I would always pass by, look at the restaurant, and say to myself, "That place looks like its good!" One day I decided to try it out! On my first visit, I walked in during lunch time, and there was only Mexican men sitting down eating. I automatically knew, my prediction about the place was correct! I'm not saying Mexican men are experts on all food, but to see paisa men in a Mariscos restaurant, is a good indicator the grub is good! As a result of my observation I was able to confidently sit down and order. I ordered, Filete al mojo de ajo, rice and beans, a shrimp taco, and a Jamaica to wash it down. The food was DELICIOUS! I became a fan of Sol y Mar, and now I introduce as many people as possible to the restaurant. Heres a list and rating of what I have tried. 1. Filete al mojo de ajo: Excellent! 2. This has become a fast favorite for us. The best Mexican seafood place we have been to in a long time. Service is fantastic - fast, friendly and professional, prices are unbeatable, and the food itself tastes homemade, fresh, and has lots of flavor. They aren't stingy with their shrimp cocktails and they bring lime, salsa and chips right when you get seated (I love me some lime!). Their best deal is the grilled order for two, which is $35 dollars. You get 6 coronitas, a selection of grilled proteins (shrimp done a few ways, steak, chicken, chorizo, octopus and fish) as well as grilled plaintains, potatoes, green onions and queso fundido. Eh. Nothing special about their food, maybe it was because I ordered the food to go that my shrimp cocktail and ceviche was literally full of vegetables and hardly any meat! Im not from Whittier but found this place on yelp and decided to try it out. The food is OK. The pictures look so good but the taste isn't that great. I ordered the mojarra a la díabla which was good but lacked salt. What I was really disappointed with was the aguachiles rojos. They literally tasted like they were just bathed in lemon juice and added some spicy salsa. I don't know what sauce they use but it isn't good. The service was ok as well. Love this spot for ceviche! I have been coming here for abt 2 years and cant get enough! The waitresses are always quick with getting your order placed and getting your food to you. No no no. let down. small parking area, exremley slow and forgetful service. The utensils didnt look clean. I ordered a dz oysters, not the best. The botana was not spicy. Also ordered the fajita beef, chicken, and fish. Not worth it! No flavor and the meats dried out. The bill was around $150 including drinks. I wont come back. read more

I read all the reviews about the Micheladas, so I wanted to see what it was all the fuss about. I ordered a Modelo Michi, It was good, not the best. I had fish tacos, that were good. The Shrimp cocktail could have been better, the juice was not the best. The rice was fluffy and good. Overall it was alright. When we got the bill, it did not include the prices. I started with a michelada and I stopped half way because the flavor they have it was not up to my standards. I'm from Mazatlan Sinaloa and every time I eat mariscos I compare to the ones I grew up eating. I refuse to have it any other way. I order a mariscoco and the plate had literally 6 shrimps and a little bit of octopus so pretty much it was all soup. I hate spending money on food I don't like. Awesome seafood. My brother-in-law turned us to this "spot". We started off with a couple of Micheladas (can't say enough about them, they are delish). As soon as you take a zip you are done...... you just want to kill it! And get another. The "Mojarra frita" (fried Talapia) is good, the campechana cocktail (mixed seafood cocktail) , anyway, anything in the menue is awesome. We came in on a Sunday afternoon with a party of 4 and we were seated right away. To begin our lunch, we ordered micheladas that were perfectly spicy and delicious. When it came time to eat, it was hard to chose with all the great looking options. We decided to start with the guacamole with shrimp and it tasted awesome with chips. Then she began to clean tables and someone asked for lines and she went straight to it without washing her hands or using gloves.
