Our orders included salmon, scallops, beef tenderloin and steak. We also ordered the jumbo shrimp appetizer and Caesar salad. Everything was absolutely delicious!! One person mentioned there was no bread. Apparently bread isn't served. We had desserts. We ordered crème brûlée , coffee ice cream and mango sorbet. No complaints from anyone. Yes the food is special. Wednesday evening we arrived 5:45 and left at 8:00. We were not rushed at all. It was a very special and relaxing evening . We like to support city establishments and although we lived once in the neighborhood we'd never eaten at Rooneys.

They opened the outdoor patio for folks to enjoy dinner and a beverage/ cocktail. It's confortable and relaxing. The wood burning fireplace is beautiful. We waited 12-15 minutes for the waitress to take our drink order; we ordered our meals at the same time. The drinks came promptly. The food did not. 35 minutes went by. Parties came in, ate and left and still no food served. When I inquired the waitress said the kitchen made an error and it was not her fault. I said our choice is to leave if food cannot be served. (We saw other parties get the same food we ordered so it was not a shortage or lack of chef.) As we were leaving without eating, the head waitress asked what was happening - voila the food was ready, not totally correct or hot but it was served. Our waitress was attentive after we got our food and she brought our bill quickly. What went wrong: (1) We waited to order even as other customers arrived and their order taken ell before ours. (2) Our waitress did not check on us for 30 minutes. (3) Our food arrived at the table 40 minutes after being ordered. (4) The waitress did not take ownership of the problem. She deflected, made no attempts to correct, and needed the head waitress to step in. (5) Common condiments (butter for vegetables, sour cream for quesadillas) were not served. What went right: (1) Drinks arrived quickly. (2) Take out box arrived in a timely fashion (3) Our bill was delivered and processed quickly. We have options. It is unlikely we will be back. Everything we found interesting on the menu is no longer available.

I also was a bit late in getting a reservation so I was lucky to get one there. Our reservation was at seven and we were seated within five minutes after chatting a bit with the bartender who is really friendly. We had a booth to ourselves in the main dining area. There's also a smaller side room with two person booths. They had a great selection of beer so I ordered a hazy IPA as usual. It took a while for us to figure out what to order because this menu is huge! I shared some pictures of the menu and the special sheet. We ordered the Italian calamari as an appetizer. It was very good, with banana peppers, and olives, and an Italian dressing on it. Also, the bread they gave you was really great! They have a woodfired pizza oven, which is massive by the way. You can see it from the main dining room. My wife ordered a medium veggie pizza. It was very tasty, I tried a few bites myself. Not as crispy on the bottom as I'd like, but with a veggie pizza you're fighting a losing battle I know. All those veggies have a lot of water in them so making a crisp crust is tough. I ordered the Chicken Riggies - which I will be honest. I think it's the first time I've ever ordered it! It's rigatoni with breaded chicken pieces and lots of green, red and spicy peppers. They said they could make it as spicy hot as you wanted. I ordered it medium and it was medium, which is fine. I've tried it at some restaurants in the Utica area and it comes out so fiery hot that I can't even hardly eat it. You can always add heat you can't take it away! It was really good though. We both took half our meal home so we had dinner the next night too. I will say that the prices at Charlotte Tavern are very reasonable and the food selection is awesome. We will definitely have to come back! The atmosphere of the place is really cool too. It's been around since 1873 and they have old pictures of Charlotte landmarks adorning the walls. Our server was great too - I forgot her name but she was the owner's daughter and she did a great job. She apologized a few times that the food was taking a little while, but we realized on Valentine's Day places are busy. I guess they had a lot of takeout orders so people must know the food's great and if they can't get a reservation, they just order it to go. Which is not a bad idea by the way. We will definitely make this restaurant one that we go to regularly.
