Small hole in the wall place. Wanted to try it out before I move out of the area and I'm pretty bummed I'm trying it before I leave so soon. Was visiting Newport Beach and in the mood for some authentic 7 Mares soup, googled and found this place. The soup was delicious, you can taste the freshness, perfectly seasoned, it really hit the spot. The service was good, our waitress checked on us often and made sure we were good. I would have given them five stars, but was sort of disappointed on there alcoholic drink options. The margaritas are canned, and aside from that all there other alcohol options is beer. I opted for the Jamaica and it was super sweet, the horchata was also over sweetened. I'm still coming back, would like to try the shrimp cocktail. read more

i went today 7/15/2022 about 4pm had shrimp ceviche, they throw the lemon with seed, thats a disappointing, didn't say nothing, but got a familiar corona beer, and server offer a chill glass, that was nice, drink a beer and on the second i lift the glass and the bottom part came of, just broke, beer spilled all over table, on my clothes, my cell phone floor, shirt, and told the server, she kind of blame me for it and didn't even apologize, and they had a nerve to charge me for the beer, that is just ridiculous, charge me for a beer that end up on me and allover table and floor etc, they need to be trained to do better job. if rhis would of happen on a real restaurant not only they wouldn't have charged you for the beer, but the whole bill. also they still have a surcharge, thats just something else. of course i left $0 tip, normally i always leave 20+% tip, but in this case 0% and a little note to get tip from boss. read more

Horrible!!! I order a shrimp ceviche tostada had two bites when I saw that the shrimp wasn't clean properly it had poop I returned it ask for something else. Everyone else got service but me. Was excited to try this place looks great online. Was never greeted when I walked in. Had to ask customers how do I order Employees clearly saw me and decided to never walk up to ask for a drink or food order for over 10 minutes. I walked up to cashier and she was oblivious on her cell phone. Just walked out won't be back did not feel welcomed what so ever! Literally felt as if they didn't want to serve me because of being white. I saw the chef talk to the women cashier while looking at me in the back and she never came up to give any service. While I sat there I noticed a large stack of dirty dishes right behind the bar that looked like they haven't been washed in a while!. Looked super unsanitary and under staffed! As far as the food goes - they never disappoint But if you are a white girl, not all the servers are so friendly, in fact, they can be downright RUDE. We wanted to go to Mariscos Hector on Main Street but heard it's always packed so we came to this one. Supposedly all three mariscos hector are owned by the same person but this one was way below my expectations. Food wasn't great but wasn't terrible, the 'michelada' for this place was really only Clamato & your choice of beer (not what a michelada consists of), food was overpriced (paid $8.50 for one tostada that was smaller than a small plate with a tostada the size of my palm) I wouldn't recommend coming here if you're looking for the whole live band, top of their game restaurant read more

I've been coming to Hector's Mariscos for over a year now and this is the best spot to get a Shrimp tostada (ceviche). Today I brought my girlfriend and husband for a early afternoon lunch. For $6.50 we each ordered a tostada with a mountain of shrimp marinated in lime juice. It also came with 3 to 4 slices of avocado on top (you can also order fish or a combination of the two if you're not down with the shrimp mountain). I usually squeeze more lime juice and cover it with tapatio sauce - also accompany it with an ice cold beer and I'm in heaven. The tostada can get soggy from all the lime juice so I like to use the chips to help scoop up the big chunky pieces of shrimp. My girlfriend loved it and also liked how they bring out an ice cold glass mug with a salt rim and lime for the beer. My husband also ordered a side of 3 chicken tacquitos in case the tostada didn't fill him up. I've always ordered the tostada and never tried anything else so I was curious to see how the tacquitos would be. They arrived steaming hot with sour cream, shredded lettuce and cheese. He said they were good, nothing out-of-this-world but worth the $5.25. The place was also pretty busy and Judy (the server) is also very nice and attentive. She says the owner is an older woman who is also the cook and is always coming up with different specials - like menudo and tamales throughout the year. They also have a jukebox and an array of beers. Today there were quite a few guys sitting at the bar eating and watching the soccer game on tv with families sitting at the larger tables enjoying their lunch. The place may not be the best in terms of atmosphere and location. So, I will exclude these factors from my review. I tried several things: Chips and Salsa, Ceviche, and Shrimp Burrito. For the price, it is among the best Ceviche I have ever tasted. I can't even smell or taste the fishiness. The shrimp burrito is above average. It has more than average amount of shrimp in the burrito. The taste is pretty good but not memorable. The salsa (whatever the red one is) is good. However, if you mix it with the habanero salsa, it turns into this awesome-fest. read more

Fantastically Authentic Mariscos : aka Seafood; the way seafood, was meant to be eaten. IMHO. Everything on the menu exudes love. A jukebox plays some classic Mexican, Spanish Music. I love the sound of Mariachis. I especially love Mariachis while drinking ice cold beer and eating , perfectly prepared Mexican delicacies. Call me Silly;) Each Tortilla is handmade and made to order! Bait and switch with pricing. FYI tacos are prices at 1.69 but if you specifically ask for that price or they will charge you $2.75 per.... nowhere on menu shows 2.75 tacos. Unfortunately for my experience today @ Hectors was so disappointing, to think my raza has come so far in amazing Mexican food this place was not good too say the least. The only reason I'm leaving a negative comment is because when I arrived back to my shift I i realized I was over charged and my order was wrong. Wee are a construction crew on a 30min break an got a few tacos to go! 45 minutes later and two sets of chilaqules that were not ordered but double charged for were included. Quesadilla is FILLED to the brim w/ meat and cheese. Their tacos are traditional style (corn tortilla, great meat, onions, cillantro). Burritos are reasonably priced and filling. They always give customers free chips and salsa. There is a variety of mexican beers to choose from. There usually is spanish tv or mariachi music playing, adding to the authentic feel. read more

What caught my eye about this place is they have an open/close sign that has both English and Chinese. I went in during their M-F 10am to 3pm $1.00 taco specials. I ordered 4 chicken tacos and was promptly served. The tacos were the typical soft tacos with tortillas about the diameter of a softball. The tortillas were warm, which was very nice. The chicken was shredded and had cilantros and diced onions. The small bowl of red salsa that was also brought out was slightly chilled to the touch. These were good tacos and I would go back to Mariscos Hector. The takeout menu I brought home shows that they specialize in Sinoloan style seafood rather than tacos though.
