My girlfriend and I had a date night out here on 11/26/2024. It was our second time. The first time, we did takeout; this time, we decided to dine in because we liked the kind of ambiance. It doesn't feel uptight but is mellow and warm. We ordered a couple of appetizers (pig ears & corn croquettes) and shared a couple of entrees (lamb pappardelle and the G&G burger). We both enjoyed all of our food. My favorite was the pig ears. They have an extremely long wine list with wine from all of the world. I ordered a local Sauvignon Blanc by the glass (from Charles Krug Winery). I liked it and thought it was priced right/reasonably. The service was friendly and professional. We mentioned we would share the entrees, and they cut the burger in half for us (without being asked) A turn off, I have to say, was that our waiter spoke too loud almost to the extend that it killed the atmosphere. Oh my gosh! What can I say about this place? 1st parking isn't readily available, I don't think as this time we went during night time; however, circling around to find parking, I could smell the yummy goodness. Hubby ended up dropping me and my son off since I was wearing heals and it was off/on raining. He ate half up as he wanted to save room for dessert. My husband ate all his burger up. My steak was cooked to perfection but I was only able to eat half, as I too wanted to save room for dessert. For dessert we had chocolate mousse cake and apple galette then asked what dessert wine would go with the apple and Hugo recommended GL dolce which was so on point and totally enhanced the apple. As we were about to leave, the manager came over to check on us as well as wish me a happy birthday. I had heard that Goose & Gander was where the locals hang out which is exactly why my husband and I visited. We stopped in for an evening drink and sat off the back entrance. We loved the intimate seating, fully stocked bar, and staff hospitality. After seeing the menu, I chose to order the Fig & Fire and my husband the Rosemary-Pear Rhubarb. When I say my mezcal drink blew me away, it doesn't begin to tell you how much I enjoyed it. As a big fan of mezcal cocktails, it's hard to try something new and still feel astonished; this did just that. I also loved the duck fat fries and my husband enjoyed his gin drink. I've been here pre pandemic and one thing that stayed with me were their delicious duck fat fries. So at last my intentionally make my way back to Saint Helena for my duck fat fries. The service was great, we came in on a Friday evening with no ressies and were seated promptly. I was extremely underwhelmed by the food. I had a burger, asked for medium, it came out rare. I ordered a simple Cadillac margarita. The first time it came out and it taste like nothing but lime juice, the second time it was really strange. So needless to say I left with no margarita a rare burger, and the duck fat fries weren't as good as they were or at least the way I previously remembered them. Overall, we sat downstairs. It was a cool dinner. There were some hiccups, by the time we left there was an odor coming from the bathroom, it seemed like a plumbing situation was going on. Is it worth going to if you're local? On a rainy Saturday night, my hubby and I braved highway 29 to try Goose and Gander. With no reservations for dinner, I figured maybe the bar would be open. To my surprise, this place is popping at 545pm. Luckily, there was a party just about ready to leave. I am not a big fan of dinner at the bar, but this is the only option we have and with Themis place so popular... what the heck. So here goes. Our waiter is Nicholas, he took awhile to get drinks but we were not in a hurry. He was pleasant and made a few recommendations. Most of what we ordered were delicious, my husband had a burger which was not on their menu and he absolutely loves it. I had the pork katsu which was good but I won't order it next time. We decided to try the sticky pig ears appetizer, which was described as "kind of like candied bacon". I get the appeal, but it really didn't work for us. We were surprised and grateful to find that they took it off of our bill! My wife had the wood grilled chicken breast with blistered greens & black truffle chicken jus, a very good entree! My short rib pasta was disappointing - for $32 we expected a chunk of short rib but there were only a few small pieces in the sauce, good flavor but lacking substance. I'd recommend they rethink this dish. For dessert we split a Meyer lemon tart which we both loved. On our bill we discovered an unannounced 4% "employee benefit" fee. This deceptive practice cost them a star, and it must stop! Blindsiding your customers with a hidden fee is not ok. We we'll not return until they put a stop to it. read more

This is a lovely, moody spot to grab dinner and drinks. Downstairs is a speakeasy-type space with a bar, music, and full service if you want a cozier space. My friend and I got the chicken wings with garlic aioli to start and they were light and crispy yet juicy and tender. You have the option of getting it wet or dry. We were going to go with dry but our server recommended we get both of the sauces on the side. It came with a garlic aoli sauce (which could've been more garlicky) and a sweet chili sauce. Both paired well with the fried chicken! The lamb sugo pappardelle was my favorite dish! The pasta was freshly made and soaked up all the yummy sauce. The lamb was extremely tender and flavorful! The duck fat fries had a richer flavor than regular fries. They were also crispier. A great addition to our meal! Came here for a quick bite one evening long ago while wine tasting in St Helena before driving back home and enjoyed the bar bites, so I booked a dinner reservation recently to take my mother-in-law while she was in town. It was relatively easy to get a reservation. They have indoor and outdoor seating which are very different vibes. Outdoor looked nice for when the weather is good! Indoor had standard seating upstairs and downstairs was more speakeasy bar style seating. I booked indoor originally since I didn't know how the weather would be so we considered switching when we got there, but outdoor was unfortunately full by then. We settled down at our table upstairs and were promptly served. Great cocktail menu and wine list, and plenty of menu options that could accommodate gluten restrictions as well! We got a few appetizers and entrees to share and enjoyed every one of them. My highlights were the blistered shishitos with vegan aioli, the NY strip steak with pepper chimichurri, and salmon with succotash. While I would've preferred the shishitos to be blistered a little more, the proteins were cooked well; the salmon was so tender, not overcooked, and the steak came exactly how we asked. Service was nice, accommodating, and quick! I'll definitely keep this restaurant on my personal roaring while I'm wine country. read more

Wow! Had an amazing dinner here! Our big group was seated in the patio section, and even though it's December, we stayed plenty toasty with all the heaters! On to the food! For starters, we shared the fried olives, corn croquettes, and the charcuterie board! Everything was tasty, especially the baguette on the charcuterie board. It had this smoky flavor that was super delicious! As far as my main course, I went for the ribeye! Man, it was AMAZING! 30-day aged with demi-glace, this steak was perfection! It's been a little while since I treated myself to a nice steak, and wow, I was not disappointed! As a side, I had the duck fat fries, which were pretty good as well. Lastly, I washed down my meal with the house made hazy lager (I'm forgetting the name), which was very tasty as well. As far as service goes, it was excellent! My wife and our four friends took a wonderful wine trip to Napa Valley last weekend, and sampled some of the area's best wines, best eats, and most incredible experiences. But to be honest, none of them came close to my experience at Goose & Gander. Holy moly this place was an absolute delight! And it was really easy to find a parking spot next to the place. We got a nice corner booth in one of the most beautifully decorated dining rooms I have ever seen. I started the night with a delicious Pimm's Cup. It was flavorful and refreshing. Sometimes you order a Pimm's Cup and it's watered down (no thank you). Not the case here! The table decided to share a bunch of appetizers including the duck fat fries, the mushroom soup, mac & cheese, and sautéed mushrooms. They were all sooooo good but I think I liked the soup best. For the main course I decided to go with the meatloaf, which was a daily special. I hadn't had meatloaf in a while, and I love it so I decided to give it a go! The sauce on top was unbelievably tangy and delicious, and the meatloaf was moist as heck, and very delicious. I think it was made with wagyu beef if i'm not mistaken. Went to goose and gander for some beers. I saw that they had Hanabi lager here so I wanted to come here just for that. The bar itself was pretty sweet and neat. The bartender was cutting up ice for drinks so you know a cocktail hair would be phenomenal. The logger itself I had was really good however I've had other good ones as well so I'm glad I did not Spend 300 to buy it at the brewery itself. Got an order of fries just a snack on and it was OK. Not sure why Open table will not let me review since our reservation was under Open Table?? At any rate, the fillet had no flavor and after asking for medium on the cook, it was well done. Great location, good food, good services. Both times I've gone, the burger has been amazing, but the fish was just good. I struggle a little with the menu because nothing jumps out at me, so I order something "safe." The fried shrimp starter was really good, a little spicy. The snapper was good, but it felt very heavy, which is the opposite of what I'd want from a fish entree. The burger is really just so good. It's also pretty big, so you have to be committed. The sauce makes it, and we added the duck egg (pretty sure it was duck). That with the fries....delish. Cocktails are good, the wine list looks good. The blondie dessert was good, but I'd definitely share. We've eaten inside and once outside. It's really pretty outside, and the weather was perfect, but there were mosquitos out biting in full force. I think I prefer indoors. It's definitely a different vibe. I really like the bar downstairs, too. Overall I'd probably give it 4.3 stars, but I'd rather give them a 5 than a 4. I came here to celebrate my birthday and Goose and Gander made it special. Some of the menu items are pretty safe and basic. The New York steak was good but I've had better in Napa. The mushroom toast wasn't very special, it just tasted like mushrooms on toast. The mashed potatoes are a great go to and comfort food, but they were very basic and nothing special. The humming bird cake was moist and one of the best birthday desserts I've been given. I was hoping they still had the churros on the menu but sadly they do not make them anymore. The food at goose and gander didn't really impress me. Maybe I ordered safely but my meal didn't leave me wanting to come back for more. The best thing from this restaurant was the mixed drinks! The Less is More cocktail and the Lost at Sea cocktail were unique and impressive. I'd come back for the drinks. Love the ambiance of this place inside and out! I ate dinner here on Friday 8/2/24. First of all, Superb service all around. The manager met us at the door and gave us a tour of the whole property which was very kind. He setup a table for us outside and gave us a quick story of the place. While my buddy was blocking an access route, I saw a waitress patiently wait on him to recognize her and to get out of the way. We went back into the bar where another smiling waitress held the door open for us and greeted us . The bartender welcomed us to a table while another server came over to give us a few ideas on an order. In short, best service and culture that I have experienced anywhere post-Covid. There is reduced menu starting at nine but still plenty good choices and everything was delicious. Burger came out nice and pink inside, just like we asked. Also, the downstairs bar level with fireplace was super cozy. This just might be our new favorite spot for late dinners.
