Amazing. Simply amazing. We got there and signed in for a table. Waited about five minutes. I have to say that the waiting area, if you can even call it that, is a little small, and by a little I mean VERY. And since they are pretty popular when it's the dinner rush there is not a lot of places to stand without snugging up to strangers. Also there is not a lot of seating inside, but there is a patio outside. At first I thought, "oh no, we have to sit outside, it's going to be cold..." but no, they have heaters, and it's not REALLY outside...it is, but it isn't...it's all closed off and rather cozy. Chips and salsa came first...and here it is, my favorite...BEANS with your chips!! Best Ever!!!! The salsa is very delish too. Looked at the menu and it's a little pricey...but man is it worth it. It took me about 10 minutes to decide what I wanted to eat because they sure have a lot of stuff that sounded really good. I ended up getting the Enchilada Suizas, with chicken, tomatillo sauce and other things. YUMMERS. It came with a choice of soup or salad. I went with the soup...wow...it's a chicken tortilla spinach soup...Now, I'm not sure if this is something people do usually but the spinach is something I've never had...good move. My friend got the Demon Delight Steak dish. He liked it. He thought it was way spicy, but I have a mouth of steal and didn't think it was that spicy at all...or maybe he's just a wuss? I dunno, but it was totes yums too. He got the soup as well so I don't know what their salads are like. Oh and can I just say, best service ever. They really are on top of things here. Quick, polite, attentive. Job well done. I've never left a Mexican restaurant so satisfied and full, I was not able to finish my meal, so lunch tomorrow will be as good as dinner tonight. New favorite spot for Mexican food! Super authentic and delicious. I can't say enough about this place. The servings are large, fresh. I usually judge a place by their enchiladas so I happened to get the chicken enchilada with the Carne asada and was blown away. My gf got the Carne asada and shrimp and loved it. You also can't go wrong with the soup or salad so we got both. We were smiling with every bite. We finished off our dinner by sharing the flan as a perfect end to an excellent meal. We'll definitely come back again. I recommend the margaritas to wash everything down. You have to check this place out! My taco salad came with canned beets. Unacceptable. I ordered carnitas with the salad and I tell you what: It was not pork, chicken or beef. Some other unidentifiable animal. My friend ordered fish tacos. We're positive the fish was Gordon's. Yep, right from the freezer at the grocery store. Unacceptable. The food was pretty tasty. We came here twice when we were housesitting in sebastopol a few months back. The 150 year old recipe was pretty delicious and the burritos are also delicious. Service isn't that great, they can defiantly improve on that, but we will be back when were in town. read more

Incredible food. The ingredients were super fresh and each dish prepared artfully. I wish we lived close by. I had the seafood enchiladas which were amazing and chock full of crab and shrimp, but that wasn't enough for them. They went a step further and put a few pieces of deep fried calamari on top. Nice! Dining at Martha's is always a treat. The foods been consistently great, as well as the service. The only reason I don't go here all that often is because it's mostly a sit down restaurant which means the prices are a little on the higher end. Whenever I eat here I always get the fish tacos because they are just that good! The fish is breaded to crispy perfection and topped with this amazing creamy fish taco sauce. I've had the tamales here as well and they are delicious. They also have this scrumptious avocado salad dressing that makes you wish you could buy a bottle of it from them. Enchillada, refried beans and rice, a good meal for lunch and filling. The enchilladas are tasty, I love the sauce. The chips are pretty good, though they are thicker than I like them. Salsa is good and fairly spicy, lots of chunck of tomatoes, which I love. The other thing they serve with that is refried beans.. kind of weird, it feels like dipping your chip in lard, not gonna lie, but it's good (not gonna lie.. ) My PID had the wrap, it looked good. i was going to get that but opted for the enchi.. I've been to this restaurant over a dozen times and it seems to be getting worse and worse. This last time, the food was OK, mediocre. I was severely disappointed however by the service. It took way too long for us to get something to drink. We sat at the table for many minutes hoping to get a menu. And we had to ask multiple times for water. We felt as if we were inconveniencing the staff by being at the restaurant. The waitress did not speak much, and it seemed as if she would prefer not to have us there. The busboy brought one of our dishes and handed it to someone in our group which him third-degree burns on his hand. We realize later that the busboy was carrying it with an oven mitt. He should tell people that it's a hot plate before handing it to them. They forgot my meal and served the rest of the table. Everyone in my group had eaten most of their meal before the waitstaff came over and I said "I'm hungry". They must have rushed to cook my meal because it was very average. As we waited for my food, we noticed a huge spider above our table. It seemed as if the patio area had not been cleaned since the restaurant debuted. I would recommend an exterminator. After several attempts at this restaurant, this is the last time I will go. I'm very disappointed. When it first opened, Martha's was pretty good. Now it sucks. read more

My new favorite Mexican restaurant! Which totally sucks, as I live in LA and I find myself in the area like once or twice a year. BOOOO. Anyway, my boo and I were freezing our butts off one night, and decided to stop in for a late dinner (His first and my second. Whatever. I eat a lot, okay?). I thought the ppl would be mean since we came in literally 10 minutes before closing, but everyone and everything was so nice! We ordered the tamale and fish tacos entrees, and happily munched on the tortilla chips with salsa and bean dip. We spent the last of the warm weather hiking in Bodega Bay and naively thought we could get a leisurely seafood lunch afterwards. Holy over-priced crustaceans Batman! All I gotta say is, if I'm waiting an hour for some crab, it better give me magic powers (you know, like in that terrible Sarah Michelle Gellar movie? No?). So we kept on trucking down the road to Sebastopol. Which is not right on the water and does not have magic crab, thus, the crowds are just the usual wacky Sonoma County mix. Martha's is near the main street drag, but the sign isn't very obvious if you're approaching on foot, so keep your eyes peeled. We chose to sit on the back patio, which I liked because it had every type of string light known to humankind, though you get to watch the ladies cook in the front, which also could be pretty rad. The service was very friendly and our orders were taken quickly. The chips and salsa, gotta say, were not very good. But those are just extras anyway, so no tears over those. I ordered the fish taco and a chile relleno and both were quite fine, Possibly one of the best fish tacos I've ever had even. It was also huge, next time might just get that. This is a great small restaurant right in the heart of downtown Sebastopol and only two blocks away from the Barlow. The service was excellent and the food very authentic. There was 4 in our party, including one vegan and one person with a dairy allergy. The choices were numerous for us all. The fish tacos and pulled pork were a group favorite and my quesadilla was very tasty with a choice of one or three meats, pork, chicken or beef and various cheeses as well as tofu. Light, bright, and colorful interior, plus a focus on sustainable and organic ingredients, made it a little easier to digest than a lot of Mexican food, which is delicious but does tend to sit on the stomach. That said, I could only finish about a quarter of my spinach enchiladas at the table. They were enjoyable, but I wasn't sure about the taste of the spinach. Adam guessed they'd used frozen spinach. I had my standard metric for judging a Mexican restaurant, a carne asasa burrito. The service was very prompt, at least for lunch. Free chips and salsa came at the table. This restaurant had the red salsa (which isn't that good) and hot bean dip (which is good). The red salsa is very liquid-y and doesn't taste like good salsa. I like pico de gallo style salsa. The food got to our table quickly as well. The burrito comes quite wet, with red sauce and drizzled with white sauce. It also comes with Spanish rice and pinto beans (either whole or refried). I opted with the whole beans. The burrito was just too bland tasting. The sauce tries to punch the taste up, but doesn't really do much for it. The beans were too salty but the rice was good. The price was okay for what you get, it's slightly lower than the industry standardized price. The restaurant has an indoor seating area (which is dull) and an outdoor patio in the back. It's nice, but the chairs have a very short seating surface so it's like you're almost falling out of the benches. read more

I love the eccentric scenery and how out-of-context it is. Service is great, the servers are very polite and responsive. Food always tastes fresh. I do wish Martha's had a wider selection of menu options, as I've exhausted the majority of them. Martha's plates always have a creative twist that distinguishes them from your more-generic taquerias in the area; different vegetables where you'd only expect pico de gallo, unique dressings, etc. Most definitely recommended. read more

The last time I came here, almost a year ago, I left seriously disappointed. This place seriously used to be the bees knees. I used to come here all the time with friends, parents, etc. I loved the back patio and the huge glasses of lemonade. But the last time I went the food was overpriced, cold, not overly tasty and the service was rude. I need to give this place one more try before I can write it off 100 percent. Born and raised in L.A with homecooked Mexican and Central American food I have high standards. We used to love Martha's and were frequent customers. However, as a customer with hispanic roots I realize they are not as nice to the non-whites. I even walked out one time after half my family was inside waiting to be seated and we watched another party enter in and be seated right before us. As for the food, in the last few years it has gone down hill. They claim homemade but just chek out their pantry with canned everything including enchilada sauce! The drink list sucks, only sodas no juices/ agua frescas like horchata or ohetherwise. And the service is inadequate, unless you get one of the Marthas which are always kind, usually it is a younger woman who always has a sour face and looks like she really hates her job! read more

I am so happy to have found this delicious place while in the Santa Rosa area for a long weekend. I chose it because the colors in the photos were so bright and happy. Thrilled to discover that everything was DELICIOUS! Great options for vegetarians! I was thrilled to find that the mixed veggies filling option wasn't the standard peppers and onions - instead it was fresh squash, zucchini, mushrooms, peppers and onions that were so perfectly cooked. My husband got the Spinach Enchiladas, and they were SO good. The Flan for dessert was like no flan I've ever had. Not sure what their secret is, but it was a bit of heaven. The toy animals might just come to life if you have recently taken some EEEEEEEEE The service can be a bit inconsistent--especially on the patio--so relax.....you are in the country you hyped up yuppie freak. It is the wine country not the whine country so have a glass they have some good vino here and take a chill pill like a hippie. This is a place that caters to locals so if you are up here for a barrel tasting or some other form of nonsense you might have to wait more than five minutes for a table.......get over yourself already or go to Taco Bell down the street. Don't forget to try the soup.......it is a truly wonderful thing.......btw......if you are a vegetarian this is probably not the place for you. A nice plus.....the food here will not make you fart up the cave like other Mexican food but it will create "fart burps." These are burps that are so gnarly they smell like they could potentially be farts.......so good it burns twice. Be nice to the staff you uptight yuppsters.. They work hard for the money--so hard for it honey--they work hard for the money so you better treat them right. The sauces are handmade and delicious. The cheeses used are authentic Mexican. The dishes are nicely presented, and you get PLENTY to eat. Outstanding on this visit was the spinach tortilla soup - soup or salad comes with many entrees. The soup was thick with spinach, black beans (?), and onions, and was topped with tortilla pieces and cheese. Just incredible. We all sampled each other's food. Chili rellenos, carnitas, enchilada - it was all very well-done, and very delicious. The restaurant is owned and run by two women named Martha. My boyfriend and I went here solely based on the great reviews made by other yelpers. Our goal into making the 1 hour and 23 minute trip ride to Sebastopol was Screamin' Mimi's, another Yelp favorite for their ice cream. We Yelped eateries near Mimi's and found Martha's. Martha's is a quaint little place that had a line forming before they opened their doors for the dinner rush. My boyfriend had the seafood enchilada's and I had the Demon shrimp, kind of like a Camarones a la diabla - normally very spicy, but Martha's was not spicy enough for this firecracker. Nonetheless, it was extremely flavorful and incredibly delicious. Prices we ok (of course we both picked the expensive dishes), service was ok, only one waitress working, but the taste of the food was worth it. Definitely going back. read more

The service and top notch food were served in a timely manner for our party of 20 people. They provided the patio space so we could share our memories and have our privacy. There really isn't any better mexican food in Sonoma County than Martha's. She doesn't just do the basics well, she does everything a little differently (and better) than all the other taquorias around. From the complementary warm bean dip that she serves with the chips to the creamy avacado dressing on the salads, she excels at the simple things where most Mexican restaurants flop. Its no surprise then that most of her entrees are second to none, with sauces that really set them apart from the crowd. My personal favorite: the fat boy tamale. Insider tip: ask to sit on the covered back patio, I find the main dining room too crowded, but the back patio is a great place to relax. read more

one of the better mexican restaurants in sonoma county. i have had mixed reviews of this place in the past, but it just boils down to the fact that they have an extensive menu and not everything is awesome. i don't really care for their fajitas. they are stewed and not served on a sizzling platter which is no bueno in my book. chips and salsa is pretty good. the salsa is better than the chips. they also serve this awesome bean sauce as another option to salsa. their camarones a la diabla (they call it something else, but its a similar concept) were good. they could have had a more hearty sauce with a little more heat, but the shrimps were cooked perfectly and the quality of ingredients was high. the best thing i have had there was their chicken tortilla vegetable soup. its awesome! perfectly balanced flavors. crispy tortillas. plentiful vegetables. incredibly light and fresh. i could eat this soup every day. prices are a little bit higher here, but its not too bad and worth every penny. service is fine. i recommend sitting out on the back patio. you have this feeling of being in a tree house. they have a nice little garden up top with a couple of different fountains that provide the lovely sound of running water while you eat. read more

Have been looking for good Mexican food around Sebastopol and I like Martha's better than Viva Mexicana. I got a carnitas burrito to take out. The carnitas was not greasy, so it was a little dry but I prefer that to dripping with grease. The extra jalapenos I asked for were plentiful and the tortilla was nicely grilled, Service was very quick and friendly. I checked out the back patio while I was waiting - very cute.
