Absolutely delicious! My boyfriend and I tried La Costa last night and were delighted with how wonderful it was from the amazing food to the excellent service. Delicious perfectly seasoned food, huge portions, attentive and friendly service service and currently BYOB (Garden Gourmet is right next door for booze). We had the Empanadas de Camarón (shrimp empanadas), Filete Perla (steamed fish stuffed with shrimp, octopus and crab) and Molcajete Mar y Tera (steak, chorizo and shrimp in spicy red sauce). This is such a yummy seafood spot ! We walked in around 7:30 pm and asked for a table for 3 and were told it would be a 20 min wait . We didn't mind as the restaurant itself takes no reservations so there's always a chance that there will be a wait time. Once seated we took a look at the drink menu , well we took turns as they only have 1 drink menu per table. I was surprised that the restaurant didn't have a scan code for the entire menu but was still using its original plastic menus from pre covid . For drinks we had the corona margarita and the Spanish sangrias . These drinks are huge and affordable and they don't skimp on the alcohol . The sangria was twice the size of my margarita ! For appetizers they give a complimentary ceviche to every table and we also ordered the shrimp empanadas. For an entree 2 of us had the pina a la costa which is basically a half pineapple stuffed with mussels , octopus, shrimp , oysters , crab meat, prawns and crab legs ! Absolutely amazing food! I ordered 3 dishes to go for a little home party. The portions are huge! It will be enough for 6 persons to eat. Pina Rellena is my new favorite Mexican dish. It is big pineapple filled up with shrimps, scallops, pieces of octopus and white creamy yummy sauce. Plus you get french fries, rice, salad on side. Bingo! Our first time dining here was last night and it is the neighborhoods best kept secret. It was a Wednesday and the restaurant was about 1/4 full. They had the big front windows open and Spanish music videos playing at the appropriate volume level. It is no longer BYOB so we ordered a beer and a vodka drink that came in this massive mug. The complimentary chips, ceviche and sauces (that are SO spicy) was a nice touch. We ordered the shrimp empanadas to share, which were fantastic. I ordered the Pina Rellena but Nayarit style and it was so delicious and my boyfriend had the Filete a la Crema. Both our dishes has so much fish, that was fresh and tender. The food portions are insanely huge so I would recommend sharing an entree if you can. We will for sure be back soon--the service, the food, and the atmosphere were all on point read more

I have never been a fan of seafood until I tried this place! Everything I've tried there tastes amazing and is always so fresh! My favorite without the doubt is the ceviche, momias and empanadas de camarón are a must. Not only is the food amazing but the service is one of the best I've had at a restaurant. We got the male bearded server Poly and he was beyond amazing, on top of things, very attentive and friendly, took a couple of his recommendations very knowledgeable. This place is legit. I'll take this over El Barco from now on. Also, it's BYOB with a liquor store next door so it's super convenient. They can bring you a bucket of ice for your beers/tequila. Every table gets salsa served with tostada shells and fish ceviche. Beware of the orange habanero salsa. Muy caliente!!! Food is great. Loved the empanadas and the sauce it came with. Living in the area, it's no secret we have several Mexican seafood options just along Ashland between Divsion and Chicago. To start, their complimentary salsas were very flavorful and spicy (with a purpose!). Their drinks were on point, with none of the overly salty/sour mixes for your margarita. I was so overwhelmed when my plate arrived that I forgot to snap a pic. I ordered shrimp "fajita" style (with onions and peppers). This comes with rice, salad (nice fresh cucumbers, tomatoes, and cabbage), garlic bread, AND french fries. You won't believe it until you see it with your own eyes. My boyfriend ordered a similar dish to mine but his was covered in cheese! We were not drinking this night but I noticed at others' tables that there were some delicious looking (once again, very large) bloody mary or michelada type drinks with beers dumped upside down into them - yum. Tasty, fresh food that I'm already craving after last night's dinner. We enjoyed some small plates and tried a few different items including Shrimp Empanadas, Fish Tacos, Shrimp tacos and a heaping serving of delicious guacamole. The guac was some of the best we've ever had, it was so creamy and full of flavor. The service was great and the vibe was friendly, casual. Stoped by for dinner with family and the chips they offered with the appetizer with the fish where stale no good . I asked the waitress to switch them she did and i got the same stale chips. called the water and she stated they are new i said taste them and she did and agreed stale and switched them . As receiving my order my food did not taste good as if the juice was watered down the shrimp was no cleaned properly i got some dirt taste in my mouth and my experience was just awful. My plate alone cost me 30 dollars and not worth it . The other locations is 10x better i wont come back . Im guessing they have a new cook but man not what I expected. read more

We came here for Father's Day and I expected to wait due to that they don't take reservations, no problem. They told me is would be an hour to 40 minute wait and we had been waiting already 2 hours for them to tell us that they gave our table away and it would be an extra 25 minutes. They took my name and my phone number down, and I checked up every 30 minutes to make sure and their severs and mangers still made that error. After being seated, our server came TWICE to check up on us, first to order our food and last to tell us that their was no stake left for my guest go are allergic to seafood, and we're looking forward to the steak, we had asked what else can they eat and said they had steak but not the way they wanted it which they could have accommodated for after already messing up our seating. Overall a horrible experience, my food was very burnt as well. I love this restaurant it at this specific location I don't recommend. THIS place is the worst of all of the seafood restaurants in the Chicago area. Me and my family came in this Sunday to try it out!!! I had order the langostinos and told my Server if it was possible if you guys can make it spicy she said yes with a BAD attitude!!! It wasn't spicy at all and service was TERRIBLE too we had ask for a glass of water she took her time i got up to use the bathroom and I seen her in the corner talking to another table l'm guessing a group of friends it wasn't even busy people!!! When my husband and I drove by this restaurant a few weeks ago and I was immediately impressed with the concept of a Mexican seafood restaurant. Several weeks later, we gave it a try. Got there around 7, dinner time, but place was fairly empty which made me a little nervous at first. We took our seats and were served salsas, ceviche with tortilla chips. Wished the chips were were warm, but the ceviche sure was tasty. We asked for a second serving, and they graciously obliged. I ordered the shrimp in this beautiful Nayarit red sauce, with rice, fries and garlic bread! Delicious! My husband had the carne asada. The beef was tasty and tender! Serving size large enough to bag up for next day lunch. Only complaints, cold chips, and menu options were a little bit on the pricey side. The server was gracious, warm and wore a pleasant smile. Probably because he had never seen us before and wanted to make a good impression. That he did! Would I return? Perhaps. But with so many choices for Mexican food north on Ashland, I think they'd do well to offer incentives for folks to just walk.
