Walk in early dinner at 4:30pm, there's plenty of seating. Sat outside to enjoy the nice courtyard and greenery view. Started with bread and veggie plate. Veggie plate with soy dip was really delicious. The hamburger ($28) was a bit soggy, just did not hold up properly. The hamburger meat was seasoned well, too oily and I wished there was maybe lettuce and tomato that compliments better. The fries were delicious. The service was a bit slow, though, that may be because our waitress went on lunch. Overall, the restaurant is nicely decorated, but the food choices can be more balanced
We had a gastronomical evening tonight at Charter Oak and enjoyed having Maggie as our delightful and enthusiastic server. She was very understanding of my gluten and cheese free needs and she explained everything in detail and she's only been there for 3 months She made sure everything was perfectly tailored and our meal was fantastic! I'm obsessed with the corn ribs and want more! They are perfection! I also loved the mixed peppers from the Chatter Oak garden down the street. We both ordered the steel head entree and it was perfectly cooked skin side down. The building is sturdy and filled with interesting artwork and you can see foliage through every window. It was a stellar experience!
Gorgeous patio with tons of seating and fire pits, but it was a bit chilly so we sat inside. Big open space, you can see the grill. Decent menu, good wine list, good service. Ordered the burger rare and it was perfect and delicious. Ribs were very smoky and yummy, but could have been cooked a little longer as they weren't exactly fall off the bone texture. Overall great service, really good food. Would describe come back and recommend.
We started with the bread and raw vegetables, followed by the breakfast sandwich, and finished with the burnt chocolate cream. Had a great brunch at The Charter Oak. They have a lot of gluten-free modifications available, including their delicious bread + house cultured butter. As always, both the food and service were excellent. I've only been to The Charter Oak for lunch and dinner before, but I think their brunch menu might be my favorite!

Charter oak was easily one of my favorite restaurants in Napa Valley and a highlight of my birthday weekend. From the moment we arrived, everything was exceptional--the atmosphere, the service, and, most importantly, the food. We ordered the cheeseburger, wings, octopus, and beef tartare, and every single dish was outstanding. Nothing disappointed, and each plate was full of flavor and beautifully prepared. A special thank you to our sommelier, Alec, who made the experience even better. He was knowledgeable, friendly, and helped make our meal truly memorable. I highly recommend charter oak to anyone visiting Napa Valley. Great food, great service, and a fantastic atmosphere. We can't wait to come back!
We visited Charter Oak for dinner and would highly recommend requesting a table on the beautiful patio if possible. The atmosphere outside was lovely and much more enjoyable, as the dining room inside was surprisingly loud during our visit. The sourdough was good, though it definitely leaned heavily into the tangy side of sourdough. If you enjoy a strong, sour flavor profile, you'll likely love it. The miso Caesar was the dish I was most excited to try. The lettuce was fresh and crisp, and there were moments when the flavors came together beautifully. However, I found the dish somewhat inconsistent. Some bites were perfectly balanced, while others were overwhelmed by the miso, making the flavor profile a bit uneven throughout the salad. The fries were absolutely incredible and tasted homemade. They had a perfectly crispy exterior with a pillowy soft interior, creating the ideal texture in every bite. Crispy, flavorful, and perfectly executed, they were easily one of the highlights of the meal. The true stars of the evening, however, were the burger and the steak. Both were cooked to perfection and showcased the restaurant's ability to let high quality ingredients shine. The burger was juicy, flavorful, and expertly prepared. My only wish was that caramelized onions had been available, as I think they would have elevated the burger even further. Unfortunately they were unable to accommodate that request, but they were happy to provide raw onions on the side, which was appreciated. The steak was cooked exactly as ordered and packed with flavor. These were the dishes that stood out most to us and are what we would recommend ordering without hesitation. Overall, Charter Oak delivered some memorable dishes, particularly the burger, steak, and fries. Combined with the beautiful patio setting, it made for a very enjoyable Napa dining experience.

It took some time but we finally made our way to Charter Oak. I forget why we waited to try this place but boy was it good. I was hesitant to try the miso Cesar and I'm glad I did. It was delicious and can be shared by at least 2. The tomahawk steak was cooked to perfection and sauce made it extra special. Our server took good care of us and even comped one side dish when it was served a little later. The corkage was free and that's a huge plus. This place gets packed even at 5:30pm... so better make reservations.
If you eat the in the Napa Valley long enough you witness the turnover of restaurants. Lately I've been to a lot of recently renovated restaurants that were hot spot long ago now gone. Case in point Charter Oak was once Tra Vigne. Gone is stately and posh ambiance of TV, replaced upscale lodge atmosphere of CO. The entrance and courtyard are beautifully aged brick and iron. The dining area is large open room dominated by an open flame cooking oven. Dark woods and leather now make this place more comfortable than before. I like how Napa has elevated food in a casual comfortable settings. Overall, great ambiance. The food was very good overall. The stars were the devil eggs, cinnamon roll, grilled trout and the Bavette. Most things had a touch smoke as I believe most things were cooked over an open fire. If I come back I would definitely have the Bavette and Trout as mains. The service was good overall. I didn't experience any lapses. Our server was a pro and the others acted like a team. Overall a great place to eat if you like this style of cooking. I think I'd come have for the ambiance, grilled meat and a cab.
A little disappointed bc the reviews were really good, as well as the photos. Unfortunately this was a miss for me. I originally had dinner reservations elsewhere and changed it to this place bc of all the reviews I'd read and so many locals said this was their favorite place. The food was ok. Let's just say my favorite dish was the SALAD (miso caesar). The steak tartare was disappointing. While it looked good, it lacked flavor. The bread which we ordered (was not complimentary) was hard. We took the lamb and $13 rice to go. I tasted the lamb before we left and it was pretty salty. Although service was mostly good, our serve did not offer us an alcoholic beverage. We thought maybe he forgot, but after visiting our table at least 3-4 times in the first 20 mins, we were never asked if wanted one. We decided with all the food we ordered, we'll just grab a drink elsewhere afterwards. The other thing is the server suggested putting in the order all at once and that they would space it out. This is bc they cook most of their proteins over an open fire. So we did what was recommended and EVERYTHING, but the entrée came out five minutes after we ordered it. This is why we ended up taking our lamb and rice home...we were full from eating everything else that was supposed to be spaced out. Also, everything came out so fast, we were there for just 45 mins. Anyway, I'm sure this was just a one-off situation, but I was highly disappointed bc I had convinced my hubby that this place was all the rage. I would disagree after my visit. I might go back one day, but to be honest, there are sooo many restaurants to dine at, I don't think I would be back soon unless a friend suggested it. Side Note: Parking was easy as they have a designated parking lot and there are also lots of side street parking.
Charter oak is a gorgeous restaurant in St Helena. They have both an indoor and outdoor space, with a large bar. I had been told by multiple people that their cheeseburger is one of the best in the areas so I had to try it... and WOW! The people were right. It was absolutely delicious and one of the best burgers I've had in a long time. Our server was kind and our drinks came quickly! Would definitely return when in the area.
We had lunch at the Charter Oak and had a nice restaurant experience in Napa. The outside patio was beautiful. We started with a mixed drink (since we were going to wine taste for the next few days). The Copyright (frozen ginger beer, lime and rum) was refreshing. We then tried the Denver Steak (4/5), the Summer Squash (3/5) and the Cheeseburger (4/5 - but the fries and homemade ketchup were 6/5). Overall nice experience.

Every once in a while you just walk into the place that screams... "You're going to love it here." Well, The Charter Oak Restaurant is one of those places. I asked "Where can I get a good burger" at multiple wineries and everyone pointed me here. Now I know why! As we walked in, (we were lucky as we did not have reservations for lunch but came early) the atmosphere, venue, electricity in the air was amazing. They also have a lovely outside seating area, which seems to the hot spot. It was exactly how all the people described it and the overall atmosphere was amazing with that giant open flaming cooking area at the end and in the middle. I had the perfect seat to watch it and the amazing Chef Marshall preparing food. A lovely young lady ( am am embarrassed that I did not write down names) came by and got us started with menus, silverware and a drink order. Then our amazing waiter (same thing on the name) came over to explain more. Both my wife and I already knew that we were having the burger. (Pretty rare and special for her to have a burger.) Not much to say other than they were AMAZING! Two patties (rather large) on a bun with special sauce and cheese. These weren't just good, they were really, really good. Cooked perfectly (medium) and served with the most amazing hand cut fries. This place definately set a new bar... and it's really high! Through the whole meal, I got to watch Chef Marshall at the grill. Lunch and a show, how perfect was this day? Made reservations at Charter Oak for dinner and snagged a seat on their patio area. Highly recommend trying to sit outside if possible. It is very nice and romantic. The dining room area is an open space so it can definitely be on the louder side. There is a parking lot for the restaurant so finding parking is a breeze. We were sat as soon as we arrived at our reservation time and handed the menus. We started the evening with a small order of bread and butter. The bread was super tasty. For entree the hubs and I shared the Wagyu Tomahawk and it was huge!!! We ordered it medium rare and the steak was definitely a little over. Taste wise, it was still pretty good. Its served with your choice of side so we got the turnips and onions and they were delish. I would say I'm not sure the tomahawk is worth the steep price tag. Other than that the ambiance outside is so beautiful. Probably a good place for some drinks and appetizers to enjoy the outdoor area. read more

Came here to celebrate our anniversary. We started our experience sitting at the bar where we enjoyed some delicious cocktails and appetizers. Our bartender, Kayla, was so wonderful and talented with making our drinks and even introduced us to a new kind of mezcal we haven't tried before. When we had our dinner out on the terrace, we were served with such professionalism and kindness that made our whole evening really enjoyable. We enjoyed the corn, squash blossoms, sourdough bread, cheeseburger and the grilled steak. All were really wonderful. I would happily come back next time I'm in the area. We've been to this restaurant a couple of times and it's hit the mark every time. The warm bread, the miso Caesar salad, and the burger were all absolutely delicious. Finish it off with the soft serve, which honestly may have been the best soft serve flavor profile we've ever had. Will come back again for sure. read more
Unfortunately an underwhelming experience in total. We were so excited to come to Charter Oak as we had heard nothing but amazing things. Upon arrival we were told our table wasn't ready and we could wait at the bar. This would have been fine but after a long day of wine tasting all we wanted to do was sit and eat, not drink any more. After a half hour past our reservation we were finally seated. For food we had the vegetables and dip. The dip is incredible and is truly a must get. For entrees we all had the burger and it was one of the best burgers I have ever had. If there's one thing this place does well it is the food for sure. Service was questionable. Our waiter was also the sommelier, while he was very kind and friendly I think he may make a better sommelier than waiter as we were constantly left with not attention. Ambiance is very cool. The open fire stove and overall vibe is very rustic and cool. Overall Charter Oak aces the food but they need to work on their service. I wouldn't say to not come but there are just as good places in the area that will give you better service. read more
Megan was fantastic! She was so on top of it!!!! They run out of specialty cocktails at times and she was able to make sure we secured the ones we wanted to try... even with a 8pm reservation. CHICKEN WINGS DRY RUB BUFFALO - OMG 4 of us shared two orders of wings and two burgers. Instead of having dessert, we ordered another batch of wings because they were so good. Then we DoorDashed three batches the next day. No joke - I hope they make these a permanent staple. Outstanding. The ambience is fantastic, location is easy and parking is quick and close. This was the first night of our trip and we really started off on a high note. Thank you!!!! read more

Happy Hour Menu is a hidden gem here!! The burger is absolutely fantastic!! The salad was delicious as well. Its wine country but if you need a little change the bourbon and tequila selection are fantastic. The service was great and very friendly. The happy hour time is much less crowded and you should be able to walk in and be seated. The bar seating is a great spot. read more

This is my second visit to the restaurant after four years. The grilled avocado is still very special--I ordered it last time and have remembered it ever since. Definitely worth a try. The salad is fresh; you can't go wrong with it. The Wagyu tomahawk is reasonably good. If you like beef, it's not a bad choice. read more

Loved it!! Would give 6 stars if I could! Ok, I'm a guy from the east coast who's never been to Napa previously, so if I'm gushing, forgive me. I dined with my two grown daughters at Charter Oak in late June. We had a lovely experience. The physical location is beautiful, both inside and out. We met the host and were quickly shown to our table in the large, lodge-like building. The dining room is beautiful, with high ceilings, a large open fire grill, and a welcoming bar. You can also eat/drink outside in a walled, brick and ivy covered, and beautifully lit, courtyard. Everyone working at Charter Oak exuded friendly, relaxed, competent charm. As we had been wine tasting during the day, we decided to order cocktails. We ordered the house Old Fashioned, the Gin & Cardamon, and the Upsie-Daisy (a tequila drink). All very good. The menu is actually not that large, but features plenty of choice. We like to share dishes so we can try a variety of foods. We started with the Charter Oak bread service, the raw vegetables from the farm, and the stuffed squash blossoms. All excellent, with the standout being the raw vegetables. So fresh, so tasty. We had the grilled cucumber salad and the grilled Denver steak. The Denver steak arrived sliced and was delicious. For dessert we all shared the pecan soft serve ice cream. Unusual and great. After dinner we sat at one of the fire pits in the courtyard on a beautiful night. Highly recommend. read more

On our way back from St. Helena we passed Charter Oak and randomly stopped in for an early dinner; plus it was my BFFs husband's birthday. We were immediately seated and our host Ruby was absolutely AMAZING!! Very personable, knowledgeable and just a kind human. You can tell she likes, I mean LOVES her job. I had the Yellow Miso salad, which was delicious!! The only critique I have is the homemade Caesar dressing was very salty. I can appreciate a homemade anything, that could use a revamp. The Burger, on the burger with the mayo and relish was so GUD!! Yep, that's all I got, get it!! My Lemon Drop Martini was great after some additional simple syrup, I mean, I like my sweetness. The Birthday guy and wife, raved about the dry buffalo wings with ranch dressing. They both spoke highly of the wings. This was a super cool place to stop for on a whim for dinner. We sat outside with the heater and it was great as it was a bit chilly. Ruth our waitress, GREAT, by the way, did I say that already offered a blanket as well. This is how you SERVR guests and be present of the moment. If ever in St. Helena or Napa Valley region we'd definitely visit again!! I am utterly obsessed with Charter Oak! Dare I say... that it's my favorite restaurant in all of St. Helena?! There are so many amazing restaurants around these parts, so it's hard to say definitively. BUT... I WILL say that Charter Oak ranks extremely high. Oh yeah... they're UP THERE bay-beh! In there like swimwear ;). Charter Oak has got it all. Scrumptious food, stunning ambience, killer cocktails, copious amounts of fine wine, aaand exquisite service! You just can't go wrong with anything that you try here. Their menu is limited but the good kind of limited. It's the kind of menu that is experimental with lifelong favorites woven in that is tried and true. Everything is farm to table and those farms are located just down the way. Love, love, looove that they are true fans of quality and freshness. With that said, I will proudly admit that this place has concocted the best beef tartare that I have ever had in my life. This coming from a gal who has tasted it in its' country of origin. Yep... Charter Oak just simply does it better. It was so damn good that I purposely planned a trip to wine country juuust to have more. The cravings that I had after my first visit here were completely insane. It was only a matter of time before I came back for more. It's the freshness, the seasoning, and those raw onions on top that I just love to mash in delight. Again, anything that you have here will be delicious. The pork jowl skewers were so tender and flavorful. The fries are thick cut and lovably chewy. The greens were such a surprise! They were seasoned for the GAWDS and I am so here for it. The Trout literally melted in my mouth. When you come here, you best to NOT skip out on dessert! That burnt caramel soft serve ice cream will make your eyes roll to be back of your head! Y'all... I'm serious. That plus the addictive beef tartare was enough to make me come back again right away. If you know me, you know my schedule is always booked up. Oooh but I made tiiiime to come back to Charter Oak! Absolutely so worth it! The cocktails are insane. They are craft and they are exquisite. Looks and taste 101. You cannot... and I mean canNOT go wrong with any cocktail in their list! Also, the bar is quite fun and an excellent option if you stop in without a reservation (but reservations are highly recommended for this busy place). If you love the wine like I do, you'll be overwhelmed by their wine selection. They have a whole ass wine cellar on the second floor with hundreds of wines to choose from and full fledged sommeliers who are ready to assist you with suggestions and pairings. Whew, this review is getting lengthy! But, let's not forget about the service! Wowza! The staff is so attentive, cordial, and professional. RUBY is a friggin' star! If she serves you, just know that you're in for a real treat. Also, the ambience is something like a dream. This place literally glows at night. The high ceilings + dark lighting + open and airy layout is just so visually yummy. I love the rusticism (is that a word?! Well, it is today!). If you come in the winter time, take a waltz through their patio and check out the Yurts! So friggin' adorbs. Okay. Sooo... if I haven't convinced you to visit yet, then there's something wrong with YOU. But seriously, Charter Oak is a gem! Had a really nice weekend lunch here. It was quite packed but lots of tables and many that are suitable for larger groups. The outdoor seating space is dreamy, secret garden-core. So stunning. The staff are friendly and personable and have more of that relaxed Cali style where it may take a bit, but you're enjoying the company to wait. The menu has a nice array of brunch and lunch items and lots of healthy, vegetarian options. The salads were calling to us and they did not disappoint! For the greens, I would order these again: + Green Goddess Salad + Yellow Miso Caesar Sides I could order again, if I'm in a veggie mood again, but the taste of both is similar so pick one or the other: + Broccolini + Asparagus For the protein: + Grilled Bavette - cooked well, loved the red chimichurri + Grilled Lingcod - never heard of this white fish before but it was delicious On the brunch menu for the sweets and carbs: + Monkey Bread - that cream cheese frosting! yum!! + Smashed breakfast potatoes - perfectly seasoned and that aioli sauce was creamy good (-) Next time, I will try that milk bread french toast though For the kids: + Chicken Tenders - very crispy, tender and a large portion. A few of our friends recommended this place so we had to try it. We got there right at happy hour and the prices were decent. Wasn't too packed but we had to sit at the bar to get happy hour prices. I highly recommend the burger! The pickle jalapeño relish made it so tasty and definitely worth the calories. My husband got the fried chicken sandwich and it wasn't our favorite. read more

Came for lunch on the weekend and sat outside with our dogs. They gave us a large table and even gave our dogs a water bowl for the hot day, which they proceeded to knock over multiple times but the waiter was so nice about it. This spot is definitely more of an upscale lunch but thought it was worth it for a special trip. We were surprised by how good all the food was and we finished everything even though we ordered quite a lot. We shared the beef tartar and Caesar salad to start with. We also got the monkey bread which had chocolate filling inside so I ended eating it more like a dessert after. We also shared the half ribs and corn on the side. The half ribs was actually a bigger portion than I expected and great for sharing with two people. Definitely be prepared to spend up fkr this spot but worth it if you're looking for some place special read more

I came here for dinner and loved their sunchoke tostones, chips and dip, cheeseburger, and pork jowl skewer. We ended up ordering too much food and was so full. We didn't realize how big the pork jowl skewer was going to be. I didn't like the apple sauce it came with. The bavette was good too but I preferred the other dishes instead. The chocolate birthday cookies they gave tasted so dry and did not taste good. Service was great. We would come back here again for sure. read more

My family celebrated at Charter Oak yesterday, and we reserved one of the fabulous yurts. The thing about the yurts is that no one wants to leave them, and after waiting 30 minutes beyond our reservation time Alec came to the rescue. He explained the issue very graciously, and then proceeded to go out of his way to make amends. Once seated Brooke was our server and she too apologized for the delay and preceded to make us feel welcomed and appreciated. What could have been a disappointing experience because fabulous because of Alec, Brooke and the entire Charter Oak team. We will return, and I am pleased to share this 5 star review read more

Hubby and I decided to take a little road trip for the day to Napa. We happened to fall upon this restaurant and decided to stop for a drink and a snack. The exterior of the restaurant is gorgeous. We were met by a kind host outside as we walked into tue vourt yard.. We did not have reservations but had the opportunity to wait about 45 minutes for an inside table or could choose to sit at the bar immediately. We chose the bar seating since we only wanted drinks and appetizers and happy we did. Jack was our bartender yesterday (2/21/26). He was so attentive and efficient, he was fun to watch while we sipped our cocktails and enjoyed our snacks. Shortly after we arrived the restaurant got slammed with the lunch rush. Jack orchestrated the bar by himself with ease to sever not only the tableS that ordered cocktails and wine but also all who were seated at the bar for not only drinks but food too. He was friendly and personable and never showed an ounce of stress. It was magical to watch. While seated, we enjoyed watching the food at the beautiful indoor grill being prepared and the plates going out to the guests, each plate being prepared with care. On to our food and drinks. Simple, yet delicious. As noted, only came for a little snack so we ordered the Deviled Eggs and a side of French Fries as well as wine and cocktails. The Deviled Eggs were a hit, perfectly cooked with a a great filling and the topping had an amazing umami flavor I can not describe other than delicious. The French Fries were cooked perfectly, crunchy out side with a creamy center and perfectly salted with a side of ketchup. As for the beverages, hubby enjoy few glasses of hous wine and I a vodka cocktail. I told Jack I was in the mood for a Vodka drink, he asked what my normal was, I told him but also stated I was in the mood for fruity, he said, "I got you".... and he did. Outcome this beautiful delicious hand crafted cocktail that I throughly enjoyed.....thanks, Jack! Our experience was great, I am happy we stopped in and was able to experience this beautiful restaurant where we had great service, drinks and snacks. I debated between 1 and 2 stars so really about 1.5. I'm honestly surprised by the amount of great reviews which is what got us to try something new in the area and go here. First, the one star is for the ambience. The place and the courtyard were truly cute. Unfortunately getting seated took awhile and when we were seated we were put at a table with the sun on us despite the umbrellas around. The wine list I didn't find enticing and honestly marked up like crazy. I did hear that there is no corkage fee and we should have brought something of our own but we wanted to experience everything. The rose bubbles we did end purchasing was not good. We finished it but didn't even bother wanting to get another bottle of something (which we normally would have done as a group). Next, if you are a vegetarian I would avoid this restaurant. There is barely anything you can eat and when they put fish sauce things like relish, you really have to avoid a lot. I am allergic to fish sauce and the two only salads they have both had fish ingredients and I thought I was being safe by ordering the burger. Thankfully our waiter was on top of things and let me know there was fish sauce in the jalapeno relish (seriously why?!?!?). My parents and sister ordered the caviar dip and said that the caviar should really be separate with the cream on the side and that it wasn't worth the price they paid for it. The crab dip was very crabby. My sister and mom ordered the pork and said it was dry and lacked flavor. Our waiter was helpful when he came by but overall the service was slow and I think he was stretched thin. I hear this is a local place and honestly surprised by that. Had an unforgettable dinner at The Charter Oak on a beautiful Napa evening. We sat outside, and the setting was absolutely perfect -- peaceful, charming, and surrounded by nature. We started with the charter oak bread, which came out warm and was incredibly delicious -- crusty on the outside, soft on the inside, the kind of bread that makes you want to order a second round. For the main course, we shared the tomahawk steak cooked medium rare, and it was exceptional. Perfectly cooked, juicy, and flavorful. It came with a grilled lemon, which I hesitated to try at first -- but squeezing it over the steak was a 100% life-changing move. The acidity brought out the richness of the meat in the most unexpected, incredible way. The fries were totally unique -- not your average fries. Crisp, golden, and served with a sauce that elevated them to next-level status. A perfect complement to the steak. To drink, I had the Parfait Vor cocktail -- light, well-balanced, and refreshing. A great pairing for the meal. Everything from the atmosphere to the food to the service made this a standout Napa dining experience. Would return in a heartbeat. read more

It's always a pleasure visiting Charter Oak. Upon arrival we were quickly seated in the outdoor area. The lighting is always great for brunch and pictures. We can't get enough of the greenery. Food was also exception. We ordered the cheeseburger with fries. Be warned, if you enjoy the smaller, thinner and crispier cut fries, these may be a hit or miss for you. We found that 95% of the fries were crispy, slight crunch on the outside and soft and fluffy on the inside. The burger was also juicy as evident by the picture. We also ordered the Caesar salad which was really tasty and got our stomach ready for the heavier cheeseburger. The deviled eggs were just alright. I'm more accustomed to the mayonnaise based type of deviled eggs. These are seasoned and have nuts on them. While good, they weren't for me. Lastly we ordered a mimosa, aperol spritz and a Hugo spritz. All 10/10! read more

I do believe that have a 12 and under menu but no kids discount on regular menu items.

I highly recommend making reservations anywhere in Napa Valley. If you don't, you'll probably have to wait for a table depending on the date/time
What's the yurt situation?
Hi, our yurts are seasonal, and have been taken down for the year. They will be back next winter. Please let us know if you have any other questions!
