Its been a while since ive visited. It will definitely not take me this long to come back. Just a perfect experience tonight Was driving through town on way back from my daughters swim meet and popped in with a steak craving. I knew what i wanted before i walked in the door. Their dry aged ribeye is something worth telling other people about (and i have) But BUT Tonight they had a featured waygu steak. Usually i dont splurge for waygu as the portion size is typical small. Not the case here. Our server, justin, was incredible. He said "i know you have your mind set on the ribeye but you have to try this steak" Apparently its a cross breed of waygu and angus (i had to google it as i write this because i couldnt remember the details). We ended up getting the irodori (yes had to google the spelling too) steak to share, but i was dead set on my ribeye After tasting the iridori, i wish i had ordered one for just myself, it was that good. Im usually not one to take a picture of my food but i snapped one to keep in my camera roll as a reminder to try it again. Even if that means a followup visit to 9 prime. Overall notes Espresso martinis were solid Wine list was very fairly priced with a few splurge bottles if you feel inclinded. Scott, the manager, was welcoming and charming. ...albeit i may be biased because of his name. We had a great conversation and recommend sayiny hi if you go in Justin our server was knowledgeable, especially for someone as young as he is. He mentioned he is in college but treated us in a manor that a tenured server would. We would request him in the future for sure. He had a good sense of humor too. He mentioed that he loves the food and from the one size too small vest he was wearing, it was evident! i left him a good tip to get a new vest. He was kind enough to bring the chef out to say hello and for us to ask about and compliment the waygu steak. The chef, jacob, was awesome. Knowledgeable but humble. Engaging and patient with all my questions. Would happily buy the man a drink if i see him around town. Only con of the night is, as anywhere in west chester, was parking. It is the weekend of our 6 month wedding anniversary so wanted to try somewhere special. So we ventured on a mini road trip to West Chester to dine at 9Prime. My husband parked the car, dropped me off and I checked in for our reservation. This restaurant is beautiful! Dark, moody, sexy. The renovated bank theme was very on brand, as our wedding was in the same type venue. Most all tables were occupied at our 7:30 seating and we were sat by the vault room at a small table. It still felt very intimate. One standout mention in our entire experience at 9Prime was the service. At first greeting, seating and attendance through our meal, service was polite, attentive and high class. Our server gave genuine, warm smiles all through helping us. As in experience 9Prime- top notch. But now to the meat of the steakhouse- the food and drink... Signature dirty martini- perfection. Dosed with the best swish of brine to let the gin shine. My husband enjoyed the variety of bourbons to try something new. For appetizers we ordered the Teller Tower and French Onion Soup. A seafood tower screams celebration and we CELEBRATED flavor with this seafood. Exceptional. The mussels were soft pillows with lemon accent. I wanted to steal them all for my belly. The oysters were midsized, clean, no grit and mild brine. Tuna crudo- could eat for days, give me that in a favorite sushi roll! And the shrimp was cooked perfectly, large, meaty, no chew. This tower is a must order. The french onion soup was hearty and bold brothy. Minimal sherry and beefy. Lots of onions and not overly cheesy. Then we decided on entrees. This unfortunately is where 9Prime underwhelmed. The Duck Confit was crispy but salty (and I agreed and am made for salt, lolol). The sweet potato gnocchi were firm but a nice accompaniment in option rather than a puree. The off-put was the jus. The red wine turned bitter and my husband called out a "liver" like flavor. It was distracting. I ordered the Chilean Sea Bass. Boo bass. This is my favorite fish and last night it was not. The portion of fish was small for the pricing. The Dijon sauce was delicious but not the pairing for this fish. Better sought to accompany a steak. And the Leek Rice. Fried rice, sort of. Like if you burn the rice in the bottom of your pan, turn it upside down and serve it anyways. This dish is not it. Happily surprised, we were then greeted with an anniversary treat of macaroons. French pockets of goodness. Very nice touch. We still ordered dessert, as who can resist banana in ice cream form. This gelato was Banana, not banana flavor, delicious ripe banana. Creamy, not heavy and refreshing. Finished off dessert with an espresso martini split for two. Strong coffee flavored encore in a delicious foamy sip. So 9Prime, very well done on so many fronts. We were not in the biggest rush but after finishing drinks and not seeing server for 30-40 minutes. I had to get up to ask someone for check. We were going to order more food but since no one checked back in with us the experience was over and so was the night. Overpriced without the attention or quality. We started with the Italian chopped salad with a grilled chicken breast substitution--they nailed it perfectly. My husband ordered the smoked burrata, which was not only delicious but beautifully presented. For entrees, I had the 8 oz filet mignon, cooked medium rare, and it was perfectly done--tender, juicy, and flavorful. I paired it with broccolini (requested with no oils), and they got it just right. My husband went with the lobster & black truffle carbonara, which was rich, decadent, and absolutely worth the splurge. I want to start by saying our waiter was very pleasant, and I absolutely loved the atmosphere! The restaurant was also very clean, which added to the overall experience. I hosted a rehearsal dinner for 55 guests. Chris was there to greet me, and understood my vision for the space. He took over decorating, and I returned to the most magical venue! Surprised to see so many negative reviews. 9 Prime is a great restaurant with a wrap-around bar and a great happy hour. I have eaten here for both dinner and happy hour. The service is always great and staff friendly. The calamari is great and the cheesesteak egg rolls. Also, the steak skewer is good but small. The flatbread was just ok, it's more of a pizza than a flatbread bc it is not flat. There is a members only speak easy in the basement. This is a great option for a fancy dinner in west chester (steaks are great) or a nice happy hour. Definitely recommend. read more

Following our horrible Christmas Eve dinner experience at 9 Prime, I communicated our evening on 2 separate occasions. No one never responded to either of my correspondence, confirming our experience and lack of customer service was not an isolated incident. We would never return to 9 Prime. What should've been a special night was completely unpleasant due to the service we received on Christmas Eve. We arrived for our 6;30 reservation and were promptly greeted by our server- that would prove to be only prompt service we would be receiving that night. After taken our drink order, our server returned (without our drinks) to see if we were ready to order. We order a cheese board, which would over take 25 minutes to receive. The waiter returned again, still without our drinks, to see if we were ready to place our dinner order and indicated again our drinks would be right out. So now we've placed 3 separate orders for drinks, appetizer and our dinner and still haven't received our cocktail order! In addition to the cheese board taking over 25 minutes to receive, it arrived with 5 cheeses ( none of which were never identified for us) but there were a total of 3 crackers on the entire board. Throughout our dinner my water glass was consistently empty and I had to repeatedly request for more water, which again was a long wait. Our dinner was received over an HOUR AND A HALF after placing our order. Despite the fact that we were told on 5 occasions that: -"Shouldn't be much longer" -it would "be right out" -"there was one table being plated before you" -"Just a few more minutes" Finally, I was able to speak to a manager, and he returned saying it would "be 3 more minutes." Our food did arrive shortly after; however, no one EVER returned to inquire or apologize at any point. Not only was there a table of 2 and a table of 6 who arrived much later than us but they received their meals and in one instance paid before we even got our meal! I would have expected a restaurant such as 9 Prime to have better service, timing and overall quality and care than what we were shown. Having arrived at 6:30 and not receiving our dinner until 8:20 is beyond ridiculous. That fact that no one ever came over to us to explain offer apologies or even just check in is unacceptable. This spot has so much potential but they definitely have a ton of kinks to work out. The host was nice and friendly but clearly lacked experience/professionalism. I wouldn't blame her though, she looked very young. Similar story with our server, it almost seemed like he was acting like what he thought a server at an upscale steakhouse should act like. The smoked burrata was NOT good. The smoke did not pair well with the cheese at all. My filet mingo was good but not super special, the scallops were great though. We got mashed potatoes and lobster Mac as well. Again, good but not exceptional. There were some really pretty parts of the building but we ended up stuck in the back. Service was great! Ambiance is great! Food did not meet the expectations of a high end steak house. We went for WC Restaurant week and all 6 of us ordered from the 60pp fixed menu. Our service started with a salad, either caesar or BLT salad. I had the caesar and it was very good. The main course options were steak and frites, two crab cakes, or chicken parmeasan. I ordered the chicken parmeasan, which came paired with spaghetti. The chicken was overcooked and the breading was dark and somewhat hard. The sauce had very little taste and the mozzarella cheese was not fully melted on top. It was edible, but not the quality that I was expecting. The spaghetti was too thick, overcooked, and had the same tasteless red sauce. It looked like it could have come out of a can. I was told the steak was a very tough, fatty cut thar did not have much flavor. The fries were more like fast food quality then something from a high-end steak house. No one at our table ordered the crab cakes so we cannot comment on that option. For dessert, a cheesecake or chocolate cake option was offered and it was the best part of the entire meal. They either have a great in house pastery chef or get their desserts through a great vendor. All in all, we were underwhelmed by our experience and thought it was overpriced especially considering the quality of the main entrees. We like to try restaurants during WC Restaurant Week because most restaurants see this as an opportunity to showcase items from their menu so that customers will return. We came here for Christmas Eve dinner and I want to start by saying every staff member was so incredibly friendly and that made the experience so much nicer. I thought the food was very good, but extremely expensive (which comes with the territory in a place like this) while I am sure it is worth it for some of the meats and things, I think it may have been much for the sides and salads... I was pretty disappointed that there were really no great vegetarian options (I believe there were a few items when they first opened but no entrees or anything right now) I had to have a salad, which was good but I would have preferred something heartier. I understand it is a steakhouse but having a veggie forward option or two is not that difficult and lots of other high end places offer vegetarian dishes. Honestly this means I likely won't go back here for food, since there isn't much for me. I will however go back for drinks! The cocktails were delicious and very well made. I like that they had holiday cocktails and a good variety of options. I had the Charlie 75, Christmas Cosmo, and The Bowen. All were fabulous. I also enjoyed the desert, I had the ginger snap crème brûlée and it was phenomenal. The burrata comes with a smoked-filled dome on top and was the worse dish--the burrara was fresh but the smoke flavor was too strong and the greens too bitter. I had the delmonico Oscar style which was excellent. The crab meat + bearnaise sauce combo was delicious. Sides of broccolini and carmelized onion potatoes were solid. All staff were very friendly, our server Jimmy P (and Kendall) was kind and very knowledgeable regarding the menu and offered great recommendations. We went in with high expectations and it did not disappoint. And now to the best part - the food was delicious! From oysters, wedge salad, filet, NY strip, ribeye, branzino, carrots, mashed potatoes, wine, chocolate torte, and bananas foster gelato, everything was great. It was pricey - more so than some other high end steakhouses we've enjoyed which would be the only thing to keep me from going often. I usually feel like Yelp reviews are pretty accurate, but in this case I feel that 9Prime is getting the short end of the stick. First of all, it's one of the few fine dining restaurants in West Chester which in itself should count for something. Secondly - the food and cocktails were really good. Is it competing with the top steakhouses in Philly? No, but come on it's better than the majority of options in the area. The service could have been a bit better - they were a bit slow and maybe understaffed, but I have faith they'll continue to work out the kinks. I noticed it was the same for the surrounding tables. We had the smaller seafood tower which was fresh and tasty as was the beet salad. The meat was cooked perfectly as were the sides. My son's duck wasn't very flavorful. Also, don't bother with the chai crème brûlée. The restaurant takes gluten free requests very seriously and were accommodating. Scallops are always perfect; calamari is the best; drinks consistently delicious; truffle fries and brussels a staple; and now, we can say the NY strip, blue cheese crust with brandy au poivre is hands down the best we have ever had. 9Prime opened about 3 weeks ago. I would Opine they are still having some things to work through. The restaurant was well staffed with friendly and attentive staff. The cocktails were pretty solid. We had oyster Rockefeller and a salad for starters - both were excellent - but it took just short of an hour for them to arrive and the oysters were not hot upon delivery. We had the cod and Delmonico steak for mains along with sides of sautéed onions and mushrooms. The cod was very very nice. The steak was delicious but nothing unique about it and not that thick of a steak. The price for anything that wasn't a main was very m the high side - $18 for mushrooms, $24 for oysters for example (and $7 for a steak sauce and $10 for bread). After waiting over an hour for apps, the mains came out 20 minutes after the apps. I would also suggest added desserts - maybe add some classics. The place is very cool - great lighting, cool bank vault, seating with a little space between tables. Great place for a group. read more

I can tell the employees working at 9Prime are really committed to getting this right, and last night we had a remarkable time. It was a wonderful experience and 5-star in every way. The lobster mac and cheese is a must. The interior of 9Prime is perfectly decorated. The ambiance is fitting for date night, girls night out, or a celebratory family gathering -- but really, you can come here for any reason. When I first came to 9Prime back in late-February, it was pretty crowded and it was a little too pretentious for me. I wasn't sure if I'd be back, in part because I didn't feel totally welcomed. We were so excited to try this restaurant. I did look at the menu and prices prior to going but we were still in sticker shock when we received the receipt. Someone added scallops to his steak and it was $22 for 2 scallops. My white wine was no more than 4 ounces for $19. A shot of Baileys in a coffee $18. To receive the ice from a manhattan was $4. The service was not top notch which I would expect it with those prices. The atmosphere was nice. I would have rather spent the money at 1906 at Longwood. The music was so loud that we could barely converse with our guests. AWFUL!! We asked several times if they could lower the volume and they never did. Another 20 minutes to take to order and another 25 minutes for the food to arrive. My omelet was cooked properly, but the mushrooms were as tough as shoe leather. My entree was supposed to come with a salad. I didn't even bother inquiring about it. My friend's eggs Benedict were very good, he said. We were so cold during this 2 hour brunch that we had to hold hands; and we're just friends! First time here and was really excited to try it out. I love a good upscale steakhouse. Pros: Beautiful building and great atmosphere. The server was knowledgeable, friendly, and very efficient. Drinks were good. Cons: parking isn't great. Valet would be a nice addition. Now to the food. To be honest, I was a bit disappointed. First, I got the special - bone-in filet. I love a filet that melts in your mouth. I assumed and was informed the bone-in would offer a a more favorable taste. It didn't, and I felt the overall taste was lacking in flavor and texture. The bernaise sauce was too watery and again...lacked flavor. The lobster bisque also was lacking flavor and came out lukewarm. I order lobster bisque at every steakhouse I frequent, and this one was just ok. Lobster Mac and Cheese was also just ok. I didn't taste lobster and it wasn't rich like I've had it at other steakhouses. The lobster tail I ordered was good, but came out lukewarm warm to cold. Overall, I was disappointed in my first visit to this restaurant. For $200 a person (we eat and drink well :) ), I do expect the food to be excellent. read more

If a restaurant is going to charge this amount for food, then EVERYTHING should be top notch: food service, and ambiance. This delivered two out of three. Food was served lukewarm to cold. Food quality, I believe was there, they just need a chef who knows how to prepare food properly. (If you want to be known as a steakhouse, for the love of Pete, know how to cook one!) Mashed potatoes with lobster: what a wonderful dish if prepared correctly. This portion for "sharing" was an individual serving. Very little lobster meat, and DRY potatoes, which I repeat were not hot. Love oysters Rockafeller. The ones prepared here were ok. ( I believe they used my favorite oyster, the Cape May salt) SALT being the key word in this dish. They were served over TABLE salt and whole peppercorns. They should have been served over rock salt, as the table salt leached into the oyster. I think I ate a month's worth of sodium last night. The servers, well, that is a whole different story. The young (clearly inexperienced) servers came to the table and asked "who got the ....". Are you kidding me?! Know where the food goes!!! We paid in excess of $300.00 for two, which I would have gladly parted with if the food quality and service were "there". I should add that my husband and I shared the oysters, steak, and lobster mashed potatoes. Our server asked if we would like the food to be separated in the back prior to serving. We stated we would appreciate that. Never happened. Be prepared to spend the evening here. We arrived at 6:30. Were done at 10:00! Drinks are very good, but extremely expensive. Ambiance was. We celebrated my wife's mothers 85 birthday and everything was fabulous, from the wine, our perfectly cooked steaks and our sumptuous dessert. We were able to put a heart box with earrings in one of the vintage safety deposit boxes, in the vault. So cool. She was surprised and said this was the best experience that she will remember on this special day. Many thanks to Chase and Nicole for making everything prefect.
