Yeah I'm hooked. This place is so amazing. The service is some of the best and most accommodating in the Fox Valley and Mark the owner is a machine, I swear. I gladly recommend this place to those looking for a good lunch, a good dinner, or a good drink. The Reuben sandwich is something I will dream about. Unfortunately it is a 20 min. drive from our house one way, but we will make the trip as often as our schedules allow. read more

OMGosh!!! I'm not necessarily a salad person but some friends lifted me some Marks Eastside Bacon Salad Dressing and oh my gosh!!! I got some baby spinach, sliced some onion, added a hard boiled egg and topped it off with Mark's Bacon Dressing! Best Salad I've ever had in my life!!! It's gone and I live in Las Vegas. I'm sad to rate this one star as the food has always been exceptional..BUT I, and many others, have repeatedly asked for the light bulb lighting the entrance to be replaced. Last week when we ate there again I asked the hostess again to please relay the message about the unsafe lighting. Her reply was "we give the owner this message frequently but nothing changes". The owners lack of concern about his customers safety doesn't seem to be due to financial issues, as his business is booming. Apparently he just doesn't give a hoot about our safety. Food is always delicious and they add new things to the menu to try. They always put the customer first. We were there before Christmas and they offered some seasonal alcoholic and nonalcoholic drinks. We both tried one and they were impressive. What a great place! We had been meaning to come for our first visit over the past several months. I was not sure if they took reservations and emailed the restaurant. Mark responded right away (super fast) and confirmed that they take reservations every day except Friday (which other Yelp reviewers said Friday is THE busiest night for dining). We came tonight (Wednesday) and started with drinks at the spacious bar served by Cassandra and Clinton. The Old Fashioned was superb and the German Manhattan was a novel bit of goodness. Everyone at the bar was friendly and welcoming. We relaxed over drinks (2 rounds) and then headed into the main dining room for dinner. Sheri was our server and she suggested the appetizer of German sausage sampler and a complimentary tasting treat of the sauerkraut balls. The sausage platter came with three types of cooked wurst with carmelized onions, crostini, and German mustard. All the flavors were spot on. The fried sauerkraut balls with sauce must be a Mark's specialty--tasty and fun. For entrees we ordered the Tenderloin Stroganoff and the Kasseler Rippchen (juicy smoked grilled pork chops) along with delicious red cabbage and a split of spaetzle and dumplings. The portions were so abundant that we had to take some home. The service was impeccable and attentive despite a large crowd (almost every table was filled). Every dish was a wonderful blend of flavors. We will definitely return with other friends for another fun evening. Friday night.... menu changes to a fish fry plus a limited number of entries available. A group of six of us went, one getting the fish fry and it wasn't bad. There are for sure better fish fry options in the area. I had the ribeye which was cooked and seasoned very well. We also have had the schnitzel here. It's not that great to be honest. The drinks are on point. I honestly think looking back at our night that the wait was the best part, because the drinks were great. The main courses were mediocre. Enjoyed some sauerkraut balls which were good. There also was the German potato salad and the hot bacon dressing which were both AWESOME. This place does a few things very well, but comes up short on the main course delivery. Wait times can be excessive. They have no problem if you show up in person and put your name on the list. However you can't call ahead or make a reservation. So I drove up and got a number. 1.5 hour wait time. Went back home and picked up my family and went back and had drinks. Probably won't go back for food, much better places to eat in the area. Would 100% go back for drinks. An honest 3.5 star rating rounded up to 4 for the bacon dressing! read more

Had a wonderful experience at Mark's East Side! Our waitress was so friendly and made our dining even more enjoyable. We told her it was our first time and she gave us a free sample of the sauerkraut ball appetizer and at the end gave us a $10 gift certificate for our next visit! Along with the kraut balls, we had a Scotch Egg as an appetizer. Very interesting'. It's an egg wrapped. In bacon, deep fried and served with kraut and mustard. Definitely worth a try! Clam chowder was full of clams and quite tasty, and the steaks melted in your mouth. Didn't have room for desert but we had some anyway! Shared a Jack Daniels Pecan Pie. Very sweet, but the whiskey flavor and the vanilla bean ice cream fit very well. I did find it interesting that the theme of the restaurant was Irish, but many of the meals seemed to be German based. Very spotty experience for my wife and I. Sat in bar and got the haystack onions, which were great. Server in the bar area was also great. Unfortunately, we moved into the restaurant. Waited quite a while for our server and it pertained of things to come. Ordered the Friday fish fry which is haddock. Came out warm but not hot and every piece was somewhat dry and rubbery. Fries were good as was the Cole slaw, once our food came, we didn't see our server again until I had to ask her for the check. I'll try somewhere else next time. read more

This is by far my favorite place for a fish fry. We lived in the area for 4 years before moving back to Texas, but visited here often. The bar area is a nice size and they make some stout drinks. The brandy-old fashioned with cherries is great. The perch is perfectly breaded and has excellent flavor. The German potato salad is my favorite side. The staff is super attentive and friendly. I was pleasantly surprised by Marks East Side. The food quality and portions were very good and well priced. I opted for the Schweineschnitzel which was cooked very well and got Spaetzel which was done just right. Often times I find it over cooked but Mark's East Side really did it well. The red cabbage was a bit sweet but it was still good. I enjoyed their French Onion Soup although it was a few grains saltier than I would have liked. It was too bad they didn't have Spezi but it can be hard to find. Overall, I wouldn't say this reminded me of when I lived in Germany, but the food and service were very good! read more

This place is a cool, eclectic, established family restaurant. It is a classy dining establishment that is both casual and old school elegant. Started with the sausage sampler for an appetizer. French onion soup and the wedge were served perfectly. Mark is an excellent chef and has an awesome menu with a German flair. The Filet Mignon is the very best beef I have had in my life. Aged 21 days, corn fed, Wisconsin steak! Cooked to medium rare perfection, and very tender. Onion rings on the side and a nice bottle of cab. Niki and Liz is are excellent servers and will take great care of you. She suggested the onion rings as I'm on the low carb diet, and they were delicious. Unfortunately we did not try the dessert due to that stupid diet. If you're at Oshkosh or visiting this part of the country - do not miss this place!! read more
