Mary Lee Donuts - Perkins and Siegen
Rebecca W.

"Donuts, donuts, donuts!" This is a very busy donut store at the end of a strip mall. Just when I think donuts are losing their flair, I walk into this place and about 5 people end up lining up right behind me and it was almost 11am. People still love their donut stores. The donuts here tasted fresh and were pretty yummy. As for the customer service, I was pleasantly surprised with it. The woman behind the counter was kind and actually happy to be helping me. I have not always had the best luck with customer service at donut places. Most of the time, I always ended up with someone grumpy and disinterested in taking my order. Donuts were not stale and were quite finger-lickin' good!

Glazed and chocolate covered

The nicest owner works here. Gave us free samples as well as some free Apple fritters without us even asking. Just having a great conversation. No reason at all to not go here!

Of all the donut shops in town this the best chocolate sprinkle donut, this is a staple of their business on weekends.

There are a dozen and half of these in and around Baton Rouge, and after having been to several of the others (Florida, O'neal, etc) I think this is the best one. My son and I go here almost every weekend (Sat and Sun). The two ladies who work the counter here know us as they do dozens (if not hundreds) of other faces that come through their door. The donuts here are amazing and they know exactly which donuts to make for which type of crowd comes in at different times of the week. For the little ones the chocolate sprinkle doughnut is the go to for anyone under 12, they have as many or more of these than the glazed donuts ready to go, they even have doughnut hole versions with sprinkles, that's so awesome. The Apple Fritter is amazing, enough for two people, you have to get it! They also have a king cake doughnut, pigs in blankets and the standard offering of Community Coffee, milk, OJ and soda. It's the service and smile I go in for. Even when D Donuts opened up down the road, we ditched them and came back for the quality of the doughnut, and the people. I've written reviews for other doughnut places and as awesome as they are, this one is the closest to where I live. The only thing I have to say that I really don't like are the very inconsiderate folks who park in the red zone right outside the door. It's painfully obvious that parking is a whole 20 feet away. If it was the streets of Los Angeles, I would understand but here, it's completely pathetic.

Friendly staff. Always had hot, fresh donuts in the morning. I usually don't wait long for my order. A big plus that it's on my way to work.

Having thought I've eaten through most donut shops in BR, I was surprised to learn the existence of…read moreCrispy Donut, which has supposedly been around for the better part of the last two decades. Located along Highland Road just outside of the LSU campus, this Asian-owned biz has been hiding behind a popular Chevron gas. station. It's not much to look at from the outside, but fans of donuts and kolaches will be able to enjoy something here. The inside is quiet and has limited counter seating and goes heavy on the LSU decor. It feels like a cafe that is dated but still hasn't finished the renovation. I imagine the idea is to pump some gas and get a donut, which has a staple format for so many BR peeps. The menu will always elicit a double take from me, with its awkward placement of numbers and the fact the stickers are so large that they had to abbreviate kolache to "kolach" and jalapeño to jalap. What's not condensed is those prices, which show nearly $40 for a dozen boudin kolaches and $12-20 for a dozen donuts. The breakfast croissants are $44 for a dozen, which just feels very steep. If a donut maximizes the taste, then the value is sometimes justified. However, trying their glazed, sprinkled, cake, fritters, and chocolate donuts, I can't say they're exceptional. The jalapeño kolaches and boudin kolaches were solid, but I'm not likely to order them again. The fact they still have Yoohoo in the fridge, is a nostalgic throwback I can appreciate. The owner is a sweet Cambodian man and is welcoming for every customer. Any attempts to use a credit card will incur a 50 cent surcharge for any purchases less than $5. Parking is limited to the gas station spots, but it's never crowded enough in here to be an issue. Lastly, every pastry shop is guilty of this, but the mini flies stuck inside of the display case is a massive turn off. ___________ (#1) Thank you, Yelp app.
