This may be our new favorite place! I really hate to shi* all over this restaurant since I know it's family owned and all, but given how much they charge for their food I expected a lot better quality. It's a nice establishment. Clean and homey. I can see it being nice to eat there. The waitress was working hard and she was friendly. I appreciate that she double checked my order to make sure it was right. When she was packing everything, I asked if she could pack two fountain drinks to go. Those were $5 a piece which is crazy considering the drink was about 80% ice. She probably put the equivalent of a 12 oz can of coke in each large drink. I asked for a couple of extra salsas, she packed a couple and they were pretty small. I guess I shouldn't complain too much because the salsa didn't taste great anyway. Ordered aqua chiles, a chicken burrito enchilada style, one carnitas taco and a taco salad. With the two drinks it totaled out to be like $82 which is pretty expensive. The aqua chiles were actually pretty good. Nice spice to it. Although the cup was halfway full, not much shrimp and loaded with cucumbers and avocado. It was also quite salty. The chicken inside the chicken burrito tasted and had the same texture as tuna from a can. The enchilada sauce was bland. The carnitas in the taco was really dry. Didn't come with any lime or onions. Just the corn tortilla and meat. Finally the taco salad looked good, but it tasted really bland and the ingredients they used tasted stale. I drove 20+ miles each way to try this place out but I won't be back. I really wanted to like this place, but it just missed on so many levels. read more

My 'Better' half and I recently dined here for a leisurely lunch. We were greeted immediately, and shown to a table. There we were met with chips and salsa. The chips were thin, crunchy (not greasy at all) and not outrageously sized, while both salsas were very thin (one was spicy, the other probably mild tomatillo) but tasty (especially together on a chip). We both ordered off the ala cart portion of the lunch menu and both ordered a couple of tacos. We both tried the carnitas tacos while she paired it with a chicken taco. I went with a shredded beef taco as my second one. All of them were delicious (especially the carnitas tacos). Our waiter was attentive (not overly, just right), and the prices were about average. Giving a great tip. I decided to our daughters today and oh boy were we disappointed. My daughter did not like her menudo so I let the waitress know. She would not let my daughter change her plate for something els and was adamant that we would get charged for the menudo regardless. Let me tell you, I was stunned. At any other restaurant they allow it. Our drinks came but she didn't pick up the empty glasses. we asked for more tortilla chips. Never came. So I give a one star. To the owners. You lost great customers over not taking my daughters menudo back. Husbands meals are over sixty dollars. The past two dine in time were almost $300.00. Enjoy your menudo. Rediscovered this place after many years. It still does not disappoint! Staff is friendly, food is great, margaritas are tasty and plentiful. My lady had the chicken mini chimi's and I had the Costa Brava spicy seafood soup (emphasis on spicy). Food was served piping hot and it was good good good! Our group of 9 formed around 11:30 for lunch. Most of the guys ordered burritos but I ordered the Carnitas plate with rice and beans and your choice of flour or corn tortillas. This place is sort of on an island out in the middle of Peoria, a little joint right off 84th Ave and Peoria. The sign says established in 1999 and I would guess that was the last time any updates were made to the building; it's traditionally decorated but definitely outdated. What I will say is that it's clean. The staff wear masks throughout service and I noticed they do clean well in between tables. What's a little weird to me is their mini bar, covered in about 7 feet of stacked ice? I saw oysters on the menu, so I'm not sure if that's the intent? It wasn't super appetizing. The chips crunched w the texture of yesterday, but the salsa (hot and verde) were pretty good. I ordered the 2 item combo w a beef taco and a beef tostada, served w a side of rice and beans. When it arrived the shredded cheese was still stacked cold on top of everything (unmelted) but I do love some cheese so I was okay w that. The food was decent...it wasn't great, but I definitely wouldn't say it was bad. Service was prompt, however it definitely lacked the "smile" you might expect in your dining experience. I love this place! Best shrimp cocktail around. They serve it in a goblet. I find their Mexican food to be authentic. Their service is both friendly and personable. It feels as if you are eating in someone's home or amongst friends. I ate and craved their shrimp cocktail all throughout my pregnancy and now bring my son there with me to eat their kid's meals or share my shrimp cocktail.
