Tonight was my last night in KW and I was looking for a great place to eat. Martins came highly recommended. The ambiance was wonderful and each dish was better than expected. I was intrigued by the surf and turf option but ended up ordering off of the tapas menu for reasons I'll get to in a sec. We sit down and are greeted immediately. C is soft spoken and super polite as she asks if wed like to start with water and offers wine. This was the last proper thing we encountered as far as the FOH service. We were half way through deciding what app we should choose when we realized based on the sign next to us on the front door that tapas was also an option and that there were three different specials which we were never told about. We order the scallops and didn't see our waitress again until she brought them to us. She set my plate on my menu and said "I'll be right back". And walked away from me and my my empty glass of water. We finished are scallops and then she showed up to take are plates and ask if we wanted to order food. We placed our order and she walked away. Menus still on the table. Never offered bread refills coffee, tea, or dessert. Just simply said "what's next". I felt like I desserved the 20 percent tip I left her, seeing as I did all the work. While this is happening it is now her turn again to be seated and a table of 20 something kids come in and sit next to us. They waited way to long for our shared waitress to greet them. They commented on the problem and then walked out. I never felt like a guest and would question any general manager's idea of training with service this piss poor. read more

Not privileged to the opportunity! On 11/4/2018, my wife and I visited Martin's as our last stop in Key West. The entry with its large lanai doors and subtle ambiance enticed us. We decided to stop and have a small snack before leaving Key West but was met at the door by one of the [White] men (I hesitate to say gentleman) sitting at the bar. As my wife and I discussed having a drink vs food, the man stated that it didn't matter because "we're closed." The place didn't look closed, but assuming the best, I asked if I could at least use the restroom. The man responded, "I assume that you didn't." My wife and I, both African American, were shocked. The man smirked and returned to the bar. As a retired peace officer and veteran, and my wife a senior administrator at a major educational institution, and albeit we hold 7 degrees between us, we realized that we had seriously misjudged the inviting appearance of this place! Although this restaurant looks quite beautiful, it should have been a warning when we arrived and there were very few people inside when the restaurant next door was packed. The food was overpriced and mediocre. I had the yellowtail capri. The fish was cooked well, but the vegetables that accompanied it were over steamed, very limp, and muddy looking. My husband had the beef wellington special, which was less than impressive. He said it tasted like pot roast, which isn't terrible but not what it should have been. read more

Came here for dinner tonight for our one year wedding anniversary. First off the place is so nice and well decorated. Second our server was absolutely amazing and super helpful with the menu. 3rd, everything we had from the lamb osso buco was off the charts as well as the schnitzel that I had. An absolutely great experience. The icing on the cake was the table next to us bought us a great bottle of champagne. This was our first time in key west and will definitely be back!!!! read more

Today was my husband's birthday and we are celebrating it at the Keys. There was 3 adults and 2 kids. We picked Martin's because they had a good menu. The waiter took our order and after a VERY long time the food was brought up, except they forgot one order!!! We call the waiter and the waiters asks my husband did he order something...was he kidding? After we told him what he ordered he went to the kitchen. He came back blaming the confusion on thr kitchen when in fact he FORGOT to put that order in. We called the manager and the only thing the manager said is what can I do to make this better. This restaurant must have been the worst one I have ever been to and that includes fast food joints. We walked out of there without looking back. Terrible customer service, terrible waiter, terrible conflict resolution. We did not even get an apology. read more

4.5 out of 5 stars. One word...yummy. It looks petty fancy from the street, but this is Key West. My wife and I were hungry and love Tapas, so I went in dressed in shorts and a Jimmy Buffett t-shirt. After spending the day nibbling and drinking our way up and down Duval. A tapas dinner with a nice glass of wine sounded perfect. To echo Jonah's highlights, the wine list was decent although limited in what was available by the glass and the bread was warm. In addition, I must say the service was friendly and attentive. That is it for the highlights. We decided to start out with three items. First we tasted the Lobster medallions servied with a french cognac cocktail sauce. These were tasty but not as good as I would have liked or expected. Next on to the Shrimp and Scallop skewers which left us wondering where's the scallop? In addition we found the shrimp to be overcooked and not very tasty. On to the last dish Pork Tenderloin & Bermuda Onion Skewer. The pork was cooked nicely but the flavors were just OK. Overall, I would not recommend this restaurant. I believe there are better choices at this price point in Key West. read more

Been to key west twice, this past christmas and two years ago. This restaurant (coming from a New England chef) is the best on the island, hands down. Had cocktails at the bar and decided to have dinner. Great service and prompt. We shared a salad and it was good. I had the rib eye with lobster tail on the side, the meat was grilled to my liking and the lobster tail was succulent. My other half had the filet mignon with lobster tail as well and was just prepared beautifully. Quite honestly, I was pleasantly surprised. I would recommend this place who wants to have a good meal on Duval Street. One of my favorite place in Key West. read more

A German themed restaurant (well, a portion of the menu) and a great find. It's a unique alternative to the tourist trap restaurants here on the island. I had the Grouper Dijon which was fresh, tasty and a substantial portion. Well worth the money. Bonus- service was amazing. read more

I'm pretty surprised some people gave this 5 stars. We had a whole group that went in thinking it was a tapas bar. They do have a Tapas menu and several of my friends ordered from it but the portions were small (3 shrimp, a small sausage on red sauerkraut both around $9) I had a fish dish that was around $30. Lets say I left pretty hungry and I'm 140 Lbs. Another friend paid close to $30 for a chicken breast stuffed with spinach. It was pretty good, but not that good. Oh, and the service was terrible. I asked for water 3 times and it never came. The whole group agreed it was kind of a bust and our money would have been better spent elsewhere. This is the best happy hour ever! All tapas are 50 percent off as well as their wines by the glass. This means they don't put on special all their cheap food and drinks like most places. Highly recommend! read more

Dinner here Friday night after driving in from Miami. It was just ok, service average, food average. Better options exist.

While strolling down Duval Street, the substantial tapas menu offered by Martins intrigued our group. It seemed like a great stop for a late afternoon snack, but it was anything but. Martin's seems to be a German(??!!??) themed tapas restaurant with some seafood emphasis (since it is in Key West, of course) that trends toward the expensive side of things. This place did have very nice ambiance, with a well decorated outdoor seating area and ample drink options, including various types of German beers. However, the food was another matter entirely. My wife and I ordered one mushroom based tapas which was pretty flavorless and rubbery and another called the "Curry Wurst", probably because it was the "Worst" thing on the menu. We were expecting a German sausage made with curry seasoning or maybe even a nice curry sauce over it, but instead, were treated to a rubbery hot dog completely covered in ketchup with a dusting of curry powder on the top. The chef of this restaurant should be embarrassed to have sent this monstrosity out of the kitchen. It is truthfully one of the worst things I have EVER been served at a restaurant. The one positive was our server, who was extremely friendly and efficient. She seemed a bit embarrassed about the food too. She should be! Duval Street has an amazing concentration of dining options, this one should most definitely be avoided! read more

Not good! Half the tapas posted on the outside menu weren't on the menu that they gave us in the restaurant. Food was not tasty, the Fettuccine was just drenched in a non-flavorful sauce. My mushroom app was overcooked and greasy . I suggest trying somewhere else for dinner. read more

Five stars because it is exactly what it is supposed to be. A dress-code casual, but also a quiet and refined, restaurant serving excellently prepared dishes using quality ingredients. The menu does not present a large number of choices, but offers enough choices between land and sea some with a German influence. The wine list, while not extensive, is perfectly appropriate for the menu. Service was appropriate; neither aloof nor obsequious. This is definitely not a party atmosphere, typical Key West tourist trap. Go elsewhere for that. I will definitely be back here. read more

Fresh lobster was the only saving grace. They charged us around 500% mark up on the wine. (Gascon Malbec for 70$$$$!!). They we're clever in the description so I didn't recognize. We ordered the lobster bisque and the crab cakes. Both were ok. Then the surf and turf. Lobster was good. The filet was the cheapest you can buy on the market. Very grainy. The mashed potatoes were made of the brown Idaho not red or golden. Very starchy. Very bad. Learned to cook better than this when I was 18. Pathetic. read more

Dined there last night with family. Service was attentive, if not perfect. I asked about their selection of bourbons and was told "Knob Creek. We might have others but I don't know what they are." I replied that while Knob Creek would suffice, I'd appreciate knowing what others were available. He returned with a glass of Knob Creek, without the single ice cube I requested. We also had to ask several times for olive oil for our bread. The menu was attractive and wine list fairly extensive. Having eaten seafood all week, I was in the mood for beef. Ordered a dry-aged bone-in ribeye. It came at the correct temperature, but no bone in sight and it needed salt and generous swipes in the underlying sauce. Somewhat disappointing. My sides were fine, but the couscous accompanying my wife's lobster was so dry, it was inedible. I'm being rather critical here, but at nearly $100/pp, dinner should be spot on. I had the best beef Wellington I think I have had in years. My wife's food was wonderful as well. I was VERY put off when I ordered a martini and the waiter was asked to come back to The table to ask if it was OK for them to charge an additional dollar for olives! Being we were in a first class restaurant and ordering extremely high priced cocktails this was unacceptable! I did get over the aloes once the beef Wellington came because it was so spectacular. I asked to speak to the owner chef to complement him on the beef Wellington and watched him brush his hand as if we were too little for him to see. Don't eat too many olives read more

We were so looking forward to eating here. We called and asked if they were dog friendly- and they said come on by it's slow. So we brought our 3 pups who are very well behaved ( 2 of them are trained service dogs and the 3 rd is a canine good citizen) . When we arrived no one was eating there - it was empty. The manager said we could not eat there because we had pups. There was no one eating there- the place was empty when several other restaurants were hopping. We just left and couldn't believe how arrogant this person was. We would never ever eat here when there are so many pet friendly and welcoming restaurants in Key West. Went here for a late nite snack, with a party of 7. We ate light,all having tapas. The decor was upscale, somewhat small wine selection, mostly European beers. The food and service were excellent. I had a baked brie that was exquisite. Also had a tuna Takika that was equally as good. Not inexpensive but happy hours with 1/2 off drinks and tapas menus. Yuck! We wanted small plates and this looked interesting. The lobster bisque tasted strongly fishy the grilled vegetables were boiled not grilled. The one good dish was tuna tatarika. The mojito was overly sweet as was the key lime Martini. read more

My friends and I found Martin's by riding down Duval and picking a random restaurant. We were happy with our choice. They have both a normal menu and a tapas menu. I had the duck confit from the normal menu and it was really great. One of my friends had the jagerschnitzel and it was superb. Another friend ordered from the tapas menu and they were all high quality. The place is pretty trendy and we were a bit underdressed in t-shirts and shorts, but that didn't seem to be a problem with the staff. The waiter was a little gruff, but not rude. Definitely worth a try, as it is probably the only German restaurant on the island. read more

We had dinner at Martin's over 2 years ago an our previous trip, and stopped in again here this time because we were so impressed. It is nice to see they have not lost anything in between visits. Everything was excellent. We had champagne to start, and then an Extensive wine list to choose from, so picked a nice California Chardonnay. The appetizers all all good, this time we had escargot, and scallops with spinach and bacon covered in a gouda cheese, both prepared perfectly. I had the fresh grouper stuffed with crab with a unique white sauce that was so delicious. We got there early, around 5:30 so it was not very busy which was nice, fast service and very quiet, except for the noise from Duval Street, but we sat outside, and i am sure if you site inside the street noise is blocked. We were in the mood for some Martini's after all the walking on Duval. We walked past and decided to try it. We sat in the garden which was secluded and peaceful. Our server was very personable, knowledgable, and patient. We ordered the grouper and snapper florentine. Both were very, very good. The fish was so fresh. The menu is a bit pricey but had several great options. Also the meal progression was a bit slow but I think that is more typical than what we are used to in Chicago. Our martini's only came with 1 olive which seemed odd for how much they were. However, When asked for more the waiter had no problem with bringing them and they were perfectly made. I hear their Happy Hour is great so we will be back for that!! read more

Don't know why everyone is hatin' on this place. We went in with a large party with no reservations and had one the best meal of our trip. Sure, it's expensive, but so are the crappy restaurants in KW. This is a classy place with a nice atmosphere and as mentioned the food was top notch. Not one person in our large and picky party had anything but good things to say about the food and our waiter (I think his name was Bailey) was first class and handled our loud and obnoxious group with no stress. Dinner was a little pricey for key west but it was a pretty good experience overall. We had the lobster medallions for our appetizer. The lobster was a little bland, coming from new england, my lobster expectations are pretty high. So skip the lobster medallions. We both had filet mignon which was cooked & seasoned to perfection. Served with mashed potatoes and asparagus, both of which were tasty. The atmosphere felt upscale and the drinks were very good. Its located away from the loud raucus side of Duval street, so that was a welcomed reprieve. All said and done, a good experience and worth a second visit. read more
