It was recommended to us on facebook via a post we made looking for where to buy Rosca de Reyes, Martizz was repeatedly recommended & now I understand why. As soon as you step in you are welcomed in with the irresistible aroma of freshly baked bread. The staff is so helpful, the Rosca is fresh, soft & delicious, I think the best we've ever had. We loved that they have a platter of sliced rosca for you to sample in the bakery. We got two roscas with cream cheese & blueberry filling. This would've gotten 5 stars. Yesterday I came by and bought the cheese danish with the peach on it. So good. Juicy peach, sweet cheese, and flaky pastry. Today I came in and bought the same thing. It looked like it had been sitting there. The peach had wrinkles on it. It was smooth the day before. But I maybe I'm wrong.. nope. It was day old. Stale and nasty. I first came here when I went to Su Casa Marquez because the smell of pan dulce is intoxicating. But y'all, guess what I found? Gelatinas las flores! I have been wanting one for a birthday cake since I was a little girl. I asked everywhere back in the fall trying to find one for my birthday but no luck. They have them here! Big ones and little ones! They are so beautiful! It goes without saying the are a panaderia and little mercado. They have a lovely selection and their conchas are delicious. Buy some Abuelita and masa and have a concha with some champurrado for breakfast. And then go for a really long walk because it's a lot of carbs but you will love every bite and have a blessed day full of joy because conchas and champurrado are life. read more

Overall their fresh bread is amazing and cakes are great always in stock for last minute birthday pick up. The store is small and unorganized. They charge a fee is you spend under $10 dollars. I stopped by after finding out su casa marquez was closed on Monday. Trying to get my Mexican fix I wandered next door. To my surprise the pastries were pretty inexpensive ranging from $.50 to $1.50. We grabbed maybe six or seven pastries which totaled around $5. The pastry itself isn't sweet allowing the filling--fruit, cream, custard, jam--to shine. They had a large variety for such a small bakery. (I think they should expand to savory pastries too. That would be so delicious!) My only gripe is the pastries don't have the price labeled. I had to ask the cashier for the prices. The cashier was very helpful. He recommended pastries and did not rush us. He was great! read more

Best Pan Dulce around!!! I would drive over into Pdx before -but never again! Staff were extremely friendly and made a Tres Leches cake for our large event. All guests LOVED it and it even had a layer of cheesecake!!! No one else in Vancouver would make a tres leches cake this size. So glad we happened upon this place. While they don't offer quite as big a selection as the panaderias back in San Antonio...what they do offer is quite delicious. And really, there is always enough of a selection for you to have three or four (or more) goodies to take home. Our boys LOVE their conchinitos (little pig cookies, though the cookies are anything but little). Bakeries tend to make these cookies in different ways. The ones here are very, very big and more cake-like than crunchy. Not spicy either. You'll find your conchas, empanadas, orejas, cuernitos, polvorones...plus other harder-to-find items like piedras (my favorite). They also have a variety of bread including talera, semita and bollios. We've gone in four times so far (uh, and just found out about this place like two weeks ago, so there you have it). Everyone has been incredibly friendly and very helpful when it comes to telling me the names of everything. Even though I'm from San Antonio and Hispanic, I still can't recall the names of ALL pan dulce. :) Give this place a try - you'll go back! Plus, we picked up a bag full of treats for around 4.00. Enough goodies for an after school treat for two boys, pan dulce with coffee for us and extras for the next day. read more

I'll admit it, I'm a gringo with a penchant for pan dulce. It's a true fusion of French and Mexican baking that keeps me coming back. Although other tiendas in Vancouver have a limited selection, the best place I've found so far is Martiiz. While perhaps not up to the selection of panaderias in Hillsboro or Woodburn (thus my 1 star deduction), it's definitely closer. So walk in, grab a tray and tongs, and get to work! For the beginner, the apple filled pastry (think apple turnover) is excellent. The round corn meal pastry is delicious. Just about all of the pastries are a lot more subtle in sweetness than the typical sugary mess of an American pastry, so adjust your taste buds accordingly. If you're confused on a filling, just ask the friendly bi-lingual cashier. I haven't yet nailed down whether or not they bake a pumpkin filled empanada, but I'm hoping that's coming as we move into autumn. read more

THE WORST POSSIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE I HAVE EVER SEEN!!!!! The cakes are ok. If you pick one up from the case they are alright, but a little on the spendy side. If you order ahead prepare for them to either completely mess your cake up or be MORE THAN AN HOUR LATE FOR A WEDDING CAKE!!!!!! Yeah, because of them my wedding started late. I went in 2 times to go over the plan. Told them the name, description and time the lady would be picking up my cake and they wrote it all down but she got there 15 minutes early and they told her they had no cake for us at all! Then she calls me while I'm getting ready for my wedding and I had to send front and back pictures of my reciept. My first reciept they gave me when I ordered, as well as his handwritten "agreement" of how it would look and the fact that I had to pay an ADDITIONAL $20 more than what was agreed on. The reason for this was because his coworker and brother "forgot to tell me it was an extra $20 for a base for the cake" I was upset about this especially 3 days before my wedding but was assured that it was only a DEPOSIT and I could bring back the base anytime to get my $20 back. Fast forward a little less than 6 weeks later, I had my honeymoon, family in town and a million other things to do that you have after a wedding. In addition to that I was still pretty upset about my cake being late so I figured I would take it when I had the time, especially since they gave no time limit whatsoever. I tried to return it very nicely and the same guy who took my order started arguing telling me it was too long ago because it's been a month!!!!! As soon as he got rude with me I said hold on you guys were an hour late with my cake! I had to send a member of my wedding party to pickup they were supposed to be in Beaverton!!!! He said that's not our problem she was early. Well I have the proof via text, phone calls ans his handwritten notes on the reciept. (All receipts are handwritten on a transfer pad) They were late with my cake, never apologized, were rude to both people who tried to pickup my cake (probably because I had already paid for it 3 days prior) Then yelled in my face argued with me tossed the $20 at me when I started pointing out what he did to me. I'm really sad because we did like getting out birthday cakes there. So much so that once when we found meal worms and moths in their pumpkin seeds, we called to let them know so that they could take care of the issue before the health department got involved. They never even said thankyou for that, in fact they acted bothered. We chalked it up to them maybe being busy. They have a huge lack of communication between employees, terrible customer service and the cakes are good. Thankfully we found Dulce Tentacion right where the old Julia Bakery used to be and they HAVE Amazing Customer service!! They also have better tasting and cheaper cakes. I will take my business there from now on. All I expected was the refund of the $20 cake plate I was returning as well as maybe an apology for causing my wedding to start an hour late. I had to pay $107 for an extra hour at my venue. Please don't make the same mistake. Go to someone who appreciates your business! read more
