First time trying Marujuu after seeing their new burgers on Instagram. Made reservations for Wednesday night at 5 pm. Got seated pretty quickly and staff was quick to explain the menu. I ordered the hambagu/ribeye combo with onion sauce and my friend got the hambagu with fried oysters and Gorgonzola sauce. We also ordered the fried broccoli. There was a clear broth with chunks of ground beef and onion in it which is refillable. It was warming and very tasty. Helped myself to a second cup while waiting for our food. Our food arrived sizzling hot, sauces on the side in a small gravy boat. We also received a small plate of rice and was informed that this too was refillable. The steak and hambagu were both very juicy and cooked to my preference. The sauce is what really made the dish though. I ended up pouring some on my rice, it was that good! The fried broccoli was also a big favorite on our table. It was crunchy and seasoned perfectly! As someone who normally dislikes broccoli, I could come here and eat tho everyday! My brother has been talking about wanting to go to Marujuu for a while now, so we visited on a Friday afternoon after work-- and it was a pleasant experience for the both of us. This is my second time here and my brother's first time. We were warmly greeted (in Japanese) by staff, and the restaurant walls are filled with posters of anime which I find really cool. We started off with the soup, which was light but flavorful. I remember the soup being different from the first time I came here, but this new version is actually much better. My brother ordered the Hamburg & Ribeye with Gorgonzola Cheese Sauce ($36), and he couldn't stop saying how much he liked the dish. He loves to eat beef and rich & creamy dishes, so it was the perfect choice for him. I ordered Hamburg & Fried Oysters with Grated Daikon Ponzu Sauce ($30), and I was surprised at how the sauce was able to cut through the richness of the hamburg and oysters, giving a really balanced flavor profile. They also have a corner when you can grab your own refills for rice and soup (it's unlimited!). Absolutely delicious and such a great experience! Marujuu was such a great find in Honolulu! The food was excellent, and the service was fantastic. I had the Classic Hamburg with the house special curry sauce, and it was absolutely amazing. The burger was flavorful and perfectly complemented by the curry sauce. I also loved that it came with unlimited rice and beef stock soup with onions--such a great combination and a really satisfying meal. We went on a Friday night without a reservation and were pleasantly surprised to be seated immediately at the counter bar. The service was friendly, attentive, and made the whole experience even better. One thing to note is that it does get a little smoky inside from the hamburgs cooking, so our clothes smelled a bit like smoke afterward. Food was pretty good for the price! The soup was delicious and it was free refills for rice and soup! My friends and I went in at 8PM, when it closed at 9PM. We got a variety of sauces, but I got the regular one! We sampled each other's dishes and they were really flavorful! Note: New Menu just dropped in June 2026 If you're into Japanese-style hamburger steak and sizzling platters, this spot delivers. The hamburger steak was juicy, flavorful, and came out piping hot on the iron plate. The sauces paired perfectly with the meat, and the portion size was satisfying without feeling overly heavy. What I really liked was the old-school Japan steakhouse vibe. Nothing overly fancy--just good comfort food done right. The sizzling sound when the plate hits the table instantly gets you hungry. Service was super friendly, food came out quickly, and the restaurant was clean and welcoming. Parking can be a little tight depending on when you go, but it's definitely worth the visit. It's a metered lot behind the building... it's actually really cheap parking but can get busy. the one time i enjoyed a chatty Lyft driver! great recommendation. we ventured to Marujuu for dinner on the suggestion of our Lyft driver. he actually recommended multiple restaurants in this "foodie" area of Kaimuki. we settled on Marujuu for it's high ratings and we're glad we did. Marujuu is inconspicously located in a side street off of 12th and Waialea. even with google maps, were turned around and flipped sideways! just look for the yellow building. we were welcomed in by a chorus of staff greeting us in Japanese. we lucked out and were promptly seated. the place started filling up as our dinner went on. this was our first venture to a Japanese Hamburger joint. we started a complimentary bowl of amazing broth. we ordered the side of the most delicious crispy broccoli, caesar salad, side of fries, a keiki burger, a regular burger and 2 ribeyes. we also chose the onion and demi glace sauces. Located where the old Chubbies and Koko Head Cafe used to be, with parking meters nearby. We got here around 530p on a Friday and was able to snag a booth seat without having any wait time. The place had countertop, booth and bench seats throughout the establishment, that quickly filled up. We were offered onion soup and water rather quickly and efficiently. We also didn't wait very long for our food to come through either (about 15 min). I was anticipating a much longer wait time, based on other reviews, though I believe we came here on a good day, they were turning tables in that 1 hour that we were there. And if you have good company, the time goes by quickly! As for the food, I ordered the signature onion sauce which was sweet, salty, and gritty all at the same time. I also tried my friend's Gorgonzola cheese sauce and it reminded me of the cheese in those cheese and cracker snack packs. Each hamburg comes with grilled vegetables (cabbage), pasta (spaghetti with marinara), and white rice. You can add toppings or larger portions for an additional cost. Also got an order of the original salt fries, no frills about it. Overall, the portion size for a regular was smaller than I had anticipated (went home and ate a snack afterwards). A friend of mine who went previously, mentioned the large portions just have more of the sides, rather than the meat itself. Ended the night with the self-service soft serve ice cream that has pineapple, vanilla or a mix of both. You can opt for a cup or cone. Just know that the machine pushes the product out very quickly, so if you don't have the technique down, you won't be able to stack the ice cream as high as you'd like it, without it toppling over. The hamburger was juicy tender and you can tell that there has been a lot of care into the recipe. My oysters were also delicious and full of flavor, crispy on the outside and not too salty. Woohoo. We finally got a chance to dine at Marujuu. We've been wanting to try there since they opened but the lines were too long. We went at Lunchtime which according to our server was pretty mellow. Service was great from the front to the back. Very attentive and friendly. We tried the Hamburger Steak with both the Signature Onion Sauce and the Grated Daikon Ponzu sauce. Both were unique and delicious . The Hamburger Steaks were perfectly cooked and served piping hot on Sizzling platters. Their "Miso" soup was delicious it tasted like a Beef Onion Soup. We decided to try the Japanese Hamburg steak. Coming into the restaurant had that good Japanese vibe of "Irasahai". Welcome. Come in. Koa was our waiter. He was very good. Answered all my questions. Even went to the chef to find out how the soup was prepared. The soup was really good. Hamburger bits and onion in a delicious broth. The really nice thing about here is that it's unlimited soup and rice. Something you find at Mang Inasal in the Philippines. First we had the fried calamari. It came served nice and hot. Unfortunately there's no dipping sauce. Just a lemon wedge. My wife decided on the hamburg steak with their signature onion sauce. I tasted the sauce and it was a bit on the sweeter side. I got the hamburg steak and ribeye combo. It was also served with broccoli and corn. I chose the demi-glace sauce. I thought it was served on a sizling platter but mine wasn't. It was hot but certainly not sizling. If you've ever been to Pepper Lunch they really serve you a sizling platter. I thought the hamburg steak was OK. I didn't think it was anything really special. I think you can get better hamburger steak elsewhere. Maybe it's the demi-glace sauce. It's just my personal opinion to having a hamburger made from scratch with a good mushroom gravy or just brown gravy. Being a Loco moco fan i had to order the egg. I wish they had easy over as an option but they don't. It comes sunny side up. The ribeye was good. We'll it's hard to really ruin a ribeye. It's cooked perfectly at medium rare. I wanted to check out this new Japanese hamburger place that replaced a previous hamburger place (Chubbies). Totally different experience! This hamburger is thicker and juicier. It's served with a variety of sauces and rice, spaghetti, and cooked cabbage. You also get a cup of soup to start your meal. I liked the Japanese hamburger. It was very tasty with actual pieces of meat in the ground beef. You also don't really need sauce but its nice to have on the side. All in all a good meal, very good and satisfying. Finally went to check out Marujuu in Kaimuki. The meter lot that is closest to marujuu was filled so we ended up parking across the street in the pay lot. The hamburger was super juicy and moist, we tried two different sauces since it comes on the side and quite a bit you can share. We got the onion and the ponzu, really liked the onion one! Each set comes with hot onion soup which is light and delicious! The chicken was also really good. Had lunch at Marujuu in Kaimuki today. Loved all the anime posters on the walls. Service was really good. They give you a complimentary onion beef soup, which was lovely. Shared the nori something fries (was okay). Got the regular hamburg on sizzing platter with a ginger garlic shoyu sauce. I enjoyed it but hoping for more sizzle if I go back. We think our sizzling plates were not as hot as it should have been cos the sizzle totally fizzled out super fast. Other tables seemed to sizzle a lot longer. The hamburg didn't have a nice sear. Thick bacon was yum! The iced green tea was lovely. This is just being a little nitpicky, but I think I would've preferred the greens next to the Hamburg instead of the spaghetti. Sizzling, hot, and very delightful. I was so lucky to have walked in without any wait! My boyfriend and I decided to get dinner in Kaimuki a few weeks ago and we had the opportunity to walk into Marujuu. We were serviced very quickly and sat at the counter. I had the classic sized hamburger steak with Gorgonzola cheese sauce and my boyfriend had the larger sized hamburger steak with the onion sauce. My boyfriend who is normally not a fan of blue cheese really enjoyed the Gorgonzola sauce on my portion. There was a bit of a wait as each portion is made to order, but it was well worth it. Each plate came out hot and sizzling. But if you're bored while waiting for your food, there are numerous TV screens and anime/manga paraphernalia that you can look at on the walls. The plates are a cross between the Japanese hamburger steak and American diner food style. The hamburger steaks come with a small portion of pasta, some hot veggies, and a side of white rice. I highly recommend upgrading to an additional sauce to change up the flavor profile of the hamburger steak. Overall, it was fantastic and I'm excited for the next time I can dine in again! This is a new Japanese hamburg restaurant located in Kaimuki in that old Chubbies location. It's a sister restaurant to toriton. There is ample paid parking available near by. I went here with some friends for lunch. The walls are covered in anime posters. The kitchen is visible from the sitting area. It is a small place though so seating is limited. There is a u-shaped counter in the middle and tables around the perimeter. While there is curry and steak available, the main reason we came was for their specialty with is Japanese hamburg. This is a juicy handmade hamburger patty with your choice of toppings and sauce along with vegetables, spaghetti and rice. The hamburger was soft, juicy and flavorful and definitely the highlight. The sauces are good and there is a decent variety to chose from. The rice and vegetables were pretty standard. The spaghetti was a little lack luster and bit bland. Friday December 5, 2025 12:30PM Wow there is finally restaurant that serves hamburg steak in Hawaii! Well one that features it proudly. The other spot is not to be mentioned because they do not show that aloha spirit. Well sadly I can't say the same for this spot but at least they served us our food. It has been open for a little over three weeks; they have been open since Monday November 24, 2025. We came here during their lunch rush and luckily for us the wait was only five minutes to get seated! Though it was a full house it didnt seem hectic. The inside had posters of some popular japanese cartoons and books. They also had a tv playing some anime. Pretty cool how they have cups and a pitcher of water ready for you. The table is clean. Before they serve you your order you will receive a piping hot.. wait no an extremely tongue burning scorching heat of soup. It was so hot and i dont mean spicy. Feels like it came straight out of the fire. I was impressed. So ergo I had to wait five minutes for it to cool down haha.. well as we all finished the soup and a few cups of our water we waited and waited while all the workers were tending to other customers. So after another extra five minutes. Then another 10 min of waiting seeing people with larger groups getting seated and served their food before us and then leaving. It's been over 30 minutes since we ordered and still no food watching people enjoy their hamburger steak. Finally out food arrives! The food! While little cup of HOT soup was good.. No the hamburg steak sadly wasn't juicy and no it wasn't tasty as expected. I'd rather eat a loco moco because you can cut those burgers with a plastic fork! but ehh maybe this new restaurant was too busy or they are still figuring it out.. Service! The host was attentive! Marujuu is in the old Chubbie's Burger spot in Kaimuki. There's plenty of parking in two different lots. In the bigger lot, the parking was under $5 on a Saturday. When we came around lunchtime, it was fairly crowded, but there was no wait for a table of 2. Their menu is pretty simple, so you know that the food is going to be good. The meal started off with an onion broth/soup thing that I wasn't expecting. It was super flavorful and something nice to sip on while we waited for our food. I got the Hamburg with the signature onion sauce. The hamburger was juicy, and the sauce was great! It was the perfect balance of sweet and savory. The better half and I have been missing Japan and especially the food so we were excited to hear about Marujuu. Marujuu is a Japanese style hamburger steak place or shall I say Hamburg... Marujuu is located where Chubbie's, and Koko Head Cafe used to be. Marujuu is a sister company of Izakaya Tenkichi and Tori Ton which if like the food there, you will certainly love it here. When you first step foot inside you get the anime feels like when going to an anime shop in Harajuku and Akihabara in Tokyo Japan. What makes these hamburgs so special? Well instead of using all beef, they took a page out of Slaters 50/50 where they use a combination of beef and pork. Their "secret sauce" takes about half a day to perfect is what I was told and I believe them as it's fire! The menu is easy to read with photos. Customer service is friendly and they have a pitcher of water on the table for self serve. How do you order? First you choose regular or large size. Second, choose which sauce you want (Signature Onion, Cheese, Soy Glaze, Grated Daikon Ponzu, Green Onion Salt). Third, you can add on toppings. We ordered their fries and it was so tasty that we couldn't stop eating it. For myself I had to try the OG style Signature Onion and it didn't disappoint. It came on a sizzling hot skillet and the hamburg was nice and juicy and the portion size was satisfactory. It came with onion soup (very flavorful), pasta, white rice and cabbage. The Better Half, was swayed from ordering the hamburg as she saw STEAK and it was calling her name. Hey I didn't try to stop her... "Happy Wife, Happy Life!" She ordered the ribeye and she ate it all up. I guess I didn't have to ask her how it was as the empty plate speaks for itself. The staff was patient and very attentive throughout our meal. For now, it is BYOB and while it is on a first come, first served bases, they do take reservations for a party of 7 or larger. Something to keep in mind if you don't like waiting in line and if you can wrangle seven of your friends to come. Yes everyone needs to be there when you get seated. A happy place. Definitely a happy place. The service was awesome and the food was great. Lunch was limited to a short list but add a few options to customize your meal. Delicious food, comfortable interior, and the best service My sister enjoyed hamburgers in Japan which led us to try Marujuu. The taste and anime decorations definitely reminded me of a past trip to Japan I had. The hamburg and ribeye steak was amazing and I loveeeeed the signature onion sauce! Melon soda with the soft serve is a must The workers there are the kindest ever aswell! About halfway through our meal we called over our server since we weren't served our rice. Recently opened spot for Japanese food. First time trying hamburg and it was a fun experience! You choose the patty size, flavor and toppings. Comes with rice, spaghetti, veggies and a side of soup. We ordered: - karaage: we chose wasabi soy sauce, so delicious and wasabi taste was just enough for it not to overpower the chicken taste. The chicken pieces were big with a crunchy exterior and juicy interior. - Gorgonzola cheese sauce (regular size): thick and cheesy sauce that feels like eating a hamburger without the bun. The sauce wasn't too salty and enhanced the flavor of the patty and spaghetti. Def recommend adding an egg bc it added such a nice saucy texture to the patty. - signature onion sauce (large size): can't go wrong with their signature sauce. The sauce was lighter than the cheese sauce with a slightly sweet taste of caramelized onions. Added bacon and sunny side egg. The bacon was like millionaire's bacon, which was thick and nicely cooked with some crunch. The staff were very attentive and friendly. The place is cool decorated with different anime posters which made the ambiance even better. The toppings were a bit pricey and wish the egg was included with each set. Since I don't like meatloaf, hamburger steak or meatballs, I ordered their $36 American Wagyu. It was tender and they served a generous portion but lacked the fat of Japanese Wagyu or a ribeye steak. But for $36 what can you expect. Just like being in Japan! Hot juice hamburger,I broke it a part with my chop sticks and all the juices was flowing out. That's how moist it was.the chicken is excellent the flavor on the skin was also delicious. My friend had the steak that was good. Salad was very good. The broccoli was so good I ordered another one.
