Had the toilet back-up. Tried rodding it, and things became worse if that is possible... Too graphic to explain. The house smelled terrible. Things are coming out of the small side drain. My kids were screaming, my wife was upset, etc. Holy cow it wasn't fun. Called Mark as soon as 7am hit as that was his office hours. Nobody picked up so I left a VM. He responded via text within a minute and texted me a rough cost estimate based on my description (I think he prefers text as opposed to calls). BTW, I felt that the cost was very reasonable. He was at my place bright and early at 8:30am. Mark was friendly, patiently listened to be explain the issue, was willing to get his hands dirty, etc. Like his approach of trying the simple solutions first. Thankfully it worked. He even wanted to check the crawl space below to make sure there was no water leaks. Thank goodness the crawl space was dry with no leaks at all. Talk about professionalism!! Great plumber. Excellent communication. Punctual. What more can a person ask for. Will definitely call him the next time I need plumbing work done. He lives in LaGrange, and his kids go to school here. Found out our sump pump switch was broken during a massive snow melt. Mark answered our call at closing time (and we were a new customer). We ran to Menard's to get a new pump and he installed it within 75 minutes of our call to him. Totally fair pricing - will use Kolecke Plumbing again for sure! read more

Mark is simply said, incredible!! We moved into our new house and had an issue with our home being backed up after a few toilet flushes and a lot of snow melting. Mark was able to show up within 30 minutes of requesting his services and he came back early in the morning (despite a snow storm) & he helped clear the roots out of our old clay pipes. Awesome plumber!! Knows what he's doing and reasonable. Dependable. There when he says he's going to be there. We found him just over a year ago and have called him 3 or 4 times. Extremely capable and not one to make false claims. Very honest guy! Best plumber we've called in the 16 years of owning our 100 year old house. We've probably seen the work of over 10 plumbers over the years and this is the only guy we've ever called back and will keep calling so long as he's willing and able to take the job! Couldn't be more satisfied. Had a major plumbing company out to the house for 2 minor issues. Replacing a kitchen sink and a minor repair of a toilet. They were unable to fix either issue and charged me a ridiculous amount for coming out. Got in touch with Mark and he was out right on time the next morning. A couple years ago, we were in need of a basement flood-control system. Most of the plumbers we spoke with wanted to install a check-valve system, and felt that it wasn't even really possible to install a less-expensive modified overhead sewer at our property, most likely due to some "extra work" it required. Mark, however, didn't see the so-called "extra work" as extra work. He just saw it as what was necessary to provide the best solution to our basement-flooding issue. We saved a lot of money with Mark. Mark's been doing great work for us for a few years now. We've had him in for a few other, smaller issues, all of which have been fixed in a timely manner. Mark was great! He came out and replaced two faucet cartridges on a rare brand of faucet (we supplied the cartridges) that was leaking. It was a very tough job but he stuck with it and got it done beautifully. He also fixed our vintage shower that was leaking, which was awesome because others had told us we needed to tear out walls to fix it. Mark was very professional and courteous and even wore a mask due to the Covid-19 situation. He did a great job at a fair price, and didn't try to upsell us to renovate our bathrooms with all new fixtures. He even used brass parts, not the cheap stuff. Mark was a plumber recommended by another plumber that was highly rated on Yelp . We had a problem with our sump pump which continues to run constantly. From the questions he asked he was very thorough an precise in what needed to be done at the house. He was reasonable for his pricing an we agreed on the install he there earlier than scheduled ( which is really awesome for contractors ) when he arrived he noticed that the job needed more work than discussed and charged accordingly . During the install my 2 kids 5yo and 2 yo were very curious. Mind you kids can be really bothersome and distracting. He did his job in about an hour. What I like the most about him was that he asked open ended questions to see what might be needed and what I might expect on the job through our conversations. Mark helped us in several ways at our building in Cicero. When we took over the property after our dad's passing, we had blockage that caused the water going into the sewer from the rain to spill over and make a large puddle between our property and our neighbors. Mark came out quickly and not only unclogged it but made sure the other downspout drains were properly working. Then again, when my brother needed a plumber on a different issue as we were updating the apartments, Mark came out and unclogged a drain - a blockage for which would have caused water to spill onto the flooring and would have caused quite a bit more to repair. Thank goodness he was able to solve this for us and save us the additional cost! I hired Mark Kolecke Plumbing based on a referral from my realtor. They were supposed to extend a gaspipe to my stove. After the job was done and I was told the plumber had tested the pipes for gas leaks, I left the house to run errands for a few hours. When I came back to the house, the smell of gas was extremely potent upon entering through the front door. I called People's Gas and notified them of the issue right away. Mark Polecke tried to talk me out of having People's Gas come at all, even though he told me he wouldn't be able to get to my house for more than an hour. Luckily I did not listen to him. I am three months pregnant and feared for mine and my unborn baby's safety. When People's Gas arrived on the scene they told me that the plumber had used an old valve that did not fit the new pipe he had installed. It had been actively leaking all day and was still bubbling when they pushed out the stove. When the plumbers finally arrived at my house after the gas company turned off the gas, I did not get an in person apology to my face. When I asked for a discount for the potential harm and frustration, I was refused. I understand people make mistakes, but they were not even apologetic and instead made excuses for their poor service. My realtor has said she will never refer business to them again. read more

Mark was recommended to me by another family in my son's preschool. Amazing to work with and I highly recommend him. I had a leak at the water main requiring a permit and two other smaller jobs. He fixed everything timely and the inspection passed with no problems. He was very professional and was also reasonable.
