I went back East to visit my parents for the Christmas holiday and they took me to their favorite restaurant twice. The food at Maritsas's is absolutely wonderful!! Everything tasted fresh and like it was homemade. I live in Las Vegas and with all the places there, nothing has compared to this. A small place in a historical town, the staff so friendly, they knew my Mom and Dad as they are regulars, we were made to feel like right at home. It was such a treat! While I live out West, the one thing I do miss, good East coast cooking and food. This place is absolutely awesome!! The first day, we went for breakfast, I had the Italian sausage and eggs, absolutely wonderful!! The next day we went for dinner, I had the chicken chicken cacciatore. I have not had such a good Italian style meal in a very long time!!This place I highly recommend for anyone who visits or lives in Jersey!! This place has quickly become a family favorite. It is a very unassuming spot on this small town's main drag, so be careful not to miss it. This place has a very country-ish type charm about it. The staff is exceptionally friendly and the meals taste homemade. I am yet to have a bad meal here. The white sauce for their ziti is addictive. My personal favorite is the country ranch chicken. After a recent local newspaper article about pancakes, my hubby & I decided to give them a try. I had blueberry pancakes and they were every bit as wonderful as the ones Fabienne was dreaming of before Butch went back to the apartment to get his watch in Pulp Fiction. I also got a side of scrapple (please don't judge me; I'm a Philadelphia girl) and it came out perfectly browned in the form of 2 generous slices. Hubby got a build-it-yourself omelette with mozzarella cheese and bacon, and I was really pleased to see how cooked the bacon was. He also got a soft drink and I got a coffee. Total check was $19 and change. The place is bright and cheery. The restaurant was very clean, and the bus boy was diligent about clearing empty tables quickly. There are a surprising number of servers working there; many more than I would have expected for a smallish restaurant. We drew the short straw and got the only unpleasant one. Such is life. This alone would not deter us from eating here again. I looked over the dinner menu and the prices are very, very reasonable. Parking can be had in the lot in back of the restaurant (which also has a public rear entrance) or any available parking space Main Street will put you near the front door. read more

Diner breakfast at its finest. We were seated in the private dining area with another table. This always worries me when im not in the main dining area for fear of being forgotten. Not the case here. Service was great. Ordered a hot sausage omelette and the wife had a breakfast sandwich. Food came quickly and was nice and hot. The sausage had spice to it but i wouldn't call it hot. The potatoes were great as well.. The only issue i had was with my buttered toast. If your going to do the work do it right, if not let me. Not really that big of a deal, but it always bothers me when they put a tiny bit of butter of 4 pieces of toast. Best part it costs 20 bucks. Great cheap breakfast spot for sure! read more

My family and I arrived early on Fathers' Day Sunday. I was the odd-man out and had iced tea and a burger. I chose the Maple Shade burger, medium, with fries and cole slaw. The burger was tasty and cooked as requested. The fries were yummy and didn't need ketchup. The coleslaw ended up being a much larger portion than expected but was among the best I've had at a diner-like restaurant. Of the rest of us, my dining companions ordered a variety of omelettes and toast. They were too busy eating with satisfied looks on their faces to make comment, but everyone afterwards said their meals were quite delicious. Our server was courteous and as attentive as she could be given that with the post-Church rush on a family holiday brought unexpected traffic into the place. read more

While the service was excellent, the breakfast was just average. Giving it 1 star for their unwillingness to allow a patron to bring in a cup of Wawa or Starbucks coffee. The hostess appeared embarrassed while she told me of the policy. I wanted to leave but the rest of my family was hungry so I endured while they held my coffee hostage. Ridiculous way to treat a first (and last) time patron. We won't be back. read more

Seriously, Maritza's is the best place to eat in Maple Shade. I have been going there for a long time and they have served up nothing but consistently good food. The service is always excellent. I have never had to wait for more than 10 minutes for my food, even when they are mobbed on a Saturday morning. That is impressive. You have to get a cup (or vat) of their homemade chicken orzo soup. It's delicious...I even get it at breakfast. Breakfast, lunch or dinner you cannot go wrong at this place. If you are a Shader, then you know how good it is here. Worth a 5 star rating. After patronizing this place for the last 3 years, today was the worst experience I have ever had at a restaurant. We ordered a chicken parm sandwich as usual. There was something wrong this time with the chicken. After trying to eat half the sandwich, we sent the rest back. Not only was the waitress slow and uncaring, she was unapologetic. She simply dropped the check off with no discount. I would have expected the owner to at least take the one sandwich off the bill. When we approached the poorly English speaking owner. OMG. He treated us incredibly ruddily, told us he should throw us out for criticizing the food, picked up the returned sandwich at the check out register and took a bit. @#$$%&* Holy Crap. We'll never be back. I would recommend no one ever going there again. I can't tell you how insulting this guy was as he continued to act inappropriately. read more

Just had a horrible experience. Had a chicken parm sandwich that had a bad piece of chicken. I ate the half that was good and told the waitress about the bad piece. When I went to pay the check there was no adjustment or apology or anything. I tried to say something to the cashier and the older gentleman came up and started claiming that I ate a whole sandwich and wanted it for free among other things. He had kept the bad piece waiting for me and he pulled it out and actually pulled a piece of meat off my half eaten sandwich and ate it himself. I have been going there for a long time. Not any more. So belligerent and petty. Never been treated like this by a restaurant before. read more

We had a private luncheon in the back room. The staff was good about refilling the trays and making sure everyone's drinks were full. The whole atmosphere was very cozy and homey. Get the chicken parm and baked ziti; skip the vegetable medley (a little too well done for my taste). Good brunch/lunch choice in the area. read more

It's basically diner food, quite good and well priced. The menu is extensive. Breakfast is served all day. It was very busy. As a result, service was fairly good, but not great. I heard good things about it and was not disappointed. Will try the Sunday brunch buffet next. read more

When it comes to great food at a great price Maritza's is the place to go. Family owned and operated. Owner does a lot of the cooking himself witch in a sense gives it a home cooked feel. A large variety of daily specials to satisfy everyone in the family. I personally recommend the chicken parmesan, very large portion, very great flavor, very small price. The chicken orzo soup witch is on the menu daily is also outstanding. During weekdays they run a 3 egg ( with choice of meat and cheese) breakfast sandwich special for $4.75. My daughter's high school soccer team decided to go to Maritsas for breakfast one morning after practice. They called about twenty minutes before they arrived to let them know they were coming in with a party of about twenty-five people. When they arrived, they were told that, due to the size of their party, they would have to pay a $50 fee to be seated in a private room. They were not told this prior to arriving. There were several open tables, so they asked if they could be split up into five tables of five rather than pay a $50 fee. The response was, "No, because we will have other customers come in that will need those tables." I'm not sure why you would chase away five tables of customers for customers who MAY come in. This is very disappointing and a poor business decision. read more
