Good food and service good but too expensive for my taste. And I feel that they need more variety in pastas

Marvino's has always produced great food. My children enjoy fettuccini Alfredo while the wife and I get wonderful rib eye, spare rib, seared tuna, and lamb shank. It's with a heavy heart that I say that the prices have risen at such a rate that I can't stomach the bill anymore. And even with recent cost increases, we haven't seen other establishment's prices rise as much as Marvino's has. If you're looking for quality food and can afford the significant expense, i haven't been disappointed in the food. But since kids love noodles with cheese sauce, we can find that at other restaurants alongside our adult dishes for less. I leave this review with much conflict. My meal is always satisfying and my wife even remarked the drinks were quite good, but some of the magic has gone out with the increased expense. read more

This was our first time eating at Marvinos and it did not disappoint. We had Fettuccine Pescatore, Peppersteak Risotto, Scallops, and Bread Pudding. Everything was delicious. The risotto was so creamy. The seafood was prepared perfectly. We will definitely be back. read more

It is not fun to write a less than charming review about a restaurant. Particularly when you have gone there for several years. It has never been a Zagat nominee, but it was just comfortable neighborhood place to catch a quick bite with good food. Today however was shocking. We arrived about 1 pm, not the lunch hour, but there should be some late straggling diners at that hour.....there wasn't. We decided to sit at the bar a grab a quick lunch. We waited for what seemed to be a long time, finally the bar tender/wait person came from the kitchen, gave menus and got our drinks. Then she left for another long wait. When she returned we order while we could. My wife's meal was a chopped salad with a wonderful " I don't Know" dressing but it did have small Brussels sprouts served al dente. Take from me, Brussels sprouts served that way are not good. My order was linguine, red pepper, olive oil and garlic , with grilled shrimp. It didn't show up at the table quite like that. It was linguine but the shrimp was baked with no seasoning, but had plenty of garlic, and a "dash" of olive oil. It had all the flavor of aged cardboard. I had to go to the kitchen to retrieve my wayward wait person - who was eating lunch- to get my Parmesan and red pepper flakes. We finished the meal, rather hurriedly I might add, and then I had to run her down for the check. She asked how the meal was and I informed her that the chef should really try to take a cooking coarse to refresh his/her skills. The wait person apologized and handed me the tab. ($24.00 for a bowl of pasta and a few "baked" shrimp! I should have told my server that she too should think about a career change for she certainly will not be moving up Vic and Anthony's any time soon. I guess they are telling themselves that Covid-19 has ruined their restaurant. A year ago you would have believed that, but if today was any indication of how the food is served, you shouldn't blame that on the virus, but poor management. Wow, I do not understand the previous bad reviews at all. I rarely review but I was so impressed with the service, ambience and especially the food, I felt this restaurant deserved it. We went to celebrate my belated birthday with my daughter and family. First time for all of us, the service was amazing, friendly, attentive, more than 1 person making sure water glasses filled, wine glasses filled, everyone had what they needed. Loved the ambience, cozy, classy and we could have a family conversation. Music was nice in the background but not overpowering. Building absorbs sound, not huge and echoing. We all tried something different on the Houston Restaurant Weeks dinner menu. We all had excellent meals, all 3 courses, all for $55. I had the Lobster Bisque, Chilean Sea Bass, and tiramisu. All excellent and I've eaten at some very nice restaurants in my life. Husband had shrimp course, T-Bone steak, strawberry cheesesteak. Daughter had Pear & Gorgonzola salad, Filet Minon, fruit sorbet. Son-in-law had ravioli, Filet Minon, and cheesecake. Everyone was very happy, steaks cooked perfectly, tender, seasoned well. Servings were generous. My sea bass was perfect cooked, melt in your mouth, served with creamy cheesy polenta, rainbow carrots, broccolini & asparagus. Vegetables cooked perfect tender crisp with some crunch. My tiramisu was some of the best I've had. We will definitely return, an extensive cocktail and wine menu, nightly specials and a full menu we look forward to trying in the future. What a special meal for my birthday!! The food was excellent. However, we rented the upstairs and it was extremely hot for some odd reason they could not get it cooled off. It was around 85°. Food was absolutely fantastic but it took so long to come out a lot of us got our food to go. We did have a pretty large party. read more

Nov 29 was our first visit and will not be our last. Fantastic service from the moment we arrived and throughout the meal and until we left. The food was awesome. Kudos to Maria for making our first visit wonderful. They have a great wine list and the atmosphere is perfect for those special occasions. We will definitely be back. read more

I would typically NOT take the time to write a review. However, this was warranted. Made a reservation, this past Monday, for my daughter and her friends to celebrate her 18th birthday. I received a phone call, today, day of the reservation, hours before hand, to basically inform me, that they must have seen it was a table of 18 year olds, and detail out the "do's" and "don'ts" for said reservation. However, don't come at me without showing me where this information is on your website and is this the same information you tell ALL your parties of 10 or more? You can't! Shame on y'all! Thanks for starting my daughters birthday weekend off with a bang! A very good and well serviced local restaurant we will no longer be attending in the future. Have showed up here twice with a reservation made in advance, and both times have had to wait 15-20 to be seated when arriving on time. Reservations obviously have been forgotten both times, as the tables are mismatched and srambled to be put together. Everything else checks out. read more

AVOID THIS PLACE AT ALL COSTS! You see a very beautiful restaurant. Food "looks" great. You wanna try it. But why avoid it? Well here's why. I had bought to go for my girlfriend and I and it was possibly the worst decision of my life. I had picked the fettuccine Alfredo with shrimp. It wasn't bad, just mediocre. But what messed up my day was after I dropped my girlfriend off at home, I went back to school at Lone Star College, and on the way I felt the need to have bad diarrhea! When I got to school, I hurried to the restroom, and let's just say, my shit didn't make it to the toilet. Must I also mention, I threw up! I was stuck in the damn restroom until campus police got me new pants. The fact that I couldn't hold my shit any longer, tells a lot about how your food was cooked. Food poisoning is NOT FUN. Maybe they've worked through their issues? The food is still average, though. But their level of service has substantially improved. Our host and server were friendly and thorough. First timers. My wife and I came in for a day date on a Sunday early evening around 2ish - 3ish. This is the perfect time to come here. We beat the dinner rush and the lunch crowd has already been gone for awhile. So, the wait staff was very attentive to us and the kitchen was able to take their time with our meals. We took our time and started with some vino and smoked salmon. The smoked salmon was not the best I've ever had but it was up there. Our server was very knowledgeable about the menu and was able to answer all of our questions. We went with the Caesar and Tomato Caprese Salads, Linguini Fri Diavolo and SeaBass with Lump Crab Meat and Angelhair Pasta. They were phenomenal! My wife said it was the best Caprese Salad she's ever had. I'm like gtfo of here so I tasted it and yeah it was super delicious and packed with flavor. I will say that I had told the server that I wanted something spicy but nothing crazy and my Fri Diavolo was exactly what I wanted. I love seafood and this dish hit a home run with me. Very flavorful and all seafood cooked prefect temp with the sauce great. Washed it down with some red wine every now and then I was loving it. My wife really enjoyed her sea bass and pasta. I wasn't expecting much but these people took me by surprise. We enjoyed our time so much that we decided to stay longer, ordered dessert and more wine. We moved here from Dallas about a year and a half ago and my wife and I were sitting there asking ourselves "Is this the best meal we've had since we moved here?" We thought about it for awhile and decided yes. We are accustomed to good Italian in Dallas and I basically came to terms with the fact that since we moved here I was not going to find good Italian anywhere in Cypress. Well, Marvino's took care of that problem straight up. Like I said before, it kinda depends when you go plus not a bad idea to make reservations. I requested a romantic setting and they gave us that. It was my wife and I first date since moving here with no kids in tow and it was a memorable experience because of the food and attentive service. I'm so disappointed in my delivery order from here. The delivery itself was great from Door Dash. But the actual food was disgusting and I don't say that lightly at all. I ordered meatballs (they were burnt and dry), bruschetta (didn't taste good and the bread was burnt), soup with the entree... it's a mystery what it is but it smells terrible so we didn't taste it, and the fettuccini Alfredo with fettuccini noodles and extra sauce (they gave me thin spaghetti noodles and it was a very bland tasting just like thickened cream). It all went in the garbage. We won't order from here again. Very upsetting. A waste of $41 (and that's with a free delivery charge). read more

My daughter and 5 girlfriends went tonight for Homecoming dinner at 430pm to beat the rush and get out to enjoy the evening. they were so excited! The food was fair, nothing special. The server, Jose, was rude and treated them with disrespect. It took him 1 1/2 hours to sort out their checks, in which he messed up, double charged my daughter. He came back to the table and said I need all the ones with credit cards and then left. Then he came back and said, I need the ones that are paying cash, and then he came back, and he still messed them up and told them to sort it out for him, he didn't know which card belong to them. One was short .50, he said I don't have .50, so she told him to keep it. The girls have money and would have tipped him well, but he didn't deserve it! The manager wasn't any help and didn't care. When I called, he said he was busy and would call later. We will never go there again! He never called back either. read more

Have ordered this place more than 8 times on doordash. Today on my way home I wanted to pick it up in person to check out the place. Beautiful place BUT the staff ?! What's wrong with these people. Nobody in the restaurant, not one guest, I walk in and Preston a server is standing there and asked me if I needed anything. I told him I had a togo and he said he will check and walked away. Instead of coming to tell me "hey about 10 more minutes" he decided to chat with a coworker about 30 feet in front of me. After about 5 minutes of curiosity, I approached them saying EXCUSE ME lol come on. And I said "hey about how long?" He then rolled his eyes said hold on if that and walked away. Coming back I asked for something with my order and with another eye roll he goes back to tell them and then disappeared. When I asked the togo guy for his name, he told me Preston was the name of this horrible server with horrible service and I said he was very rude and he just walked away from me. Come on? What is y'all's problem. This is the hospitality industry. Y'all need to fire Preston because he was more interested in gossip then what he's getting paid to do and y'all lost a customer from doordash and in person. Do better. Pathetic. read more

We have tried to like Marvino's, but last night was the last straw. We had a party of six and an 8:30 reservation. The hostess half heartedly greeted us as we told her we were there for our reservation. She looked back and forth in a confused manner from the dining room to the hostess counter at least a half dozen times before telling us to follow her to our table. Our waiter was nice, but service was super slow and they weren't even busy. The food was barely warm when it arrived and tasted ok at best. For the price point, it was very disappointing. Then came the drama to split the check 4 ways. We were told that the manager had to give permission to split the check. In all the places I have ever dined, I'd never encountered that. We proceeded to explain how to split up the check repeatedly and the waiter ended up avoiding our table. It's a little after 10:00pm, we are the last people left in there and it's like they were in no rush to take our payments. We just wanted to get out of there so everyone could close up and go home. Finally at almost 10:30 we were able to pay our separate checks and go home. Safe to say we will never go to Marvino's again. read more

First impressions: Got fresh warm crispy crust, soft fluffy center, bread within 3 minutes of seating. Will update as meal progresses! Appetizer was the Fried Mozzarella and trust me when I say this, they are huge! We split the Veal Parmesan. Trust me the portions are enough to split between two people and still bringing some food home. I will be honest, the fettuccine could use more salt. However, the veal was perfect. This place is amazing! Probably one of my second favorite Italian restaurants in Houston! The prices are reasonable, the food taste authentic and fresh, and the services is great! Our waiter was nice and helped my friends and I decide what to order. The Alfredo was creamy and not oily like most places. The chicken was grilled to perfection! The bread was fresh as well as the Caesar salad. It also has house made Caesar dressing. Oh, and let's not forget how large the peach Bellini was! Our server, Eric, was absolutely a doll!! Very friendly and accommodating. Manager, however, had zero personality and was quite put out when we asked if the air could be turned up as several tables were shivering. He did not even say a word just turned and walked away. I would like to say that the food was wonderful and the service was good. We went with friends for the first time tonight. I had the white Chilean bass special and my fault for not asking the price. Much to my surprise, it was $65. I think that was something that should have been communicated given the $22 white branzino I almost ordered off the menu instead. The food never disappoints when I come to Marvino's. They start you out w/ a warm basket of bread and olive oil dipping sauce, (might want to ask for butter)! The kids love their fettuccine alfredo, and burgers from the kids menu. They are great portions also. My husband really enjoys their steals because of the smoky flavor they have. I recently switched up my go-to selection, (wedge salad), and chose the salmon w/ creamy polenta and spinach. It was very yummy! The service is good, although there is a language barrier with some of the waitstaff. Broccoli cream soup (4/5)- very rich and creamy. My favorite thing here. It was very good Linguine Fruiti de mare (2/5)- not much sauce and overall just basic. The sauce was on the runny side and tbh tasted like dirty sink water Seafood tortellini (1/5)- was SO fishy, I mean I get its seafood but geezus Christ I wanted to gag in my mouth. Hubby tried it and said it didn't taste fresh. Was overall unsatisfied and ruined my experience here. What should have been a fun family gathering to mark the first time since pre-pandemic we have all been together for a meal and also celebrate Mother's Day, quickly veered off course. My mom chose Marvino's since she lives in the area and was craving their raw oyster appetizer. I am a vegan and therefore, went online to view their menu. (Now, before you roll your eyes and think, "inner looper, hipster Karen". Inner looper? Well, okay, yes. I have been a vegetarian/vegan for almost 40 years; 20 of those years married to a carnivore. I don't try to change people and hope they don't try to change me.) Not seeing any options, I emailed the restaurant. The reply I received from the GM was to ask my server. This statement implies that they have sooooooo many off menu options that it is too cumbersome to type in an email. So I conclude that I won't have any issues. I am used to checking places out prior. If they don't have a vegan meal, I eat something beforehand and can drink enough wine to more than make up for the lack of dollars being spent on food. I made reservations for Fri, June 18, 2021, at 7p. I also indicated on the reservation that it was a celebration. Mom & brother arrive ahead of my husband & I and are seated at a table that normally seats 6 people. Maybe that irritated the waiter, Jose, from the start. He was displeased from the very beginning. He mumbled something about drinks. Mom asked about diet drinks and he grumbled Diet Coke and Coke Zero. Only 2 menus were placed on the table. Reservation was for 4. When husband and I arrive Jose now has to be bothered to get us 2 more menus. Husband orders a cocktail and I, a wine. He comes back to take our order. Mom is craving their raw oysters still. She notices that they are a little different in the description and tries to engage with him and nothing. He could have cared less what she was saying to him. Mom can strike up a conversation with ANYONE. Heck, it takes her 20 minutes to say good bye. He also takes our entrée order. When he gets to me I inquire about vegan options. He suggests the chicken primavera pasta. I apologize that I didn't make it clear, I am a vegan; don't eat meat, dairy or eggs. He tells me they don't have anything. I asked about the pasta, as many pastas don't have egg in it. But he tells me that all of theirs does. Okay...what about a la carte vegetables. He tells me they have asparagus and spinach. Fine, I'll take that. Then he tells me that they have gluten free pasta. I say to him that it will still have egg in it, right? He says yes. Then I can't have it. He could have at any point say he doesn't know what a vegan is. Or better yet, ask someone on staff what options are there for vegans since he clearly doesn't know the menu. I can't believe I am the first vegan to try to dine at the place. After I order, brother orders. 15-20 minutes later the appetizers arrive and the waiter has come back because he forgot to get my brother's order. Not exactly, but all this time has gone by and he just realized he forgot to place brother's entrée order. Meanwhile husband's glass and my glass are empty. He has been to the table 3 times since I have been out of wine. A manager came by and noticed my empty glass and went to the bar to bring me another glass of wine. Our food arrives and Jose places a small plate in front of me with 5 asparagus spears and a half cup of sautéed spinach on it. I look at it and then look at him. He tells me (without any expression on his face) that those are the 2 vegetables I ordered. Now I am getting annoyed. I don't want to make a scene or cause further stress for mom, so I lower my voice and explain to Jose that the GM said that there were vegan options for an entrée. That he proceeded to give no options and therefore, only suggested these 2 side vegetables. Which if someone is inquiring about a meal wouldn't you at least give them a larger portion? I also mention that he had been to the table 3 times when my glass was empty and neglected to ask if I wanted another one. Keep me happy with wine! He said that he asked and I told him no. That is when we had had enough. Brother stepped in and told the waiter that no he didn't ask. That a manager was now getting the wine for me. He also pointed at the green beans on his plate and mentioned, there is another vegetable you could have suggested. How about the red peppers that are on that plate? You could have tossed around some vegetables, thrown them on a large plate and she would have been happy. I told him for the 2nd time that this is a celebration for mom. His response? You guessed it, nothing. Not even an apology. Basically he couldn't have been bothered with us. To the point that he never came back to the table. The backup waiter came by to take the dessert order. No one asked about us celebrating anything. They have lost customers for all 3 of their restaurants, which they don't need to do considering the restaurant wasn't full on a Fri night. read more

This review isn't about food rather service!! Gabriel absolutely sucked and when. It Was brought to his attention he gave excuses! My husband and I are business owners so save it! He was completely bland and has no personality to begin with. But we can't change that. The issue is he was completely inattentive!! He kissed ass to another table close to us and completely neglected our table. I ordered a coffee drink after dinner and after 20 mins it never came. The other guy that was helping him was great! Didn't catch his name. I didn't bother leaving a tip because he came to the table with excuses. I didn't take my leftovers because after 20 mins of waiting for it to get packed up I didn't want it! We got there around 630 and 2 hours later we left because service was completely slow! Glad we didn't have any other plans! Based on food I would definitely return!!
