My friend recommended me this place saying they have good ceviche. I ordered through Grubhub and was able to pick up right away. We ordered two kinds of ceviche and some tacos. Everything was well packaged and clean. The order also comes with some really tasty fresh tortilla chips. The ceviche we ordered were De Aguachile and Tostada Mixta Trio of Ceviche. The seafood tasted fresh and full of flavorful. The tacos were great too! They have a lot of different kind of salsa. We took our meal to eat at the beach and had a very relax social distancing dinner. I'm surprise that this place doesn't have more reviews since their food were really good. I definitely would come back again and support this local small business!

    Machete, basically a footlong taco
    hugh f.

Went here for the first time in ages. Saw a table get a couple machetes and just looked at the server and asked WTF is that? Asked what was in it and he told me whatever you want, but usually it's a protein w lettuce, cheese and salsa. I added beans. With some pickled red onions and some avocado this woulda been legendary. Can split this 4 ways as an app!!' I strained to eat half. Damn good dish

Might be my favorite place for tacos! I'm super picky but this place hits! Their Mulitas are good too!!

Had their mixed ceviche, tastes great and came with lots of different spices. Staff was nice and I liked the outdoor seating.

Who wants hair in there salsa? ... this is just plain gross.

Picture sums up my experience. Also the food is too pricey. My quesadilla was $10 and they forgot my rice and beans.. not worth it. Want hair in your salsa? This is the place.

This is a little hidden gem that we found one day just driving by. Their food is absolutely amazing and they get extremely crowded. I love that a lot of locals come here and they go above and beyond to provide you with an excellent service. There's a few pics of some of the items that we got and we absolutely enjoyed them. I go here regularly now and highly recommend this place to everyone.

"consome de res" which is definitely not consome de res.

food was okay. but that's about it. placed an order online through their own website. 2 birria tacos, a cabesa taco, and a consome de res. figured i could dip my birria tacos in the consome and then eat the consome tomorrow for lunch. get to the restaurant a few minutes after the time it said the order would be ready. despite the restaurant having confirmed my order, the ticket was still attached to the register with 3 or 4 others. the lady at the register had an "uh oh" face and said they were finishing it up and it would be 5 more minutes. then she told me they didn't have birria. i opted for carnitas instead, and despite the price difference (birria having been a few dollars more expensive) there was no refund of the difference. whatever, it's not that big of a deal. what was a big deal is the 5 minutes came and went. then 10. then 15. 33 minutes later, as i was about to ask to just cancel my order and refund me, my food was finally ready. i get home and start to eat. the tacos were relatively okay. not bad, not great. just whatever. however, the consome de res was... definitely not consome de res. it appeared (and tasted) like they boiled some water and then quickly tossed in some boned with a little bit of chewy beef still on them, some carrots, some lettuce, some cilantro, some potatoes, a small piece of corn on the cob, and some oil. the broth literally tasted like water and had no flavor at all. the meat that was on the bone was chewy and sparse. the corn was still mostly raw and tough. whatever this was had obviously been thrown together super quick and probably what ended up taking 33 minutes. if you want to go here, expect your order to be wrong, missing stuff, or not made.

From the valet to the nice waiting area and the seafood displayed over ice when you walk in, everything had a very upscale feel. Once seated, the bread and butter started us off right. We ordered a few cocktails and every one was really good. For food, we went IN on the seafood. We got the chilled shellfish platter, calamari, seafood pasta, sea bass, and a seafood soup that was probably one of my favorites. Everything was fresh, flavorful, and prepared really well. The chilled platter especially was such a nice presentation with the oysters, shrimp, lobster, mussels and scallops. The seafood pasta was also so good. Rich without overpowering the seafood, and the shrimp were huge. Definitely on the pricier side, but this is one of those places where the food, atmosphere, and overall experience matched the occasion. Perfect way to celebrate surviving tax season. 9.5/10

I wish they included pricing on their posts to allow us to budget better before being on site. They are very much on the pricier side but for the most part that is justifiable with what you get. I picked up some spot prawns at $45/lb, 4 pieces ran me about $25 but those were so fresh I would get them again. I also picked up scallops. I did expect them to be fresh but they were completely frozen so I am not sure when they harvested them and the scallops themselves were a tad on the smaller side, at about $33 for a 17oz bag that seemed a bit steep. Most of their fish range from $32-35 per pound and their Mexican white shrimp were $25/lb. I do very much plan to come back but this would not be a frequent stop for me

Also very much chatting with each other and even when making eye contact with servers for assistance was ignored. Food wise order the dozen oyster chef choice, grill cheese, chowder fries, ahi and lobster taco Dozen oyster there were 3 types all on the brinier side with the final ones more brinier than others and accompany with ginger 2 types of chili sauce and pickle red onion Chowder fries a bit on the salty side with some bites but had a nice chowder and fries ratio With little heat from the Fresno chili that were garnished Tacos were served with in a blue corn tortilla, for $6 each on the smaller side like a street taco and flavors wise pretty basic, didn't stand out very much Grill cheese with 4 pieces very buttery toast nice crunch and gooey melty cheeses Overall pretty decent food but wasn't impress with the service and though short handed, there wasn't a sense of urgency to assist, minimal acknowledgment, and wasn't checked back on after food was dropped off as others were being asked around us Also noticed in their food kitchen window as dishes were waiting to be picked up there was a plate of burger and fries and someone from the kitchen twice with barehand taking bunches of fries from a already prepare plate to be delivered. Seemed very odd. Unsure if would return to this establishment.

Brought a friend and her family here to celebrate a milestone birthday on a Saturday afternoon…read more We were really hoping to sit in the patio, or at least near it but, unfortunately we were sat at a booth alongside the interior wall. Totally understandable as it's peak summer, and a weekend, they get busy. The restaurant was hot and humid. Now I'm sure they have AC, and even with all the windows and patio doors being open, they really should have opted to use the AC. The entire dining experience was uncomfortable. We ate our meal literally sweating. Even our server was sweating lol All our drinks went room temp in a matter of 10 minutes, we had to repeatedly ask for glasses of ice from the bar just to try and mitigate our body temperatures somehow. Also, the booth itself was incredibly tacky. And I don't mean visually tacky, I mean the texture. The feeling of plastic when it gets really old and it feels sticky to the touch, that tacky. You couldn't slide in or out of that booth if your life depended on it. And again, considering how humid and hot the interior was, it only made it worse. The lighting was also so dim that it gave the vibes of being sat in the corner of a musky Denny's diner lol. Halfway through our meal they turned the lights off for dinner service (I get it, to set the mood) but it made the table so dark we had to ask them to turn them back on so we could see the food on our plates. It wasn't that the entire restaurant was dim, it's certain tables (and sadly ours was definitely one of them) We had a party of 6, and one person got their meal well before the rest of the table. We of course insisted she begin eating, which she did, and our remaining meals came out as soon as she was done with hers. The waiter removed her plate as he set down everyone else's lol. The food was good, but, again with how uncomfortable the environment was, it was hard to enjoy. The restaurant was also fairly empty throughout our meal. We got there before 5 so that awkward "linner" time frame. Even so, we had to flag down our waiter for another round of drinks, water, etc. The Shorebird absolutely has stunning views, and that's what they're known for. Their food is solid, mist dishes fairly justifies the high price point. This visit was just not their best. Overall service and ambiance, fell extremely flat. I set the bar high for my guests, as they traveled in from out of town and I raved about my experience from a few months back. Granted, I was sat at the patio, overlooking the beautiful view, and the service was impeccable. With all the stellar dining options in Newport, unless you find yourself at a table on the balcony, I don't think Shorebird is the obvious choice. You'll end up spending the money regardless so you may as well look for a spot that is guaranteed to meet the expectations of the price point without having to be dependent on a view.

Luke's Lobster in Balboa was another birthday treat from the wife, and she wanted to take me here…read morebecause she knows I love lobster and crab rolls, or really just lobster and crab in general. Now here's the thing, I've never really had a great lobster roll. It's always been so overpriced for the lack of flavor and just never really worth it. Luke's was the first and truly one of the best places I've had a lobster roll, and honestly it was kinda shocking. We ended up getting the flight, which came with a crab roll, a shrimp roll, and a lobster roll, and all three were phenomenal. But what completely shocked me was that the shrimp roll was a hundred percent the best of the bunch. The butter it came with, that pure savory sweet ocean saltiness, the bread, the butteriness of it, I wish I had ten of them. I could have sat there and eaten all of them right then and there. The shrimp roll was number one for sure, which really surprised me, but it was that good. The lobster roll was a solid second. Great amount of lobster too, and I mean this isn't the kind of place that gives you two or three sad little pieces, they pack a whole handful of lobster in there, which I really appreciated. If you're paying a pretty penny for it, at least they came through with a generous amount. The crab roll though, that one completely fell short. I wasn't too bummed since I was way more locked in on the lobster, but the crab just wasn't there. I don't know if the crab itself just didn't have the flavor this catch around, but it tasted like watered down salt with a little bit of butter. So yeah, that one was not great. Lobster and shrimp though, wonderful. The clam chowder was also really good. I added a little pepper just to give it an extra kick and a little bite, and it was great. The staff were so sweet too, super welcoming and helpful, especially since it was our first time and we had no clue what to get. We hit them with a bunch of questions just to get their insight and hear what their favorites were, and they were awesome about it, really welcoming and just genuinely sweet and helpful. This is definitely one I'd love to go back to, and I highly recommend it to anybody looking for a good lobster roll. Truly a good place in my opinion.

The spicy rigatoni could've been saucier, but it also could've dried out on the drive home. It had great heat and flavor and I appreciated that the sauce wasn't too thin. The prime rib dip with the au jus was an absolute STAR, super thin slices of juicy meat, buttery bun, and savory au jus on the side (not watery at ALL). Crispy fries were a great accompaniment, didn't even need ketchup. Lastly, the warm butter cake was really tasty! I enjoyed the berry sauce and the buttery crumb of the cake. Mastro's is still king, but Nick's is a more than satisfactory runner up. Overall, would definitely come back to try out the rest of the menu.
