Located in the former Visitation of the Blessed Virgin Mary Church, their interior is stunning and their speakeasy is such a cool vibe. We went for brunch on their terrace and loved it. The salted caramel cold brew cake was INCREDIBLE and don't sleep on their burnt tips hash. I also adored the incredibly decadent focaccia (I ate it for my mental health, not my physical health). I totally underestimated this hidden gem. I heard good things about this place but didn't get a chance to visit until now. I was blown away with the selection of wines and food. Our server, Eric was amazing! My friend and I were seated right in front of a fireplace. How fitting for a cold winter night. We ordered wine flight each and a cheese board to start. I went to Mary's Vine for restaurant week after a recommendation from a friend. The whole experience was so unexpected, in a good way! The church is beautiful and really stood out on a snowy night. Note that the valet is complimentary - I didn't realize that and walked up the hill in the snow. I enjoyed the restaurant week menu including a sweet potato salad, romanesco veggies, and a pistachio cannoli (they had fancier names but I can't recall!). The staff was very friendly and the ambience of the former church was the best part- you can tell the owners took care to restore the beauty of the building instead of modernizing everything. She was super personable yet very professional with her service . We had a blonde server take us down to the cigar room to check it out. I won't spoil the surprise but ask to go down to the cigar room, VERY interesting entrance and rooms! Food: out of this world ! We ordered the Taste of Italy board and the clams - both better than I could have imagined. We finished our meal with the strawberry shortcake that was marinated in grand maniere. Yes ! Such a delightful dining experience right here in Rankin, so very close to my home. The setting is in a renovated church, lovingly done and managed by the owners. The menu is ever changing and is presented to you on a tablet (electronic). How cool is that? They are known for their wine selections but the cocktails are pretty awesome too. Entrees and desserts are eye-catching. Our selections tonight were spot on. I opted for seared scallops with quinoa and veggies then a decadent drssert with chocolate ganache. My wine of choice was a Reisling. I was very happy with all my choices. Our server was knowledgeable, pleasant, and most helpful. And the ambience? It is amazing, swank, so very appealing. I'll start by saying that I'm always a bit apprehensive when I visit an establishment that has no wait and few patrons on a Friday or Saturday evening, and that's exactly what we encountered at Mary's Vine, but my concerns were unfounded. The atmosphere, the service, the wine, and the meal were all fantastic! Let's start with the setting...it's an old church which has been converted to a restaurant. I'm a former Catholic schoolgirl so I felt right at home! It's a beautiful setting, and I'm a huge fan of dining with low tables that use lounge chairs so that's a major plus for me. It could stand to be a little darker, but with so much natural light from the church windows it's understandable. Lots of restaurants have great wine lists (and they certainly have that here), but they also have a great selection of wines by the glass which is a bonus when a couple (like us) can't agree on compatible appetizers or entrees. I started with the house-brined olives. Slightly tangy with a rosemary flavor, these were excellent and paired well with my Brewer Clifton Chardonnay. Our entrees were beautifully presented and delicious. The short rib ragu papardelle was made with lamb (and we love lamb), but the flavor is probably a bit bold for those not accustomed to lamb. We also had a pork entree which was not on the regular menu, and it was delicious. Dessert wasn't in the cards given that we indulged in appetizers; however, we made it a priority to check out the cigar bar/speakeasy. The building is a maze of cool spaces, but there wasn't a soul to be found outside of the restaurant which was disappointing since we wanted to share a cigar in the dimly lit study. My wife and I live just 1-2 miles up the road from the old church that houses Mary's Vine and have wondered many times what the place is all about. It sits on a hill between two blue collar neighborhoods, overlooking the Rankin Bridge and not too far from some of the Braddock steel mills. Once you step inside though the vibe totally changes to servers opening doors for you, plush upholstered chairs, dim lighting, fancy wine lists, and pleasant background piano music floating over it all. Plus there is free, convenient, and quick valet parking (there isn't much street parking on the hillside). Mary's Vine goes for the relaxing, fancy dinner night vibe and succeeds extremely well; for many folks, this would be a great thing. We enjoyed it too, but felt a bit uncomfortable about this somewhat over-the-top fancy establishment being in the middle of very working-class neighborhoods. We both enjoyed the food very much. We got an appetizer of shitake & black garlic pate with crispy crostinis. The spread had a texture and taste we couldn't quite put out finger on (I guess that's the point) but quite enjoyed. My wife got a roasted pork shank, bone-in, with pumpkin risotto. The pork was very tender and fell off the bone (I tried some!). I got walleye (from Lake Erie I was told, so kind of local), which was pan-seared to a delicious crisp and came with a nice side of rice and asparagus. We got a flight of four wines - the Italian Expedition. We loved it; my wife said it was her favorite part of our dinner! The flight did have a ton of wine though, really it was like four full glasses of wine. We couldn't finish it all. Other thoughts: They could have been a bit quicker about getting our food out. We didn't get our main dishes until an hour after we sat down and our server seemed kind of annoyed when we asked when the food would be ready. We had a babysitter home with our daughter so we had only about 1.5 hours to spend at the restaurant (not relevant for everyone, but maybe for some folks). I also found the prices a bit eye-poppingly expensive, the kind of expensive that almost convinces you that this must be a very special meal. So if you go here, just be in the mindset of a pricey outing (as well as luxurious, tasty, etc., for sure). Bonus side note: Kudos for iPad menus! I finally came to Mary's Vine and boy, it was a treat! Every single person was so friendly and warm. Our server was Eric. He was fantastic! We ordered the seasonal vegetable board, the short rib and the scallops with risotto. Every single thing was exquisitely prepared. After dinner, we went downstairs to see the cigar room, game room and new outdoor patio. The cigar bar is super cool and a great space. The game room is fantastic. Each section of the restaurant is run independently. The outdoor patio has a different menu than the restaurant. They have live music every Thursday night. Mary's Vine is an upscale restaurant in a former church right off the Rankin Bridge. We took my parents for Mother's Day. The building is beautiful, restored to look old, but the service is new. Two added gas fireplaces have couches, and even the tables have comfy arm chairs. The tablets at the table have the menu, videos, and the ability to save your preferences or call the valet. There is a ramp up to the handicapped-accessible but gender segregated restrooms. The free wifi didn't work, but the staff were unfailingly nice. We shared the cucumber-kiwi-feta salad and a flight of white wine "hidden gems" to start. That may have been my least favorite part of the meal, as I didn't really like most of the selections (when the description says "green notes," think "chewing on a sappling"). I switched to a cocktail with dinner and enjoyed the peppery negroni. The ahi tuna is delicious, although it comes out almost unadorned and should be paired with another dish. The dan dan noodles are toothsome with a nutty umami (walnuts, if I remember, no peanuts on the menu); next time I want to try the roasted root veggies. I had the $26 ravioli but found the pasta thick and overworked. However, my husband declared every bite of his steak worth the $50 price. We were too full for dessert, alas, as their new chocolate board sounded tempting. All in all, a lovely evening. I've been eager to try Mary's Vine since it reopened post COVID and finally had my opportunity during restaurant week. I quickly found that there are many details that make it a unique experience, including the former church in which it's housed and the historic neighborhood in which it's located. Not only that, Mary's Vine features an incredibly impressive wine menu with something for everyone, including me who "...only drink(s) Pinot grigio." While visiting during restaurant week, I ordered my dining courses from the prix fixe menu. The food was interesting, not bad but kind of all over the place. There were cooked beets among raw squash and broccoli, romanesco and blue cheese hazelnut polenta that had whole roasted hazelnuts and an extremely crunchy texture, no standout taste from either of the cheeses. Highlights were the short rib, spiced Israeli couscous, chocolate peanut butter torte, and strawberry shortcake. A live guitarist played from the balcony above throughout most of the visit which created a relaxed atmosphere. If you venture downstairs, you will find a rotating door into a study that's cigar friendly and features another bar area. 10/10 would return for the wine, desserts, live music, and atmosphere. read more

The Cheek Pinchers flight was fantastic - while I hated the Chablis in it, the other three wines (Riesling, and Sauvignon Blanc) were perfect. The spring fruit board was a delicious mix of cheeses, nuts and fruits (the berry Stilton was a standout). We probably Disney need main courses after that, but my wife and I split the crab cakes, which were also very good. We were too stuffed for dessert, sadly. I have to say ... I would have never ventured to this space if a friend didn't let me know about it. We enjoyed an Italian wine dinner here. The space is fabulous and the chairs were very comfortable. The food was all presented beautifully, had good flavors, but unfortunately nothing was actually hot. I completely understand having temp issues when serving a multiple course menu to about 60 people at the same time, but use covers so it even has a chance to stay warm. The wines were fabulous, but the presenter was very difficult to understand. We recently visited Mary's Vine (12/3) as an early birthday celebration for myself. I was completely impressed by the service, wine selection, and the quality of food. Greta was our server and she did a fantastic job of giving us space to dine without vanishing when we needed something. I had the seasonal Carbonara which was outstanding. The filet was cooked perfectly. My companion had the duck and that, too, was also amazing. I wish the duck had been rendered a bit longer, but it was still fantastic. We shared the baked brie as an appetizer with the fresh baguette. Delicious! I can't remember the dessert we chose, but it was light and wonderful. The ambiance is quiet and romantic. I was concerned that the restaurant would be loud given how high the ceilings are (it's an old church), but it was perfect and we had no difficulty carrying on a long conversation during dinner. This is a pretty big price tag. The wine list is astoundingly expensive. But, ask for recommendations. During restaurant week and to celebrate my boo's bday we decided to try Mary's Vine. Literally right across the river I had heard it was amazing but had to see it for myself. It didn't disappoint. Free valet, very welcoming staff - it was lovely. We were a little early for our reservation so we went down to the cigar room. You have to go through a cool picture/door that you have to tilt the cane and it opens. Very 007! The cigar room is awesome - smells rich and looks like a study - but behind the books are bottles of some of the finest alcohol. The mixologist there (not a bartender) made some of the most interesting cocktails. A little pricey but not something you'd do everyday. Received a text saying our table was ready. The seating area is gorgeous and again the staff is fabulous. We both did the specials for restaurant week but different dishes so we could try more. Wow is the best word I can find to describe our experience at Mary's Vine! It is located in Rankin in an old church. There is free valet parking as soon as you drive up which was wonderfully convenient! As you're walking in, you notice the fine detail that was included in the decor. As you're walking up the steps, there are corkscrews encased in resin which is just adorable. When you reach the top of the steps, there is an adorable little outdoor patio. You walk into the restaurant through large wooden doors and you enter into a grand dining room. They kept the traditional church windows so there is a ton natural lighting. The decor is so classy and the chairs are plush and comfortable. We started with the Italian expedition wine flight and there was not one that we didn't like. We also ordered Pacific Northwest charcuterie board and it was divine. We really enjoyed the sampling along side the charcuterie board. It was a great first impression and we knew the food would be superb. We ordered the jerk chicken risotto and the 24 layer lasagna. When I tell you this was one of the best meals I ever had I'm not exaggerating. The jerk chicken risotto had such a unique flavor and the lasagna was delicious. It reminded me of the lasagna my Italian grandpa used to make. It also came with a chicken meatball which I loved and appreciated - usually meatballs are beef but this was a nice change of pace. We finished the meal with an old fashioned cocktail the chocolate and cherry gateau. It was delectable and on par with the rest of the meal. Once we finished dinner, the waitress let us know that there was a cigar bar called The Study downstairs where you could order cigars and cocktails. We couldn't pass the opportunity up so we decided to give it a try. It was speakeasy style - I won't say too much to preserve the secret and let you experience it for yourself! In between you are treated with top shelf service. A staff that is knowledgeable on wine pairing. A menu that is nonpareil, an d prepared when ordered. I've never met the chef but s/he has to be a genius. Downstairs, Mary's Vine has a cigar bar replete with countless varieties of stogies, and liquors to continue your pairing adventure. It would be one thing if one or even two of us were unhappy with our food but all four of us got cold, under-seasoned entrees. Ok, prepare yourself because this is going to probably be a long review. The short version is I wanted very much to rate this place 5 stars, considered 3, and split the difference at 4. There were lots of really good things to say, starting with the valet. Upon arriving we were greeted warmly, but most impressive was on the way out, it was pouring hard, and we were escorted from the door to our car with an umbrella. Nice, very thoughtful. Upon entering, we were greeted warmly by the hostess and promptly seated. You can't help but appreciate the beautiful restoration of this old church. The atmosphere and ambiance was great. The seating was plush and comfortable. Our server and all the staff (upstairs) were extremely friendly and polite. Service was spot on. My wife and I shared the wedge salad as an appetizer and ordered cocktails. A very nice wine and cocktail selection btw. At this point, a solid 5 stars. I ordered the Marsala veal chop, and my wife got the FRITTO MISTO DI MARE. She loved it. Fried calamari and seared ahi tuna was delicious. This dish would also make a great appetizer for 4 people. As for me, the veal chop was best described as scrappy. Not much meat and not a good cut. Very disappointing. Also worth mentioning was that there were no sides, not even a la carte. I would have loved a vegetable and starch. But it was not an option. Down to 4 stars for me. When we considered dessert, the selection was rather limited and they were out of what my wife wanted. Sigh. Passed on desert. But what I was looking forward to was an after dinner cigar downstairs at "the library ". A speakeasy styled atmosphere with comfortable leather sofas and chairs. A nice walk in humidor. But that's where the excitement imploded. In stark contrast to the warm and friendly staff upstairs, the server there was neither friendly or even nice. Borderline rude. Maybe she was just having a bad night, but sure didn't seem like she wanted to be there. I ordered a bourbon, and was 3/4 done with my cigar before I politely asked her if she forgot. She sniped NO, and finally bought it. My wife had to wait even longer for her cocktail. Speaking of the beverage selection, I hope you like bourbon, because that is mostly what they have. I asked for a single malt scotch, and all they had was some no name label I never heard of. You're better off getting your drink upstairs and bringing it down. The cigar selection was also pretty weak. I didn't see anything really premium, and settled on a My Father La bijou. If I was just reviewing the cigar bar, it would probably be a 2. Yes yes and yes. Was Taken here for a birthday brunch and i was skeptical the whole time. The price is about three and the service and experience match up to the menu and its price. I had the Salmon Eggs Benedict and it was three 4 out of 5 . My date had the burnt ends over grits and we also ordered the $35 breakfast flight (this venue is 21 over) two Bellinis and a manias and let me tell you the glasses were tastefully full. After brunch we had reservations for the study and there's hostess was super knowledgeable on her but one and her cigars she cut and toasted our stooges before making our drinks and even re made my dates drink (allergy reasons) without us even asking!
