Today's black Friday. Went to Mary Mary's for breakfast and the place was full, not unusual for a weekday - but I really thought that there would be fewer people because they would all be at the mall. No such luck. When we sat down the waitress warned us that only one cook was working and that we would have a long wait (there was even a party going on in the back room!) I thought that was very nice of her, it gave us the option to opt out if we wanted to. We ordered, my hubby a steak and egg breakfast but I chose the Hawaiian burger for lunch. I must admit that it took over a half hour to get our food - we later discovered that there are usually THREE cooks in the kitchen, so they were short by TWO cooks! We played cribbage until our meal arrived, but our glasses were never empty and the staff was very attentive and sweet. The food was perfect. I love Mary Mary's home cut fries - they are delish! I've NEVER had a bad meal there, or even one that's just OK! Thank you Mary for bringing your good home cooking to Spanaway. We needed you! read more

This was a pretty cool place tucked away near an antique store. I loved their service but their food was okay. My mom took me there saying it was AMAZING. I was there with a ladies group last Tuesday at 11:30am. This was my first time eating there, nobody greeted us on entering the cafe. They were busy, I followed another lady to the back room where others in my party were seated. A waitress came back and took the order for our drinks in about 15 minutes. Eventually another waitress came back to take our orders, taco salads were ordered, omelets, and I ordered a cobb salad. There were eleven of us and our room was reserved ahead of time. I had heard of great food here even though I am gluten free I usually can find a salad that will work for me. So in about another 25 minutes everyone got their food but me. As the waitress was leaving, I motioned for her to notice me and said, ' I still need my order.' She made a face at me and said sharply,' I know I just couldn't bring it with me this time, I will go get it as soon as I can.' I nodded my head ok, well I waited and waited as I am talking with the others they are half through their food. I mentioned this to the head of the group and said, 'Ok its been 20 minutes, how long does it take to pick up a salad?' The leader said, ' I 'll go check and see what is up.' So in about five minutes the leader comes back with the waitress and the cobb salad. She was not pleasant in explaining what happened to my order like it was my fault I didn't order a Taco salad. The waitress said, " I am sorry but I have a heck of a lot of customers out front that need service too." I didn't say anything just starting eating, the cobb salad was huge it was mostly lettuce, presentation of the cobb salad was beautiful but again everyone is done now with their food and I have just started eating. So I didn't leave a tip, because it was her job to get my food back to me as she promised. It is her job to serve the customers and be nice to us not give excuses. I believe one of the other waitresses said they were short of wait staff that day. Again it is not my problem the manager should of call in help or take orders himself/herself, and do whatever needs to be done so customers don't get upset on waiting for their food. Pitch in when a employee doesn't show up for work. So that I or other customers don't have to suffer just because they wanted some good food. I will not be back nor will I recommend this Mary Mary's Cafe. read more

I made the unfortunate mistake of deciding to enter this cafe. I had intended to get a drink to go, but decided to use the restroom first as the antique store next door that we were shopping at didn't offer restrooms. Upon exiting the restroom and going to the counter to purchase a drink, I was met with an angry women standing guard to ensure she was able yell at me. I was accosted by her, she was an older female with long gray/blond hair wearing a waitress apron who very rudely, very loudly and very unprofessionally demanded to know if I was a paying customer. I explained that I was buying a drink and went to the counter to purchase the drink. The manner in which she asked what size and flavor I wanted was so incredibly rude, it was clear she was angry I used the restroom before purchasing a drink. I set $5 on the counter, told her to keep it as she was so very clearly upset and went to leave. While walking out, she literally yelled at me, saying I could not read and pointing to a sign on the door that stated restrooms were for paying customers. I suppose purchasing I drink wasn't enough to be considered a 'paying customer'. I'll never step foot in Mary Mary's again. read more

Very disappointing. Took an overly long time to take our order, even though people sat after us were getting their orders in & food before we had even ordered, pays obviously to be known regulars! Chili out of a can. Pasty white hasbrowns, even though requested well cooked, & waitress was dismissive & said "it is not possible to cook them well done & crispy" - well I can!!!! Plus side, coffee was replenished frequently. This was not our first visit, but it will be our last. read more

Horrible service...waitress says she is 'too busy and doesn't have time" to wait on us.. this is the second time this has happened.. same waitress has the kitchen help peek around to point and stare at a customer, is this how all the guests are treated? Excellent hash browns and gravy. Service was slow getting our order, but once are order was put in, food was delivered quickly.

We went here for a family (11 people) Father's Day breakfast. It was busy there, we were seated right away, but we waited 45 minutes for our food to come out. We were warned of the wait time prior to being seated so really it was just fine. It was nice of the staff to let us know ahead of time. The staff was very nice and casual and were very concerned with keeping our drinks full. I got a side of bacon which was $3.99 (a little too much?) and it was really really bad. The bacon was dry and crumbly, not good, all the flavor was cooked out. Overall, the food was just boring... It wasn't terrible, but it just wasn't anything either. The portions were great and some people took their extras home. I wouldn't go back because there are just so many other places that are better for the same price. Maybe it was just the busy day that affected the food. I'm just not thrilled about it, even though they have other great reviews. read more

I want to give a bad review to keep people away. But we love this place! Portions are huge, best breakfast place in the area. We now drive 15 miles to get here, we haven't found a place we like neer as much closer to where we live. The customers are mostly an older crowd of regulars, and are nice. We stopped by shortly after breakfast rush. The place was clean with a large seating area. My wife, I, and a mother and her daughter were the only ones in the place. We got very slow service and it took excessively long for our breakfast to be served. The food was Ok but not great, and the for what we got I think the prices were a bit high. Very nice people,attentive and friendly. Food was really good sos on hash browns with eggs, good portions. Some items seemed pricey but it was comparable to other places. Short wait for food to be cooked but it was worth the wait! Owner and her daughter were both extremely wonderful!! read more

Was recommended by a business friend & found the atmosphere to be very comfortable & very clean. The service is great - even the owner waits tables. Had the Catfish special.Catfish,fries,coleslaw and clam chowder for 7.99.Catfish was good.Good taste and cooked just right.Clam chowder had a really good taste.I love the way they cook ther fries.Great deal for the price.My wife got bacon& cheese omelet very big and generous on the bacon.Staff was good and chatted with us.My only negative is they aren't open for dinner.Wish they were I would go there more. read more

Hands down this is one of the best diner/cafe's in Pierce county. The food is good, the staff are friendly, and the owner is a perfect cafe personality. My husband and I love the fact that there is a locally owned, family style restaurant in the Spanaway/Parkland area. The food is great, staff is wonderful and make everyone feel at home. I got the wrong order and was kicked out of the restaurant for not accepting it. I was calm, reasonable and did not make a scene, but the waitress/owner instantly flew off the handle and kicked me out! I've never been kicked out of a restaurant before in my life. Will not go back there ever. Go only if you're willing to take whatever is delivered to you, whether it is cooked right or not, and whether hot or cold. Unfortunately, we had a very negative experience here...more then once. It was a VERY long wait for our food and coffee refills. The food came cold and when asked to make it right...we were treated as though we had greatly burdened them. As if that were not enough...we were treated poorly and shown a great deal of disrespect.
