We have eaten here twice in the last two weeks and both times thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. I am enjoying that there isn't the huge wait that there often is at other restaurants in the area. The menu is pretty straight forward and the pasta dishes seem to have homemade pasta in them, which is a plus. I love the fresh ingredients and the heirloom tomatoes and their mozzarella is delish! It is a bit loud inside, but I find that in a lot of restaurants now days. They don't use as much noise softening decor as the style now is more clean and sleek - wish that someone would come up with a noise absorbing wall covering or decoration that would fit with the modern styling - they would make a fortune. We go to this place once a week, it is one of my favorites. I would say breakfast is the best because I am addicted to the vegetarian version of huevos rancheros or a veggie version of their eggs Benedict they make for me with spinach. My husband loves the oatmeal. We also love the soups and salads and even the desserts. The salads come with these wonderful popovers. The service we have is always top-notch. I have been to Marston's for dinner a few times, and yesterday we went for breakfast. Marston's does not disappoint. It is one of the classier standard fare restaurants in SCV. In the same market square, I also recommend Sabor as a classy Mexican/So.American dining experience. Marston's suits the North Valencia clientele very well. The food is tasty and elegant and the service is bar none. My only problem, and the missing star, is my order. I asked for a pulled pork eggs benedict. The eggs were lightly poached (perfect). Generous portion of shredded pork pieces. But the meat was cooked in a barbeque sauce, or perhaps a sauce was added. TOO SWEET! It totally took away from the benedict. It looked like there was hollandaise, but I never tasted it. Blech. And, since I am being picky, the potatoes had a little too much bell pepper for my taste. However, Hub loved his ciabatta breakfast sandwich and the potatoes, so what do I know? Great place. And Hub says it is his new favorite breakfast spot. read more

Yesterday my husband and I ate at Marston's for the second time. I am a long time patron and fan of the Pasadena location. Our dinner during our first visit was exceptional. I had the fish tacos and he had the filet burger. He said it was the best burger he has ever had. I too thought the fish tacos and accompanying salad were excellent. Should I mention to those of who don't know, their San Pasqual dressing is FABULOUS. I actually buy it for the house. Yesterday for our breakfast I tried the eggs benedict and he had the andouille sausage omelet. All I can say is that our previous dinner and breakfast yesterday still have an impression in our minds. I love a place where you can have a nice dinner, great service, be in a clean and comfortable environment and eat food that makes you want to savor every bite. So delicious! Went there for dinner with friends on a Thursday even at around 7pm. Service and food was top notch. The staff really makes sure you have a perfect experience. I love their waffles with berries. First and last time eating here. We decided to try it because of the great reviews. It's the first time we are steered wrong. The food was so bland. I had the "huevos rancheros". Who doesn't put sauce on their tortillas on huevos rancheros? The beans taste like they came out of a can. I asked for jalapeños to try to give it some spice and flavor. First, both times, we have had great waitstaff & service. For dinner I had their house special Mac & cheese. It was watery, needed seasoning and just not very good. The ceasar salad had chopped tomatoes, thats a first. Breakfast had a dry omelet & as the previous reviewer noted, $11 for 2 pieces of French toast is a bit much. I tried "The Works" French toast dish. It was pretty unique because they use sourdough bread with corn flakes and deep fries the toast. It was pretty tasty and the fresh fruit was pretty refreshing. Their whipped cream is homemade and it really made the entire dish come together. I received really great service today and the coffee paired very nicely with my meal. Best breakfast in town! I have lived in SCV for 7 years now and this is our go-to place for breakfast. Yes, (as some reviews have noted) it is incredibly busy on a weekend for breakfast (like all breakfast places on a weekend--gosh even ihop packs them in), and you might wait 15-20 minutes (it's right next to a mega church so that's a lot of people). My family eats here a lot, and the food (while not perfect) consistently ranges from good to great for the price point. I think breakfast is their strongest effort. I also think that their weekend dinner specials are always very strong (try the shortrib, it's awesome). I also think they have some pretty fabulous bartenders if you are ever in the mood for a cocktail. Last, the service is consistently excellent, and the staff are across the board just great folks, and treat you like family. read more
