Well, first time at Bowen yard and we came for the first Friday free bites event and that part I'm disappointed in we went to Maritime and you had to buy a drink and get a free bite so I got wine and I couldn't believe how he measured in this very small measuring cup for five dollars. I got practically nothing to drink. The free bite was a deviled egg which was very good I'm sure it's a good restaurant. I was very disappointed in the drink, though. This is our second time to this restaurant and this time was much better! We only got a couple appetizers but they were absolutely delicious. The popcorn shrimp deviled eggs was exactly what you would think. It was a deviled eggs with a popcorn shrimp on top. But it was sprinkled with Old Bay. The filling was much runnier than I was used to but the whole thing was a fiery interesting interpretation of deviled eggs. I'd get them again. The fried green tomatoes were a big hit too. They were definitely served differently. They fried green tomato slices were cut in half and placed around a bowl. In the center of the bowl was a big scoop of pimento cheese topped with pepper jam. So yummy!!!! And finally the February drink specials! I got the Love Potion which was a tequila drink with passion fruit and some other flavors. Absolutely loved it! Visited on a Sunday afternoon with friends. Others in the group had been here before and recommended it. They were not busy and we seated ourselves. The bar was full of folks watching football and only a few other tables were occupied. Out in the common area there were several dozen folks playing games and there was a person playing a guitar in a pavilion area. Some of the game players were floating in to get drinks but nothing distracting, Our server was quite attentive and orders were taken in a systematic way of drinks, then appetizers, then the main meal. As a water drinker, all I can say about the drinks is that others were satisfied with their drinks and the server frequently checked to see if refills were needed. They have a crab dip that others raved about so we got a couple of orders for the table - it was excellent. I also had a bowl of chowder which was excellent. Most of us ordered the fish and chips which was a large portion and was very good. All seemed to enjoy their meals. As seems to be increasingly common, as they added a fee for using a credit card to your bill. Final verdict, Maritime was added to our groups list as a future return. read more

DATE NIGHT ADVENTURE!!! The wifey and I felt like some Seafood and we wanted to try the newer place around town. MARITIME!!! We walked in about 8:15 pm on a Saturday night and to our surprise it was not very busy. This place has only been open since June. So we thought it would be packed on a Saturday night. We were greated by a bartender right away explaining the hostess just walked in the back and she'd be right out. Not even a minute later we were being seated It is a very modern clean dining area. It is a bit on the smaller side and the bar is very long with many seats. They also have an outside seating area!!! Our server Liz came over and introduced herself and was very customer friendly and informative. Starting by explaining their top dishes and specialty options that were not on the menu. She was interactive & responsive to our questions and she kept my root beer filled the entire time!!! The food was very good!!! The Wifey ordered the Fall Risotto with shrimp and loved it. The Shrimp were cooked perfectly and the mushrooms in the Risotto lifted the dish. Her only comment was the risotto was kinda bland on its own. She had the Rum Rum Reindeer for a drink and absolutely loved it. My drink was their craft Root beer which was very good, but had more flavor without ice. I ordered the Swordfish with orzo and WOW, It was so so good. The swordfish was cooked perfectly and was so well done I only needed a fork to break pieces off. The orzo salad base was outstanding and could be a stand alone salad option it was so YUMMY!!! I would definitely order this again!!! This place is a bit pricey and that may be why they were not that busy, but I cannot say for sure as we were not there at the traditional 6-8 dinner rush time. I could see more people eating here if they had some dishes that included a protein for under 20$. I do get they are trying to be a higher end establishment, but even those types of restaurants have a couple more affordable dishes to draw in a wider based clientele. There were so many employees, my wife and I noticed as many were standing around talking because there were no other tables after the couple that were there left shortly after our arrival. Foot to Value Ration: Good for a date night, but not for our Family of 5, unless it was a super special occasion. I did notice: Kid dishes were 15$ on their online YELP takeout menu, but we didn't even see the kids options on the menu we were given. Unfortunately I could not compare to see if they were cheaper than the online pricing. For the 2 drinks and 2 entrees we paid 72$ in total. Split = 36$ per person without Tip. The Reason for the 4 stars is for the only negative comment I have. Their straws are not wrapped and the server put my straw in my glass before bringing it to the table. Not only that when one of my refills had the straw popping up as she put it on the table, she grabbed it and put it back down. Which was nice, but again she touched the straw with her bare hand. With all the health challenges going on in the world recently and currently they should spend the money on a paper wrapped straw for hygienic purposes. Next time I will be bringing my own straw. Luckily they give you a glass of water where I was able to hand sanitize my straw then rinse it off with the glass of water to clean it thoroughly before using it. We also met one of the owners Miguel. He was super nice and when he came over to introduce himself he not only asked if we enjoyed ourselves, but if there was anything they could've done better. I appreciate when owner/managers do this. It shows they care and want to make sure they are continuously improving their processes based on their immediate customer feedback. Thank you for caring Miguel!!! I was going to mention the straw, but didn't want to end the night on that as my Wifey and I had a great experience all around. It also seems they rotate menu options so that is something to look forward to as well, besides our new Fav's. Stopped here for lunch, we ordered the hushpuppies with the fish dip. The hushpuppies were over fried put still good. The fish dip was excellent, it had large pieces of fish in it with picked onion on the top. I ordered the catfish po boy with fries. It did not disappoint! It was really good. My husband got the lobster roll, he was eating before I could get a pic. He said it was excellent. Definitely would return to try more. read more

This was our first time at Maritime. My husband and I were craving fresh oysters and heard this place had good specials. Unfortunately we didn't come on Monday when they have the $1 oyster specials. We ordered 18 oysters, 1 appetizer and 4 drinks and our bill was over $120. The oysters seemed fresh but they were small and just ok. Drinks were expensive and just ok. The service was great and everyone was very friendly just not impressed with the vibe of the place. Maybe some live music would help. The food was absolutely phenomenal! My new favorite restaurant in Polk county! Great happy hour from 2:30-5pm daily. Amazing daily specials. We came for Polk county taco week and I was definitely not disappointed. Started with the crab Rangoon dip... soooo good. Wonton chips were fresh and warm. The fried fish tacos were the best I've ever had. The owner, Miguel, came out and introduced himself. He said the chef makes homemade beer batter daily. My wife has the burger and loved it!!! My wife and I enjoyed the Saturday Brunch at the Maritime restaurant newly located in the Bowen Yard restaurant complex. The complex has a vast variety of food types, some with no internal seating where people eat in the yard area or some like Maritime have casual internal and external seating. We tried the "Maritime Fry Up" with Two eggs any style, Bacon, Andouille Sausage, Fried Green Tomatoes, Pimento Cheese Grits with Sourdough Toast and in-house Apple Butter Spread, $15, The grits were very special particularly with the Andouille Sausage and Fried Green Totatoes. This is a must try dish and only seems to be on the Brunch Menu. Our other dish was the "Shrimp and Grits": Blackened Shrimp, Kielbasa Sausage, Pimento Cheese Grits, Charred Tomatoes and Corn, with Sunny Side Eggs and Scallions $19. It was a wonderful combination of textures and flavors. The blackened shrimp had the right spice level blended with the wonderful pimiento cheese grits. The shrimp were a little dry/over grilled for my taste but still worth a try when you have the brunch menu. Our server, Cecily, was timely, pleasant and gave excellent recommendations on our food choices to make sure we tried the dishes that were only available on the brunch menu. The atmosphere was pleasant with a very long bar down one wall with college football games playing on two TVs behind the bar and with casual tables spread around the restaurant with views of the Bowen Yard. The patrons were somewhat upscale with some "girl's day out" groups. The staff was courteous and relatively young. Prices were medium high but reflected the quality of the food. Desserts looked good but we decided to get hand crafted ice cream across the yard. "We're Coasting Now" and will definitely be back to try the lobster rolls and special dip appetizers. read more

I like this place. The food is good and the vibe is casual but classy. They have a really great happy hour menu with drinks and food. The drinks are perfect. I really love the crab Rangoon dip and the presentation is so cute. I am not big on fried, but my partner always gets the fish sand which and loves it. I always try something different and have not been disappointed so far. Last time I tried the poke nachos which I've only ever tried at yard house. It was a little different with the pineapple which I was not the biggest fan of but overall I enjoyed the meal and I liked the little peppers a lot. My wife and I stumbled into Maritime on a rainy Saturday night accompanied by 3 of our guests visiting from Iowa. Growing up in Florida on one of the West Coast beaches, you are raised around quality seafood - hence my hesitation at trying a seafood restaurant so far inland. I'm glad I left my reservations at the door because every single item on the menu that we ordered was spectacular. Our waitress sat us near the kitchen and immediately got our water and gave us recommendations for libations befitting our personal choice in spirits. The bar was well stocked with top shelf liquor and every drink came out quick with a smile. Our table ordered Poke Nachos, Lobster Bisque, PEI Oysters, Forbidden Rice, Banh Mi, and the kids Cheeseburger. The Poke Nachos were the best I've ever had - covered in marinated cubes of Ahi Tuna and drizzled eel sauce and sriracha mayo. The surprise for me was the addition of grilled pineapple chunks and mini drop peppers. They added a pop of flavor that complimented the marinated tuna and mellowed out the saltiness. The Oysters were on par with many of the restaurants we frequent in Savannah on vacations, but the star of the show for me was the Lobster Bisque. For me, Lobster Bisque can be a hit or miss, depending on the consistency of the broth and the amount of lobster included. The depth of flavor in this Bisque was insane, and for 13$ you get nearly an entire tail thickly chunked throughout the soup. It turned my wife into a fan of lobster bisque despite her very limited palette for seafood. 5/5 based on the food quality, the attentiveness of the staff, and the cost to quality ratio delivered with each dish. We will be back for more and thank you for a wonderful Saturday evening. read more

First time going to this location because they have a happy hour that has oysters for a dollar apiece all day on Mondays. When we got there, it was surprisingly not busy for a Florida restaurant with all the retirees. We were greeted and seated promptly our server, cc, was excellent. My first delight was that they served water and beautiful carafe along with lovely glassware. Had a vodka martini and again they use proper stem wear. That makes the drink so much more appealing and I love that. They know this! My husband ordered a blue moon, which was not on the happy hour menu. It was a little bit pricey at around eight dollars so when we return, we'll stick with another option. We ordered the oysters and they were very good although the shells were a bit dirty, but their sauces were good. Then we had an order of fried green tomatoes which were impeccable and we shared a fish sandwich. The sandwich was huge and again it was served hot and fresh with their fabulous hand cut french fries all in all I'd give this restaurant 4.4 out of five stars. Keep up the good work read more

I hate myself for this but I can't find another star to award after my recent visit here. The place, as you know is an exciting eclectic dining spot on the outskirts of downtown Winter Haven. Over the past few years there have been a number of independently owned restaurants opening their doors. Maritime is located in the just developed Bowden Yard food court where family's can let the kids loose on the astroturf play area while they enjoy a meal form one of the restaurants or a lose their inhibitions with some delightful ice cream from a new scoop shop located in the yard. Maritime is a nice place , the interior somewhat eclectic and slightly barren, but functional in a family friendly way. Bathrooms are clean and fresh. This should be a five star review if the food measured up to the building. I made the mistake of ordering a "Cape Cod Poutine" as an appetizer, expecting something other than the traditional Canadian dish of French fries and cheese curds with brown gravy. I just can't figure out what was "Cape Code" about this dish but it was a disaster. The Oysters, served raw, were nice and fresh served with two sauce options. The baked Oysters were ok as this place interpreted Oysters Rockefeller presentation but missed the mark on preparation and presentation. Then came the entrees, a house specialty, the meal I was looking forward too as an old Cape Codder looks forward to crossing the Borne Bridge, Fresh Fried Beer Battered Haddock with French Fries. Oh lord what were they thinking? The waiter delivered a mound of greasy, over breaded, gummy battered, dry haddock filet over French Fried potatoes doused in salt. We ate what we could, took a credit for the cheese turd poutine, and promised each other we would never come back. That's a shame! This place has the potential for a five star review, but until it's kitchen comes together to deliver on it's promise of the "new favorite seafood restaurant in Winter Haven Florida". We were seated. Then waited, waited, and waited some more-nothing. No water, no...nothing. The atmosphere was good, I wish I could review the food, but we couldn't even get water! It mostly is served on a plate with the chicken covered with sauce, mushrooms and onions with choice of noodles or mash potatoes Beside of chicken. This look like something you would get at a truck stop. It was dry and not very tasty. I'm not one to return my food but your chef needs to learn how to cook the dishes as they are to be served. We sat in their outside seating area but found that the restroom was also immediately located in the same area so there was always a few people standing in line right next to the tables to use it.
