One of my preferences that aligns nicely with New England tropes is that as it gets colder, the beverages that I crave get frostier. A former Russian professor of mine who grew up in Moscow said that people there frequent ice cream carts only during the dead of winter so our ilk is not that weird, okay? It was snowing yet again on the way out of my dentist's appointment and I had just got the tip from a friend to try Marylou's near the office for the specialty iced beverages. He had recommended The Girl Scout Cookie but I didn't see it on the menu. In a snap decision, I went for the "Frosty Minty Lou"...without consulting Yelp! Livin' on the edge there, y'all. I've found that if an establishment is willing to add their name when naming an item, it's something they usually stand by. And stand by the Frosty Minty Lou they should because it was delish. They had forgot to add the whipped cream on after asking me if I wanted any but I'll let that slide. I'm not someone who enjoys Frappuccinos/Dunkaccino type beverages usually but this was exactly what those should be like. It was perfectly sweet (clearly I like sweet stuff) with a perfect balance of mint and chocolate. It was decadent but with just the right amount of ice to actually taste the coffee amidst the sweetness. I have never slurped down one of those types of drinks so fast but I pretty much destroyed a medium Frosty Minty Lou in, like, 30 minutes. I wonder if I had some massive insulin spike after finishing my drink because I came home and took a nap immediately afterward. Likely a sugar crash. So I guess I'll avoid the frozen drinks if I need to be awake after drinking my coffee. With that said, this was so good that I see what other reviewers are saying about craving more Marylou's immediately after finishing one beverage from there because I immediately wanted more. I'm already plotting a trip back as soon as possible to try something less sugary in the hopes that I can find items I can drink on a more regular basis. Even if iced sugary stuff ends up being what I like there, it's so worth it to come back on a day when you want to treat yo'self at a chain that really adds some local flavor. If you have a day when you need a life pick-me-up, getting a Frosty Minty Lou at Marylou's is a perfect way with which to do it. read more

I was a Marylou's virgin until this weekend, and I'm SO thankful that my friend...de-flowered me? (I think I took the analogy too far). But you get the idea. I now know about Marylou's, and it's dangerous knowledge to have. Like good and evil. I feel like I must have all the flavors. (all the flavors!!) The entrance isn't the most inviting, being located inside of a gas station and all. But in the back corner, there's a little slice of pink heaven, with cookies and brownies and the most delicious flavors of iced coffees I've ever seen! Creamy chocolate coconut and A.O.K cookie and peanut butter wonderful...HOW DOES ONE DECIDE? Thankfully Katie was working, and she can make anything your heart desires. After placing my order, I saw a chocolate raspberry flavor, and had to have it. But it wasn't one of the "specialty" drinks. No problem! Katie did some whipped cream action and whatever other magic they do, and viola! The best iced coffee I've ever had. I drank the entire thing in under five minutes, much to my dismay. I used to LOVE Marylous. But lately it's has been extremely disappointing. The "specialty coffees come with whip cream correct? Cause it seems when I ask for it I get an attitude and teeth sucking. Ordered a regular cappuccino with an extra shot. It was incredibly sweet, and I could barely taste the espresso. Maybe they use whole milk? Whatever it is, this does not resemble anything I expected. If you enjoy traditional cappuccinos, this place isn't for you. If you are into flavored coffees and have a sweet tooth, this is probably your speed. Also, provide a cardboard sleeve when a customer orders a hot coffee to go. Even Dunkins would have been a better stop. Very disappointed read more

I wish there was one on every corner! Best coffee ever! The place is so cute, the black and pink is adorable! There are so many awesome coffee flavors to choose from and they are flavored beans not added sugar pumps. They have flavors like Milky Way and Milk Chocolate Almond to name two. Oh my Amazing! I have hear the commercials for Marylou's for months now, but had not tried it until I realized there was one super close to my house. I stopped in and was overwhelmed (in a most excellent way) by all the choices (and the pink, you may want to wear sunglasses, it is so bright!). I went with the Chocolaty Coconut Almond one and it was the best coffee of my life! I have also tried the PB Madness one, which is also AWESOME. The girls that work here are super nice and adorable. Despite being 10 years older than them, they also call me "hun" or "sweetie", which I find funny. They also do not mind when I change my order a few times because I cannot decide what new flavor to try. Stop what you are doing and go to your local Marylou's, you will not be disappointed!!! read more

Marylou's is a great concept well-executed. I couldn't ever give up Dunkin', but this place is a treat. There are so many choices for iced coffee and, true to Rhody style, Marylou's deifies iced coffee, even in cold weather. Cute outfits and decor. Not too shabby. I decided to try this coffee house made for the minds of young men and creepy old men. ( I say this because of the fact that all they hire is "Cute/young girls". True story, they've been caught for age discrimination here and there. Not to mention those old Marylou commericials with all the girls prancing around claiming to have the best coffee in town--which might be true in some areas, but that's not the case most of the time-- End rant .) I was at the gas station so I thought: "Oh what the hell, let me finally try this place." So I went inside to grab a coffee- -first I had to be bathed in pink as it is accustomed to be bathed in pink upon approach Marylou's. I ordered from one of the many young girls prancing around behind the counter, and she was somewhat pleasant, and offered me soymilk or Almond milk when I asked if they had a non-dairy creamer. Yay!!! Unlike whenever I go to "dunkin", she was smart enough not to offer "Nonfat milk" when I inquired about non-dairy creamer. THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU. The pumpkin roasted coffee was pretty decent, I could actually taste coffee and pumpkin spice when drinking it, so I wasn't horribly disappointed. Was it the best cup of coffee I've ever had? Hell no. Would I go here before stepping foot in Dunkin Donuts? Hells yes. Even their pasteries looked better at Marylou's than at that shit pit of a chain coffee shop. Would I go to Marylou's over Starbucks? Hmm. .Probably not. Personally I love small local joints over chains, but sometimes it's pretty slim picking. The reason for three stars? Well, like I said it wasn't the best coffee I've had, false advertisement makes me a bit sad. The coffee I make at my house is better, and the concept of hiring all young females also irks me beyond beliefe, so I can't say I'm a "fan". I also can't say I'd frequent Marylou's. Always happy with my coffee. The girls are very sweet. I'm never stuck waiting for long and the price is comparable to other coffee shops in the area. I get a small iced coffee but I always ask for it in a superlou iced cup. I do this so I can add my protein shake to it. Extremely rude and somewhat braindead employees at this location. It used to be one of my favorite spots the last couple years, but lately has gone downhill the last 6-8 months. Some of the better folks must have moved on, and they've slowly been replaced by morons. It's a shame too, because the MaryLous coffee itself is pretty good. If you want to try MaryLous just do yourself a favor and take the five minute drive from here to the MaryLous in North Kingstown instead; it's off Devil's Foot Rd. - much nicer folks there. read more

To be honest, I only get my coffee here when I'm already at this Shell filling up my gas tank. I've only had regular, non-flavored coffee, of both the hot and iced varieties, and it's fine, no complaints. The service has always been friendly when I've been there. I haven't used the drive through, nor have I had any of the baked goods or flavored coffees, so I can't comment on any of those things. Prices are slightly higher than Dunkin Donuts or Felicias. I wouldn't go out of my way to get coffee here, but will probably continue to do so if I need to fill up my car in the morning so I don't have to make an extra stop somewhere else. read more

Holy pink. It's eye burning the amount of pink in here. Coffee is only ok, seems kind of watered down to me. Doesn't live up to the flavors advertised and a little on the pricey side. One thing I did enjoy about it is the diversity of flavors, not your typical couple of choices. And of course, the girls are all really cute which I suppose must be it's hitch. The beans are soaked in natural flavors, giving you a light refreshing flavorful coffee, without all those added sugary syrups! So I love this coffee!! They have a great selection of coffee and great variety of pastries as well. Did I mention none of the flavor is added, it's in the bean! I only give it 3 stars because depending on the day, my order is wrong. I usually take the drive thru so if I'm on the go, especially to work I'll be to far away to turn around before I even taste it. But it still gets 3 because the drinks are good. Marylous as a business is amazing, they have an amazing selection of coffee flavors amongst other foods. But this location itself is merely okay which is the reason they lost a star. I completely understand that things can't always be smooth sailing especially coming from a current employee at a coffee shop. I get it. But practically every time I visit here I wait 5+ minutes for one coffee. Maybe this is my personal experience because efficiency is a top priority for me or what. This is my only complaint however.
