Four of us Key West regulars had dinner at Martin's on a stormy night. It was so nice eating in their air conditioned dining room. Our food, our drinks, were among the best meals we have had here in K W. Chef Martin does a great job with the German classics, fresh seafood and pasta. His lobster comes fresh from the day boats. See our photos for the entrees we tried. Skip was our server. He was great at keeping our crowded table clean and orderly. He is very knowledgeable about the menu. Beautiful spot and fun atmosphere but a few issues while dining. First, hostess was rude. She had a strong accent, maybe Russian. We asked to change tables because it was very hot outside and no fans were blowing on us and my 75yo Mom was getting over heated. I get it, staff aren't a fan of table changes...but...after 10 years of working fine dining myself you smile and do it anyway. The hostess was rude about it. Not a fan and not a great way to start our first meal in KW. Our uber driver recommended this place since his friend worked there so upon arrival we asked for her if she was available, no big deal if she wasn't. Hostess was rude about us asking for some reason and we clearly said it's not an issue if her section is full. The waitress was very sweet but was in the weeds. I have no problem being patient with waitstaff in the weeds...been there. However when you wait over 45min for your food and coffees come out like warm after seeing them sit on the bar for 10min and then you forget wine orders (also could see them sit on the bar for 5-10min) and forget part of the meal (which got delivered as we were finishing) that's when I get a bit frustrated. She did apologize but eventually she was a bit checked out and the vibe was off. Throughout the meal we were kind, never complained, and still tipped her 20% bc that's what we do. Sadly we were treated like annoying tourists which was disappointing. Lastly, our food took forever and was mediocre. Tables that arrived after us got their food first and then once we did get our food she had forgotten part of the order that was eventually delivered towards the end of the meal. Is what it is. Some restaurants are simply places to dine. Martin's is part of my Key West story. I have been enjoying Martin's since 1998, when it was located on Appleroth Lane, and after all these years, I still love this place. The food is consistently exceptional, the service is warm and attentive, and the ambience feels both refined and wonderfully relaxed. The schnitzel, Maine lobster, and pastas are among my favorites, although honestly, I have never found anything on the menu I did not enjoy. The martinis are outstanding, too. Martin's also offers one of the best happy hours in Key West, now twice each evening, from 4:00 to 5:00 and again from 9:30 to 10:30, with all appetizers half price. Located on Duval Street near Truman Avenue, it is perfectly situated in the heart of Old Town. After nearly three decades of dining here, Martin's remains one of my favorite Key West restaurants. Very nice restaurant to have a dinner date with a significant other or a girls night out. We sat outside in their back patio. Really nice night with a full moon out. Had the lobster bisque. Had lots of lobster chunks and I definitely tasted the cognac alcohol. They provided complimentary bread with butter. Had their Lobster fettuccine and it was very good. I recently celebrated my Christmas Day birthday dinner here on the back patio. A perfect evening with amazing cuisine and great service! The patio truly encompasses island with lush tropical plants all around. A truly romantic experience with small lamps on the tables. I had an interesting experience there. Food good, drinks good etc until some friends of the bartender came in with their big dog. Vlad ? the bartender ran over and loved all over that beautiful dog. The problem started when he went right back to work without washing his hands. I asked to not touch my glass etc. He became irate and swore that he had washed his hands. He had not. I watched. He proceeded to tell me to leave and to never come back. Fine with me. I have standards, I wish they did too. I call him Vlad because he has a Russia accent. Too bad. Had dinner here to celebrate my friend's birthday. Their menu doesn't indicate any GF items so had to ask the server. He seemed fairly knowledgeable about celiac/GF. We shared a cheese tray which was delicious. I opted for sides - mashed potatoes and asparagus with burgundy sauce as my entree. I did order a key lime martini but the rim had what looked to be graham cracker on it. The server replaced it without anything on the rim just to be sure. I also had a key lime crème brûlée for dessert. The server bought out something special for the birthday girl too. Showed up on a Friday evening that wasn't too busy and ended up getting a good seat. That's where it started to go downhill. Service was slow and our waiter didn't really seem to care about helping us at all. We were there over two hours, which sometimes can be a good thing, but unfortunately for what we paid, the time wasn't well spent. We always have a good experience here. Their happy hour is great with 1/2 price wine and martinis and 1/2 price tapas. The dinner service is also very good. We had the wienerschnitzel, grouper and beef wellington. Sides are separate and we shared spatzle, roast vegetables and red cabbage. Everything was great. The fish was a large portion and perfectly cooked. The wienerschnitzel was delicious and crisp and the beef wellington was perfectly cooked. Everything looked and tasted great. Service was attentive and the atmosphere is nice with both indoor and outdoor seating. The outdoor is a pleasant little yard away from the noise on Duval. I highly recommend Martin's. read more

We enjoyed our Christmas Day dinner here at Martin's in Key West! The restaurant has a nice vibe with both indoor and outdoor seating as well as a bar. For dinner, I had one of their specials, Lobster risotto. It was good! Creamy, well seasoned, and with a surprisingly healthy amount of lobster in it. My only critique of it is that the lobster was a little chewy. My family had the yellowtail Capri and chicken breast. The yellowtail had a nice sauce on it that was very tasty. I didn't try any of the chicken breast but my family member reported that it lacked a little flavor in the entire dish. Our martini's were very well made and balanced. My favorite was the lavender gin martini that I had. The service was friendly, albeit a little slow. But, it was Christmas so I'm sure they had been busy all night. read more

The lamb chops are to die for!!! We went with the German cuisine and had the jaeger schnitzel, Spaetzle and red cabbage. Amazing. We were so full there was no room for desert. Wonder service, nice atmosphere. We will return. read more

I've come here a few times and it's a solid place to eat downtown! I've come for happy hour and regular dinner time and have enjoyed the food each time. The drinks I feel are poured strong, so that's nice too! My favorite thing to order is the schnitzel strips. They're lightly fried and cooked to perfection. I ordered the Caesar salad last time I went and didn't love it. Not a lot of dressing and the tomatoes threw me off (wasn't expecting that in a Caesar). I've never sat inside, always outside but it's nice, there's a cover so it's not like the sun is hitting you directly. read more

Our server Tripp was definitely an enthuthiastic fellow. Went primarily for their "special" beff wellington not many ever make or much less make any good if so, and we were not disappointed. This includes the world famous Chef Ramsey of Hell's Kitchen who claim this as his signature dish. Anyway Hell's Kitchens aren't any good but Martin's is worth it. We would have liked a little more foie gras and slightly less mushrooms, but nonetheless very good. So was they're baked brie and the pate dishes. read more

On Thursday, a waiter with short brown hair, probably in his twenties, was rude and arrogant to my party of six. We sat in the front overflow room and were 3 couples traveling to Key West. Everyone heard me ask the waiter if we could pay for three separate checks. After the overrated and overpriced dinners were consumed, said waiter brought a single bill to the table and said we never asked for 3. I objected and was told if I asked him nice, he might split the bill. He never did and we left after wasting our evening trying to figure out who owed what. read more

The problem was my date and I wanted to have a casual drink before ordering. The sever came back several times asking if we were ready to order. We said when we are done with the drinks we will order. He came back and said if you you are not going to order food you must move to the bar. We said when we are ready we will order. I was not happy with the comment. There were no other people coming in. Later I asked him if we spent enough money for him. He was very apolitical for the comment saying it came from the manager. So this will be a mixed review. We chose the restaurant because they advertised Beef Wellington on the front door. My husband loves beef Wellington. So made a reservation. Our server was a nice young man with an accent. Our server told us about the specials. One being Beef Wellington. He said it was cooked rare to mid rare. When we ordered husband asked to have it cooked more med to med well. Server said it couldn't be done. It would burn the puff pastry. I know it can be done without burning the pastry because that's how I make it at home. So husband was put off. He ordered a 7oz Filet med well with Rosemary Potatoes. I got the Yellowtail Snapper Special with a Crab Cake and Asparagus. We both got Caesar Salad. I really liked the Yellowtail and crab cake. The Asparagus was well cooked ( not over cooked ). Husband's Filet was very well done which I thought tasted great but he was disappointed. The rosemary potatoes we both agreed had way too much rosemary. On Yelp I saw a Chocolate Torte listed on a menu. When he told us the dessert he didn't mention the tort. So I asked. He said oh yes we do have that, and asked if that's what we really wanted. When the "Tort" came out it was chocolate ganache on a plate in the shape of a heart. The plate was dusted with icing sugar and raspberry sauce and half a strawberry. This was $9.50 and this was not a tort. The service was super casual ( slow drawn out ). The bill did not reflect what we thought was the taste and quality of the meal. With Tip and I did still generously was close to $200. We have had some fabulous fantastic meals before that were worthy of the price point... this was not. read more

This is my second time here in a week. Key West! The staff is exceptional! The bartenders know their craft, and are easy on the eyes. A deadly combination for customer service and a wine list. The location is prime on Duval, and the weather is perfect! With a garden setting, low lighting and kitchen with an experienced chef, what else can you ask for on vacation. Sarah & Vivian make this place glow! It's the place to unwind and relax after a long day of sunshine and day drinking Solo or with a partner. I had the grilled lamb chops, and indulge in the Lamb Osso Bucco with a Burgundy Wine Sauce. Chris and I came here for the happy hour and tapas. The restaurant is elegant with a gorgeous indoor dining area and a shady outdoor terrace. Initially we were not sure that we could dine here because we were in shorts and t-shirts due to the hot weather and intense sun. Upon entering we immediately saw that everyone else was casually dressed and we were welcomed in by the friendly host. We arrived on Thursday evening at 4pm for the start of the happy hour. We dined on the terrace and it has sail shades which provide the shade. Large pillar fans were also on the terrace. Chris and I ordered the schnitzel, the mixed salad with strawberries, mango and bleu cheese with a balsamic vinaigrette. We also ordered the crab cakes plus an order of the baked Brie served with greens, a split pear and with a fig compote and rosemary bread. The cocktails are priced at $6.25 during happy hour which is essentially half priced. We ordered the key lime martinis plus the Sauvignon Blanc wine. The food and drinks exceeded our expectations. The portions were generous enough that we skipped dinner. We enjoyed grazing on the food and sipping our drinks and making friends with adjacent patrons. It was truly fun to strike up conversations with the patrons on either side of our table and we enjoyed hanging out with them the duration of our visit. Been coming to this establishment for years and waited in line for the happy hour which we've done for years. A pack of 12 people were in front of us and as a party of three 1) we were embarrassed and had to call out we were not with them and 2) a bald "gentleman" and a woman with long hair called out (loudly) sorry we cannot let someone in with a tank top. My spouse and I have been there before AND the party of 12 had women in similar "less dress". Disappointed where this place has slipped, won't be coming back and be sure to let others also know this is how you treat people. Love your food, how you treat people... not so much. If this is truly your policy, you should make sure it is clear on your website as when we checked as of 26 November 2024 was not the case. Well I am happy we went to dinner here though it was not our first choice, but we opted out of another place when we did not like the appearance of it. Sometime place embellish their establishments photos. Martin's food was very good and service was very good too. As you are aware in the Keys humidity is a huge factor some days, and when this happens, it is nice to have cloth tablecloth, or at least cocktail napkins under your drinks so when you take a drink, it does not leave your clothes soaking wet. There were three of us we sat on the bar side, which from an ambience standpoint is the better spot to sit. The other side has the cloth tablecloths and is a closed room with air conditioning. The bar side has the patio doors wide open, yet over the entryway, which is open, there is an air curtain, which is running for some unknown reason. If you're going use an air curtain it should only be run if that's the only entrance that's open, and secondly, it should fit the entranceway. This one does not however, it falls short. Really my review here is if you want great food and great service. This is a great place. The rest of my review is meant merely to identify a few tweaks to make them 5 star worthy. The place definitely could use a little updating. God is in the details. We plan on dining here again, so hope to give that 5th star read more

Okay so we were excited to come here as a few locals recommended. The experience was very two fold. Great ambiance and great server Susan our server was awesome everything else underwhelming . The filets say prime there is no way its prime or was it cooked medium rare as requested. Under seasoned and bland the sauces were also bland. My wife's was cooked better but again not prime beef that says on menu, but she was very hungry and ate it besides the fact. We came in happy left underwhelmed. It's unfortunate but we have eaten at amazing places and this was sub par. Maybe just a one off it happens but the steak lacked any seasoning or flavor .. the drinks were good. And the caprese salad was cherry tomatos slices in half and mozzarella balls on arugula with balsamic, nothing great that you could not make at home. They did take off the one steak, however when the CC bill came for the tip the steak was not off. One said 116 but after running the CC it was 176. Had to get up to get that corrected. Azure and I landed in Key West after a 4 hour flight delay, tossed our bags in the hotel and headed down Duval for a drink. We saw Martins and decided it was the perfect place to stop. Vivian greeted us at the bar with a smile and asked what we would like to drink. Azure had a glass of wine and I ordered a Coors. Martins does not have Coors, so Vivian suggested a great alternative. She was great! She told us she would be serving the following night and suggested we come in for dinner. We are so glad we did! The food was delicious and the service matched!
