I was trying to kill an hour and stopped by this store on a Sunday afternoon. I was VERY IMPRESSED how clean and organized this Marshalls was, especially for a Sunday afternoon. The store was busy but the attendants had the 'clean up' down pat. Being it's in between seasons right now, their clearance racks for summer dresses were off the hook (ranging from $10-12) and I grabbed me some great summer dresses. Their shoe department was all well organized and also had a wide selection of shoe sizes (which me and my size 9 1/2 appreciate!). There was only 2 people in front of me in line, which was another surprise being that most Marshalls I have to wait about 20 minutes just to check out. I walked out with two bags full of clothes for $140. Can't beat that! read more

Compared to the Marshall's in San Leandro, this one is definitely a plus. They often change their merchandise which shows that their staff is probably attentive to their needs of the customer. (I found this out because I came back later in the week to return something). They are organized well and I adore all their stuff in the kitchen/ home area. Lots of cute stuff for apartments. Also, they have racks of designers bags and dresses. CUTE ONES. I especially praise them with their dressing rooms. I am so sick of dressing rooms that are on their last limbs. But, fear no more. Emeryville's Marshalls have fixed this issue. Their dressing room is equipped with a giant hook thing that allows for your clothes. Whoever designed that should get a raise because we all know how annoying it gets when your clothes are flying everywhere. read more

In desperate need of a "you want to hire me" button-down, interview savvy shirt I decided to quickly swing by Marshalls (instead of Ross-hell) to see if I could find anything. I didn't have high expectations, but thought I'd give em a chance since they are close to home. I was immediately impressed with the layout, cleanliness, organization and spaciousness of the store. There is enough room to walk between the racks of clothes without smashing into someone. A GUESS leather jacket? Double-take. Cute jeans! Nice turtleneck cashmere sweater! Stay focused... only on the hunt for interview savvy shirt... I quickly picked out 4 shirts and headed to the dressing room. Shoes! Roget Rabbit eyeballs...Lots of pretty, pretty shoes!! NO...dressing room... The dressing room, with it's private bathroom, no co-ed crap, was the best I've ever seen for a department such as Marshalls. Large, well-lit rooms with labeled hooks (definitely, maybe, no) to help you organize your selections... love it! Also a rack for shoes and bench for your belongings. I didn't find my interview savvy shirt, but I'll be back for some mindless, girly shopping... looks like I could have fun in here, with minimal damage. read more

If you catch deals and sales at the right time; this store can be one of the greatest places to shop, but the only problem is; many of the items in stock are usually repetitive or less than fashionable. I usually stop by here whenever I'm in Emeryville to see if I can add to my shoe collection, but 9 times out of 10; I leave empty handed. The selection of men's shoes are very weak here, no one with any fashion sense would be caught in Crocs or Top Siders in their daily life. Pretty solid for a discount store. Merchandise can be a hit or a miss: sometimes I end up finding one pair of pants, other times I end up with several articles of clothing. It's funny when people bitch about poor customer service. All customers generally are supposed to do is come in and buy things, not make friends with staff. What sort of poor customer service can one possibly get in a 30-second interaction at the register? That said, I've never had a problem with the service here, always greeted, smiles. Whatever. I mean come on, it's Marshalls. Not the God damn Four Seasons. Their prices are great. Generally speaking, everything is between $7 and $15. Just to draw a comparison, Ross is often disorganized, chaotic, dirty, and it's not necessarily that customer service sucks there, but rather it's a bit aggressive. read more

BEWARE OF MARSHALLS FALSE ADVERTISING and encouragement to open a TJX credit card. Their posters blare "enjoy 10% off today when you open a TJX rewards credit card." The sales people, too, encourage you to sign up to get that supposedly instant discount. However, they interpret "open" as being approved -- which isn't done the same day you apply. That process takes 1-2 weeks. A teeny-weeny, almost illegible note at the bottom mentions approval needed. So NO ONE can possibly get that 10% off "today," the day you sign up!!! That's a RIP OFF! Other stores do honor sign up discounts. Shop at those! read more

It's a Marshalls, although it look more like a TJ-Maxx to me. The area is hopelessly busy, so really not my favorite place to go. I am a huge shopper at marshalls and tjmaxx and love most of their locations. But this one needs to be more presentable...... I arrived in thinking of my usual check out the shoes and purses then the clothes but because it was messy and dirty looking I think not! I found myself picking up the clothes on the floor and hanging them it was that messy..... I respect the employees who countlessly pick up all the crap on the floor but when customers are lazy and don't even hang back the clothes on the rack geez man, be kind and pick up after yourself; it's common courtesy! I was toying with a 3 or 4... I am feeling generous so I will go with a 4 :) I love Marshalls, and all stores like it. This particular store is impressive. The few times I have been in it, things have been really neat. There are not items lying on the floor, and for the most part, things are where they belong. It is bright and I have never seen it super packed. The complaint I have about it (and why I would have gone with a 3 star) is that it seems a little small, and the selection of items could be larger. I feel like of all the Marshall's I have been to, this one had the least amount of items. That being said, I will definitely keep coming back here to look for an awesome bargain. read more

You can certainly see the change in this store while it's been open for almost a year now. Still, they get a good selection of Kitchen knives that I like, and some cool "Chef'n" gadgets for half the price they sell at WilliamsSonoma for. Staff pretty much leave you be, and no matter how long the check out line is it always seems to move pretty fast. I was there today and bought a muffin tray and i think i got a pretty good deal on it. They even had a coach purse there, something i wouldn't buy, but was surprised to see. The service could have been a lot better. when i got up to the front of the line, the lady at the counter told me to put my stuff there and she said she would be back real soon. she never came back. i ended up waiting at the counter, then eventually moved down to a different counter. Arrived three minutes before closing this Sunday evening (7:57 pm) and was told, before I could enter the store, "We are closed." I explained that I needed to make a quick return with product, receipt, and credit card in hand. I was told again, "We are closed." I explained that as a customer I had two to three minutes left to enter the store, given that it closed at 8:00 pm. Again, they stated, "We are closed." Though short, this interaction was extremely upsetting, and it was immediately clear to me that these employees cared more about their own time rather than their own customers' satisfaction. Receipt #91094070328156653 Today, I purchased some active wear suits at Marshalls in Emeryville, Ca. One of my active wear suits had a price of $14.99 and the other 4 had a price of $16.99. I asked the manager would she honor the price of $14.99 for all the suits for the suits and she just said NO! I was a lillte upset because all the suits are the same brand name and style. Usually I never run into issues at a retail store with their employees but I just had the worst one at this Marshall location. She may just be an angry person with not so pleasant life but my question is where was the training from the management. Manager couldn't even have a normal conversation with that employee because she was out of control. They don't have to care about the customers nor go out of your way to be friendly but I'm sure they don't train their employees to get into customers face or scream at their face. What an unpleasant experience. I'm pretty sure they don't care about one person's business but in a long run, hopefully that matters and adds up. Will not be returning to this Marshall. I had a disturbing encounter tonight at Marshalls. Two kids walked in after close said they were waiting for someone and the manager (I think) asked who to which they didn't answer. They just stood a few feet away from the door inside and bickered to themselves staring at their phones. It was extremely odd and I started to get scared. Meanwhile the "security" man stood there USELESS. How did they even get in?! He is supposed to lock the door I would hope and monitor the area. The manager asked them again what they were doing and then proceeded to ask them to please leave the store. They continued with odd behavior. She eventually was more adamant and stood up to them and honestly was like a hero. ( Security still immobile. I'm still perplexed as I write this at what could've been. read more

I shopped at the Emeryville, CA location on Friday, March 19th around 3pm. I purchased a decorative pillow that had a reg tag sale label if $10.00. I grabbed the matching pillow but it had a different price of $16.99 than the other showing on sale. I got to the register and the cashier did a price check to ensure that both pillows were on sale. The cashier says in the system both pillows are $16.99 versus the red tag which labeled one as $10.00. I asked that the red tag label of $10.00 be honored since that is what the price tag shows when I grabbed the pillow. I asked to speak with the Manager because it is only fair to the customer that the price on the tag be honored. The manager - Paul was flippant and very rude about honoring the sale price of $10.00 listed on the tag. Instead, he says gave a million excuses as to why the tag was incorrect and that obviously an employee had marked it by mistake. I explained that, that is NoT my fault. I am a customer and had no way of knowing that. I explained that in all fairness he should still honor the sale price on the tag, otherwise that is false advertisement! Thinking that he would be considerate of the customer, I was shocked of Paul's attitude as he firmly stated he would NOT honor the sale price of the item and stated "that's not going to happen." He rolled his eyes and stated, " You will be charged for what is showing up in the system $16.99. I insisted that he honor the price shown on the tag. But no - Manager Paul rudely declined and repeated stated someone on the floor placed the wrong tag on the item. I asked the name of his boss (the regional manager) to further escalate. Paul would not give the name. I asked for his or her contact info. Paul said "I'm not giving you his name and he is on vacation!" Instead, Paul wrote down a number, quickly handed me the piece of paper and said "this is customer service call them!" The number he wrote was a non-working number. Instead I had to research the correct number which was completely off from which he gave me, to report him! That said, the Manager Paul at Marshall's in Emeryville, CA is rude, lacks integrity and is NOT dedicated to customer satisfaction! His attitude is poor and he IS being reported! read more

Poor Example of professionalism. Unfortunately corporate organizations do not have thorough hiring processes in order to staff their establishments. Apparently they can't even tell time. I am at the Marshalls in Emeryville at 9:15PM and they are refusing to let me in for a return. I find it extremely inconvenient that you have hours posted that ensure customers they can shop, return, and enjoy the facility for their enjoyment until closing at 9:30 and you decide to close 15 minutes early. I was approached by security which did not even open the door to greet and speak to me, he simply waved no from a far and simply walked away. I don't always rate 1 star, but when I do it's deserved. This is by far the worst Marshall's I've ever been to. I went to look for a sweater because summer in Bay Area is brutal and unfair and the wind was getting to me. I did not find a sweater in the entire store! Nothing with long sleeves in the women's department! While I was browsing I noticed a few things: 1. The store is highly disorganized. Many hangers with letter S had clothes labeled L. Many racks had XL right next to S and everything was just mixed up. 2. The clothes were mostly ugly and all low quality. I tried on a dress and a t-shirt and they were so see-through that I could never wear those in public. 3. There was no rack for outer wear, sweaters or even blouses! I understand it's summer, but man does it drop below 55 after dark! 4. The purses were cheap and ugly. I did not spend a lot of time in men's wear, but was jealous of the blazer rack. Do yourself a favor and shop elsewhere. H&M and Gap are within walking distance. read more

Tonight I had the worst experience I have ever had as a loyal shopper at this Marshall's location. I have had numerous great experiences, especially with the ladies at checkout and the people on the floor. I understand it's the busiest time of the year, so one would think that you would have your best people at checkout. Glenn was the gentleman at checkout and not only did he not greet me, as the other women usually do, he was cold and standoffish. Yes, it's late, but you work retail so you should be used to this. I would like to believe that I am a pleasant shopper and I even organize all my purchases so that if there is a lot of a particular item, I group them all together. Not only did Glenn seem super annoyed to be working, he was super unfriendly. For one purchase that I had set aside, I asked him if it was at all possible to get a discount since it was damaged. He acted like it was a completely idiotic question, stating that the box was damaged and the contents were fine so there should be no discount. The item was only $7.99, and 10% goodwill discount, which I have never had a problem with at Marshall's and Ross when there has been some damage to an item, would have gone a long way. That's less than 80 cents to retain a customer who has spent over $500 with you within the past month!!! When I realized Glenn was just ignoring my request, I restated that all the other employees have at least paid the courtesy of asking the manager. So in a huff, Glenn goes over to his manager, Xavier, and then quickly returns with a no. At this point, I'm in disbelief at how rude he is. So I decide to take the package over to the manager, Xavier, who is busy hanging things on a rack. Even as I begin to ask my question, he cuts me off with a "no, the contents aren't damaged" and doesn't even bother to look up at me and then walks away! I am just so put off that I almost consider not making my $238 purchase, but instead go back and pay for my items. Not only does Glenn try to reiterate that the never give discount, which is a flat out lie, he doesn't even say goodbye or thank me for my purchase. I would like it to be very clear that Xavier and Glenn just lost my business for less than 80 cents. They are both terrible at customer service and don't understand what it means to take care of loyal customers, or even take care of customers in general. Don't get me wrong, the floor staff and women at the front are gracious and kind and have always treated me well. There are great deals and products here, but this experience has left a terrible taste in my mouth. Xavier is apparently new at this location, and I foresee that the good customer service is going downhill under his management. He would rather have his 80 cents than loyal customers who spends $1000 of dollars with them per year. If you are a shopper here, don't expect any special treatment anymore. This particular Marshalls is not very big on little boys clothing and there home section is not that organized which is why I couldn't rate higher.I enjoy the help from the people that work there. But never see manager close by when I trying to purchase a damage item. I understand patience but waiting when I'making huge purchases NO. There is always a long line on weekends for the fitting room and cash register. You'd think with 7 registers there would be 7 cashiers with the line spilling out off the que but frequently there are only 3 or 4 cashiers working. With that said the staff is friendly and helpful, they just need more of them. read more

The store is usually very clean, plenty of parking, and has lots of great finds to decorate a home with. Not a huge women's selection of clothing but it has a lot of teen sizes. Great men's department and lots of shoes to select from. Love their purse selection! Stay away from the bath and body section, some of that stuff looks old and used. Great furniture and kids' toys area. Very long lines and unhappy cashiers. I did witness an attempted robbery here once but being so close to Oakland that's just inevitable. The police came right away and caught the guy. I do think they have some great finds though and it's much better than shopping at the ghetto Ross in the same parking lot. read more

This is my go-to store when I need anything random, from swimsuits (got two good ones for like $20 each!) to yoga mats, picture frames, small party favors and Le Creuset baking dishes (for real!). They aren't going to be totally reliable, of course, because the merchandise is always changing, and I have found the shoe department at Marshalls stores in general to have gone downhill in the past five years, but I almost never leave here without buying something.
