Good service and it wasn't crowded for Saturday lunch. The decore was nice and seating was comfortable. Food was good but nothing to die for.

Relaxed environment with excellent food menu in general. Started with the calamari appetizer which was perfectly fried and calamari was tender, served with two sauce that elevated the calamari. I would come back just for this appetizer. We ordered fish & chips ( substituted onion rings)- perfectly fried, light and piping hot. ... and Rueben sandwich; It was good but may need a tastier rye bread. Butterscotch pudding dessert did not disappoint. In fact, it was better than I expected. Great friendly service- very attentive.

Some restaurants impress you once. Others become part of your life. Market belongs firmly in the second category. Nearly two decades into its run, it stands not as a trend, but as a fixture--steady, welcoming, and deeply woven into the rhythm of downtown Napa Valley life. Walking into Market feels less like entering a restaurant and more like being recognized. The staff knows your name, remembers your usual drink, asks how things have been going. There's an ease to it--unforced, genuine--that can't be trained overnight. It's the kind of familiarity that only comes from years of showing up, doing things right, and caring about the people on both sides of the table. The room itself reinforces that feeling. Banquette seating invites you to settle in. Tall ceilings and stone walls give the space presence without making it formal. The bar glows in darker, comforting tones--wood, bottles, soft amber light--like a living room that happens to pour excellent drinks. It's comfortable in the truest sense: relaxed, grounded, confident. Polished, but never precious. And then there's the food--quietly exceptional, in the way that only honest cooking can be. Market's dishes feel like home cooking perfected. Not reinvented, not overworked--just deeply understood. The kind of food that tastes like someone cooked it for you because they wanted you to enjoy it, not because they wanted applause. The macaroni and cheese is a perfect example. It's famously referred to as "macaroni and cheese for adults," and it earns that title without trying. Creamy but not greasy, rich but not heavy, structured without turning stiff. It's balanced, comforting, and thoughtful. A dish everyone thinks they can make--until they taste this one and realize how rarely it's done well. There's a reason it's been on the menu since day one. Then there's the fish and chips, another classic that Market quietly elevates. Instead of the heavy, crunchy batter that often overwhelms the fish, theirs is light and tender, allowing the fish itself to shine. Paired with a beautifully made house tartar sauce, it's familiar yet refined--comfort food that respects its ingredients. And no conversation about Market is complete without mentioning the butterscotch pudding. It's one of those desserts people chase--trying to recreate elsewhere, usually unsuccessfully. Light, silky, and deeply satisfying without being cloying, it arrives nestled in a homemade waffle-style cup, topped with fresh whipped cream. It's indulgent but gentle, nostalgic without being old-fashioned. A dessert that feels like a hug at the end of the meal. Beyond those standouts, the menu offers something for everyone. Burgers that satisfy without pretense. Lighter options that don't feel like compromises. Heartier dishes when the day calls for it. Everything is made with care, using quality ingredients, prepared with consistency and confidence. Whether you're there for a casual business lunch, a relaxed dinner with friends, a first date, or an evening away from the kids, Market knows how to hold space for the moment. What truly sets Market apart, though, is the culture behind the scenes. Chef Ernesto and his team have built something lasting--not just a menu, but a workplace where people are proud of what they do. You see it in the way the staff communicates, supports one another, and moves through service with calm assurance. There's no tension, no rush for show. Just quiet competence and mutual respect. That care extends outward, and you feel it as a guest. It's why people keep coming back. It's why the restaurant has endured while others have come and gone. Market doesn't chase novelty--it offers reliability, warmth, and excellence, night after night. In a region known for innovation and reinvention, Market stands as a reminder that consistency, heart, and hospitality never go out of style. It belongs exactly where it is, and it feels like it always has. This is the kind of place you return to tomorrow--not because you're searching for something new, but because you already know you'll be well taken care of.

03012025 Arugula salad in the background and Dungeness crab bisque in the forefront

03012025 Omg - highly recommend this spot! It was our first time dining here for lunch (definitely make reservations just in case!) and the staff were all so friendly! That's kinda rare nowadays since how many staff are overworked and burned. Our server (I forgot his name - he was bald) but oh so funny and friendly! He gave his speech re specialties and gave us recommendations. Girlfriends and I had cocktails to get our shindig started. 2 of us had the blood orange Manhattan (wow - it was made so good - subtle and delish!) and the other cocktail I forgot what my friend got. Nonetheless she too loved her cocktail. My two friends shared the arugula salad and I had a cup of their Dungeness crab bisque. The soup was creamy and just right in taste. For our mains - it was a specialty of the day: hanger steak. Our server was describing it to us, my friends and I were all sold! We all opted to get medium rare and it was made to perfection. The asparagus were not over cooked and the truffle mashed potatoes had the right amount of truffle oil that it wasn't overpowering. We rushed through having the butterscotch pudding (which was again recommended by our server) and indeed it was delicious. The prices are decent for Napa. Will definitely visit again and I hope their quality stays same until then!

Decent size dining room with some cool history particularly about the bar. Thanks to our wonderful server Alfie who gave us the whole spiel about the restaurant and the menu. I appreciate little touches like black napkins for those wearing dark clothing. I enjoyed all the food. The tuna tartare and the salad were delicious and the mac n cheese had great flavor. The fish was good, but the batter was a bit soft, wish it was crispier. The gnocchi also had a bit too much flour I think, the texture was chewer and more cakey than most gnocchi I've had.

Dining here was one of our favorite parts of our trip to wine country. This isn't just a restaurant--it's a place full of heart, warmth, and genuine hospitality. From the moment we walked in, we felt like we were being welcomed into someone's home(shout out to Alfie) The food was thoughtful and delicious--beautifully prepared, with seasonal ingredients that really celebrate the region. Every dish felt like it had a story behind it. You can tell the kitchen takes pride in their craft. What really stood out, though, was the atmosphere. The owner is so present and clearly loves his team--you can feel the mutual respect and care in every interaction. There's a sense of joy and pride here that's rare and refreshing. If you're looking for a place that's soulful, genuine, and deeply connected to the community, this is it. A true St. Helena treasure.

    Scallops

Excellent, long time local favorite with different takes and tastes on favorite foods. The long, narrow, high ceiling and rock walls make for a loud setting. The Oysters are fresh and tasty. The Lobster roll is artful, enhanced by thoroughly mixing and drizzling the vin. The Salmon was perfectly done . Try the suggested plates like the Scallops. Even desserts innovate with the Brûlée Banana Split, though there was too much ice cream, hiding the delight. There is a full bar and an extensive,, Cabernet heavy, local wine list. Service is good but stretched, with long time waitstaff.

Another visit to this go to spot for us. Came alone and was seated at a nice table close to the front. Nice salad to start and great halibut entree.

Ordered their Cobb Salad. Healthy style but delicious. Broccoli, tomatoes ,egg, peas, bacon, Bleu cheese, carrots, was really good. I would order again. Topped wit a glass of Rose.Service is great a great place for lunch or dinner. Ambiance is intimate as well .

Solid classics. Easy street parking. Good food & service. My friends enjoyed their BBQ and fried chicken. I liked my prime rib. Complimentary bread is always a winner. The molten lava cake was room temp and I wish it was served warmer for that oooey gooey chocolate filling to ooze out, but it was too room temp and not as satisfying as it could have been. However, the cake paired with hazelnut gelato was sooo good. I was full but couldn't stop eating it! This isn't a place I would drive out of my way for, but it is solid and if I'm the area I will definitely be back.

Service. - prompt and efficient Parking - tough in Main Street. Look for parking in side streets and a block over Food - chicken sando was delicious. Nice pepper topping and cooked perfectly. Prime rib was good. Horseradish cream is mild so if you want spicy you'll need to ask something extra

You are enmeshed in a peaceful sanctuary, enveloped by the lush greenery outside. Soft, tasteful music accompanies. The food is very good, at times superb, with attractive, precise platings. The wait worked togethrr as a team and even the manager helped out with bussing tables-true professionals! As we had a reservation for dinner at Bouchon, we wanted something smaller so my wife and I got the house salad and the cup of chili. The salad was a good portion and loaded with toppings including hard boiled egg, homemade croutons, cheese, etc. And dressed just right. The "cup" of chili was a good sized bowl. It was the best chili I've ever had in a restaurant! Plenty of beef with a mix of cubed (chili cut) and ground beef. The spice level was just right, no added hot sauce needed, topped with cheddar and raw onion. My wife couldn't finish hers, but after finishing mine, as much as I wanted to I couldn't either! This may be a long review for salad and chili but the service made Rutherford Grill one of our best meals in Napa. We'll definitely be back next time we're in town.

However, a very humiliating experience happened to me at a restaurant (not Rutherford Grill) that had me vomiting ( thank God on the floor) a truly embarrassing situation! So, it had been recommended by my health practitioner to have pro biotic drinks, rather then a soft drinks. My friend and I went to Rutherford bar and grill once a week. On this particular evening, we were seated, I asked for a glass of ice for my pro biotic drink which I took out of my purse (I bought it at Wholefoods minutes prior to going to restaurant ) She immediately said you can not bring your own beverage inside. I showed her my un-opened bottle,"it's lemon ginger for my stomach disorder its not alcoholic". I respectively pointed to the bottle. She kindly departed and said that she would get back to me on whether or not I could drink it, after speaking with her supervisor. Meanwhile roughly 10 or fifteen minutes had passed and the gal never got back to myself and my friend seated at the table. Fifteen minutes later, a tall attractive women (possibly 40 to 45 years of age) with a white chef top and black pants came to our table. She had long black straight hair and fiery red lipstick. She came to our table, and asked, if there was anything we needed. I was surprised and asked, "are you a chef? this is unusual your coming to our table". She ignored my question, and asked again, "was there anything we needed?' I explained that my friend had ordered her drink already and that I had asked for a glass of ice. "by this time close to twenty minutes had passed since the gal said she'd ask her supervisor) So, my thought was "oh I guess I can drink my pro biotic". So, my friend got her alcoholic beverage and a glass of ice was brought to me. I poured my drink into my ice filled glass and took one sip...when miss tall attractive women with the chef uniform approaches me..sadly her expression was jealousy and happiness as she spoke to me as though she was "getting off", on telling a genuinely kind and tall blonde woman, "give me your drink" my friend and I were shocked! I explained its a pro biotic for my stomach challenges, its not alcohol." She smiled a fake smile and said "hand it to me, beverages are not allowed to be brought into our restaurant!" tears pricked at my eyes out of shock and embarrassment, because fellow patrons were looking at me like I had done something wrong. I said..."well then can I go outside and drink it? this was an expensive drink for my stomach, I just bought it had Wholefoods a few minutes ago." She sternly said, "No. Consider this a warning or never come back again!", as she reached over me and took my bottle and my glass away! My experience was beyond humiliating. Needless to say we did not eat dinner their and my friend did not drink her margarita. I am a Spiritual life Coach. I value and love, treating people with compassion and respect. Jealousy is ugly, no matter how attractive a women may be! Needless to say my friends and myself after several years of eating there: have never returned. This situation happened 4 months ago. I felt it was time to express my feelings.

It was topped with fried scallions, and stuffed with green onion cream cheese. The worked said it must've been meant for me...it was the last one of the day! 3) Pain au Chocolat - Visually stunning. The layers around the pastry make it crackly and so decadent. The downside? The actual chocolate! It was a skinny line of chocolate in my pastry, barely non-existent. Loved the pastry, the "au chocolat" part? Needs work. All in all, I was extremely pleased by Under-Study! I love trying "novel items", and I heard they have a Lobster Corn Dog?? Guess that will have to wait til' next time!

Out of all the Gott's locations, this has to be my absolute favorite. It's incredibly spacious, all…read moreoutdoor, and just has really good vibes all-around. I can't believe I haven't shared a review of this spot yet! Friendly staff and just a very well oiled-machine. The Vietnamese Chicken Salad is something to write home about. Served with a Peanut Lime Vinaigrette, the salad has a variety of lettuces, mung beans sprouts, peanuts, crispy fried chicken breast, green onions, pickled red Fresno chiles, and I'm sure I'm missing a few ingredients :) it's so delicious and worthy of its own review. The burgers and onion rings with ranch sauce, always superb. Honestly, never had a bad meal here. The menu also features an Ahi Burger, Cubano Sandwich, and a variety of unique burger options including turkey burgers, Impossible burgers, beef patties, and also Impossible chicken nuggets. There's plenty of other fun sides like chili cheese fries and fried Brussels, and other menu items including tacos, hot dogs, soups, and a kiddo menu. Don't skip out on a shake, NA bevvie, or beer/wine options. On a beautiful future sunny day, a perfect stop when in the area pre/post wine tasting.

Since our…read moregroup was quite hungry, we ordered the California Burger, Kimchi Burger, and Western Bacon Blue Ring Burger, along with fries, onion rings, and sweet potato fries. The food was good overall, though nothing particularly stood out. What impressed us most was the ambiance and service. The venue is spacious and can comfortably accommodate large groups like ours of 25 people. Despite the busy lunch crowd, the staff handled orders efficiently, and the service was fast and organized. A great spot for groups looking for a convenient and comfortable dining experience in Napa.
