Love Love this place! When my family and I want to celebrate something special (pay day I suppose), we always decide on Uruapan. Quality food and the Micheladas are A.M.A.Z.I.N.G.! I recommend the following: Camarones Al Mojo de Ajo Cielo, Mar y Tierra Fajitas Oysters with Ceviche on top Aguachiles de Camaron (verde) The only reason I didn't give it a 5 Star is because service isn't out of this world. They are good but it can take a while to get your order taken. The food was amazing. Thanks for satisfying my craving for seafood cocktail. It was delicious and everything. The juice had the right texture and taste to it. And you can add as much ketchup to your discretion. The food portion are pretty well sized. Oh! And the lunch specials are pretty nice :). As for the service, they probably got intimidated by a group of people. The younger cashier was a bit derpy because we paid in separate cards and I made her life easier by physically coordinating the payment but she wanted us to do more complicated stuff. Probably to get more tip or she was lazy (the computer could do it for her). Other than the cashier situation, it was good overall. Our waiter was really well coordinated so props. Aside from that, will come again.. Just hope that the manager or someone more capable can handle the payments next time. read more

I came here with my family a couple months ago. I was a bit worried before arriving because I eat a plant based/vegan diet and I was going to a mariscos restaurant. Going to none vegan restaurants, I often get weird looks, wrong orders and/or rude comments when I ask for adjustments to my meals to veganize them. Fortunately, that wasn't the case here. Everyone there was very attentive and the lady who took my order was very helpful once I explained my situation. I got a veggie burrito and loved it. Doesn't look like much from the outside, but inside this place is jumpin'. We stopped in on a Sunday for late breakfast/early lunch and were pleasantly surprised by the extensive menu, great décor and good service. I highly recommend the stuffed clams (as an appetizer or meal) and the shrimp in Chipotle sauce (a little spicy, but perfect for this Gringo). Man has this place gone down hill. This used to be my go to spot when I was hungover, but after giving it another shot last night I'm officially done! First off the place smells horrible when you walk in ( I should have turned right around and walked back out smh) . I ordered the filete zarandeado and the fish didn't even have one grill mark on it. Looked like they poured sauce on it and threw it in the microwave. My girlfriend and I order the same and the fish looked the same on both plates. Excellent service wait staff is very friendly and attentive. Went on a Saturday morning around 11 ordered the Menudo with extra hominy Less meat and they obliged me. I was pleasantly surprised to get what I wanted. The taste of the broth was authentic you can taste the hours of simmering I got all the condiments and tortillas of course everything was hot and fresh. I ordered the large it was two servings in one so I took leftovers. Its been years since I've been there haven't tried the rest of the food but I was happy with the menudo the cinnamon coffee. Husband and I came here for the first time during lunch hours. Not many people. Waitress was nice and helpful, however order was wrong. The campechana had more vegetables than a mixture of shrimp, octopus, abalone, etc. They are definitely not following guidelines to protect staff and guest. My daughters order always gets messed up because of the issue of how loud music is. In search of fresh oysters, I decided to give this place another chance. Very happy with my decision! The oysters were so fresh, full of flavor, and definitely hit the spot. I ordered half a dozen prepared with shirimp ceviche, but the star ingredient was a special hot sauce they serve them with that just brings everything together with every slurp of these babies. I also ordered a campechana cocktel and it was also really good but a little big, next time I'd order the medium instead of the large! The one thing I don't like about this place is that it's easy to spend a RIDICULOUS amount of money if you come in a group. Sure a bucket of beer sounds nice and tasty, but soon you just can't stop and before you know it, your group has gone through EIGHT buckets of beer!! Hands down the best ceviche I've had in a restaurant. Everytime we have a party we make sure to order a chaffing dish of it and we never have any left. There are plenty of other good dishes that are served there but I can't remember them at the moment (see note about buckets of beer). One thing that was a turn off was the obnoxiously LOUD music. I mean stupid loud. There was a whole 10 piece banda playing and we had to practically shout to the people sitting on the other side of the table. The fish tacos are some of the best I have had. The bar seemed adequate. Live (Norteño music ??? that polka-sounding-shit-with-a-squeeze-box) bands quite often play here on a small stage and i here i gets pretty crowded. Came here on a whim because it was unbearably hot this past weekend and I wanted me a Michelada. The bf and I found Mariscos Uruapan with the help of Yelp and headed over. Mariscos Uruapan looks really small from the outside, but once we got inside the place felt cavernous and it was filled with people at 3pm on a Sunday. We ordered 1/2 dozen oysters on the half shell, two Michelada, and a Chimichanga plate. I was pleasently surprised with the Chimichanga. We had ordered the beef Chimichanga and it was juicy and sweet on the inside. Beef juice came out when I bit into it. The outside of the Chimichanga was deliciously crisp and fried to perfection. The rice and beans that came with the plate were flavorful - more so than any other Mexican place I have been to. I really enjoyed slurping down my Michelada, the only negative is that I was drinking more tomato and clam cocktail at the end than beer. The drinks at the bar look really interesting and I want to come back and try their Happy Hour. The 1/2 dozen oysters on a half shell are a reasonable price. They came out cleaner than I thought they would, as a lot of reasonably priced oysters aren't cleaned well by the restaurant. I enjoyed slurping them down with tons of hot sauce and lime. They weren't as cold as I wanted them to be, but I suppose I hadn't left them sitting on the ice for too long. I actually enjoyed the live singers and music. It was a bit hard to talk over the live entertainment, but I think that's what makes Maricos Uruapan unique. Their menu has such a large selection of dishes, and a very very strong selection of seafood. Seafood prices are reasonable considering market value has gone up recently. Don't be afraid to try this place! You won't regret it =) read more

I've been here plenty of times. Always for breakfast. They do have A Few Good Deals For Breakfast During THE week. But the problem is the service. They usually have 1 server. I sat here today with 12 tables occupied to serve and one table alone was a party of 14! Why would you have 1 server on board! This poor guy is running around like a chicken with out a head. It took us 45 mins to get our food and I never got a refill on water. I had to chase this man down. And who wants a waiter with sweat rolling down his face to serve you food. Ugh. Nasty. To the owner, it's always crowded here in the mornings. You should make sure you always have 2 or more servers or be ready for some harsh reviews and some unsatisfied customers. Food was good. Came here on a Friday night. The place was quite busy, which s a good thing, but the staff might have been a little overwhelmed. We ordered a queso fundido to start, and it didn't arrive until we were on our second basket of chips. (Nice heads up that they noticed we were out, but they didn't seem to see our empty glasses). The chips, by the way, were fine. Nothing to write home about, kind of standard issue with OK salsa, but obviously we managed to wolf them down. Anyway, I'm afraid the fundido must have been sitting for a while, because instead of a thick dip it was a lump of congealed cheese floating in whey, and our entrees came out two minutes later. Normally, I hate this, but we were starvin, Marvin, so we just plunged in . The flavor of the queso was great, if the consistency was not, and the filete urupan ordered was moist, tender and flavorful. Really liked the beans and the homemade corn tortillas are top notch. The rice had corn kernels in it, which was odd but not bad, and BF's burrito was huge and absolutely stuffed with shrimp in a really tasty garlic sauce. Unfortunately, we were not able to finish before the music/torture began. Not a fan of mariachi bands anyway, but this was even more annoying than the groups that stand at your table and play while you're trying to eat. You can at least get those guys to go away. This cacaphony took place on a stage and was so loud that BF's eardrums actually hurt and we had to drive over to the Jack in the Box so he could use the restroom becasue he couldn't take the noise any longer. (OK, he also got a milkshake - what a fatty)! Anyway, the food is good but I would recommend going 1) when they're not so busy and 2) way before the "entertainment" begins. read more

I visited this restaurant for the first time today during lunch. I have worked in this area for over four years and a coworker and I finally decided to give it a try. The reason I never went before is that the restaurant is in a strip mall and it just didn't appeal to me. But, I decided to look past the exterior and give the place a chance. When we walked in, the place was pretty full--this is a good sign. We were seated immediately in a booth--also a good sign. This was the last of what I consider prompt or even good service. My coworker and I sat there for about 10 minutes before our drink order was taken and we were offered chips. Once we received these, we didn't have our food order taken for about 20 minutes. It was very strange because it seemed like this was the norm here. No one else in the restaurant looked impatient, even though I could see they were waiting for service as well. When our order was taken, I asked for more chips (we ate them all while waiting around!) Our server passed by us several times delivering chips to others, while we sat and started on. When we finally recieved our food, the salmon was overcooked, the vegetables mushy, and the baked potato loaded with sour cream. I am positive the fish and veggies were frozen and not fresh. This was just my coworker's plate. I ordered the taco and two taquitos lunch special. It was okay. Nothing special and my taco was loaded with sour cream and I also had a dallop of sour cream on my plate. They must love sour cream here. Overall, the service is lousy and the food is "meh" at best. The ambiance is also not to my liking. If you love lots of TVs with soccer on everyone, then this is your place. read more

Hay chihuahua! I was barking like a chihuahua dog that had way too much hot sauce, and the could not stop eating! I'll try to keep this nice and short, since I am a cooling my mouth down with a cold beer still after a very spicy lunch, and beer affects my judgement. New coworker takes me here, one of her hidden gems of food, as we find out we are both foodies. The place is loud and has a strong "local only" vibe from the restaurant patrons, but I got over that as soon as they brought out lunch to us. Aguaschiles. I never knew a variation of ceviche existed like this, and I was unimpressed with the presentation until I took a bite. No wonder they bring this to you in volcanic rock. Normal bowl will just EXPLODE from the spicy heat and flavor! And that spicy shrimp has a MEAN kick to it, I mean a true slow burn that does not stop! But for all of the heat on the food I could still taste everything! With 1/4 of the bowl down and tears coming down my face, I thought I could stop and ask to have this taken down a notch... bit after my mouth cooled off I went back in to try again. Ask my friends, I'm a glutton... for punishment. 1/2 down, and we began to think about taking it back to the office... then I had a few more bites and still wanted more. Cucumbers, fresh tortillas, fresh citrus flavors... everything really enhanced each other, despite the chili. And a decent selections of Mexican beers helped wash it all down. I'm getting ready to fire up my left overs for dinner. Pray for me. Yes, I would go back for more and see everything else I missed from the excellent assortment of fish meals.
