Unfortunately, I was sorely disappointed. I came in and ordered a drink and an appetizer, pork belly. The pork belly was good, but it was way too busy with sweet potato puree, pickled onion, and a blueberry compote. The biggest issue was the wait, though. An hour wait for spaghetti, and basically a cacio e pepe w/ scallops. My drink order took 10 to 15 minutes per glass of wine, even though the bar was 9 feet from my table. This place has the potential to be awesome, but the front of the house and wait staff were seriously lacking, and the back of the house is obviously understaffed. I drove 30 minutes to this place, only to realize I will never return. I'm on for giving second chances, because everyone has an off night, but this is ridiculous. As I sit here an hour after I ordered my entrée, it still hasn't arrived. Also, I didn't get the second glass of wine.. Update: I just gave up. I went to Salt and Sugar Gastro Bar with my sister on a Saturday afternoon around 6 PM. We made a reservation, although it probably wasn't necessary since they weren't very busy. We were seated in a cute little two-person booth, and our waiter was kind and friendly throughout the meal. I genuinely have no complaints about the service. The issue was the food--or more accurately, the availability of the food. My sister and I came specifically wanting to try the Dolce Pera pizza. We ordered our Italian sodas (which were delicious, by the way) and placed our food order. A couple of minutes later, our waiter came back and told us the pizza dough wasn't ready because it hadn't risen yet. This was especially confusing considering it's an Italian restaurant that opens at 11 AM, and we were dining at 6 PM. Being told there was no pizza dough available at dinner time was definitely frustrating. No problem, I thought. I switched to my second choice: the Five Cheese Tortellini. A few minutes later, the waiter returned again to tell me that dish was also unavailable. At that point, I was honestly ready to leave, but it was pouring outside and I was hungry, so I settled on the lasagna. When it arrived, it felt like a bowl of tomato sauce with a piece of lasagna hidden somewhere in the middle. To be fair, it didn't taste bad at all--the flavor was actually pretty good--but there was so much sauce that I found myself digging through it just to find the pasta. My sister ordered the carbonara, and that was pretty good. We also had the Strawberry Tiramisu, it was lack luster. Overall, the experience left me with mixed feelings. The service was great, the Italian sodas were excellent, and the carbonara was good. But having my first two menu choices unavailable made for a disappointing dinner experience. I've been meaning to go back and try the pizza because so many reviews rave about it, but I've kept putting it off because I'm not eager to make the drive only to find out there's no pizza dough available again at dinner service. read more

I was really excited to try this place, we made reservations for Friday at 7pm. The restaurant is beautiful inside with live music that was fantastic! We ordered a caprese salad, and pork belly for appetizers. The cheese in the caprese salad was fresh and delicious. The pork belly bites were also delicious! We ordered the coco mint soda, it was sweet and refreshing. We ordered panne be mare (seafood bread bowl) lasagna, lemon salmon, and the lomo steak with mashed potatoes. The Salmon had a good flavor, but was brought out cold. The panne seafood dish did not taste good at all, the seafood wasn't fresh and the tomato sauce wasn't good either. The lasagna was ok, but nothing special, it had the same tomato sauce as the seafood dish. My husband didn't like the lomo steak. Very overpriced food for the quality you get. read more

My family decided to stop in one Saturday afternoon. My partner has passed it several times and was curious, so we thought we'd give it a try. It was fairly empty upon arrival, but the staff was pleasant. We were asked where we'd like to sit and after choosing a booth by the window, the host lowered the shade since the sun was shining directly on us. The interior is beautiful and intimate. Our waiter was very knowledgeable and patient with us taking the time to explain dishes. My favorite was the appetizer which is sliced raw beef that's been marinated in a citrus juice and topped with arugula, pesto, and mushrooms. My toddler even liked it! This place is a little gem, located in the middle of the neighborhood but definitely worth coming to. The staff is super friendly and attentive, the menu has multiple selections, and the bartender knows what he's doing!!! I think I would have given more starts if it didn't take forever to receive our food and if our drinks kept coming. We had a large reservation under 10. They provide bread for the table but one gave one, we had to keep requesting more while we waited for our food. The location is convenient and the ambiance was nice. The lighting made it another tricky to see but they had those small table lamps to help. They had a live jazz band that played softly to allow for visitors to communicate without shouting. The food was good. The menu had Italian and Indian style offering but no real fusion styles. It was this or that. The portion sizes are smaller for Texas, everything in Texas is bigger;) the flavors were decent. I got insalata Cesare, risotto cream di gamberi, cannoli. insalata cesare - croutons were made in house, but not crunchy, and actually soft. the dressing was good, and the parmesan on top was also good! risotto crema di gamberi - forgive me, but it taste one step above instant risotto. the presentation however is beautiful! the shrimp was A+ cannoli: one side dusted with chocolate, other side has pistachios, the cream was not very sweet, almost taste like yogurt. but the shell was semi crispy, slightly soft. I ordered something the chef advised against, which was salmon al limone with pasta. they put this sauce on top that is brown that taste like balsamic vinaigrette that basically ruined the whole dish for me. so if you order salmon, ask for that sauce on the side, and thank me later boo. I wanted the pork confit, but they ran out, so I ordered the appetizer with eggplant instead, its like an eggplant lasagna, the tomato sauce was too acidic for this dish and the flavors did not balance out. Calamari - was very good A+ !!! but PLEASE order that tar†an sauce on the SIDE, I feel that I could eat that serving by myself, so if youre sharing, order 2! if you got anything from this review. get the tartan sauce on the side, and call your check early. they do take a while to bring the check, also order all your food in the beginning. it does take a long time for the check to come out, every friday 6-9pm, live music! check their IG for happy hour! enjoy! read more

I came here like 45 minutes before they were going to close. I wanted to get a quick bite but mainly a glass of wine. The service was great. I don't remember who my server was but he was the only one on the floor very attentive. very great service. I ended up not getting anything because all of the items seemed very heavy and also a little high priced for the quick bite that I was looking for, but I feel like it would be great for a date night. I'm going to start by saying we hosted a party for 10 last night at this restaurant. They were very helpful in the area of reserving and welcoming. The hostess was very friendly. The owner stopped by to make sure we had everything we needed. She was very nice and accommodating. The place was decorated very nice and very modern. I plan on returning to try some other things. Let me just say the food was really good. Everyone enjoyed what they received. Please keep in mind, they have only been open 2 months and are still learning and tweaking things. I am not bashing or going to write terrible things. We did see areas that could improve in service. Some miscommunication between staff and the management. One of my guests spoke with the server and the manager and offered feedback and they gladly listened to her insight. This is a learning process when you open a new place. I am intending on returning and updating my review. I encourage everyone to come out and try this place. The food really is good and it's just the type of place our area needs. Is friend and I had lunch on 19 February. I should have commented then. I am still quite angry. Our server was a pretty young lady with a butterfly on her nose. Third online menu shows eggplant parm appetizer in a ramekin. I ordered it and requested a flat plate so I could use a knife and fork. Who the hell eats that with a spoon? The server ( henceforth TS) should have said she would ask the kitchen. But NO she proceeded to lecture as to why not. There only one other customer, a woman about 12 feet away. After this TS spent a fair amount of time talking to her. A while later as the woman was leaving she stopped at our table and said she heard our conversation (doubtful) and if I didn't like how they did things I should eat at home. I have no doubt that she did that as a favor for TS. Her car was parked outside the window and TS was bowing with her hands together as a thank you. And there was no way for us to know as the tip options started at 18% and went up from there. So she made 40% in tips off our checks. This is a hidden gem. I pass by this strip all the time and notice gastro bar. Did some research and found out it's an Italian restaurant. The vibe was vibinnnnnng. We came in late Friday night and they had a saxophone player. There was also a piano, maybe for piano nights. We were sat quickly by lovely host. The steak was divine , the mixed cocktail drinks were flavorful, strong and smooth. All appetizers were great as well. Bread was meh. Wish it was warmed up. We did ask for second plate of bread to warm up and the waitress did. Made it soooo much better when it's warm/fresh. They also recommended the homemadr tirimisu. Again, divine!
