    Cake with a Gooseberry Mouse

Amazing experience from start to finish! We have been trying to get a reservation here for a long time but always seemed to forget about the date that reservations are released. We finally got one to celebrate a late Valentine's Day and it was definitely worth the wait. The host was very friendly. Took our jackets and offered us complementary sparkling wine as we had to wait a few minutes for our table to free up. The service throughout the meal was great. All the food was incredible, with the exception of the desert. The moose that was on top of the cake was excellent but the cake was a tad dry and flavorless, but still didn't take away from the meal as a whole. The pasta was definitely a highlight! Made sure to soak up every last bit of sauce with their amazing bread. We would definitely like to come back!

Food was incredible, ambiance was perfect, and service was some of the best I've experienced!

I've managed to snag reservations to go to Andiario twice now --- which is no easy feat after it was named to the NY Times Best Restaurants in the US last year. My advice: be ready on their website at 11:55 AM on the 20th of the month prior and don't be too picky about the exact timing --- reservations open at 12 PM and are gone within 5-10 minutes. If you're able to see a timeslot available, snatch it, because it'll likely be gone by the time you think about it. Andiario offers a four-course prix-fixe tasting menu that changes week to week to feature local offerings (including, on my most recent visit, locally grown PA citrus!!). They do offer the option to adapt the menu for vegetarians. The price of the meal was recently increased to $80, which is very reasonable for the quality and amount of food you receive. I've seen some other reviews complaining about the lack of artistry in their presentations --- this is not entirely off base. While the presentation of their dishes isn't unappealing, this isn't a place wasting time cutting your portion into a perfect circle and making sauce swoops shaped like a heart. The art here is for your taste buds, and on that, this restaurant excels. My biggest complaint is their drink situation. They offer two cocktails (a Negroni or an Aperol Spritz --- essentially the same flavor profile) and a variety of wines that are $15-ish per glass or $60+ per bottle. Alternatively, you can BYOB, but they charge a $35 corkage fee PER BOTTLE, which can add up quickly (but is still more affordable than buying their wines). I'd love to see them offer another cocktail or two that appeals to a different palate. On our most recent visit, our amuse-bouche was small serving of tuna crudo with lemongrass oil that was fresh and flavorful. I would have loved for this to be a full course by itself! Our first course was a farro arancini with a salad of radicchio, blue cheese, and walnuts, all of which was served family style. The arancini were crispy on the outside and soft and cheesy on the inside, and the salad was delicious and very well balanced. The salad portions were large enough that we wound up taking some home. On this visit and our prior visit, the pasta course was our favorite by far. We were served a fresh pasta filled with butternut squash, served with a buttery sauce, fennel sausage, and brussels sprouts to create a delightful combination of textures and flavors. Our third course featured smoky chicken thighs along with roasted salsify in a delicious sauce, again served family style. Though I tend toward a predominantly vegetarian diet these days, I do indulge in an occasional meat dish while I'm out if it fills a craving or is particularly tasty, and this chicken was totally worth it. The texture and seasoning were perfect, and it was equally delicious warmed up as leftovers the next day. Of note, our firmly vegetarian friend was served the largest roasted carrot I've ever seen, which was also surprisingly delicious for being essentially a giant vegetable by itself on a plate. We ended with a lilac torte with blackberry cream, a light but delicious dessert that we all agreed was a highlight of the meal. All in all, a delicious evening, and I do look forward to visiting again. A note about parking: it's all street parking in that area of West Chester, but there is a public lot 1-2 blocks away on Chestnut Street that was very convenient if you want to skip the driving-in-circles part of the evening.

Food | Everything was fresh and well selected. Presentation is clean with minimal flourish. Each dish was familiar, but prominently featured a niche ingredient. Arancini with a local grain rather than rice, a pan seared scallop garnished with puntarelle in a light bright dressing, squab with chestnut mousse and carmelized pearl onion. Nothing 'exotic', rather uncommon locally sourced produce. I was surprised by some flavors and combinations, but I enjoyed each dish. Space + Design | Crisp farm to table vibe. The dishes are earthenware, turned wood, and natural materials. I later learned they were mostly custom ordered and made by local artisans. The team is dressed comfortably rather than in a uniform or following a strict dress code. Some in suit and tie, others in t-shirts and jeans. It contributes to a more casual atmosphere. Some of the dishes included finger food or encouraged hands-on eating so that all works together. I feel I could have worn something more or less formal and still felt correctly dressed. This in and of itself is incredible. To feel properly dressed is practically unheard of in this corner of the world. Don't expect to be seated in gym clothes, but don't be afraid of comfort. The restaurant achieves 'fine dining' without being stuffy or overly formal. Value | Good price point for the fare. $80 for 4 courses. Something like this could easily be a couple hundred a head in a major city. The wine list has modest variety and reasonable pricing. They offer a wine pairing. I believe it was $85, but that price changes according to the evening's selection. Not sure if there's a Somme because I brought a bottle of something special and paid the corkage fee ($35 standard for the area). Based on similar dining experience I've had in different cities/countries, this was a moderately priced meal. I was pleased to find it so affordable in comparison to other places I've dined. Experience | Is Andiario for you? I made a reservation for one. Sometimes you're just in the mood to do something solo. I people watched, made friends with a table of wine enthusiasts, and had a front row seat while a rude man complained about everything. At one point he lamented that he wasn't given as many forks as he expected. Fancy = Forks? He and his companion left early much to everyone's relief. He was a well-timed counterpoint to my peaceful solo dining. I'm telling you about him because I think he's a good reminder of what Andiario is not. It is not a place where you go expecting to love every bite of every dish. It's not a place where you get "your money's worth" by itemizing the cost of individual ingredients. You are not there to tell them what YOU want. You are there to share in what THEY have hand picked and carefully prepared for you. Andiario is an adventure you go on and Andiario is the guide. You're paying for the experience as a whole. You are expected to make very few decisions, which is a relaxing break for some and a nightmare for control freaks. Maybe you don't like a particular vegetable. Try it in a new pairing, see if the flavor changes after a sip of wine. It's an exercise in trust and an exploration of the slightly unfamiliar. Final Note | They fed me the most delicious slice of bread I've ever eaten in my life. I don't know what kind of magic they're practicing in the wee hours, but they're doing it right. Best. Bread. Ever.

Came back after a while and had the tasting menu this time. Greeted by this very nice and a super friendly host, she even opened the door and offered to take our jackets. Bone marrow was a bit raw (bloody) so we just scooped only the cooked portions. Server saw both of our plates & were relatively unfinished but he did not bother to inquire. Buttery and nice but nothing special. The pasta dish was the star of the night, superb and nice. Dessert was equally sweet and enjoyable. Wife had the wine pairing, one was a simple red 'blend', all were ok, none special.

A very nice meal! The staff was very attentive. The ambiance was lovely with the open kitchen so you can see chef work from your seat. Very delicate and refined menu - chef's pastas are incredible!

It's been years since I've been back, and sadly it'll probably be the last time. The staff was very attentive and the restaurant beautiful. However, nothing about this New American cuisine could have been described as above average. We were given a chef's compliment to start - chicken liver mousse on a rosemary cracker (it was two bites of richness) The appetizer was a toasted piece of sourdough with provolone topped with sun dried pepper (While a tasty dish, it was not thought through how someone would eat this. It was difficult to cut and too complicated for something so simple) First course was pasta and fennel sausage (by far the best dish of the night. Great flavor, but also too simple for a place like this.) Second course was soft shell crab over an asparagus salad (the salad was over dressed. Also, why would your main course of New American cuisine be soft shell crab... unclear) Dessert was a rhubarb tart with ricotta ice cream (unfortunately for those who couldn't eat the ricotta, there was no alternative to make this dessert not dry) While critical, our meal was nice. Great staff and experience, just the menu and quality of food...that's where we expected more.

Once we got up, they do not seat you. Seating and tables are first come first serve, including the bar. The upstairs bar where they do the sleigh bar is a lot smaller than it appears to be online, and you will do a lot of standing so be prepared. Plus, it can be pretty loud. Now onto the drinks: they're pretty good. The Sleepless in Suburbia is probably one of the best espresso martinis I have ever had. I also enjoyed the sleigh ride cocktail too. As far as their snacks go, they're alright. I understand not having a full food menu since the bar is pretty small, but $5 for a plate of popcorn is pretty crazy, not to mention that the popcorn itself was overly salty. The Cajun fries were pretty good though. The sleigh bar is starting to become a West Chester Christmas staple, and I cannot wait to come back next year!

We definitely over-ordered but told plenty home for leftovers. For appetizers we ordered the pork belly bao buns and the Thai salad with shrimp. These are more entree size so be forewarned. The bao buns came in a taco server and had three buns filled with plenty of pork and a spicy aioli. The Thai salad came with 5 nicely charred shrimp and a Napa salad. This ate a little dry-I would have appreciated a bit more dressing- but I can see where more dressing might have made this a bit soggy. We would definitely order these again For entrees, we tried the burger and the chicken pot pie. The burger was a double patty with cheese, pickled onion, and a mayo based sauce on a sesame bun. I have to say I was happy to see that they opted out of the usual sad lettuce and anemic tomato that is typical of early spring. I think it was lacking some salt as it was missing something but overall was ok and served with crispy shoestring fries. The pot pie was topped with some puffed pastry and had a nice velvety sauce with hints of tarragon. Very nice. My dining partner finished my burger and took most of the pot pie and the side salad that came with it home. Even though my dining partner couldn't finish his regular entree, he wanted dessert. After looking at the choices the server suggested the seasonal dessert which was beignets with whipped cream, chocolate and strawberries. I was reticent but was happy with the choice because the chocolate dipping sauce (of which there was plenty ) was DELICIOUS! The beignets were fried puff pastry or croissant dough that one dipped in the warm chocolate fudge-y ganache and/or whipped cream. I ordered coffee which paired well with the dessert and it was delightfully fresh. Service was good, friendly and attentive. Decor is industrial farmhouse. Clientele consists of workers from the local courthouse up to about 6 pm when we saw families starting to file in. Nice place, good food, good value.
