I stopped into this place as a tourist for the first time visiting Sebastopol. Once I drove by, I knew I would have to try it. I read a couple of reviews online and then decided to give it a try. What a charming little Mexican restaurant. It doesn't matter what I ate, the variety on the menu was outstanding. From the time they opened on a Sunday afternoon, there was a steady stream of people coming in....some of them regulars. I've eaten a few times. Prior to today the food has been good to standard. Service usually standard as well but today the sever had a smirk, not a smile, but a smirk. Today though, the food was really bad, it tasted like yesterday's leftovers. The grill must have been too hot as the veg was black yet raw on the instead. Went to this restaurant based on good reviews. Came in on Sunday evening was pretty full with only one table open. Pretty small place. Eclectic Mexican decore and family run. The problem was there was only one waitress for all the ten tables so service was spotty and slow. Ordered the carne asada plate and my wife had a tamale and house salad. Salad leaves were not fresh but sliced zucchini was nice touch and avocado dressing was good. Carne Asada I had was under seasoned and bland. Ordered it medium and was a bit overdone. The tamale was oversauced so you could barely taste the tamale. Diappointed overall and not impressed with good or service. Overrated. read more

My daughter and 2 year old granddaughter were visiting from Minneapolis and wanted Mexican. We happened to be in Sebastopol, and my daughter found great reviews for this place on her iPhone. They said that San Franciscans come up here regularly. Sounded great to us. We were happy with the choice. The place is funky-cute. Loved the carved chairs with the birds. Service was quick. I had cheese enchiladas, which were creamy, yummy, the best I've had in a long time. The accompanying salad was also right on. My little granddaughter put away an entire serving of guacamole herself. Had lunch as we passed thru town, and what a pleasant experience. A woman who we assumed to be Martha immediately greeted us from behind the counter and offered up the patio, which was so imaginative we had to stay. We have been coming to Martha's for the last several years on our annual trip to the area. Always delicious. Love the complimentary chips, salsa and especially the bean dip. Enchiladas suizas are amazing. Very flavorful and fresh. Topped with perfectly ripe avocado slices - yum! The service is friendly and accommodating, but I wouldn't come here in a hurry. Very good Mexican food. Enchiladas very tasty. Carne Asada tender and tasty. Place filled up fast. We arrived right at 5pm on a Saturday.

Came here with a friend on a Saturday night. We were immediately greeted with a basket of warm chips and some salsa and warm bean dip- both were delicious and I'm pretty sure I could eat those dips with a spoon. I had the sopes with al pastor on top- they were absolutely amazing and a great portion for the price. If you are exploring Sebastopol, make sure you walk up the street to eat at this gem! read more

Went for lunch and got a chicken super burrito. We waited for five minutes before the sight of anyone working there even showed up. We contemplated leaving but just as we hit the door, the cook came and greeted us. We sat ourselves as there wasn't any direction or seating arrangement. We weren't given menus until about five minutes after we sat down. And the waitress didn't even acknowledge our presence once we got to the outdoor seating area. The waitress was cold and less than thrilled with her job, let alone the customers. She took our order and didn't even smile or say anything else before walking away annoyed. My burrito came out with all the fixings (sour cream, guac, salsa) on the side and no beans inside or out of the burrito. It was lukewarm when it was served. I ate only a couple of bites of the burrito and didn't even get a box. The chicken was questionably cooked through and I'll be surprised if I don't get food poisoning from this place. My friend left with a stomach ache from her meal. I'm still upset that I spent money on that. Would not recommend if you're looking for friendly service, quality and COOKED food, and budget friendly dining. read more

The food, as always, was excellent; however, tonight the service was very slow and I didn't get what I ordered beverage wise or entrée wise. I'm still giving this four stars because of the quality of the food. The water person, I do not believe understood English, and I think there was a mixup with our waitperson and the cook with my order. I saw the waitperson make the changes that I wanted to make on her notepad; however, I don't believe the cook picked up on the changes. Our waitperson never did follow up with asking how our food was, did we want a refill on our water, etc. we ended up getting our own water refills. read more

My choice for Mexican in Sebastopol... Great Service.

I've been here before, it was amazing. Today I convinced my family to order from them. While ordering I had to correct them several times (over the phone is difficult especially with masks so I wasn't mad) then they still got the order wrong. This would have been fine but when I made a correction on drinks while checking out, I got attitude. She had given us bottled cokes instead of cokes from the fountain. Which isn't that big of a deal but since I had specified over five times that we wanted coke from the fountain, I wanted to at least have that go right. The price wasn't any different and all that was needed was putting the bottled coke back in the fridge. So nothing was wasted. She got irritated at me, widened her eyes, paused and then said "you don't want bottled?!" I let her know that I had wanted fountain coke. After saying "alright thank you! have a nice night" she turned her back to me and said "yeah.... bye" in a really rude tone. I work in customer service and so I know you can have bad days. But I was in shock. I had done my part in figuring out how to properly order from them, tipped them and still gave a positive attitude, because I know what it's like working during the pandemic. While eating we all noticed that something was off with our food. One of us had all of the wrong ingredients(carrots added and no beans?), one of us got sick (from the pollo loco), and two of us got canned peas in our burritos and enchiladas, which is strange to say the least. It feels like they are substituting quality ingredients with cheap items. When I had been here before the food was amazing and authentic. I'm wondering if they have new owners or are trying to cut costs during this time. Two stars instead of one only because some of the dishes tasted okay. read more

My husband and I ate there tonight, after a glowing recommendation from my best friend. We sat in the patio, and liked that. At first, the service was fine, not great, but went downhill fast. We had to get our own water refills, and the servers were barely polite. And inattentive, too. After receiving our food, we didn't see our server again until it was time to get our bill. The fajitas were okay, but barely. The salsa was good, but the chips were overcooked. We were disappointed, because we'd heard such good comments about this restaurant. Needless to say, we won't return. Oh, and the walk-in cooler wasn't that clean either (you pass by it on the way to the patio). read more

If you want hearty, good Mexican food, RUN to Martha's ASAP! I've been coming here for about 6 years now and have NEVER been disappointed. The two waitress /managers Gina and The other very nice lady ( whose name begins with "N" ) ,I won't do the indignity of misspelling or mispronouncing are very classy savvy businesswomen who know how to please their patrons. If you've never had MOLE', or Huevos Rancheros, I could go on and on but, the whole Menu is great. I'm always greeted with a warm smile and my food served in a timely manner. Carnitas were very dry. They also had mushrooms and bell peppers which I thought was kinda odd. Beans and rice were bland. Tortilla spinach soup was sour. Food wasn't horrible but I think undeserving of 4 stars. There are a lot better restaurants nearby. read more

Best Mexican Food in the area by a mile. When they bring your plate of food it looks like a work of art, seriously. The chef really knows what they're doing. They only care about one thing at this restaurant, that you get an amazing plate of good food. The service can be a tad slow during the busy times, but the food is so fresh who cares. Our family enjoys a meal now and then at Martha's Old Mexico. The people are friendly, the food is tasty and served in very adequate portions. My son enjoys all the dishes he has eaten, but he especially likes the salsa and the bean dip served with chips before dinner. The seating areas give you choices, with one choice a small "patio" open on one side to the outside (behind the restaurant and looking onto a woodsy hillside garden). The prices are fair for the quality of food that is prepared, which is completely amazing recipes and all made from scratch. To save money, there are cheap combination plates and it is a huge amount of food you can do it 1 or 2 items of amazing fish tacos, chicken or shredded beef burritos, chicken tamale, or chili rellano. They let you substitute this amazing fresh salad with intricate slices of beets, zuccini, tomato, some beans, and these small tiny little chips they fry up and dust the salad with topped with a home made dressing, instead of the beans and rice. The place is over the top excellent. Sometimes the service is slow, to be expected when they take such care making your meal. Another amazing thing is they have years of perfect food inspection scores, the best rating, so you know the standards are high and you will not be getting ill eating here. read more
