Carrots and peas in Mexican rice? -pico was either pre frozen or old. Cilantro was wilted and the whole thing seemed macerated. -salsa tasted jarred. It was thin and ketchup tasting. -guacamole was not flavorful. No garlic? No lime? -server never checked on us (though she was kind). -one customer tried to pick up her own food because it was left on the counter. This is a very nice little restaurant. The front is a bit squished so go to the covered patio in back. It is like the Tiki Room at Disneyland, or at least that is what my daughter says. OK - if you are looking for americanized Mexican food - this is not your place. Martha cooks Oaxacan food from her homeland. The food is authentic and delicious. I dream about "Martha's Dressing" which is an avocado based salad dressing that is YUMMY. I love her version of Tortilla Soup which is spinach based and really good. I almost always order soup and salad because I love these two things so much. (Hot tip: you can buy the dressing to take home and enjoy). My boys get burritos and they love them. The Enchiladas Suiza are great! My husband says the Chile Verde is phenomenal. Martha is the sweetest and she really cares about the customers. Maybe it's a bad day, but the service is horrendous. We waited for 10 minutes with salsa, chips and nothing to drink. Waitress arrived and took our food order without asking for our drink order; we had to prompt her to bring drinks. Then the food runner brings out the wrong drinks. Then salad instead of soup. Super awesome Customer Service!!! Three of us walked in tonight to order takeout. We stood at the counter and watched them being prepared. First order came out, second order came out...third order... I double checked when it was delivered because I didn't see my Fish Delight being made. They recognized the problem, and immediately made my Fish Delight, and sent us home with the fish tacos too on the house!!! Our only complaint was too much delicious food!!! I was very hungry for lunch and really wanted good comfort food and Martha's was the right pick. A bit of a hole in the wall that a friend mentioned I might want to try and a good thing she gave me good directions. It's in between the tattoo parlor and the florist. Greeted immediately when I walked in the door. The interior is nice with colorful tile and "mexican" decor, clean as well. Could have been 1:30 or 2 so I was there after the lunch rush. I was able to order, pay and get my enchilada to go in about 8 minutes, including the time it took me to look over the menu. I also asked for something not on the menu, no problem. Chips were not amazing but I also don't put a lot of weight or value on that personally. Friendly nice people. I really enjoyed that tasty lunch and I'm thrilled to have found this spot. This looks like such an unassuming place when you drive by it. Tonight was my first night to eat here. Once you are inside it is so colorful. Kinda felt transported to Mexico. Check out the people's photos from here, and you'll see. Once we sat, they brought us chips, salsa, and what seemed liked refried beans. So good. We all got entrees, and came with soup or salad. One friend got that salad, which looked good. The soup tonight was spinach-tortilla. So good, and full of flavor. I didn't think a spinach soup would be good, but I was wrong. My friend had the carnitas, other friend had the pork in green chile, and I had the beef in red chile. We all tried some of each other's, and all were equally delicious. Really decent portions too, for the price. We all left stuffed. Service was good. Only issue had was how the table tops are uneven , from the decorations on top of the tables. Made balancing our drinks fun. Regardless of that. If you want some quality Mexican food at a decent price, you need to check this place out. read more

At one time, this was a great place, and we came often for lunch and dinner. The last few times, the food has gone downhill, and the service has been careless and slow. The menu boasts "the freshest ingredients and finest meats", but yesterday we were there for lunch and: The frijoles served with chips and meals was completely tasteless Carne Asada steak was tough and tasted like liver Spinach enchilada tortilla was tasteless and soggy The server brought a bottle of beer (more than ten minutes after taking our order) with a dried out, brown at the edges wedge of lime stuck in the top. How she could serve that is unfathomable. Also, Martha has not been seen by us the last few times we were there. Has she sold it, or given control to others? Absolutely the BEST Mexican restaurant in Sebastopol or maybe even West Sonoma County. The food is authentic, the flavor is fantastic, the service is kind and compassionate, and the food will have you coming back again and again! We usually choose to dine in the garden area out back because the fresh air and ambience are nice. One time when it got chilly, we asked to be moved to a table with an outdoor heater over it and we were readily and graciously accomodated. I've eaten there perhaps five times and have never been disappointed with the food or service. Martha presides over the kitchen with a sense of pride and attention to detail to her customers. The prices are a little high but this isn't your garden variety taqueria either - you get what you pay for! The other people in my party had a variety of things and everyone was happy. The parking here is terrible, took us forever to find a spot. But the area is great and there was a lot to see. They are always fresh and I really like the added touch of avocado and calamari on top. You always can choose from a wonderful selection of soup or salad to start. My family drove through Sebastopol looking for a quick lunch and left with full stomachs and smiles. The interior is charming and bright, good for young and old, groups and couples. Appetizer chips were served with yummy salsa and bean dip, and the main courses were excellent. We entered just as they were closing to prepare for dinner, and were served anyway in such a way that we did not at all feel as though we were imposing. Martha's is the best. I always start with the salad with creamy avocado dressing, and then get the chicken chimichanga or the carnitas soft tacos as my entree. But the true show stopper is the flan at the end of the meal. It's perfect. They made a pumpkin spice flan for fall and although I'm not a major fan of pumpkin, the flavor was subtle and wonderful. The food was pretty bland and the service was really lacking. Waitress took a really long time to take our Oder. Then we asked for water and she never brought it, so I finally got up at least 10 minutes later and got some for us, passing her with my full glasses. She just smiled at me and didn't say anything. Really enjoyed this place. Been looking for a Mexican place in Sebastopol that is not overpriced or a modern take. The food is traditional and good. I had one chicken and one beef enchilada for dinner and an horchata which came out in a giant margarita glass. Loved the margarita touch but the horchata was okay but not bad. I love this restaurant! We go here a lot. My partner orders the taquitos and I love the tamales. The prices can't get any better (8 bucks for many items). The ambiance is really cute and colorful. The only reason I give it a 4 is because once I ordered an enchilada or something like that and I didn't like the vegetables, they were mushy and didn't taste that fresh (Maybe previously frozen?). NUTSHELL: Waiter inattentive to our needs, food tasted canned/pre-made! I really struggled over this review. Usually I feel single star reviews are a vendetta against the business. As a matter of fact, I resist giving a single star with every fiber but I have to tell of my experience. After the Apple Blossom Parade we looked up YELP reviews on my cell phone and Martha's looked like a hit. We entered the restaurant and our waiter directed us to a table for my family and I. Only four other patrons are visible so I'm feeling really good about eating, enjoying and running. He gave us two menus and left to get us three more. When he returned five minutes later he wanted to take our order. I reminded him that we needed more menus before we decided which garnered an "oh yeah" response. This will not be the last "oh yeah" moment... We now have our menus and wait more than ten minutes to place order. The only way we can eat is for me to get up and request our waiter under the guise of returning our menus. The cook (Martha?) spotted me getting up and said something to our waiter which I hoped would motivate him to responding to our needs in a timely manner. When our food arrived I mentioned we also ordered two sodas for the kids and our waiter says (wait for it) "oh yeah". Two sodas arrive and this will be the LAST time we see him at our table. We see him behind the counter but he never looked our way. Had he looked he would have seen me watching and waving my empty water glass (it stayed empty by the way). THE FOOD: I ordered the authentic fish burrito which was colder than my salad. The fish tasted like it was frozen pre-breaded filets that tasted like Gorton's fisherman caught it back in December. My wife and mother complimented the food (so I'm raising my review to two stars and encouraging them to get their own YELP accounts). By the way, I understand why Wendy H dreams about the warm bean dip ('twas yummy). The waiter informed us that Martha was his mom... so perhaps he's not motivated to hustle. Perhaps restaurants in "Old Mexico" have similar service but I come from "Old SF" and have become accustomed and really appreciate good service. I gave this review two stars because it wasn't absolutely bad but I WILL NOT BE GOING BACK. Sorry Martha! read more
