Delicious Mexican food with a little extra flare that made it just that much better than the traditional. Very accommodating to children. We had a 17-month old with us and the waiter immediately brought her a small bean and cheese burrito to snack on and keep her occupied. I had the shrimp and crab enchiladas; the two sauces were delicious and the shrimp was perfectly cooked and very tender. Their soup is jaw-droppingly delicious and if you get a side salad get the creamy avocado dressing! Our entrees were authentic and rich in flavor. This is probably going to be treated as a anomoly review since there are so many good reviews for this place. I used to manage a restaurant and worked in the restaurant biz for many years so I am less tolerant of bad service. I tip very generously when I get service though. When I first moved to Sebastopol..this place was excellent for the price...good food, good service etc. The last 3 times (this past year) the service has been fairly rude and no up to par. The food is still very good for the price but I have some real problems with the service I received lately and it hasn't been a one-shot thing. I think they have become so successful their formerly really good service has become mediocre. read more

Patio is nice, food is good. We had a nice dinner. However, when we sat down we asked for water, and one person ordered a beer. After 30 minutes and 3 requests we got one water and one beer. Never did get that other water. Our waitress could not be bothered by waiting on us and the bus person did all of her work. Service = no bueno. Hope Martha's can find some better wait staff. I stopped in after work for take out. I ordered the Prawn Fajita dinner and a Sangria while I waited. The price was reasonable. The decor is bright and fun, I like the chairs and tables. The Sangria was great! They had fresh bananas cut up and it was served with a orange slice. The bananas added a ton of great flavor too. The Sangria was great and my ordered came up quickly. The dinner included a salad or soup, I chose the salad with the avocado dressing. The salad was excellent. I was expecting a iceberg lettuce salad but it was a variety of fresh green leafy veggies with beets and a bunch of other veggies. The Fajitas were excellent as well and included mushrooms, always one of my favorites. The Fajitas came with sour cream, guacamole and pico. They also came with Spanish rice and beans and of course tortillas. The entire meal was amazing as was the service, very friendly people. I look forward to visiting again soon! I have to say I have no idea how this place is still in business I've tried this place six or seven times through the years and have never had a decent meal. Every time I come here I feel unwelcome and I feel like I get attitude.the service is atrocious and incredibly unprofessional one time I saw them cleaning the meat in the sink. nobody seems to want to be there. And for god sakes clean your restaurant. I've never had good service or food it's mind bottling how anybody could give this place for stars I've been to a four-star restaurant and this ain't it . Totally transcends the category "ethnic food." This is just good food. Damn good food. As good as they cook it at better restaurants in Mexico. The enchiladas? Delicious. The taco salad? Awesome. The fish tacos with spicy dressing? Golden. In fact, I don't think I've ever gotten anything there that I haven't absolutely loved, with the possible exception of the veggie mix they put in their vegetarian items, which I find a little weird. But let's face it, Mexicans are not vegetarians! Order up a combo plate or one of the specials with a Corona or Negro Modelo served with a frosty mug and you'll think you've won special favors from the Aztec Gods. read more

So we love Martha's. Great food. When I've had a few beers at the Old Main Street Saloon nothing soothes my drunken gut quite like the oh, so decadent Chimichanga. And I'm a big fan of the hot refried bean dip. Friendly staff and cute outdoor seating make this spot near perfect. This place was sooo disappointing! I have no idea how this place has any reviews above 3 stars. The food was just plain horrible. To start off the chips were barely warm, stale, hard but not crunchy. The salsa tasted like tomato sauce and the bean dip was lacking flavor. I ordered from what I think was the lunch menu. There was absolutely nothing right with the enchiladas. The side beans and rice were gross. Beans were dry like if they were powder. Rice had no flavor and also dry. The enchiladas I expected to be wet soft and cheesy. They couldn't be more different. The tortilla was hard and dry. Chicken was dry and no flavor and the sauce was everywhere but on the enchilada. The toppings added nothing, they just made it worse. My friend had the tostada and it was just bad. Nothing good about it. I can't imagine anything on the menu to be better then this two meals, which I thought couldn't be screwed up. To top it off, this place averaged a 15 dollar a plate price. It took everything in my being to not just get up and leave after our first bites. Plainly a disgrace and abomination to Mexican food everywhere. read more

Used to really enjoy coming here and their food. However, a few weeks ago my husband and I went there a little after 6:00 on a Friday evening. There were several tables open and we were the only ones waiting to be seated. A waiter said he would seat us shortly, and proceeded to get drinks, chips & salsa for some tables. After a few minutes I tried to get his attention, but couldn't. We stood there waiting for about ten minutes. A group of about four came in behind us and stood there for about a minute and then decided to walk on past us out to the patio to seat themselves. So we left and went and ate at El Coronel. I don't know why the waiter couldn't have just let us seat ourselves, and there were other staff there that saw us standing there for 10 minutes and wouldn't make eye contact with us. First ill start by saying the only reason i went to this place is because i got a 50% of coupon in the mail. So i thought why not. Service so horrible, we stood by the front door for about ten mins. till somebody seated us and the water glasses were dirty. Now the food. I got a burrito and my wife got a enchilada. My wife said the enchilada was not bad but it was only a cheese enchilada and for my burrito was steak and you could tell that it was cooked next to seafood because it was fishy tasting. I've been to Martha's many times and would never question the food. Always great food!! But the last few times I've been in there with a friend we've had to wait for at least 15 min before our order was taken and almost an hour before we got our food. The last time I was there I had to get up and ask the waiter if he could take our order. They seem to be understaffed. I live in Sebastopol and for some reason we have a pretty hard time getting decent restaurants. Martha's however, is pretty darn good. I'm not saying they're amazing but they have very yummy, authentic Mexican food. Martha is one of the sweetest old lady's ever. Often you'll actually see her behind the counter (she's the cute sweet little old lady). Anyways, the food is pretty bomb. They are a teensy bit more expensive than I would like but certainly nothing absurd. Their bean dip is amazing. Also if you go there, sit on the back patio! It's adorable with a wonderful atmosphere! Basically no major complaints,except their service can be a little sub-par. Not to the point I would say to not go, but it's not a 10. I just wish they were open on Tuesdays, considering that's usually the day of the week I'm craving Mexican food... oh well.
