I requested for an oil change and was quoted $65 and discount of $10 with coupon. Upon picking up, I was told to pay $70 even. I start to question the details but was not given a paper copy to clarify but rather verbally explaining to me about the breakdown of costs that did not add up. Owner said that my Nissan Pathfinder needed more than 5-quart of oil, which is not true. He claimed that $65 quote was just an estimate on my car model, and nothing can be certain until they start to fill the oil. What I don't understand is how can a repair car expert claimed to have 45 years of experience but yet uncertain on the volume of motor oil needed for Nissan Pathfinder. I've changed my own oil and also brought to other repair shops, but never once that I needed or was told that the Nissan Pathfinder needed more than 5 quarts of motor oil. Upon questioning more, the owner gets impatient and started to yell. When I'm about to pay with dissatisfaction, owner pull my key fob aside and insisting that I pay in cash. I protested and commented that the shop clearly showed the acceptance of credit card. The owner told me that he was making me to pay in cash because of my attitude. Not sure why a customer dissatisfaction can be claimed as bad attitude. He simply told me that "now I have your car, what are you going to do about it?" I insisted that credit card is the only form I will pay him. After he ran my credit card, and I get my receipt, I complained that this shop is running a dishonest business and will share my bad experience with all the people I've known. This triggered the owner going ballistic and started yelling again. He even charged towards me and holding on both my arms demanding me to get out. I told him to get his hands off me and not touch me at all. He threatened to call the police on me, which I dared him to do so by questioning what violations have I committed. He kept yelling and told me to get out. When one is caught not being able to explain the unreasonable charges, this person would believe that raising his voice and yelling can somehow justify his dishonesty demeanor. Strongly advise against going to this shop at all costs.

This has been my experience at all their locations. Most recently, I was heading back to Wisconsin for a family wedding. Long story short- I had car issues and Nelson's was the first call I made. They told me to bring it by and looked at it immediately. They were so kind, quick to act, and empathetic--I truly felt seen and valued. They helped me learn what I needed to do, and worked with me to get the job done right. I had to come for a follow up, and they took care of me again with such kindness, efficiency, and care. Cannot recommend enough!

Obviously, as a father, the idea of her being stranded or being vulnerable in a compromising situation weighed heavy on my mind. As I clutched my wallet not knowing how outrageous chasing an electrical gremlin in the vehicle could cost, I told her to get it in right away. After all, winter is coming. She took the car in per the scheduled time, and popped the hood. Presumably a little later they came out and informed her that her issue was quite simple and taken care of. Her battery cables were loose. She went to settle the bill and they said there was no charge. She called me, and told me what the result was, and despite our insistence to pay the shop for their time and consideration, the refused payment and wished her well. This isn't an advocation or review of how to get free work, because no one would be more deserving of some form of payment than here. For the peace of mind and increased safety for my daughter when she is beyond my range of protection or immediate rescue; this was a sigh of relief that she is at a quality establishment, in a quality neighborhood, with a reputation that deserves the highest marks. It's a weird name in that they work on Toyota, Honda, Lexus, etc., as well as American carmakers such as Ford. 100% approve!

Short version: Don't come here unless you want to pay 35-50% of your battery cost when replacing it…read moreunder full warranty. Following the recommendation of a family member, I came here to get my CR-V's battery replaced in early 2021. The battery failed a year and a half later, and I came back in to get it replaced as it was still under warranty. The employee I talked to was willing to replace it, but said he would charge me $75 in labor (over 1/3 of the full cost of the 3-year-warranty-battery itself). The employee then offered to "cut me a break" on the labor cost since it was a situation where the battery they had sold me had failed and was still covered by warranty. Turns out the "cutting me a break" ended up consisting of taking just 10 bucks off the bill after the service was rendered, ultimately forcing me to pay 1/3 of the battery's cost to replace it despite it being under warranty. Had I brought in a car where the battery replacement was more complicated and time-consuming, the situation would have felt much less underhanded. However, since it takes about 5-10 minutes (max) to replace a CRV battery, and given that this was a situation where the battery they had initially sold me had failed while under warranty, the whole exchange felt like a ripoff. I tried to talk about this to the employee, but he tersely told me that the battery failing was "not his fault." I cannot speak to this establishment's integrity with regard to performing and charging for other auto services, but I would strongly advise anyone who simply needs a battery change to go to one of the many other places in the Twin Cities where installation is free with purchase/replaced for free when the product fails while under full warranty.
