WHAT THE HECK!! I had the same experience as the other yelper with a return that was within the return window! They tried to tell me the item was used when I clearly had purchased it 3 days prior as per the receipt and they refused to take it back! I was incredibly shocked and bewildered, so I requested to speak with the manager. The MOD pointed to the sign by the door and told me to address the issue with the store manager, who was supposedly "not available." It was a significant inconvenience, and the whole experience left me feeling very upset; I am considering never shopping at Ross again! Not all Ross locations are like this thank god. I recently brought it to a different Ross, and a friendly staff member accepted it. It's astonishing how customers are treated at this location, though. This Ross had 2.5 for a reason! I had a terrible experience with the Manager Karina and the cashier Karla. Instantly, Karla was rude to me, didn't greet me, didn't even look me in the eyes. I wanted to return shoes I bought from another Ross, and she lifted the shoes inspected every crevice of the shoes that wanted to return; which I've never experienced at any Ross with returning. It was so extra. She said one of them pair were worn. I had literally never worn the shoes I was returning, I bought them in a rush and simply got home and didn't like them nor the quality of the shoe, I couldn't even fit them. She went on to whisper to the manager and manager came over with the same negative energy the cashier had and said the same, which I elaborated that what they see, is exactly why I'm returning the shoes. I bought them from another store Ross store in Oakland that wasn't as clean, stuff was everywhere, including the floor, which is where I found that pair of shoes. They were going back and forth telling me I need to take them back to the other store since I got them there, that I'm not getting my money back, etc, not even listening to me saying that they were not in good quality from the beginning. In the end, I got my money back. Period. They both ganged up on me and got loud with me about it; causing a bit of a stir. People see black women and think they instantly have to have an attitude and treat us any kind of way. It was honestly a hurtful experience. At the end of the day, we are in Oakland. I was told by someone that "they" don't like people doing that--but no store employees said anything. I have also done that in thrift stores. Another thing I like is that Tuesday's is Seniors day--10% off--basicly no sales tax. They didn't have what I was looking for, but I found a bunch of other stuff. I found some shirts my partner might like. Whatever doesn't fit --there is 30 days to return it and get my money back. What is dangerous is they have all these snacks before check out. I had a unpleasant experience today at the register today around noon. The employee with blonde hair at the register was scanning my items when she asked me if I wanted a bag. I said yes. I also had my credit card in my hand getting ready to pay when she asked me if I was paying with cash or card. A bit confused but I just went with it, so I responded "card". After I paid and the transaction was done, she gave me a receipt on top of my clothes, but I noticed she didn't put it in a bag. So I said, "oh can I get a bag please?" This employee literally sighed and gave me an attitude. Her response, "next time you need to tell me you want a bag in the first place because it costs 10 cents extra" First of all, I literally responded yes to her initial question asking me if I wanted a bag. She either forgot or didn't hear me. Sorry if she didn't hear me but the rude response was uncalled for. I respectfully declined the bag after her response and walked away holding my things instead. Very rude cashier, the way she talk to customer is very rude and getho, when I complain to Manager on duty she responded that, that's the way she talk, not acceptable, and cashier involved another male customer and customer told her that he was going to wait outside for me, I complain again to manager about her involving another customer and manager and security didn't do anything. The rude young black woman with the long hair and a head wrap did not have her name tag so who knows who she is but she is extremely rude. She said "next customer in line" I walked up with my return and she said "are you purchasing" I said "no" and she said extremely rude "I called a purchase you need to wait and I'll call you when it's a return" in an extremely condescending tone as if she were reprimanding a child, so she waited two customers later to call me. Mind you I had one shirt and if I weren't to make myself seen no one can see the returning line unless the person is extra tall! Which I am not. I placed the shirt on the table then she asked her coworker to help me, the coworker asked her why, and I replied because she is being rude. The girl started yelling at me saying no you should have listened! Ross needs to fix their policies when it comes to returns and purchases because I always feel like a peasant and the it can feel degrading, when I make a return the majority of the workers don't take the returns into account until someone speaks up and it should not be like that. It's exhausting. This Ross has good product but I guess what I have learned from all Ross stores the customer service is mediocre at best. I called corporate customer service, to see if there is someway I can complete this return by providing proof with my debit card I used; eventually they called but I missed the call. I called back it sounded like a young asian women I tried to explain my situation and let her know how terrible this process has been and she said there's nothing they can do I told her I bought it with my card isn't that proof enough and unfortunately lost the receipt and tag somehow and she said how is any of this out of my control, all of that was under my control, again extremely condescending tone. BEWARE! ROSS DRESS FOR LESS HAS A NEW RETURN POLICY! I purchased in Ross a pair of blue" Travelclog Slip-On Mules" for $20. In several weeks, I purchased in Ross another similar pair but in black. I started wearing a black pair first but, after the first day, the shoes shrank (!) and became completely deformed. I went to Ross to return the both pairs (unused blue and shrunken black). Ross reluctantly accepted the shrunken pair but offered me only 49 cents for the first pair (which I even did not wear), because I purchased it more than a month ago. Also, they pointed out to me that the mules were not Crocks, which I mistakenly assumed, but EASY SPIRIT. The bottom line, you need to be aware that now Ross has a new return policy that limits the consumers' right to return defective products. Considering the general Ross's tendency to sell low quality products, the new policy can easily leave you with a defective product without any recourse. In my case, I paid $20 for so called "travel" shoes which, as Ross disclosed me only when I wanted to return them, you should wear on carpet and whose actual price is 49 cents. read more

"Do you love it? I love it! I got it at Ross!" Biggest men's department section around this neck of the woods (richmond, San Pablo, concord, El cerrito, Alameda, San Rafael and Vallejo). It feels that the other locations everything is picked out and not much to choose from. This particular one has a pretty big selection. You may find something or you may not. Usually when you're not looking for something in particular is when you find the most. Check out line can get long but usually goes by quick. Customer service is ok. Haven't had a rude or bad experience. If I can't find anything here then I make stops at other stores that are nearby. It's not the cleanest store but while being compared to the other ones yeah I'd say it is up there. Parking can be a pain at this shopping center though. I could give it 5 stars but there are a few things that make it come up short: parking, better customer service, lines could be a little shorter and a little bit more organized. I've been coming to this Ross ever since I was a small child--so pretty much my whole life. I'm really really sad to say that this place has taken a nose-dive in quality for the past few years. Meanwhile, the prices have increased. Decrease in quality and increase in prices? Something's wrong. Once, there was a wide selection of great shoes for under $20. Now, I can hardly find any pair in size 5 or 6 (my shoe size, depending on the brands) that are of both great quality and less than $20. Once, there were many fabulous and lovely dresses I could wear for formal events. Now, they're ugly, baggy, stretchy, shapeless, and made of thin fabrics. Anything better are at outrageous prices that I could frankly go to another store for better quality, or sew myself. I still come here to shop, though. Purses are generally of good quality for reasonable prices, and I'm one of those people who like to write in paper diaries. Over the years, I always buy my diaries from here, and hoard them so that I never run out. I still have a pile of them in my room, still waiting to be written in, and I still can't resist the urge to purchase new ones when I see ones that I like. read more

This particular Ross, though it suffers from some of the aforementioned items, was better than most. Things were generally cleaner, and the checkout line was pretty "advanced", announcing over a speaker which register was open with arrows indicating which side it was on.
