After multiple balayages, highlights, trims, haircuts, and blowouts I think it's only fair I update my Yelp review :) Why I keep coming back: - Truly an artist! I'm always blown away by how well my color comes out every time. My balayages and highlights always blend so well into my natural hair. Even 3-4 months after I get my hair color my friends and co workers continue to compliment my hair! - She's honest! I absolutely appreciate Maria's honesty. I usually bring a few pictures as references for what I want my hair color or hair cut to be. She's quick to level set my expectations about how my hair will turn out. I have thick, dark hair and Maria always keeps it 100 with me- before she does anything she will explain how light my hair will actually go without frying it, damage to expect, and how a haircut I may want will turn out differently because of my hair texture. I would much rather have someone like Maria working on my hair than any hairstylist that will just do what I want when they know it won't look good. For the women that left reviews about how shocked they were with the prices... how do you not ask about prices before sitting in a hairstylists' chair?? Or even when you call to make an appointment? I don't understand. If you knew before hand you wouldn't be shocked. - Haircut/trim: ~$50 - Blowout: ~$25 - Partial Highlights: ~$150 - Balayage: $250+ (Prices are estimates because I have relatively long hair and it may differ for you depending on your hair length/texture). First, this isn't just a hair cut or a blowout, this feels like a deeply personal experience with someone passionate about her craft, her life, everything. To be in the same room is to be sucked into her obvious joy for everything she does. It's mesmerizing. I went in for a blowout and got great conversation, the best blowout I have literally ever had and a chance to feel some goodness in this mad world. It was amazing. Maria uses THE best products. Ex-boyfriends from high school came out of the woodwork to comment on it. The person behind me on a plane (coach mind you, where people are notoriously cranky) tapped me on the shoulder and popped their head into the aisle to ask me about my hair. I went back to work last week and former students, new students, parents, teacher friends, my administration all complimented me on the fabulousness that is my hair. I really wanted to cut it all off - a "choppy bob" length. Jeff nodded knowingly and I felt completely at ease. Ladies can get anxious prior to losing a lot of length - not me, because I completely trust Jeff. "Chop it off! Chop it alllll off!" (It was particularly muggy that day). He laughed and said in due time. My shampooing was particularly luxurious. And the cut came and I looked up and I could cry I was so pleased. That evening I played with it and bounced it around and took my hair cut out. Oohs and aaahs ensued from friends and enemies alike. What can I say? The man is magic. She annihilated my color and did a ridiculous "dusting" of my split ends. I now have short hair all the way to my crown because she cut my "bangs" incorrectly. I have been babying and growing out my hair for 6 months and she ruined it in 2 hours. Please visit this salon, you will be pleased. Just don't let Joan touch your hair! I have brassy, orange and yellow in what was supposed to be a highlight. I have a freakin polka dot of blonde at my forehead. I paid $140 including tip for something I could have done myself.
